The Legislative Assembly of British Columbia
4th Session
42nd Parliament
A
Member
for
Courtney
Comox,
honorable
speaker,
Saturday,
was
Earth
day
and
it
was
the
perfect
day
to
end
volunteer
week.
Dozens
of
dedicated
volunteers
came
out
in
miserable
weather
to
engage
with
others
showcasing
their
work
and
inspiring
others
to
join
in
their
efforts
to
better
their
community
in
this
planet.
My
husband
and
I
joined
a
watershed,
walk
organized
by
the
volunteers
of
Millard,
Piercy,
Watershed
stewards
and,
as
is
befitting
the
heart
and
soul
of
volunteers.
A
A
day
later,
We
Came
Upon,
an
extension
of
Earth
Day
activities,
counselor
So
Courtney
counselor,
Doug
hillion
and
his
wife
Sheila
and
Gordon
Val
Sheriff
made
up
one
of
a
number
of
teams,
volunteering
their
time
in
a
shoreline
cleanup
organized
by
project
Watershed.
We
also
came
upon
the
volunteer
effort
on
display
at
the
annual
snow
to
Surf,
which
sees
over
a
thousand
athletes
and
their
cheerleaders
hosted
in
a
relay
race
from
Mount
Washington
down
to
Comox
Marina
Earl.
Earlier
this
year,
I
recounted
in
this
house.
A
The
ongoing
Monumental
volunteer
efforts
of
the
Comox
Valley
Ukrainian
Cultural
Society,
to
help
displaced
ukrainians.
In
the
long
list
of
volunteers,
I
mentioned
I'm,
afraid
I
admitted
Susan
plansky.
Who
is
a
very
hard-working
chair
for
the
society's
committee
to
fund
incoming
ukrainians
on
the
weekend
of
July
14th
to
16th
coming
up
a
core
of
hundreds
of
volunteers,
some
who've
been
busy
all
year.
Long
will
make
sure
thousands
of
people
enjoy
our
volunteer,
Vancouver
Island,
music
fest.
Whatever
your
interest,
there
is
a
place
to
volunteer
grads.
Take
note.
A
Volunteering
is
a
way
to
make
meet
new
friends
or
your
soul.
Mate,
learn
new
skills
or
be
inspired
to
a
career
and
there's
nothing
like
the
feeling
of
being
part
of
something
bigger
than
yourself.
I
know
that
was
my
path
to
this
place.
Volunteers
leave
communities
together,
our
Comox
Valley
is
a
rich
tapestry,
come
for
a
visit
and
see
we
welcome
tourists
Beyond
tourism
week.
Thank
you
honorable
speaker.
