One
is

presentation

regarding
events
and
plans
for
aitkin
county's,
150th
anniversary.

so,
as
you
may
or
may
not
know,
oh,
I
should
introduce
myself
hi,
I'm
lauren
virgo.
Thank
you
so
much.
I
live
in
aitkin
and
just
moved
here
about
a
year
and
a
half
ago,
but
I
was
born
and
raised
down
the
road
north
augusta,
so
aitkin
county
born
and
bred
happy
to
be
here
representing
county
history,
as
you
may
or
may
not
know,
aiken
county
turned
or
turned
on
march
10,
150
years
old
and
aitkin
county
has
an
incredible
and
diverse
past,
looking
the
wrong
one.

But
we're
also
doing
these
primary
projects,
which
is
something
that
aiken
county
council
has
been
very
supportive
of,
which
is
wonderful.
One
of
the
things
is
tourism
videos.
So,
originally
back
before
covet
through
a
wrench
into
everyone's
plans,
we
had
an
idea
to
push
out
towards
aitkin,
county
visitors
and
tourists
to
really
explore
aitkin
county's
history
and
enjoy
it
by
pushing
them
to
all
the
sites.
Well,
that
didn't
work
out.
So
instead
myself,
who
is
a
very
terrible
videographer
but
semi-decent
enough
for
youtube
at
least
went
out
to
all
these
sites.

With
my
staff
and
we
started
filming
everybody,
we
tried
to
find
fun
aspects
to
history,
things
that
just
aren't
in
1824
so
and
so
arrived.
You
know
it's.
We
wanted
to
be
fun
and
engaging
and
really
entice
people
with
the
fascinating
history.
That's
in
our
community,
so
we
started
filming
all
these
sites
and
we
started
publishing
those
videos
in
march
and
we
were
rolling
through
them
right
now
and
hopefully,
throughout
the
year
we
will
be
showcasing.

Aiken,
county's,
wonderful
history,
including
city
awakens,
so
we
filmed
at
the
train,
museum,
srs
museum,
the
center
for
african
american
history,
art
and
culture
and
the
thoroughbred
hall
of
fame
project
number
two
is
a
traveling
exhibit.
So
if
y'all
been
to
the
train
museum
lately
and
been
up
to
the
second
floor,
you
might
have
seen
it.
The
exhibit
is
going
to
rotate
throughout
aiken
county
to
different
libraries
centers.

Really
anybody
can
host
it.
That
has
a
public
audience
and
it's
free
and
you
get
to
have
it
for
two
months.
So
please
take
advantage
of
this
and
check
out
some
of
the
cool
sites
where
the
traveling
exhibit
will
be,
and
there
are
two
copies
of
the
exhibit
so
they're
rotating
simultaneously
throughout
the
county,
to
hit
as
many
people
as
we
can.

A
big
thing
is
updating
the
marker.
I
don't
know
if
you've
seen
the
marker,
but
it
says
industries,
including
mining
and
the
savannah
river
plant,
beginning
began
operations,
so
it's
a
little
outdated
just
a
tad
and
we
have
a
much
more
fascinating
history
to
explore.
So
the
idea
is
to
upgrade
this
marker
update,
updated
to
recognize
the
founders
of
aitkin
county
and
the
history
of
the
county
itself.

Project
four
is
an
oral
history
program.
We're
calling
recollections-
and
I
know
different
groups-
have
done
oral
histories
throughout
when
I
was
at
the
arts
and
heritage
center.
We
also
did
an
oral
history
project
there,
but
this
idea
is
to
create
oral
histories
as
well
as
coalescing
videos
that
have
been
collected
in
other
areas.
So
the
savannah
river
site
has
had
a
very
vigorous
oral
history
program.

pop.
So
thank
you
all
very
much
for
this,
because
this
is
actually
from
the
city
of
aitkin.
Y'all
are
letting
us
borrow
two
trolleys
in
october
and
the
trolleys
are
gonna
run
between
the
history,
museums
and
dropping
people
off
and
on
so
they
can
explore
the
city
of
aiken's
history
and
it's
going
to
be
free
and
we're
going
to
put
docents
on
the
trolleys
and
then
we're
going
to
do
the
same
thing
in
north
augusta
a
little
bit
early
in
october.

Now
north
augusta
doesn't
have
as
many
public
history
sites,
but
we're
going
to
still
do
a
history
tour
of
downtown
north
augusta
and
again,
the
idea
is
to
provide
as
many
opportunities
as
possible
for
people
to
really
see
our
cool
history
the
passport
program.
This
is
something
we
are
seeking
funding
through
the
aitkin
county,
accommodations
tax,
and
it
will
be
hopefully
ten
thousand
booklets
we'll
put
them
out
at
welcome.

Centers
tourism,
centers
hotels
wherever
we'll
take
them
and
then,
as
a
visitor
to
our
area,
you
grab
a
passport,
you
go
to
each
site
and
get
your
stamp
and
at
the
end
you
become
a
certified
aiken
county
historian
and
you
get
a
little
gift
at
our
museum.
So
the
idea
is
again:
tourism
go
visit,
our
sites
go,
learn
our
history
and
hopefully
unique
and
fun
ways
a
virtual
field
trip.
I
know
with
school
this
year
being
what
it
has
been
for.

A
lot
of
our
students
is
really
hard
to
engage
students
and
do
a
virtual
founders
day,
but
we
hope
that
we
found
a
solution
by
creating
a
virtual
museum
for
the
students
and
we're
working
with
aitkin
county
k-5.
Right
now
to
create
a
virtual
museum
that
explores
aiken
county's
history
with
our
local
students.

Something
we've
also
done
is
major
general
irene.
Travel
harris
who
is
a
native
to
our
area,
gave
us
funding
for
creating
history
kits,
and
it
is
a
take
home
historian
for
a
day
kit
and
we
give
them
out
every
month
and
for
march
we
themed
it
to
the
founders
of
aitkin
county,
and
that
was
a
big
success.
We
gave
out
48
kits
at
the
museum.

celebration
and
help
us
promote
it?

two
people

intensely
interested
in
this
venture.

housing
month.

think
it's
important
enough

celebrate.

proclamation

whereas
april
2021
marks
the
53rd
anniversary
of
the
passage
of
the
u.s,
fair
housing
law.

civil
rights
act
of
1968
by
continuing
to
address
discrimination
in
our
community
to
support
programs
that
will
educate
the
public
about
the
right
to
equal
housing
opportunities
and
to
plan
partnership
efforts
with
the
organizations

american

their
right
of
fair
housing.
So
now,
therefore,
I'm
mayor,

council
of
the
city
of
aiken,

designate
april,

fair

month

we

march

state
house
for
something
very
important

we're
going

be
addressing

that

lot
of
people,
because
we
heard

lot

buzz
in
a
lot
of
conversation
and
let
you
know
that
your
efforts
were
were
certainly
meaningful

work

out

country

back,

a

of
this

trying

get
back

front
of

guys

actually
present
their
certificate.

what
I
have

front

me

a
certificate
for
you,
mr
beatenbeau,
and
it
simply
reads
for
your
services:
support

hometown
heroes
banner
program,
your
actions
bring
great

credit
upon
yourself
and
the
citizens
of
aitkin
and
showing
honor
and
respect

our
veterans.

being

more
for

this
community

vacancy

because
of

reappointed

lindsey

spoke
to
mr
lindsey.

has
agreed
to
stay
on

election
commission
through
the
november
municipal
election,

need

replace

working
through,

he

will

the
building
would

avenue
and
whereas

council

the
sea
of
aitkin
has
expressed
support
to
reclo,
relocate
the
vietnam
war
memorial
to
the
aitkin
county
veterans
memorial
park
located
at
1435
richland
avenue
west
in
order
to
facilitate
the
viewing
of
this
memorial
by
the
citizens
of
the
city
of
aitkin.

10-1-165
of
the
code
of
law
of
south
carolina
prohibits
the
relocation
of
a
vietnam
war
memorial
without
the
approval
of
the
south
carolina
general
assembly,
and
whereas
the
council
of
the
city

aiken

from
the
south
carolina
general
assembly
to
relocate
the
vietnam
war.
Memorial
is
essential
to
the
general
health
safety,
welfare
and
economic
stability
of
the
city
and
is
in
the
best
interest
of
our
citizens.

resolved
by
the
city
by
the
council
of
the
city
of
aitkin

I'm
reside
at

magnolia
lake
court
aiken
south
carolina.
I
am
a
member
of
the
henry
middleton
chapter,
daughters
of
the
american
revolution.
I
wanted
to
speak
to
this
resolution
before
you
pass
it
because
I'm
afraid
that
it
doesn't
go
far
enough.
I
worked
on
this
issue.
Two
years
ago
I
spoke
with
senator
young.
I
tried
to
get
this
monument
moved
at
my
own
expense.
I

So
in
saying
this,
I
appreciate
everything
that
these
gentlemen
have
done
to
get
this
moved.
Two
years
ago
we
worked
on
the
memorial
area.
We
installed
some
benches.
The
henry
middleton
chapter
did:
all
of
that
we
planted
rose
bushes,
it's
gorgeous
now.
This
monument
needs
to
be
relocated.
There
I'd
be
glad
to
pay
to
have
it
done
if
I
were
allowed
to
do
so.

putting
it
in
the
parkway
across
from
the
old
post
office,
but
decided
at
that
time
to
put
it
at

current
location
of
lawrence
and
edgefield,
and
it
was
passed
unanimously
by
a
vote
of
city
council
to
install
it
at
that
time
in
october
of

we've
spoken
to
the
delegation
and
what
we're
told
is
that,
just
due
to
the
as
as
I
think,
was
alluded
to
by
ms
ms
justice
earlier
that
some
of
the
issues-
I
guess
in
the
general
assembly,
with
just
memorials
and
monuments
in
general
they're,
waiting
on
a
court
case
regarding
the
constitutionality
of
portions
of
the
heritage
act
to
be
resolved
before
the
general
assembly
would
contemplate
moving
any
markers
or
memorials
in
the
state
of
south
carolina.
It's
not
just
this
one.
It's!

This
is
not
any
trepidation
about
moving
this,
for
example,
in
north
augusta
we
were
told
several
years
ago
they
had
to
get
because
of
the
heritage
act
had
to
move
a
marker,
similar
situation-
I
don't
remember
which
war
it
commemorated,
but
they
relocated
it
from
a
city-owned
park
to
their
veterans
park
on
georgia
avenue
down
near
near
near
buena
vista.
So
I
mean
there
is
kind
of
the
precedence
for
this.

think
the
the
city
attorney
spoke
with
their
city
attorney
and
got
some
of
that
information,
but
it's
that
is
somewhat
the
the
the
limbo
that
we're
in
right
now,
based
on
the
information
we
had
received-
and
I
know
ms
justice
was
nice
enough
to
share
with
me
before
the
meeting
kind
of
her
her
background
thoughts
and
research.
But
but
this
is,
I
guess,
done
at
the
recommendation
of
the
senator
and
you
know
we'll
continue
to
see
what
we
can
do
to
get
this
move.

call

miles
into

served
together
in
a
different

endorsed

to

and
start.

could

about

all

She

so
deserving
and
I'm
glad
we're
doing
