B
B
So,
mr
chairman,
members
of
the
board
of
supervisors,
dr
casey,
I'm
here
today
to
provide
a
brief
update
on
a
few
public
health
topics
of
interest.
But
before
I
do,
I
want
to
take
a
moment
to
introduce
the
newest
member
of
my
management
team,
janice
smith,
who
is
this
health
district's
population,
health
manager?
B
B
B
The
risk
of
contracting
monkey
pox
by
the
general
u.s
population
is
considered
low,
but
it
is
important
to
note
that
anyone
can
contract
it.
It
can
be
spread
through
close
personal,
often
skin-to-skin,
contact
that
includes
direct
contact
with
the
monkey
pox
rash,
scabs
or
body
fluids
from
a
person
with
monkey.
Pox
can
also
be
spread
by
respiratory
secretions
during
prolonged
face-to-face
contact
or
during
intimate
physical
contact.
It's
not
something
you
can
get
by
passing.
B
B
B
B
So
this
data
was
compiled
compiled
this
past
monday,
when
these
slides
were
developed.
At
that
time
there
were
almost
43
000
monkey
pox
cases
worldwide,
with
12
deaths
due
to
the
illness.
There
were
over
15
000
cases
in
the
u.s,
but
no
deaths
so
far
reported
in
this
country
in
virginia
we're
approaching
300
cases
and
in
the
central
healthcare
region,
which
includes
the
greater
richmond
metro
area
and
extends
south
to
the
north
carolina
border.
B
B
So
all
of
edh
health
districts
have
shifted
resources
to
prioritize
monkeypox
response.
Our
epidemiology
team
is
investigating
every
suspected
case.
We
learn
about
from
the
health
care
system.
We
are
assisting
with
testing
if
needed,
and
we
work
closely
with
medical
providers
by
offering
technical
support
to
ensure
that
they
can
identify
report
and
test
suspect
cases
appropriately.
B
B
B
All
right
so
I'll
conclude
with
a
very
brief
status,
update,
update
on
covet
19
here
in
this
county.
B
The
cdc
provides
guidance
based
on
a
measure
labeled
the
covet
19
community
level,
which
reflects
the
number
of
cases
and
hospitalizations
in
a
given
locality.
So
it's
done
so
by
county
on
the
bottom.
Half
of
the
slide
you'll
see
this
current.
This
county's
current
coven
19
community
level
we're
at
medium
after
more
than
six
weeks
of
being
at
high.
