guidance

pausing
this
ordinance
without
revisions

protection
for
historic
homes
or
commercial
properties
allows
for
this
damaging
ordinance
to
be
unpaused
and
reinitiated
at
any
time.
If
my
memory
serves
me
correctly,
six
years
ago,
I
stood
in
the
city
council
chamber
Chambers
and
heard
the
exact
same
messaging
being
produced
by
city
council.
Demo.

was
paused
no
need
to
fret
mission
accomplished.
Yet
we
stand
here
again
with
homes
on
Aiken's,
historic,
north
side,
in
the
queue
ready
for
demolition.

Although
paused
I
want
to
make
it
abundantly
clear
that
pausing
or
temporary
halting
halting
of
this
ordinance
does
not
and
will
never
be
a
long-standing
solution
to
this
problem.
At
last
month's
Schofield
community
meeting
I
met
a
woman
who
owned
a
handful
of
historic
homes
in
schofield's
neighborhood.

It's
my
belief
that
this
ordinance
exploits
those
who
are
unable
to
maintain
their
legacy
properties
and
actively
discourage
investment
in
Aiken's
largest
historic
district
I
applaud
this
Council
for
taking
action
and
pausing
demo
200.
for
the
time
being,
however,
is
imperative
that
this
ordinance
remained
paused
until
historic
protections
can
be
assured,
or
this
ordinance
is
removed
from
the
books
entirely.

last
spring,
I
naively
thought
that,
unlike
National
politics,
which
can
only
be
described
as
an
irredeemably
corrupted
apparatus

power
and
money,
it
might

different

small
town
Aiken.
Given
a
handful
of
hard-working
people,
each
bringing
their
own
time,
skills
and
strengths
to
the
effort,
we
might
be
able
to
stop
the
destruction
and
for
a
while
it
seemed
we'd
succeeded.
How
could
we
not
the
city
and
its
public
private
development
Partners
had
been
publicly
outed
for
their
malfeasance
and
mendacity.

apparatus
was
being
dismantled,
or
so
we
thought
all
that
remained
was
picking
up
the
pieces
and
starting
over
only
this
time
doing

lawfully
legally
and
without
the
cronyism
and
the
secret
meetings
and
secret
deals
turns
out

already
been
working
on
Plan
B,
you
barely
even
paused
as
plan
a
fell
apart
before
you
rolled
out
plan

with
great
fanfare,
but
this
would
be
different.
We
were
told,
as
with
pascalis,
the
decisions
were
made
long
before
the
project

unrolled
to
the
public,
but
it's
not
different.

historic

only
guess
they
didn't

articles

they'd

it
was
about

the
unlawfulness

a
project
to
go
as
far
as
it
did.
When
we
hear
that
off
repeated
saying
about
how
we
must
learn
about
history,
lest
we
repeat
it,
this
is
what
is
meant
in
parting
I'd,
like
to
comment
on
the
list
of
cultural
sites.
I
read
much
of
the
I
guess
it
was
274-page
document.

Bethany
and
colored
cemeteries
and
Hitchcock
Woods
are
outside
of
the
stated
boundaries
of
that
area.

disagree
on

Second,
why
aren't
Smith
Hazel
and
the
historic
Cumberland
AME
Church
in
Giles
park
on
the
list?
I
can
guess
the
reason
for
Giles
Park,
it's
probably
because
the
city's
eyeballing
this
as
a
sore
spot
in
the
north
side,
gentrification
projects,
Giles
Park,
was
deeded
to
the
City
by
Southern
Railroad
in
1912
to
be
used
specifically
as
a
park
for
black.

working

help
at
the
station
and
everything
having
a
Workforce
there,
but

that
was
a
really
if
you
picture
what
it
must
be
like
to
be
at
a
at

park

beside
a
railroad
Depot

soot
and
the
smoke
and
the
filth
and
the
danger
of
a
railroad
track,

could
think
of
better
places
to
cite
a
park,
but
anyway,

20th

district

it
still
can
happen.

more
for
technology
transfer
among
what
happens
at
the
National
Lab
to
the
private
sector
right
now,
because
it's
behind
the
gate,
there's
not
that
opportunity.

an

request
that

failed,

was
no
discussion

anything

district

represent,
we've
had
quite
a
few
meetings
amongst
the
residents
that
we've
had
one
meeting
here
in
the
chambers
that
lasted
for
quite
some
time
with
the
owners
of
that
property
and
I'd
like
to
revisit
that.

before
we,

you
can
bring
it

There's
no
harm
in
that
in
terms
of
doing

folks

Joy
began
work

Eve,
2015
and
her
last
day
was
Friday
March,
the
10th,
and
but
she
is
spending
a
week
or
two
working
with
our
new
capital
projects,
manager,
Mary,
Catherine
Lawton,
who
is
they
are
attending
they.
They
sat
through
for
the
last
agenda
item.

years

months
devoted
service
