The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
3rd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
vancouver
kensington.
Thank
you
honorable
speaker
today
on
the
15th
anniversary
of
pink
shirt
day.
We
encourage
everyone
to
join
together
and
celebrate
diversity,
belonging
and
empowerment.
For
those
who
may
not
know
how
pink
shirt
day
started.
Here's
the
incredible
story
on
the
first
day
of
school
in
2007,
two
nova,
scotia
high
school
students,
david
shepard
and
travis
price,
saw
a
9th
grade,
classmate
being
bullied
for
wearing
a
pink
shirt
and
they
were
inspired
to
take
a
stand.
These
two
courageous
individuals
bought
50,
pink
shirts
for
others
to
wear.
A
Pink
shirt
day
is
about
joining
together
to
take
a
stand
against
transphobic
and
homophobic
bullying
and
showing
each
student
that
they
are
valued
in
our
schools.
We
must
continue
to
work
together
to
create
welcoming
and
inclusive
schools
for
young
british
colombians.
Our
children
and
youth
deserve
to
grow
up
in
a
world
where
they
are
valued
and
celebrated
as
their
true,
authentic
selves.
