our
country
and
we're
honored

it

own

Of
course,
with
the
second
baptist
church-
and
we
were
coming
before
you
today,
because
last
year,
miss

and
I
were
connected
via
the
south
carolina
humanities
council.
Little
did,
we
know
we
were
both
vying
for
the
same
application
to
bring
the
smithsonian
exhibit
here
called
voices
and
votes
america,
democracy
in
america.

It
had
to
be
an
area
that
could
host
the
exhibit
host
events
with
the
community
build
partnerships-
things
like
that,
so
we
put
our
application
in
and
we
were
thankfully
chosen
by
south
carolina
humanities
as
they
manage
the
exhibit
for
the
smithsonian
institute
to
bring
it
here.
So
we
are
actually
only
one
of
six
locations
throughout
all
of
south
carolina.
We
are
the
third
spot
down
there.

We
are
working
together
in
that
aitkin
county
historical
museum
has
the
exhibition
space,
so
we
can
bring
the
exhibit.
Have
it
open
to
the
public
six
days
a
week
have
free
admission
things
like
that.
Msd's
group,
thankfully,
has
the
event
space
so
a
second
baptist
beautiful
campus
on
york
street.
They
have
the
space
and
the
connections
with
the
community
to
host
lots
of
our
events.
That
partner
with
the
exhibition.

There
we
go
so
the
exhibit
that's
coming
to
us
was
curated
by
the
national,
but
it
came
from
the
smithsonian
institute.
Of
course,
it
is
reduced
greatly
because
there's
no
way
that
we
could
fit
a
whole
smithsonian
exhibit
in
our
museum
and
probably
take
up
our
whole
museum.
It
will
feature
historical
and
contemporary
videos.

It
will
have
artifacts,
it
will
have
interactives
and
one
of
the
fun
components
of
this
is
that
they're
actually
asking
the
community
and
giving
us
a
grant
to
build
our
own
voices
and
votes
version
of
the
exhibit
for
our
local
community.
So
not
only
will
it
feature
america's
history
as
voi
voices
and
votes,
but
also
we're
going
to
feature
aitkin
county's
history
of
voices
and
votes,
including
some
famous
folks,
like
utility
sally,
martha
schofield.

it's
our
idea
just
to
get
out
there,
the
history
of
voting,
the
responsibility
you
know
being
an
american
citizen
in
our
country.
Next
up,
though,
for
our
big
events
is
coming
up
thanks
to
y'all,
so
much
on
june,
25th
we're
having
a
festival
on
newberry
street,
it's
gonna
be
lots
of
fun.
Family
friendly,
we're
gonna,
have
food
trucks,
a
historical
timeline,
yeah
children's
room,
our
children's
activity
and
we're
also
gonna
have
aitkin
county
board
of
election
is
giving
us
some
of
their
voting
machines
and
we're
gonna.

Have
people
do
a
fake
voting
and
it's
going
to
be
like
on
vote
on
your
favorite
puppy,
who
can
resist
an
adorable
puppy,
so
we're
going
to
partner
with
fodis
on
bringing
some
adoptable
dogs
downtown,
and
you
can
vote
for
dog
purple
or
dog
green.
You
know
whoever's
wearing
that
certain
color
of
leash,
and
maybe
we'll
even
have
them
campaigning
you
know,
might.

Some
puppy
kisses
that
kind
of
thing
you
know
so
it'll
be
a
fun
time.
One
thing
that
we're
also
proud
of
is
that
we're
partnering
with
the
aiken
center
for
the
arts
on
an
art
exhibition,
and
it's
called
voices
made
visual
and
that's
another
way
that
we
can
reach
beyond
just
the
historical
media
and
into
the
sculptural
and
inviting
aitkin
county
citizens
to
create
their
idea
of
voices
and
votes
in
our
community,
and
that's
why
ms
d
has
been
working
on
personally
and
putting
a
lot
of
her
energies
into
which
is
wonderful.

We've
also
got
our
biggie,
which
is
on
saturday
july
23rd,
and
that
is
something
we're
so
proud
of.
We
are
bringing
dr
walter
edgar
and
dr
bobby
donaldson
to
aiken
and
they're,
going
to
do
a
symposium
on
the
voting
rights
history
of
south
carolina,
and
that
is
absolutely
wonderful.
We're
so
excited
to
bring
these
two
gentlemen
to
our
town,
they're
so
well
respected
in
each
of
their
fields,
and
then
we've
got
some
other
events
too,
but
I
won't
take
up
too
much
else
time
so
just
check
it
out.

We've
been
partnering
with
a
great
group
of
folks
in
the
community.
We
couldn't
do
it
without
them,
we're
all
volunteers
just
working
together.
Of
course,
the
primaries
are
aiken
county
museum,
the
second
baptist,
but
we're
also
working
with
aiken
tech,
usc
aiken
league
of
women,
voters,
naacp
sce
tv,
of
course,
sc
humanities,
usc
aiken.
So
it's
been
really
wonderful
to
have
all
these
partners
come
together.

donations.

are
not
seeking
anything
corporate.
So
all

our

the

from
private

tax
rolls-
and
this

parcel
and

cash
offer
of

thousand
dollars,

to
be
refurbished,
but
they
just
don't

budget.
