football

already

season
will
be
here
before
we
know
it,
and
one
of
the
you
know
for
for
folks
like
us
who,
like
football,
who
love
whether
it's
in
the
NFL
college
high
school
I,
don't
care
where
the
football
is
being
played.
I
want
to
I
want
to
watch
I
want
to
be
there.
Seven
of
Chesterfield's
10
high
school
teams
made
the
playoffs
last
season.
So
this
is
a
you
know:
a
talent,
Rich
County.
It's
certainly
a
place
where
a
lot
of
good
football
is
being
played.
A
Two
of
those
teams
reached
the
finals
of
their
region
in
Manchester
and
bird
each
fall
in
a
win
shy
of
their
trip
to
States.
Now
three
of
the
teams
in
the
county,
James
Meadowbrook,
are
all
going
to
be
playing
in
new
divisions.
This
year,
which
is
a
change
right,
James
River
is
going
to
move
from
6A
to
5c.
Matoka
is
going
to
move
up
from
4B
to
5c
in
Meadowbrook
from
5c
to
6A.

So
that's
going
to
add
some
wrinkles
and
challenges
into
things
for
teams,
as
as
everybody
gets
going
this
year
and
certainly
will
be
a
little
bit
of
a
change
at
the
end
of
the
year
when
it
comes
playoff
time.
Jim
talk
to
me
a
little
bit
about
Manchester.
You
know.
Obviously
you
know
the
end
of
the
season
for
them
last
year
sets
up
well
going
into
the
season.
What's
the
expectations
around
their
program
well,.

Well,
that's
one
of
the
things
about
success,
though
right
is
that
you
get
guys
in
a
position
they
make
plays.
You
get
some
some
traction,
and
next
thing
you
know
you
got
more
guys
who
are
kind
of
coming
along
and
following
suit,
and
that's
certainly
been
the
case
at
bird
too
right.
You
know
coach
Taylor
down
there.
You
know
they
have
had
a
lot
of
success
over
the
years
and
I.
A
Think
being
a
Skyhawk
is
a
big
deal
around
there
now
you
know
in
2019,
they're,
five
and
five
before
they
were
one
and
five
in
the
in
in
2021
they're,
five
and
four
in
the
fall
of
that
year.
It's
it's
interesting,
though,
to
think
about
sort
of
these
two
teams
having
come
as
close
as
they
came
last
year
and
kind
of
being
where
they
are
sort
of
right
now
they
were
nine
and
four
last
year,
and
that
was
their
first.

You
know
Regional
final
since
2016.,
so
it
seems
like
even
you
know,
they
got
10
starters
back.
It's
a
group
that
I
think
you
know
both
of
those
teams.
You
know
a
lot
to
look
forward
to
this
season,
but
also
again,
expectations
are
you
know
a
thing.
So
you
know
when
your
state
championship
is
a
goal,
and
you
know
these
are
teams
with
a
lot
of
leadership
back.
These
are
teams
with
a
lot
of
you
know
guys
who
have
been
there
who
have,
you
know,
sort
of
been
close.

It's
a
gauntlet
yeah
the
toughest
region
in
the
state
by
far
easily-
and
you
know,
Kevin
Tucker
he's
a
Alum
14
years.
I
said
coach
I
covered
him
so
yeah.
That
was
a
pleasant
conversation
when
I
talked
to
him.
Hey
Kevin,
remember
back
when
yeah
I
didn't
have
any
gray
and
you
had
a
lot
of
hair.
It
was
pleasant.
It's.

That's
a
you
know,
I
think
for
Midlothian
too.
You
know,
as
we
kind
of
work
through
the
county,
look
they're,
nine
and
one
during
the
regular
season,
which
I
think
was
their
first,
their
most
successful
year
since,
like
the
70s,
you
know
you're
talking
about
the
chance
to
really
have
you
know
a
great
season.
A
You
know
they
got
the
the
klesky
kid
back
is
a
three-year
starter.
Wide
receiver
they've
got
their
senior
quarterback
the
chambers
kid
coming
back,
multiple
games
last
year.
I
think
that
one
of
the
things
that
has
been
a
theme
is
we've
sort
of
broken
down.
Some
of
these
teams,
in
anticipation
of
this
podcast
has
been
that
you
know
there's
a
lot
of
there's
a
lot
of
Legacy
in
this
County,
and
certainly
that's
the
case
here
as
well.
A
Right
is
that
you've
got
teams
that
have
historically
either
been
pretty
successful
and
they
want
to
get
back
there.
They've
got
teams
that
are
growing
the
momentum,
and
so
it's
it's
Legacy,
but
recent,
and
then
you
got
teams
who
maybe
have
fallen
on
some
hard
times
who
want
to
get
back
to
that
place,
that
they've
been
or
or
that
place
they
want
to
go,
and
that
seems
to
be
a
real
through
line.
I
think
that
you
know
I.
A
If
you
look
at
a
lot
of
the
the
a
talent
you
know,
for
example,
you
know
midlothians
got
to
play,
you
know
Manchester
and
bird
right,
but
then
you
still
got
you
know
Monica
and
Powhatan
that
are
expected
to
have.
You
know
highly
competitive
Seasons,
so
it's
not
just
a
standpoint
of
like
hey.
You
got
to
go
out
there
and
be
really
solid
against
the
better
teams,
but
you've
also
got
to
handle
your
business
and
that's
something.
A
This
team
did
a
really
nice
job
of
last
year
and
I
think
you
know,
as
they
look
forward
to
coming
into
this
season,
certainly
with
the
amount
of
returning
Talent
they've
got
on
both
sides
of
the
ball.
You
know
it
even
though
they've
done
a
really
nice
job
in
recent
years
of
succession.
You
know
guys
going
and
guys
come
in
fill
in
gaps.
A
You
know,
they've
still
got
a
significant
amount
of
of
playable
depth
and
I
think
that's
the
key
for
them
now
motoka
a
team
that
obviously
it
did
not
end
the
way
they
wanted
to
last
year,
they're
going
to
deal
with
a
change.
You
know
in
terms
of
class
talk
to
me
a
little
bit
about
the
Warriors
yeah.

But
then,
when
it
matters
to
you,
you
know
what
I
mean
like
there's
a
lot
more
of
that
and
I'm
really
curious
to
see
you
know
considering
the
the
talent
that
they've
got
back.
You
know
it's
one
of
those
things
too.
For
for
you
know,
you
know
whether
you,
whether
the
thing
ended
for
you
last
year,
like
you,
wanted
or
not,
you
know,
look
look
at
Monica
right,
they're,
one
in
five
with
three
pretty
lopsided
losses.
They
come
back
one
three
in
a
row
and
nearly
upset
Manchester.
A
You
know
in
the
finale
so
for
Coach,
Henderson
I
think
you
know,
because
they've
got
some
stability
at
quarterback.
You
know,
they're
gonna
have
a
lot
of
opportunity,
though,
for
other
guys
they're
going
to
have
you
know
their
leading
receiver.
Top
running
back
are
gone,
so
the
offense
is
going
to
have
to
rely
on
the
Johnson
kid
to
really
be
a
steadying
force,
I
think
for
them
and
I
think
for
them
just
the
idea
of
getting
getting
back
to
the
playoffs.

Certainly
you
know
a
you
know.
If
you
look
at
all
the
teams
across
the
board.
Your
your
mindset
going
into
the
start
of
your
season
is
not
necessarily
like
hey.
If
we
do
X
Y
and
Z
you're
much
more
focused
on
you
know
the
team,
that's
in
front
of
you
right
and
for
those
of
you
who
have
been
watching
the
show
you've
been
seeing
the
the
schedules
for
the
various
teams,
as
we've
been
discussing
them,
but
I
just
think
it's
really
interesting.
A
As
you
look
at
these
groups
and
the
the
through
line,
you
know
the
idea
of
kind
of
getting
over
that
hump,
whether
that's
getting
back
to
a
state
championship,
whether
that's
getting
back
into
the
playoffs
like
it
is
for
mannequin
or
in
the
cases
of
some
other
teams.
You
know
maybe
starting
something
fresh,
because
some
things
sort
of
fell
apart.

And
a
win
over
Monica,
you
know
it
wasn't
that
long
ago
they
were
in
the
state
finals.
Jim
Henderson
has
really
good
teams
over
there,
so
that
kind
of
kick-started
their
season.
You
turned
it
around
finished
five
and
five
and
I
will
say:
Cosby
has
a
stud.
They
have
a
kid
who
started
at
middle
linebacker
last
season
as
a
true
as
a
freshman,
not
a
true
freshman.
There
is
only
freshmen.

On
the
varsity,
that's
one
of
those
things
too.
It's
like
you,
get
a
kid
that
young
and
as
a
coach,
you're,
probably
just
thinking
like
I,
just
got
to
make
sure
I
don't
mess
this
up
yeah,
you
know,
but
I
can.
Imagine,
though,
that
for
a
kid
of
his
age
coming
into,
you
know
physically
right.
If
he's
able
to
have
a
nose
for
the
ball
at
linebacker,
you
know
the
steps
are
very
clear
as
in
as
in
terms
of
like,
what's
in
front
of
right.

And
in
terms
of
what
they
can
do
with
that
and
I
think
that's
interesting
too,
because
you
know
Jacob
Hodges,
who
was
a
player
UVA
who
actually
covered
back
in
the
days
now
the
head
coach
at
James
River,
you
know,
that's
a
I,
think
that's
a
team
that
has
you
know
a
lot
of
these
kind
of
interesting
pieces
and
the
question
of
two.
You
know
sometimes
with
preseason
football
you're
looking
at
how
do
they
all
sort
of
fit
together
right,
so
he's
got
Nelson
Lane
coming
back.
A
Quarterback
is
a
thousand
yard
rush
or
a
thousand
yard
pastors
a
sophomore
last
season
right,
you
can
do
a
lot
with
a
kid
who
can
run
and
throw
for
a
thousand
yards
in
a
year
now.
I
know
that
the
game
has
changed
a
little
bit
right
over
the
last.
You
know,
however,
many
years
five,
maybe
even
ten
right
since
the
Michael
Vick
sort
of
era
so
to
speak,
came
where
quarterbacks
now
Mobility
is,
is
so
important,
but
I
think
for
James
River.
A
You
know
to
have
had
things
in
the
way
they
did
losing
a
Dale
but
to
to
be
able
to
build
on
sort
of
the
talent
that
they've
got.
You
know,
they've
got
a
handful
of
kids
on
the
offensive
line,
I
think
who
not
just
have
experience
but
have
had
really
high
level
experience
right.
So
they've
got
an
off
on
All
Region
kid
on
offense
and
defensive
line.

If
you
got
one
right
so
sometimes
what
you're
trying
to
do
in
Camp
a
lot
of
times
what
what
the
coaches
are
doing
kind
of,
as
we
record
this
right
now
right,
they're
short
of
trying
to
figure
it
out
in
a
lot
of
places,
they
all
I
guess
a
lot
of
cases.
The
question
marks
you
really
have
are
up
front
so
for
for
Jacob
and
his
group
to
have
you
know
to
have
that
play
up
front,
I.
Think
for
them.
It's
all.
It's
coming
down
to
finishing,
drives
right,
I
think
they're.
A
They
they
were
a
better
offense
last
year,
maybe
than
they
were
the
year
four,
but
they
did
not
score.
You
know
efficiently,
and
so
there
were
too
many
turnovers
too
many
mistakes,
and
so
they
weren't
as
good
in
the
Reds
and
so
I.
Think
in
talking
to
him
I
think
that's
a
big
Focus
for
them
is
is
going
to
be
sort
of
what's
going
on
in
the
red
zone.
Now,
as
we
get
to
this
sort
of
latter
part
of
things
here.

New
coach,
three
straight
losing
seasons,
will
do
that
yeah
and
I.
Interestingly,
they
have
a
coach
who
you
know
came
here
from
Henrico
Gerald
Glasgow
right
and
he
he's
a
he's.

winner
I
mean
he
played
high
school
ball
at
Oscar,
Smith
Powerhouse
right.
Everybody
recognizes
the
name,
even
in
Chesterfield
yep,
we
know
who
they
are.
Yeah
was
an
assistant
at
Highland
Springs,
which
is
which
is
one.

It's
interesting,
though,
in
talking
to
him
the
the
first
year
of
a
new
regime
coming
in
and
trying
to
figure
out
what
you
have
and
what
you
don't
have
and
where
that
sort
of
is
all
gonna.
You
know
by
the
time
this
podcast
airs.
You
know,
they'll
be
getting
ready
to
tee
it
up.
But
when
I
talked
to
him
he
was
like
look.
We
need
to
have
a
scrimmage
I,
don't
even
know
who's
going
to
be
playing
where
what
I
said.
What's
your
depth
chart,
look
like
he's
like.

Trying
to
teach
them
the
commitment
that
that
comes
with
conditioning
showing
up
being
on
time,
right,
simple
things
right,
like
he's
like
the
the
the
games,
will
take
care
of
themselves.
He's
like
we've
got
to
figure
out
how
to
instill
in
these
kids,
like
a
winning
culture,
get
back
to
winning
yeah.

And
that's
that's
exactly
what's
trying
to
happen
in
Meadowbrook
right
what
what
coach
Rod
is
trying
to
do
you
mentioned
you
know,
coming
in
new
regime,
I
mean
here's,
a
guy
who
played
there
he's
used
to
he
he's
used
to
a
a
a
Meadowbrook
football
program
where
you
know,
Friday
nights
were
a
big
deal
right,
where
you're
talking
people
filling
lots
and
you're
talking
about
people
feeling
the
state
it's
one
of
those
things
where
I
think
for
him.
You
know
it
kind
of
comes
down
down
to
that
Pride,
piece,
right
and
I.
A
Think
that's
probably
one
of
the
big
things
for
him.
You
know
he
talks
a
lot
when
I
caught
up
with
him
about
the
idea
of
sort
of
being
not
just
being
excited
about
the
kids
but
their
hunger
and
trying
to
get
back
to
that.
They
want
to
change
that
narrative
and
I.
Think,
regardless
of
how
many
players
you
got
coming
back
and
you
know
yards
and
whatnot
sometimes
they'll
want
to
especially
at
this
level
is
as
important
as
anything
else
right,
so
you
know
I
think
for
them.
The
goal
seems
to
be.
A
A
You
know,
there's
no,
there's
no
doubt
in
my
mind
that
if
you
look
around
Central
Virginia
the
programs
that
have
had
success,
it's
not
just
Talent
right.
No,
you
know
Highland
Springs
is
not
so
successful,
simply
because
if
and
they
have
had
a
lot
of
talent,
but
a
lot
of
that
Talent
has
been
nurtured.
Yes,
you
know,
and
so.
A
Comes
down
to
two:
is
you
know
for
Meadowbrook,
for
example,
they're
moving
up
to
division
six
this
year,
which
is
New
Territory
for
them,
but
I
think
that
that's
that's
a
challenge
they're
looking
forward
to
which
is
you
know,
considering
the
season
they
had
last
year.
You
would
not
that
doesn't
necessarily
all
seem
like
it
computes,
but
in
terms
of
their
expectations,
I
think
that
they
feel,
like
they've,
got
a
group
that
can
flourish
now,
when
the
you
know
they,
everybody
has
a
plan
until
they
get
punched
in
the
mouth.

When
you're,
just
putting
in
your
program,
yeah
you're,
it's
freeing
in
a
lot
of
ways,
it's
like
you're
measuring,
wins
and
losses
in
a
lot
more
than
just
what
happens
on
the
scoreboard
right,
you
know
they're
they're,
trying
to
build
back
to
you
know
they
have
to
learn
how
to
win
again
yeah.
You
know
when
you've
had
it
rough,
like
the
the
it's
funny
how
things
like
we
when
you
started,
you
know
the
podcast
talking
about
Ebbs
and
flows
and
teams
come
and
going.

Yeah,
right
and
I
saw
something
that
I
believe
it
was
Sean
Robertson
from
cbs6
it
put
together.

talked
to
you,
know,
kids
and
one
of
the
guys
and
I'm
forget
I'm
gonna
forget
the
school's
name,
so
I'm
not
going
to
mention
it.
We
talked
about
sort
of
like
guys
have
been
here
every
day
and
that
dedication
piece
is
is
as
important
at
this
level
as
anything
right.
You
know
you.
Can
you
can
be
fast,
you
can
you
can
have
nice
hands,
you
know
you
got
Good
Feet.
A
You
got
good
balance,
you
got
good
whatever,
but
if
you
don't
have
the
want
to,
and
you
don't
have
the
the
discipline
to
sort
of
stick
through
it
when
you
know
when
it's
hard
to
get
to
practice
or
when
it's
hard
to
to
get
to
your
lift
or
you
know
when
you
you
really
don't
want
to
do
this
last
set
right,
I
think
that's
one
of
the
pieces
that
really
clicks
for,
like
we
were
talking
about
earlier
culture
right.
You
look
around
these
teams
in
the
county.

The
ones
that
have
had
success
have
been
able
to
not
just
be
that
to
do
that,
but
to
do
it
consistently
yeah.
Maybe
you
have
an
ear
here
there,
where
things
can
go
your
way,
you
can't
you
can't
control
injuries.
You
can't
control
guys,
you
know
making
mistakes
while
they're
trying
to
make
a
play,
but
what
you
can
control
is
your
effort
and
I
think
that,
even
though
that
sounds
cliche
sometimes
cliches
are
true
right.

No
absolutely
well
