Description

Make your own salt dough ornaments this Christmas.

A perfect craft project for toddlers, these decorative ornaments are made with just a few simple ingredients. They'll look fancy anywhere and make great gifts to give out during the holiday season.

What you'll need:

- You’ll need to use an oven for this project.

- Baking equipment like a mixing bowl, a spatula, a rolling pin, cookie cutters, baking paper and an oven tray.

- The ingredients for making the salt dough are 1 cup of flour, 1/4 cup of water, and 1/3 cup of salt.

- To decorate the ornaments you’ll need paintbrushes, colourful paint, some glitter paint or glue, and maybe some textas too.

I used colourful pipe cleaners and wooden beads as well, or you can just use string or ribbon if that’s all you can get your hands on.

Optional: If you want to hang them outside and you’re worried they’ll get wet in the rain you can put some sealer or varnish on them as well.

Hi, everyone welcome to my festive season, craft tutorials, my name's ida, and I'm going to show you how to make salt dough decorative ornaments you'll need an oven for this project.

Baking equipment like a mixing bowl, a spatula, a rolling pin, a cookie cutter baking paper and an oven tray.

The ingredients for making the salt dough are one cup of flour, quarter of a cup of water and one third of a cup of salt to decorate the ornaments you'll need paint, brushes, colorful paint, some glitter paint or glue, and maybe some textures too.

I used colorful pipe cleaners and wooden beads as well, but you can just use string or ribbon. If that's all, you can get your hands on.

If you want to hang them outside and you're worried, they'll get wet in the rain. You can put some sealer or varnish on them as well.

The first step is very important: have an adult help? You turn on the oven to 120 degrees celsius.

Next make the dough add the flour and the salt into the mixing bowl? Then slowly add the water mixing it as you go.

Mix it for a long time with the spatula until it feels nice and smooth with no lumpy bits.

Get your hands in there too, and squish it into a bowl over and over again for a couple of minutes, this is called kneading. The dough.

Now take the bowl of dough and roll it out till it's nice and flat with the rolling pin just like when you're making cookies.

Use the cookie cutter to cut out the shapes.

Once you're done poke a hole through the cutout shape that will be big enough to put the string or the pipe cleaner through it.

Then place some baking paper on a tray and put your dough shapes on top to put it in the oven.

Set a timer for one hour and have an adult turn. Them then set the timer for another hour.

Once they're baked, let them completely cool down before painting them set up your painting area, and then you can start painting.

It turned out really neat if you do the background in one color and then let it dry before you do the next layer, like I'm doing here.

Now that the paint is dry, you can add more paint. You can start to get creative with glitter or even use a sponge to dab on the paint.

Once they're dry, it's time to finish them decorate the beads with texture and twist two of the pipe cleaners together then thread it through the hole.

And that's it guys now you can start decorating.
