Mayor Weinberger and regional partners provide a briefing on the City’s and Chittenden County Homeless Alliance’s Letters of Intent submitted on June 1 in response to the Vermont Department of Child and Family Services’ call for proposals to support homeless response efforts. As Vermont’s most populous city and a community with a robust concentration of resources including state agencies, community health centers, public transportation, MOUD providers, and non-governmental organizations that support basic needs, Burlington expects to shoulder the bulk of the challenge caused by the sudden sunset of the state Economic Services Division (ESD) Motel Program within Chittenden County.

Today, Mayor Weinberger recognizes the awardees of the City’s $1 million in targeted ARPA grants to Burlington non-profit organizations serving residents and industries who were hardest hit by the COVID pandemic and are sustaining the long-term repercussions. Burlington’s Office of Business & Workforce Development administered this grant program, and awardees were chosen by a review committee focused on selecting organizations strongly serving Burlington, minority community members, and whose mission and work impacts communities, households, individuals, and industries most impacted by the pandemic.

Mayor Miro Weinberger and CityPlace Partners provide an update on the start of construction at the site of the former mall. On November 2, Mayor Weinberger and CityPlace Partners signed the Second Amended and Restated Development Agreement (ARDA 2.0) as approved by the Burlington City Council, and on November 9 the Department of Public Works approved the Building Permit, allowing construction to commence.

HUD leadership joins Mayor Miro Weinberger and community partners to mark progress in rehousing homeless and creating more affordable housing for the city under HUD’s House America Initiative.
House America leverages funding from the American Rescue Plan, federal, state, and local resources to re-house at least 100,000 households experiencing homelessness nationwide and add at least 20,000 new units of affordable housing into the development pipeline by December 31, 2022. Within those national goals, the City of Burlington set and has achieved local re-housing and unit creation goals.
