Description
Chesterfield County Assistant Director of Citizen information and Resources Kim Conley presents a Black History Month review and USCAA National Basketball Championship update to the Board of Supervisors on March 9, 2022.
A
Next,
I'd
like
to
introduce
kimberly
connolly
assistant
director
for
citizen
information
and
resource
she's
been
quite
busy
over
the
last
month
in
our
partnership
with
virginia
state
university
in
the
various
black
history
events
for
black
history
month,
and
I
was
able
to
partake
in
two
of
them
and
again
learn
something
at
every
time
I
go
to
them,
and
she'll
also
follow
up
with
actually
something
special.
That's
going
on
at
virginia
state
university
this
week.
B
B
B
It
is
important
to
educate
our
community
on
the
rich
history
within
chesterfield
county
and
the
legacy
of
african
americans
in
our
community.
A
dynamic
team,
some
of
who
are
here
with
me
today,
began
month
meeting
monthly
last
summer,
planning
programs
contacting
speakers
and
presenters
and
creating
activities.
B
They
also
learned
about
urban
farming
and
engaged
in
an
eye-opening
discussion
on
the
opioid
crisis,
along
with
other
interesting
topics,
the
annual
scholarship
recognition
program,
our
signature
program
was
held
friday
february
18th
and
it
was
emceed
by
leland,
pender
anchor
and
reporter
with
wtvr
channel
six
six.
Twenty
five
hundred
dollar
scholarships
were
awarded
that
day
to
deserving
chesterfield
county
high
school
seniors,
who
plan
to
attend
a
virginia
college
or
university.
B
Dr
lauren
powell,
former
director
of
the
office
of
health
equity,
shared
a
moving
and
inspirational
message
with
our
students
and
community.
There
were
more
than
20
programs
and
activities
scheduled
virtually
and
in
person.
Throughout
the
county
we
had
more
than
750
participants
and
garnered
a
thousand
plus
views
on
social
media.
B
As
you
can
see
from
the
photos
being
highlighted
today,
the
programs
were
engaging
educational
and
well
attended
by
the
community.
We
secured
outstanding
presenters
with
topics
that
were
relevant
and
important
to
our
residents.
We
continue
to
hear
positive
feedback
from
the
programs
presented
in
february.
B
I
would
be
remiss
if
I
did
not
acknowledge
these
activities
would
not
have
been
possible
without
the
following
committee.
Members
co-chair
who's
not
was
unable
to
be
with
me
today:
udonis
james
from
virginia
state
university
members,
regina
barnett,
tyler
and
gwen
van
dandwich,
also
from
virginia
state
university,
jennifer,
shepley
and
jesse
kelly
with
chesterfield
county
public
library,
lauren
nguyen
donna,
charles
koski
and
aldrick
lancaster
boyce,
with
chesterfield
county
public
schools.
B
B
Thank
you.
Many
thanks
also
to
our
dedicated
corporate
and
community
sponsors
that
commit
to
providing
funding
each
year
to
host
a
county-wide
program.
I
would
like
to
thank
them
personally
and
on
behalf
of
the
county
and
virginia
state
university.
They
are
columbia,
gas,
dominion,
energy,
virginia
credit
union,
the
honorable,
christopher
winslow
and
the
honorable
james
and
judith
holland,
a
big
thank
you
for
their
commun
commitment
and
community
support.
As
always.
B
Again,
I
would
like
to
thank
each
of
you
for
your
participation.
Thank
you,
dr
casey,
for
your
leadership.
Thank
you
to
vsu's
president,
dr
michael
abdullah,
as
well
as
dr
james,
worsley
and
emily
ashley
for
your
leadership.
Your
participation
and
continued
support
of
this
program.
You
all
are
the
reason.
Chesterfield
county
is
a
strong
leader
in
this
region,
we're
looking
forward
to
next
year
and
we're
looking
forward
to
your
support.
Thank
you
again
and
dr
casey
shared
that
I
would
give
you
a
heads
up
or
a
little
spotlight
of
what's
happening
in
our
community.
B
The
I
am
so
excited
to
share
this,
because
this
is
a
delayed
year,
but
the
delay
is
not
denied.
This
is
in
the
second
year,
the
united
states
collegiate
athletic
association,
small
college,
national
basketball
championships.
It
returned
to
chesterfield
county
this
week
from
march
7th
through
the
10th.
The
tournament
features
division,
one
and
two
men's,
and
women's
games
being
held
at
virginia
state
university
in
the
multi-purpose
center,
as
well
as
richard
bland
college.
B
The
games
are
going
very
well.
The
championship
games
is
still
time
will
be
held
thursday,
which
is
tomorrow
march
10th
tip-off
times.
12
30
3,
30,
6
p.m,
and
8
45
tickets
are
18
for
the
day
and
can
be
purchased,
so
I
would
if
you're
interested
in
joining
and
being
a
part
of
the
camaraderie
at
in
the
vsu
npc.
B
I
will
tell
you:
let's
go
and
be
there.
We
are
thrilled
that
the
communications
and
media
department
has
already
highlighted
within
chesterfield
happenings
these
activities
that
are
happening
now.
So
if
you
want
to
join
them,
rah-rah
congratulations
to
vsu
for
bringing
that
championship
back
to
our
community.
Thank
you
and
this
concludes
crr's
updates.
D
Mr
chairman,
I
certainly
want
to
miss
kind
of
please
stand
there
and,
of
course,
committee
members.
Let
me
say
thank
you
all
for
an
outstanding
job.
Well
done
this
year,
the
scholarship
breakfast
again
was
excellent.
I
attended
that.
I
enjoy
the
activities
you
make
a
difference
in
the
region.
In
fact,
you
lead
the
region
and
provide
excellent
program
for
black
history
month.
D
We
thank
you
this
year,
a
great
job
that
you
continue
to
do
well
and
we're
looking
forward
to
even
greater
programming,
as
we
also
look
to
the
summer
as
we
celebrate
again
another
national
holiday
right
here
in
chesterfield
county
june
10th.
I
might
add
so
we're
looking
forward
to
that
as
well.
But
thank
you
all
for
your
outstanding
job
and
the
leadership
you
exhibit,
along
with
virginia
state
university,
makes
us
a
unique
county
throughout
the
region
and
throughout
the
nation.
Thank
you.
E
Yes,
I
had
the
the
pleasure
of
going
to
the
kickoff.
I
thought
it
was
an
absolute
great
event.
Unfortunately,
I
couldn't
make
it
for
the
scholarship,
so
I
had
to
go
out
of
town,
but
I'm
gonna
try
and
come
friday.
So
I'll
talk
with
you
tomorrow
about
that
sounds
good.
Thank
you.
C
E
F
Well,
we
will
we'll
we'll
put
that
on
the
schedule
for
next
year.
I'm
sure
others
will
want
to
see
that
as
well.
