From YouTube: Incoming 9th Grade Information Night 2021
Description
This video is a recording of the January 2021 night for incoming 9th graders and their families.
A
Good
evening
welcome
to
burlington
high
school's
8th
grade
information
night,
so
we
want
to
send
a
big
welcome
to
8th
graders
from
our
our
home
middle
schools
of
hunt
and
edmonds,
but
also
anyone
coming
from
other
districts
from
private
schools,
home
schools.
The
islands
welcome,
as
we
share
what
your
ninth
grade
year
will
look
like
at
downtown
burlington
high
school.
I'm
going
to
turn
the
floor
over
to
mr
tom
flanagan
superintendent.
B
Thank
you,
miss
hughhart,
it's
great
to
see
you
all
out
here
tonight
welcome
very
excited,
I'm
the
I'm,
the
superintendent
I've
been
here
since
july,
there's
my
lovely
picture,
and
I'm
just
loving
my
time
here
in
burlington
and
really
excited
to
talk
to
you
all
tonight
and
for
all
the
opportunities
that
are
going
to
be
available
to
you
at
the
new
home
of
bhs,
which
you
see
behind
miss
hughhart.
B
There
are
going
to
be
so
many
opportunities
for
learning
that
are
embedded
in
the
city
that
are
connected
to
the
lake
and
and
to
all
the
things
that
are
that
our
wonderful
city
offers.
I
have
a
sixth
grade
daughter
at
hunt
and
I'm
really
excited
for
her.
I
hope
I
hope
we're
still
downtown
at
that
point,
but
we'll
we'll
see
what
happens.
I
am
also
excited
for
you.
B
It's
a
warm
inviting
culture
at
the
high
school
and
there's
just
so
much
to
offer
music
art
classes,
all
different
kinds
of
classes,
languages,
teachers
who
are
really
passionate
about
what
they're
teaching
sports
and
clubs
and
activities
and
the
social
justice
union
that
I'm
excited
to
do
a
book
club
with
we're
going
to
read
dear
start
reading,
dear
martin,
and
so
you
know
I
just
I
just
can't
tell
you
how
how
great
bhs
is
and
and
how
much
of
an
opportunity
it
is
for
for
you
all
to
to
attend
bhs,
and
so
with
that
I'm
gonna,
I'm
gonna,
leave
it
off
to
the
team.
B
But
it's
great
to
see
you
all
I'll,
see
you
at
at
your
middle
schools
and
and
at
the
high
school
next
year.
Thank
you.
D
Good
evening,
our
to
our
burlington
community,
8th
graders
and
your
families,
I
know
we
have
people
on
that
are
from
representing
hunt
and
edmonds
middle
school.
We
also
have
other
community
members
from
across
burlington.
So
thank
you
for
taking
the
time
to
being
with
us
tonight.
D
We
are
incredibly
excited
to
start
to
talk
about
next
year.
This
is
an
amazing
time
for
us
here
in
at
burlington
high
school.
We
are
literally
about
weeks
away
from
entering
into
our
new
home
of
downtown
bhs.
D
This
is
definitely
going
to
be
a
location
that
provides
us
with
a
lot
of
new
and
exciting
opportunities,
ways
to
kind
of
re-envision
some
of
our
programming
access,
our
local
community,
in
a
way
that
is
that
we
weren't
able
to
do
before
and
and
really
take
advantage
of,
some
of
the
community
partnerships
and
just
community
members
that
are
downtown.
D
So
we
are
excited
to
welcome
you
and
have
this
be
your
first
welcome
to
what
will
soon
be
your
new
high
school,
and
I
definitely
am
excited
for
you
to
hear
from
our
amazing
faculty
members
that
are
here
tonight
to
talk
about
our
programming
for
different
departments
and
share
a
little
bit
of
the
exciting
work
that
is
going
on
right
now
and
just
some
things
that
you'll,
you
would
come
to
know
and
expect,
as
you
enter
into
high
school
next
year.
So
thank
you
for
being
here.
D
D
A
You
miss
mcbride
and
I
did
not
introduce
myself
at
the
beginning.
The
zoom
format
is
a
bit
overwhelming
and
confusing.
I'm
meg
coghart,
I'm
the
director
of
school
counseling
at
the
high
school.
So
I
know
the
big
question
on
everyone's
mind
is
what
is
burlington
high
school
going
to
look
like
downtown,
so
downtown
bhs
is
going
to
have
the
same
number
of
classrooms
as
our
old
high
school
we're
going
to
still
run
our
pe,
our
music
programs.
There's
a
cafeteria
there's
a
library.
A
A
We've
got
some
upcoming
town
hall
dates,
so
these
are
going
to
be
some
information
sessions
available
to
our
greater
community
and
8th
graders
and
your
families.
You
need
to
be
a
part
of
these,
where
you
can
ask
questions
you
can
see
where
we're
at
with
construction,
so
those
are
going
to
be
running
early
february
and
mid-february,
and
the
district
will
be
sending
out
more
information
and
how
to
join
those
meetings,
which
will
probably
be
on
zoom
at
that,
as
those
dates
get
closer
in
time.
A
So,
with
the
zoom
format,
we
are
going
to
keep
questions
going
in
the
chat.
What
we
will
do,
I
will
answer
as
I
am
able
in
the
chat.
However,
we
are
also
going
to
be
posting.
The
frequently
asked
questions
document
on
the
high
school
website
tomorrow,
so
we
will
take
the
questions
that
are
generated
in
the
chat
tonight
and
if
we
don't
answer
them,
don't
fear
tomorrow,
I'm
going
to
send
an
email
to
all
families
at
the
8th
grades
with
a
link
to
this
video.
A
So
you
can
view
it
if
you're,
not
here
or
if
you
want
to
review
any
particular
pieces
of
it
and
I'll
also
include
a
link
to
frequently
asked
questions
that
we
encounter
every
year
as
we
greet
our
incoming
soon
to
be
freshman
class.
So
our
graduate
expectations
at
burlington
high
school.
We
challenge
all
students
to
be
the
very
best
they
can
be
and
to
grow
within
our
framework
of
graduate
expectations.
A
These
revolve
around
five
key
areas:
effective
communication,
cross-cultural
understanding
and
civic
engagement,
critical
thinking
and
problem,
solving
curiosity
and
creativity
and
personal
development.
There's
a
lot
of
different
opportunities
to
flourish
and
to
deepen
your
own
self-awareness
through
rising
to
our
academic
challenges
and
meeting
these
graduation
expectations.
A
We're
going
to
have
a
lot
of
our
teachers.
Our
lead
teachers
speak
in
just
a
couple
minutes
about
what
their
department
what
they
offer
their
framework
for
high
school,
but
it's
important
to
keep
these
five
key
pieces
in
mind.
These
are
important
part
and
the
center
of
a
lot
of
the
academic
work
that
we
do
and
extracurricular
work.
I
would
say,
as
a
counselor,
so
that's
me
course:
requests
and
creating
student
schedules.
That's
the
first
step
to
burlington
high
school.
A
So
coming
up
in
february,
I
work
closely
with
your
middle
school
counselors.
So
that's
mrs
sturgis
and
miss
holbert.
A
We
work
on
basically
getting
you
guys
all
set
up
where
you'll
go
into
school
one
day
and
pick
all
the
classes
that
you'd
like
to
take
your
ninth
grade
year
at
the
high
school
there's,
not
a
lot
of
wiggle
room
ninth
grade
year.
I
will
be
very
serious
with
that.
We
have
english
9,
it's
grouped
with
our
freshman
civics
class.
They
have
a
combined
curriculum
that
allows
for
sort
of
deeper
academic,
comprehension
and
exploration.
I
will
let
those
lead
teachers
talk
about
that
in
just
a
couple
of
minutes.
A
You'll
have
your
math
class
there's
a
couple
different
levels
you
could
enter
in
ninth
grade.
You'll
have
earth
system
science,
which
is
your
freshman
science
class
and
then
a
pe
or
health
class.
So
you've
got
english
social
studies,
math
science.
We
also
have
our
world
languages.
We
have
our
art
classes,
our
fine
arts,
our
design
technology,
we're
introducing
computer
programming
classes.
Btc
has
their
pre-tech
program,
there's
a
lot
of
different
options
for
what
you
could
take
and
explore
and
choose
to
sink
your
teeth
into
your
ninth
grade
year.
A
First
step
is
course
recommendations.
So
your
current
math
teachers
will
be
making
recommendations
as
to
what
level
math
you
ought
to
take
during
your
ninth
grade
year.
Next
step
will
be.
You
will
receive
a
video
from
the
high
school
just
outlining
our
program
of
studies,
which
outlines
all
the
different
classes
that
we
offer
and
you'll
be
able
to
have
a
worksheet
where
you
can
think
about
it.
Talk
about
it
at
home
and
figure
out
what
classes
you
want
to
take.
You
can
talk
to
your
middle
school
counselor
or
your
teachers
about
that
and
those
options.
A
Then
you
go
in
and
you'll
actually
sit
at
your
computer
log
into
powerschool
and
request
your
classes.
I
will
say-
and
I
have
to
say
this
every
year,
the
requests
do
not
guarantee
that
you
get
the
class,
so
we
run
as
many
classes
as
we
can
and
we
r
we
build
our
schedule
based
on
classes
which
students
request,
so
we
try
to
get
as
many
students
as
possible
into
classes
that
they
want
to
be
in.
There
are
some
of
our
really
hot
topic.
A
Electives
do
fill
up
pretty
quickly,
so
you
may
need
to
wait
until
your
sophomore
year
to
take
some
of
those
classes
for
our
private
schools,
our
island
schools,
our
home
school
students.
In
march.
You
can
call
the
counseling
office
and
we
work
with
you
one-on-one
in
picking
out
classes
for
your
ninth
grade
year,
and
we
will
work
with
your
eighth
grade
school
as
well
to
make
sure
we're
placing
you
appropriately
in
classes.
A
This
is,
I
just
talked
about
this,
I'm
not
good
with
slides.
So
this
is
the
course
pick
sheet.
You
can
see
it
right
up
there
embedded
in
the
document.
That's
what
you
can
use
to
help
pick
your
classes
and
guide
what
you
want
to
take
during
your
ninth
grade
year
and
the
program
of
studies,
our
program
of
studies
for
2021
2022,
which
feels
quite
futuristic.
A
It
is
up
and
running
on
our
school
counseling
website.
So
if
you
go
to
the
burlington
high
school
website,
you
can
select
the
tab
for
school,
counseling
and
course.
Registration
program
of
studies
is
the
option
that
you
want
to
click
into.
You
can
see
you
can
see.
This
year's,
which
is
not
quite
relevant.
Next
year's
is
going
to
be
more
exciting.
We
have
a
lot
more
opportunities
next
year,
so
once
we
get
all
student
requests,
so
this
is
from
8th
graders
through
11th
graders.
A
We
build
a
master
schedule
and
that
is
every
class
taught
by
every
teacher
on
our
campus
and
then
you're
loaded
into
classes,
and
we
keep
repeating
this
process
and
keep
shuffling
things
around
until
we
get
the
most
students
matched
with
the
most
number
of
classes
that
they
requested
counselors
do
review
all
students
schedules
individually,
so
a
counselor
will
be
looking
over
your
schedule
later
this
spring
once
their
first
draft
is
built
just
to
make
sure
you
got
what
you
wanted
and
you
didn't
sign
up
for
anything
really
crazy
by
accident,
and
our
goal
is
that
you
will
receive
your
draft
schedule
at
our
june
2021
incoming
ninth
grade
event.
A
So
historically,
this
has
been
sort
of
a
two-part
affair,
there's
the
january
night,
which
is
tonight
where
we
outline
and
sort
of
showcase
the
high
school
and
then
the
june
event,
where
you
actually-
and
this
is
what
we
are
planning
in
person
for
this
june
at
our
downtown
bhs
campus-
you
will
come
on
campus
you'll-
be
able
to
walk
around
and
see
your
classrooms.
You
can
see
what
the
cafeteria
looks
like
at
our
new
building,
all
these
different
pieces,
and
you
will
receive
your
draft
schedule
at
that
event.
A
Our
schedule-
this
is
a
popular
question
that
we
get
our
goal
for
next
year.
We
are
in
a
weird
schedule
this
year,
because
of
covid
and
the
need
for
social
distancing.
Our
goal
for
this
coming
august
is
to
return
to
our
traditional
eight
block
schedule,
meaning
your
student
will
be
in
eight
classes
at
a
time.
A
So
you
can
see
this
is
us
that
this
is
actually
our
schedule
from
last
year.
Up
here,
you
might
have
a
first.
Second
freshmen
are
required
to
be
in
all
eight
classes
unless
their
parents
or
caregivers
sign
off
on
not
being
in
all
eight.
We
fill
your
schedule
with
seven
classes,
plus
a
study
hall.
Each
ninth
grader
is
required
to
take
a
study
hall
class
and
again,
if
you
decide
you
want
to
take
an
additional
academic
class
in
place
of
study
hall,
we
can.
A
We
can
talk
about
that
and
opt
out
of
study
hall.
Lunch
occurs
sometime
during
third
block.
That
is
most
often
the
most
important
question
of
the
day.
So
that's
sort
of
middle
of
the
day
we
have
a
couple
different
lunch
blocks
that
you
may
be
placed
in.
We
do
have
advisory,
which
is
during
your
ninth
grade
year.
A
You
will
be
paired
up
with
a
teacher
for
your
ninth
10th
and
11th
grade
year,
and
you
have
advisory
two
times
a
week,
we're
not
doing
it
this
year
with
our
coveted
schedule,
so
I
have
to
refresh
my
brain
a
bit.
This
is
a
time
where
we
will
do
course.
Registration,
we'll
also
get
you
ready
for
sats
acts.
A
Pre-Act
and
one
of
the
biggest
things
you're
going
to
do
in
advisory
is
work
on
your
personal
learning
plan,
personal
learning
plan.
I
know,
actually
you
guys
are
probably
quite
well-versed
in
it.
We
in
the
middle
schools
and
they
will
carry
with
you
into
the
high
school
and
we
provide
opportunities
for
you
to
to
sink
your
teeth
into
that
and
to
show
us
how
you're
meeting
our
graduation
expectations
throughout
that
process.
A
Our
schedule
consists
of
two
days
so
you're
in
four
classes,
one
day
and
four
classes
the
next
day,
so
it
it
rotates
through
and
then
every
other
friday
will
rotate.
So
the
days
are
either
blue
or
white
and
then
every
other
friday
will
be
a
blue
or
white
day.
So
one
of
your
classes,
one
week
your
blue
day,
classes
may
meet
three
times
and
the
next
week
it
may
meet
two
times.
A
We
have
a
large
number
of
supports
at
burlington
high
school.
That
range
from
academic
support
to
counseling
supports
as
well.
We
have
a
school
counseling
office
and
a
student
support
office
and
between
these
two
teams.
If
you
are
struggling
with
anxiety
with
stress,
with
just
kind
of
feeling
in
a
funk,
if
you
are
working
wanting
to
improve
study
skills,
if
you're
having
a
struggle
with
a
teacher
or
if
you're,
just
not
understanding
physics,
we
are
sort
of
a
great
first
point
of
contact.
A
Next
to
your
teacher
that
you
can
approach,
we
have
plenty
of
tutoring
and
homework
opportunities
available
in
the
community
as
well.
This
year
we
launched
a
tutoring
program
partnering
with
uvm
and
some
of
their
students,
which
has
been
really
well
utilized
by
our
students.
We
also
have
our
student
support
team.
They
meet
weekly
to
discuss
students
who
are
struggling
with
emotions
or
behaviors
just
to
make
sure
we
are
putting
all
the
supports
in
place
to
help
your
students.
A
A
The
child
study
team
meets
as
needed,
and
this
is
based
off
referrals
from
the
two
other
teams
or
based
upon
parent
request.
This
is
but
really
for
students
who
have
had
previous
interventions,
but
still
continue
to
struggle
and
are
not
not
feeling
successful
at
school.
This
team
will
determine
if
they're,
if
there
are
disabilities
present
and
will
complete
evaluations
and
screenings
for
possible
504s
and
ieps.
A
So
we
do
have
a
wide
range
of
support.
So
often
in
the
counseling
office,
I
get
questions
from
parents
or
students.
This
is
what
I'm
struggling
with.
Who
do
I
go
to
we're
a
great
place
to
start,
because
we
can
point
you
in
the
right
direction
more
often
than
not,
or
we
at
least
can
get
the
answer
for
you
all
right.
I'm
going
to
turn
the
floor
over
to
our
teachers
and
we
have
quite
a
lineup.
A
I've
asked
the
teachers
to
just
speak.
These
are
our
lead
teachers,
so
they
are
the
leader
of
their
departments
and
I'm
asking
them
to
speak
tonight
about
what
their
departments
offer,
particularly
with
the
lens
of
what
you
might
be
looking
at
taking
as
a
9th
grader
at
burlington
high
school.
We
are
going
to
start
with
our
english
department
and
I'm
going
to
turn
the
table
over
to
beth.
C
C
C
So
english
works
with
history.
Every
student
is
on
a
team
and
you
teachers
share
the
same
students
so
that
we
can
go
deeper
into
content
also,
so
we
can
mix
up
the
schedule
a
little
bit
if
a
teacher
wants
to
show
a
film
or
do
a
major
project.
Those
two
teachers
can
work
together
to
give
each
other
time
for
a
lot
of
ninth
grade
students,
humanities
english,
history
is
sort
of
their
home
room.
C
E
C
Hope
you
look
forward
to
that
next
slide.
You'll
see.
Had
we
been
at
vhs,
no
previous
one
babe.
We
had
this
remarkable
mural
for
you,
which
was
pictures
of
us
without
our
masks,
we're
a
very
joyful
department
and
we're
really
excited
that
you're
coming
to
bhs
next
year
downtown.
C
We
already
are
thinking
of
all
the
hilarious
and
absurd
ways
we
can
enjoy
being
downtown
and
how
that's
going
to
impact
our
curriculum
too.
What
we
can
offer
ninth
graders
10
11
12
that
we
haven't
before
because
of
the
place
we
will
be
so
we
see
it
as
a
real
opportunity.
C
The
themes
of
freshman
year
are,
who
am
I?
What
is
my
community
and
how
do
I
fit
into
the
world?
These
are
essential
questions
that
you'll
navigate
through
all
the
literature
you
read,
which
you
will
find
on
the
next
slide:
great
core
text
for
ninth
grade
elie
weiszel's
memoir
knight,
which
is
a
first
person
account
of
auschwitz.
C
That
is
a
book
that
is
essential
to
all
citizens
of
the
world.
To
read
in
10th
grade,
it
is
complemented
by
frederick
douglass's
narrative
of
a
slave,
and
so
oddly,
it
seems
autobiography.
Non-Fiction
is
at
the
heart
of
our
department
in
nine
and
ten.
The
other
cortex
for
nine
is
usually
romeo
and
juliet,
and
then
we
have
a
variety
of
texts
that
teachers
choose
from.
They
usually
also
read
long
way
down
by
jason
reynolds.
Many
of
you
might
have
already
read
that
so
a
good
reread
would
be
good
for
you.
C
The
house
on
mango
street
super
popular
there's,
a
poetry
unit
and
a
short
story
unit
that
focuses
on
feminism,
and
then
there
is
a
unit
called
how
to
get
along
in
a
world
that
doesn't
get
along
that
results
in
a
great
presentation
of
learning
to
your
family
in
the
community.
C
Next
slide
excellent
core
skills.
We
call
these
proficiencies
and
that
gets
people
all
up
in
arms,
but
really
these
are
the
guaranteed
skills.
So
before
you
leave
ninth
grade,
we
believe
all
of
you
will
be
able
to
read
an
annotated
text
to
make
meaning
from
that
text.
For
yourself
summarize
what
you've
read
master
the
evidence-based
paragraph
and
speak
to
each
other
with
kindness
and
compassion
and
listen
actively.
C
Carney,
it's
okay,
drum
roll,
please
for
the
dazzlingly,
clever
divinely
good,
mr
brennan
carney.
E
Good
evening
how
y'all
doing
I
am
the
lead
teacher
of
the
history
and
social
studies
department
and
I'm
really
excited
to
talk
about
the
ninth
grade
year
for
our
students,
I
taught
ninth
grade
for
the
last
10
years
and
I'm
not
doing
that
anymore.
I
teach
ap
government
personally
right
now,
but
it's
been
a
really
good.
It's
a
really
good,
interesting
way
to
start
a
student's
year,
interesting
enough,
as
we
pair
up
with
the
english
department,
which
is
kind
of
great,
creating
that
kind
of
homeroom
part
two.
E
The
other
opportunity
with
civics
is,
as
state
legislators
are
discussing
to
mandate,
civics
and
high
schools
in
vermont.
We've
been
doing
it
for
over
15
years,
which
is
kind
of
nice,
and
so,
if
you
go
to
the
next
slide
semester,
one
semester,
two
semester,
one
really
predominantly
looks
at
civics
in
the
context
of
liberty
over
security,
and
if
you
want
to
look
at
the
greatest
debate,
you
see
right
now
is
looking
at
masks
and
vaccines
and
how
people
how
the
government
interacts
with
people.
E
So
it's
a
great
opportunity
for
our
students
really
to
understand
the
role
of
government
in
their
life
and
the
opportunity
of
liberty,
also
comparing
that
on
the
scope
of
students
in
schools
and
their
limitations
and
opportunities
in
liberty
and
free
speech,
which
is
a
great
discussion
for
them
at
all
times.
For
them
just
know
their
rights
semester,
two
linking
up
with
humanities
and
english.
E
We
are
starting
looking
comparative
politics
and
also
case
studies
in
the
supreme
court.
Looking
at
everything
from
hazel
would
be
called
meyer
and
student
speech
to
brown
versus
board
of
education,
so
there's
a
lot
of
opportunities
for
our
students
to
kind
of
branch
out
and
see
how
the
government
interacts
with
them
and
their
lives
in
the
past
and
in
the
future.
Covid
is
a
great
lens
right
now,
looking
at
federalism
and
so
for
ninth
grade,
it's
really
a
nice
fun
opportunity
to
get
involved
in
the
social
studies
realm.
E
Just
so
we're
clear
of
some
basic
skills:
the
proficiencies,
as
ms
fiacco
casey
kind
of
mentioned
earlier
annotation,
has
been
a
big
we've,
been
a
big
push
on
how
to
actively
read
summary
writing
understanding
what
they
read,
interpreting
that
as
well
evidence-based
writing
and
speaking
and
listening
throughout
the
year
it
kind
of
ratchets
up.
E
But
those
are
your
basic
skills
quarter,
one
through
quarter,
four
again
with
that
lens
of
liberty
and
security
role
of
government
in
their
lives,
comparing
other
governments
of
the
year
goes
on
into
our
own,
and
so
that
is
our
civics
kind
of
our
civics
ninth
grade
paired
up
with
that
with
english
as
well,
which
is
kind
of
nice
and
kind
of
looking
at
their
reading.
I
also
would
like
to
introduce-
and
thank
you
very
much
for
being
here
tonight-
introduce
our
lead
teacher
of
the
math
department,
north
trombley.
Thank
you
very
much.
F
F
So
a
student
at
burlington
high
school
will
have
five
different
entry
points
that
are
possible
when
they
take
a
math
course.
This
all
depends
on
what
their
recommendation
is
from
their
middle
school
teacher.
What
we
try
to
do
is
meet
the
student
where
they
are
and
make
sure
that
we're
following
up
on
where
the
middle
school
teachers
felt
they
left
off
with
that
student
in
eighth
grade.
So,
as
you
can
see,
possible
entry
points
are
elements
of
math
pre-algebra
concepts
of
algebra,
one
algebra
one
and
then
freshman
geometry.
F
F
So
if
a
student
were
to
start
in
geometry,
as
a
ninth
grader,
a
likely
path
would
be
to
then
take
algebra,
two
or
honors
algebra,
two
as
a
tenth
grader,
then
pre-calculus
or
honors
pre-calculus
as
an
eleventh
grader
and
then
as
a
twelfth
grader.
They
have
many
options:
calculus
ap
calculus.
They
also
have.
We
have
statistics
courses
both
non-ap
and
ap.
So
this
is
again
a
possible
pathway.
By
no
means
do.
I
want
you
to
think
that
these
are
the
only
courses
or
this
is
the
only
pathway
if
they
start
in
freshman
geometry.
F
There
is
a
lot
of
leeway,
but
again
this
is
one
of
the
traditional
pathways
that
a
student
would
take,
keeping
in
mind
that
in
the
math
department
we
require
three
math
credits
for
graduation,
but
most
students
do
want
to
get
that
fourth,
one
in
depending
on
how
they
want
their
transcript
to
look
for
college.
So
this
was
pathway.
One
pathway
number
two.
If
they
were
to
start
in
algebra
one
or
concepts
of
algebra
one,
they
would
likely
go
to
geometry.
F
If
they
started
with
pre-algebra
would
be
then
to
go
to
concepts
of
algebra
1
as
a
10th
grader
concepts
of
geometry's
11th
grader,
then
either
math
of
money
or
concepts
of
algebra
2.,
keeping
in
mind
that
most
colleges
are
looking
for
at
least
algebra
2
on
a
transcript
for
for
that
student.
So
we
do
want
to
offer
that
in
case
the
student
wants
to
get
that
far
so
again,
there's
only
three
credits
are
necessary,
but
most
students
going
on
college
will
take
that
fourth
credit
and
want
to
have
that
on
their
transcript.
F
We
have
so
like.
I
said
we
have
a.
We
have
many
different
pathways.
I
don't
want
you
to
think
that
all
of
these
are
the
only
ways
to
go.
There's
a
lot
of
flexibility
depending
so
I
would
recommend,
while
your
students
at
burlington
high
school
stay
in
touch
with
the
teacher
stay
in
touch
with
the
guidance
counselor,
because
if
a
fit
isn't
right,
we'll
do
our
best
to
make
sure
that
the
fit
is
correct.
F
G
All
right,
thank
you
so
much
norm,
hi
everyone
thanks
for
being
here
tonight.
My
name
is
molly
heath
and
I
teach
science
at
bhs,
and
I
am
one
of
our
ninth
grade
science,
teachers
and
I'd
love
to
tell
you
a
little
bit
about
science
options
at
bhs
and
mostly
I'm
going
to
focus
on
the
ninth
grade
year
and
what's
going
on
with
that,
what
you
can
expect
in
your
ninth
grade
year
at
the
high
school.
G
So
first
of
all,
our
standard
course
for
ninth
graders,
that
all
students
take
is
earth
system
science,
which
does
have
an
embedded
earned
honors
option
and
students
can
also
choose
in
their
ninth
grade
year.
If
they
would
like
to.
We
often
call
it
double
up
so
take
two
sciences,
and
they
may
also
take
biology
that
freshman
year
if
they
would
like
that
would
be
in
addition
to
earth
science
and
if
you're
thinking
about
that
and
wondering,
would
that
be
a
good
decision
for
me
or
for
my
student?
G
My
advice
with
that
is
think
about
you
know:
what's
what
are
your
interests
if
you
have
a
strong
interest
in
science,
and
you
know
you're
really
interested
in
taking
some
of
our
upper
level
science
classes
like
ap,
biology,
ap,
chemistry,
ap,
environmental
science?
Your
ninth
grade
year
is
actually
a
great
year
to
take
two
sciences.
G
G
What
is
it
like
and
what
will
it
be
like
in
the
future,
and
we
explore
science
through
that
lens
next
slide,
as
we
do,
we
do
work
on
some
key
science
skills
or,
as
you've
heard
them
called
by
other
people
already
proficiencies
and
the
two
that
we
really
focus
on
in
earth
system.
Science
are
asking
questions
so
learning
how
to
pose
scientific
questions
that
help
us
push
our
knowledge
further
and
developing
and
using
models,
and
we
do
some
great
work
with
some
different
computer
models,
as
well
as
just
lots
of
different
types
of
scientific
modeling.
G
In
terms
of
what
kind
of
content
you
can
expect
in
earth
system
science,
we
have
sort
of
three
big
sections
that
we
do.
The
first
one
is
around
lake
champlain
water
quality,
and
here
we
do
a
lot
of
community
partnership
work.
Normally
this
year's
been
a
little
different,
but
fingers
crossed
that
next
year,
we're
back
to
our
normal
situation.
G
So
we
do
some
work
with
echo
and
the
rubenstein
lab.
We
try
to
focus
on
critical
issues
in
our
in
the
lake
champlain
basin
watershed
so
that
might
be
things
like
storm
water,
runoff,
algae
blooms.
This
year
we
switched
to
focusing
on
pcbs
and
what
effect
that
has
on
the
basin,
so
we
try
and
keep
it
really
relevant
to
what's
going
on
around
us
next
slide.
G
G
Looking
at
why
climate
is
changing,
what
kind
of
effect
that
might
have
on
our
region?
What
actions
might
we
take
to
address
climate
change?
We
again
try
to
do
some
community-based
learning
with
assessing
the
impact
of
waste
and
trash
at
our
school
and
trying
to
plan
how
we
could
make
changes
in
that.
H
Sorry
for
the
unmute
I
just
had
to
unmute
my
video.
My
name
is
carrie
beck,
love
I'll
start
again,
I'm
the
lead
teacher
of
the
special
education
department
at
bhs.
This
is
my
18th
year
here
at
burlington,
high
school
and
it's
a
community
that
I
feel
very
grateful
to
be
a
part
of
and
for
such
a
long
time
every
year,
it's
very
exciting
to
get
new
eighth
graders
and
meet
the
families
and
and
help
them
become
a
part
of
the
greater
community
of
of
burlington
high
school.
H
Occasions
a
little
different
in
terms
of
communicating
how
we
transition
students
to
the
high
school.
So
during
february
coming
weeks,
a
team
of
special
guidance
will
reach
out
and
have
meetings
with
middle
school
case
managers
as
well
as
guidance
there
to
learn
more
about
the
needs
of
students
and
case
management
assignments.
Generally,
we
have
case
management
assignments
for
highest
incoming
9th
graders
completed
by
the
end
of
the
school
year,
and
this
enables
families
to
start
connections
at
the
end
of
the
school
year.
H
We
also
are
a
conduit
of
information
with
our
general
education
teachers,
so
we
work
very
closely
with
them
as
a
team,
including
your
student
and
and
your
parents
as
well,
in
terms
of
making
sure
that
accommodations
and
modifications
are
in
place.
So
your
student
has
the
greatest
success
they
can,
while
they're
with
us
at
burlington
high
school.
H
So
those
services
can
be
delivered
within
a
learning
lab
setting
and
also
within
our
direct
instruction
intervention
courses
in
the
basic
scholar,
areas
of
math
and
literacy.
If
your
student
is
enrolled
in
one
of
those
courses,
they
typically
earn
elective
credit
for
those
courses.
So
it's
also,
although
sometimes
it
seems
like
an
additional
skill
based
course.
It
also
helps
build
their
transcripts
in
terms
of
earning
some
elective
credit
as
well.
H
You
know
we
also
have
students
who
are
incoming
into
the
high
school
on
504
plans,
and
currently
504
students
are
placed
with
in
on
caseloads
that
our
504
case
managers
have.
They
also
will
reach
out
to
families
in
the
beginning,
in
a
similar
fashion
that
case
managers
of
students
on
ieps
will.
So
that's
something
you
can
look
forward
to
as
well.
H
If
you
have
any
questions,
please
reach
out
to
your
current
case
managers
and
they
will
connect
you
or
they
will
connect
with
someone
at
the
high
school
to
make
sure
that
your
questions
are
answered.
So,
if
you
have
any
questions
regarding
this
process,
the
transition
to
the
high
school
supports
that
your
student
may
need,
or
you
feel
they
will
need.
Please
reach
out
to
your
current
case
managers
and
they
will
connect
with
someone
at
the
high
school
to
make
sure
you
have
the
information
you
need.
H
I
Good
evening
I
am,
I
am
the
lead
teacher
for
the
el
department
at
burlington
high
school.
I've
been
there
for
like
kerry.
I
have
been
there
for
about
18
years,
so
a
little
bit
about
the
english
language
program.
This
is
for
students
who
are
learning
the
english
language,
so
they
are,
they
have
a
language
other
than
english
is
their
first
language.
I
Students
are
tested
every
year
using
the
weda
and
access
tests,
and
that
is
those
scores
of
those
tests
are
what
qualifies
them
as
english
language
learners
and
we
use
those
scores.
But
mostly,
we
use
teacher
recommendations
that
determine
what
level
of
supports
english
learners
are
going
to
need
at
burlington
high
school.
I
Okay.
Next
slide,
we
have
a
number
of
classes
that
are
content,
they're,
considered
content
level
classes.
So
if
you
are
an
english
language
learner
and
you
are
coming
into
burlington
high
school,
rather
than
taking
a
9th
grade
english
class,
you
may
be
in
an
english
language,
english
class,
those
classes,
some
of
the
higher
level
classes,
do
count
towards
the
english
credits
required
for
graduation.
I
We
also
have
sheltered
content
classes,
meaning
you,
students,
have
the
opportunity
to
learn
about
science
or
health
or
math
or
social
studies,
with
some
language
support
the
higher
level
english
language
learners.
Our
main
goal
is
to
get
them
into
mainstream
classes.
So,
in
addition
to
these
sheltered
classes,
which
are
only
for
english
learners,
we
do
also
offer
them
support
in
the
mainstream
classes.
So
they
are,
they
could
get
support
in,
for
example,
in
the
humanities
or
in
earth
science,
and
also
in
civics.
I
So
we
have
those
supports
also
available
for
lower
level
english
learners.
Okay,
next
slide.
I
Okay
for
students
whose
english
is
still
hasn't
really
reached
the
place
where
they
are
able
to
access
the
content
of
english
classes.
They
may
end
up
building
their
english
class
through
other
means,
and
so
some
of
these
classes
will
will
be
focused
on
building
up
their
english
skills
so
that
they
have
more
success
in
some
of
the
other
mainstream
classes
that
we
really
hope
and
push
them
to
be
striving
towards,
so
that
we
will
also
have
more
information
about
the
english
language
program.
I
That
will
happen
in
other
meetings
that
will
be
made
available
to
families
whose
students
qualify
for
els
services,
and
we
will
also
provide
some
native
language
support
so
that
parents
have
a
and
families
and
students
can
have
a
better
understanding
of
how
the
english
language
classes
work.
So
and
with
that,
the
next
step
is
nora.
Lee
cartier
who's,
the
world
languages
lead
teacher.
J
Good
evening,
everyone
and
welcome-
I
am
nora
cartier.
I
am
the
latin
teacher
at
burlington
high
school.
This
is
my
23rd
year
there,
I'm
also
the
lead
teacher
for
the
world
language
department.
J
J
However,
a
sequence
of
four
continuous
years
is
highly
suggested,
especially
for
college,
and
we
also
have
a
lot
of
students
who
take
more
than
one
language,
so
we
might
have
someone
taking
latin
and
german
or
latin
and
spanish
our
offerings
next
slide.
Please
that
we
have
include
a
world
exploratory
language.
This
is
sort
of
the
foundational
skills
for
language
acquisitions,
language
acquisition.
J
We
have
latin
one
through
four
honors.
We
have
french
one
through
five
and
ap
spanish,
one
through
four
five
and
then
ap.
We
have
german
one
through
four
honors
and
also
chinese
one
and
two
and
a
three
four
combined
so
languages
open
the
world
for
students,
and
we
look
forward
to
the
eighth
graders
coming
to
burlington
high
school.
The
next
two
slides
are
some
field
trips
that
have
been
done
in
the
language
department,
including
latin
day
and
a
field
trip
with
by
the
french
classes
to
montreal.
J
Thank
you
very
much.
I'd
like
to
introduce
music
next
and
billy
ray
pulley.
K
Hello,
everyone,
if
you
can
tell
my
name,
is
billy
ray
polai
and
I
am
the
chorus
teacher
at
burlington
high
school.
I've
been
here
for
about
six
years
and
I
absolutely
love
it.
Something
that
you
probably
don't
know
about
is
that
burlington
high
school
offers
the
most
comprehensive
music
program
in
chittenden
county.
So
just
so
you
realize
when
you
come
here,
you
have
so
many
options
available
to
you.
Even
as
a
freshman,
we
have
choirs,
we
have
band,
we
have
orchestra,
we
have
theory,
we
have
piano
guitar,
drumming
musical
theater.
K
K
But
if
you
ask
any
of
our
students
involved
in
the
music
programs,
most
of
them
stick
with
us
for
two
three
four
years
we
usually
have
about
a
third
of
the
school,
about
300
to
400
students
involved
in
music
every
year,
whether
that
be
again
chorus,
band
orchestra,
huge
things
all
right
next
slide,
please
so
some
additional
ensembles
that
we
have
that
are
literally
available
to
you-
are
jazz
band
chamber,
orchestra,
soprano
and
alto
choir,
tenor
and
bass,
choir
and
then
there's
honors
festivals,
such
as
districts
allstate
in
new
england,
music
festivals,
which
are
so
exciting.
K
Some
of
you
might
have
done
that
in
middle
school
and
hey.
You
know
what
this
is
a
weird
time
for
music
right
now,
especially
because
it's
aerosol
right
covet
aerosol.
Oh,
this
is
the
worst,
but
we're
still
making
music
through
all
of
this
and
you're.
Looking
at
me
saying
billy
ray
I'm
in
middle
school
and
we
don't
have
you
know
real
person
choir,
but
guess
what
you
will
next
year.
You
will
next
year
and
you'll.
Have
it
with
me
and
being
downtown
is
amazing.
K
This
opens
up
us
to
so
many
opportunities
for
listen.
I'm
a
big
fan
of
flash
mobs
so
just
be
prepared
for
that.
Also,
I
heard
there's
escalators
in
macy's,
so
dance
parties-
no
that's
unsafe,
just
kidding.
I
didn't
say
that
so
there's
just
unlimited
options,
whether
you're
looking
to
come
and
be
the
next.
I
don't
know
whitney
houston,
christina
aguilera,
rihanna
or,
if
you're
looking
to
just
come
in
and
play
the
guitar
or
learn
how
to
play
violin.
K
Every
single
walk
of
life
is
welcome
in
our
department
and
it
doesn't
matter
if
you've
been
singing
or
playing
for
10
12
years
or
you
just
decided
hey.
I
met
this
crazy
choir
teacher
on
a
zoom
meeting
and
he
seems
kind
of
fun.
Okay,
you're
always
welcome,
and
so,
if
you
have
any
questions,
please
feel
free
to
contact
us.
My
colleagues
and
I
are
fabulous
human
beings
who
are
willing
and
wanting
you
to
be
in
our
classes.
So
you
can
experience
the
amazingness
music
can
have
in
your
life.
K
L
Thanks
billy
ray
that's
a
tough
act
to
follow
good
evening.
I
am
colby
skoglin
and
I
am
the
design
tech
teacher
for
burlington
high
school.
If
you
attend
edmonds,
I'm
the
mr
shems,
if
you
attend,
hunt,
I'm
the
mr
trinus
of
vhs,
but
I
also
wear
a
few
other
hats
and
teach
a
few
different
things.
So
I
am
the
visual
arts
lead
teacher,
as
some
of
my
courses
offer
science,
credit
and
some
offer
art
credit.
L
L
L
So
that
is
one
option
for
art.
As
you
progress
through
your
high
school
career,
we
have
several
other
offerings:
art,
two
visual
art
exploration,
landscapes,
collage
paper,
mache,
digital
photography
and
fundamentals
of
graphic
design.
We
are
also
looking
into
other
options
being
in
the
downtown
vicinity,
opens
up
some
different
opportunities
for
us
as
well,
so
we're
looking
to
expand
in
the
next
couple
years.
What
some
of
those
offerings
might
also
look
like,
so
my
other
hat
is
design
technology
and
an
option
for
ninth
graders
is
principles
of
engineering
one.
L
This
is
a
semester-long
class
with
the
intent
of
it
being
a
year
and
a
half
sequence,
so
you
would
do
a
semester
in
your
ninth
grade
year
and
then
in
your
10th
grade
year.
You
would
have
a
full
year
of
design
tech,
so
in
principles
of
engineering
things
might
look
more
similar
to
what
you
would
have
taken
in
design
tech
at
the
middle
school.
A
lot
of
hands-on
application,
with
a
big
focus
on
sciences
through
the
lens
most
similar,
probably
aligned
with
physics.
L
So
as
you
progress
through,
there
are
also
some
new
courses
that
are
going
to
be
coming
about,
but
design
print
focuses
on
the
laser
technology.
We
have
engineering,
2
and
advanced
principles
of
engineering.
2
are
also
offerings
through
design
tech.
L
We
also
have
a
new
sequence
of
classes
coming
next
year
to
burlington
high
school,
and
that
is
computer
science
and
in
our
computer
science
program
with
our
new
instructor,
that's
joining
us.
There
are
the
opportunities,
as
ninth
graders,
to
take
intro
to
programming
with
scratch,
programming
with
python
and
physical
computing,
which
deals
with
electronic
devices
and
micro
controllers,
and
those
are
all
options
available
to
you.
As
a
ninth
grader.
M
Good
evening,
everybody
and
thank
you
for
sitting
through
all
of
these
panelists,
thus
far,
I
get
to
wrap
it
up,
and
I
am
one
of
many
pe
and
health
teachers
at
burlington,
high
school
and
here
are
requirements
for
graduation
in
pe
students
are
required
to
take
a
year
and
a
half
of
pe
credits,
so
it's
about
three
semesters
worth
and
then
0.5
credit
and
help,
which
is
one
semester.
M
This
typically
happens
in
the
first
two
years
of
high
school,
but
really
can
happen
in
any
of
your
years,
any
of
the
four
years
that
you're
attending.
We
have
a
lot
of
flexibility
in
pe.
We
have
some
things
that
happen
after
your
ninth
grade
year,
like
bhs
interscholastic
sports
credit,
where
you
can
earn
credit
for
phys
ed
in
two
seasons.
This
option
begins
as
a
10th
grader
and
your
pe
capstone,
which
is
an
independent
study
for
11th
and
12th
graders.
M
M
Most
of
these
are
offered
within
ninth
grade
there's
a
couple
that
you
have
to
wait
until
tenth
grade
to
take,
but
most
you
have
opportunity
to
take.
We
also
offer,
in
addition
to
our
health
class.
We
offer
an
intro
to
health
class
that
is
designed
for
el
students
and
that's
a
year-long
course
compared
to
our
health
classes,
semester
course,
and
then
we
have
some
elective
offerings
within
our
department.
M
You
can
take
any
pe
class
that
you
haven't
taken
already
as
an
elective,
so
you
can
take
pe
all
four
years
of
your
high
school.
If
you
thoroughly
enjoy
it
as
all
of
us
do
in
our
department,
we
also
have
something
called
our
classes
called
regional
foods
and
international
foods
that
are
also
taught.
These
are
cooking
classes.
We
are
looking
forward
to
heading
down
to
downtown
bhs
and
if
you're
wondering
how
pe
is
going
to
happen
there,
it's
going
to
happen.
We
have
a
multi-purpose
space.
A
All
right
so
next
steps
there
will
be
another,
as
we
mentioned
before
another
evening
event
in
june,
and
that
one
is
a
lot
more
hands-on.
The
zoom
format
we
know
is
not
ideal
for
for
many
reasons
and
we're
excited
to
meet
you
all
in
person
and
welcome
you
to
the
campus
and
show
you
around
and
we'll
have
a
better
idea
of
what
it
looks
like
then
as
well.
So
the
june
event
date
is
pending,
based
on
a
lot
of
different
factors.
A
At
that
event,
you
will
receive
your
draft
schedule
and
we
will
be
giving
tours
at
that
time
as
well.
So
there
will
be
some
sort
of
you
know
general
welcome,
and
then
we
will
hopefully
have
student
guides
showing
you
your
draft
schedule
showing
you.
The
classrooms
you'll
be
able
to
see
the
library,
the
multi-purpose
space
and
all
these
different
pieces.
A
Now
I
have
not
been
able
to
look
at
the
chat
very
much
running
the
zoom,
so
that's
a
different
curveball
for
me.
I
know
there
are
many
many
many
questions.
I
just
want
to
acknowledge
that,
and
we
do
have
the
answers
and
if
we
don't
have
them
here,
we
can
certainly
find
them.
It
sounds
like
chat.
I've
been
getting
some
text
messages,
chat,
has
questions
in
there
and
then
also
any
questions
that
don't
get
answered.
A
We
have
an
amazing
resource
at
our
school
named
emily
merrill,
she's
incredible
and
she
will
be
able,
if
you
have
a
question
about
pe.
If
you
have
a
question
about
math
curriculum
she'll
be
able
to
kind
of
ping.
Your
question
to
the
right
person
so
feel
free
to
write
down
that
email
address
and
you
can
send
questions
that
way
as
well
is
tony
settle.
Are
you
able
are
there
questions
in
the
chat
right
now
that
the
greater
group
should
hear
that's
beneficial
to
attendees
right
now,.
N
A
That
sounds
great,
so
we're
going
to
wrap
up
this
presentation
and
again
we're
gonna,
we'll
email.
This
presentation
to
you
all
tomorrow
at
some
point,
in
addition
to
a
link
to
a
frequently
asked
questions
document
that
will
include
the
questions
from
the
chat
and
also
other
questions
that
have
popped
up
in
years
past
we've
kept
sort
of
a
library
of
these
questions.
A
Thank
you
for
your
patience
tonight
as
we
navigate
zoom
it's
a
new
world
for
us.
We're
really
excited
about
our
new
downtown
bhs.
There
are
a
lot
of
opportunities
there
that
we're
excited
to
share
with
you
and
most
of
all,
we're
really
happy
to
be
meeting
you
and
welcoming
you
so
reach
out.
If
you
have
questions
and
we'll
be
connecting
with
you
in
just
a
few
months,
thank.
