trees

removed,

distressing

many
residents

non-residents,

share

distress,

with
some
indignation
towards
the
situation.
This
should
not
have
happened.

trees
cannot
be
repaired
or
replaced
as
one
would
a
motor
vehicle
or
piece
of
playground
equipment.
While
we
cannot
ensure
that
future
city
projects
can
save
every
tree,
the
review
process
for
our
projects
must
conform
to

same
process
as
a
private
developer
as
a
staff,
we
can
do
better
and
we'll
do
better.

hard

Aiken
streetscapes.

work
hard

Aiken
Land
Conservancy
for

trees

it's

a
city,
we
need
to
hold
ourselves
to
a
higher
standard
and
we
ask
our
our
residents
too,
so
we
certainly
will
be
taking
action.

restore

full-grown
tree

same
token,

some

does
that
individually,
we
ask
them

think

a

picked

water
bill
and
based
on
the
categories
that
they
have
listed,
everything
has
to
be
separate,

dollar
startup
fee

grew
up

Aiken

has
seen

change
over
the
years,
some

better

much

the
worse
Whiskey
Road,

went
from
being
a
lovely
pastoral
landscape
in
my
Wonder
Years
stands
as
the
epitome
of
the
worst
excesses
of
development.
Today.
In
this
vein,
I
would
like
to
pay
special
tribute
to
the
latest
destruction,
which
is
the
trees
and
the
historic
Farmers
Market
Williamsburg
Parkway
I've
learned
a
few
things.

Over
the
past
year,
I
wasn't
born,
knowing,
for
instance,
that
when
city
council
holds
Workshops,
the
public
is
spectator,
not
participant
to
discussions
that,
in
some
cases
by
All
rights
should
include
us.
I
wasn't
born
knowing
that
public
hearings
are
the
place
for
citizens
to
engage
in
two-way
discussion
and
dialogue
with
the
city
city
council
in
the
course
of
setting
policies
and
laws.
Why
was
this
is
a
rhetorical
question?
Why
wasn't
tonight's
earlier
meeting
earlier
Workshop,
not
a
public
hearing?

Why
was
there
no
thought
of
appointing
citizens
to
the
committee
that
is
going
to
make
recommendations
on
a
policy
that
whether
or
not
people
know
it
affects
every
single
person
in
Aitkin
County,
which
is
our
ability
for
our
voices
to
be
heard
by
government?
There
are
numerous
points
of
discussion
that
I
and
others
could
contribute
to
the
conversation
on
the
importance
of
Citizen
input
to
the
community
at
Large.

months
ago
by
Written
Letter
to
please
hold
public
hearings
on
demo

That's
the
city
program
that
Sands
avenues
for
public
input
has
been
demolishing
old
houses
in
historic,
North,
Side
neighborhoods.
When
no
response
was
for
forthcoming
to
that
letter,
the
letter
was
then
published
in
the
Aiken
Chronicles
to
date,
there's
still
been
no
public
meeting
scheduled
and
there
may
be
things
I,
don't
know
about
that.
I'm
speaking
as
a
member
of
the
Scofield
Community
Association
tonight's
work
session
seemed
more
like
an
effort
to
fix
something
that
wasn't
broke.

Citizens
are
frustrated
with
spending
months
on
end
as

doing
tonight.
Fighting
decisions
that
were
made
behind
closed
doors
were
frustrated
with
the
ongoing
destruction
and
demolition
demolition
of
historic
places,
trees

parks,
we're
frustrated
with
a
lack
of
avenues
for
Meaningful
public
input
and
frustrated
that,
rather
than
come
together
with
citizens
to
address
issues
and
include
us
in
the
decisions
that
affect
our
lives
and
our
homes.
City
council
is
looking
for
more
ways
to
silence
our
voices.

disabled

senior
citizens
