Description
The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
3rd Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
maple
ridge
mission.
Thank
you
very
much
honorable
speaker,
I'd
like
to
acknowledge
that
the
people
of
my
constituency
live
work
and
play
on
the
traditional
territories
of
the
kc,
kwanlin
and
stolo
nations.
A
Now,
during
the
past
few
years,
this
council
has
led
many
positive
initiatives
for
the
kc
first
nations.
For
example,
earlier
this
month,
the
ktc
community
held
their
second
annual
honk
parade
in
honor
of
the
pink
pink
shirt
day.
Many
vehicles,
direct
decorated
in
pink
balloons
and
messages
of
unity,
participated
along
with
people
on
foot
all
denouncing
bullying
in
any
form.
A
Chief
grace
george
felt
it
was
important
for
the
community
to
host
the
parade
on
this
day,
not
only
for
their
children
and
youth,
but
for
the
community
members
of
all
ages.
Also,
earlier
this
year,
the
kc
announced
that
they
will
be
building
a
treatment
center
in
maple
ridge.
The
center
will
be
located
in
a
peaceful
forested
area
along
the
alouette
river.
The
center
will
provide
a
range
of
supports,
including
addiction
and
ptsd
treatment,
programs,
family
and
parenting
programs,
withdrawal
and
detox,
a
life
skills
program
and
restorative
justice.
A
They
also
plan
to
provide
continuing
after-care
support
for
participants
who
are
in
the
programs
on
site.
I
believe
this
holistic
approach
will
provide
a
real
benefit
to
the
community
and
the
participants,
and
I'm
excited
to
see
this
facility
come
to
life.
The
casey
first
nation
continues
to
just
display
their
ability
to
grow
and
sustain
innovative
developments
and
it's
a
privilege
to
work
beside
them
in
bettering
our
community.
