A
Hello
and
thank
you
for
tuning
in
to
this
episode
of
animals
and
ames.
My
name
is
ron
edwards,
I'm
the
animal
control
supervisor
here
for
the
ames
animal
shelter
and
animal
control
program.
Our
guest
host
today
is
going
to
be
kathy
pike.
Kathy
is
our
full-time
animal
control
officer
and
just
an
awesome
person
here
to
be
on
my
team.
She's
compassionate
cares
for
people
cares
for
the
animals
that
she
comes
in
contact
with,
and
just
does
a
great
job
here
for
us.
B
Hi,
I'm
kathy
pike,
I'm
a
full-time
animal
control
officer
here
for
the
city
of
ames,
animal
shelter
and
animal
control.
This
here
is
morty
as
we
like
to
refer
to
him
as
shorty
morty,
because
he's
got
some
short
legs
here
now.
He
may
not
be
fully
dark,
but
he
is
handsome
and
he
loves
long
walks
on
the
beach
he's,
a
pretty
sweet
guy
he's
about
two
and
a
half
years
old.
We
think
he's
a
pit.
B
Bull
mix,
not
sure
what
he
may
be
mixed
with,
but
definitely
cute,
and
he
just
got
neutered
yesterday,
so
he's
ready
to
go
to
his
firmware
home
he's
been
with
us
for
12
days
here
at
the
shelter
and
unfortunately,
no
owners
came
to
claim
him.
But
that's
okay,
because
we're
gonna
find
him
his
forever
home.
He
loves
his
kong
and
he
loves
treats
inside
of
it
like
peanut
butter.
We
do
say
he
does
need
to
be
at
a
home
that
has
no
other
pets.
B
He
has
been
selective
with
some
of
the
dogs
here
at
the
kennel
in
the
kennels
and
then
also
he
has
shown
some
intense
interest
in
cats
and
so
for
a
cat's
sake.
We
would
say
no
cats
in
the
home
just
for
for
them
to
be
safe
and
to
keep
morty
from
doing
anything
naughty,
as
well
as
with
some
other
dogs,
too,
he's
really
good
on
leash
and
his
he
can
pull
sometimes,
but
he's
good
with
correction.
B
B
Okay,
we
hold
dogs
and
cats
here
for
seven
days
for
owner
reclaim,
so
he
actually
will
be
available
for
adoption
on
saturday
january
30th.
If
no
owners
come
forward,
it
doesn't
seem
like
we're,
probably
going
to
have
an
owner
come
forth
as
he
appears
to
have
been
abandoned
here
in
ames.
B
B
This
here
is
smokey
joe
we've
estimated
about
a
little
over
two
years
old
he's,
actually
a
transfer
from
the
story
county,
animal
shelter.
He
came
into
them
on
october
30th
and
then
he
was
transferred
to
us
just
before
the
new
year.
This
boy
came
in
to
them
from
a
previous
home
that
had
several
other
dogs
and
kind
of
substandard
conditions.
B
He
had
some
negative
male
interaction
doesn't
appear
as
if
he's
had
a
lot
of
socializing
with
certain
things
he's
good
in
some
areas
where
other
areas
he
does
need,
probably
a
reintroduction,
some
that
being
kind
of
on
leash,
he
can
do
well.
He
does
respond
well
to
some
corrections.
Some,
depending
on
certain
corrections,
can
make
him
nervous
or
timid
or
being
around
things
that
he
hasn't
experienced.
B
Even
though
he's
two
years
old,
so
just
simple
things
around
the
home
may
just
kind
of
make
him
timid,
young
children,
especially
with
their
fast
movements-
and
you
know,
just
kind
of
being
loud
at
times,
not
their
fault,
but
just
something
that
does
make
him
a
bit
nervous
to
be
around
and
he
is
a
little
timid
towards
men
when
he
first
meets
them.
As
well,
but
he's
a
great
dog,
he
does
know
sit,
he
responds
well
to
treats
so
training
shouldn't,
be
a
huge
problem.
B
We've
been
working
on
lay
down
he's
not
done
the
greatest
quite
yet
like
as
responsive
as
we'd
like,
but
he's
getting
there.
It's
all
progress,
kind
of
sometimes
with
the
potty
training
too
consistent
breaks
outside
he
does
great
with.
Sometimes
he
does
have
some
accidents
when
he
has
to
go
a
little
bit
longer
than
normal,
but
from
where
he
came
from
he's
doing
great.
B
He
gets
very
attached
to
his
person
and
can
show
some
separation
anxiety
so
for
a
home
that
we're
looking
for
with
smokey,
he
would
have
to
be
in
a
home
where
children
are
13
years
or
older,
no
town,
homes
or
apartments.
Due
to
that
separation,
anxiety,
barking,
also
a
home.
That
knows
how
to
kind
of
work
with
a
dog
like
him.
That
may
be
scared
of
things.
He
doesn't
really
know
about
toys
and
what
to
do
with
them.
Hi
buddy.
B
But
you
know
that's
okay,
too,
because
he
really
does
like
the
affection,
but
he
is
a
real
sweetheart.
He
loves,
it
loves
hugs,
loves!
Being
petted
loves
being
as
close
to
you
as
possible,
so
if
you're
interested
in
smokey
joe
and
can
meet
those
requirements
for
him,
he'd
love
to
meet
you.
A
A
Well,
that's
our
show,
so
you
got
to
meet
kathy
and
three
dogs
that
we
have
here
at
the
ames
animal
shelter.
Some
great
dogs
that
we
have
available
for
adoption
keep
an
eye
on
our
website
at
amesaanimalshelter.org
for
animals
that
are
available
for
adoption
and
lost
pets,
as
well
as
our
facebook
page
for
news
and
updates,
and
information
about
lost
pets
that
we've
just
found
in
our
community
that
we're
looking
for
the
owners
and
you
can
share
those
those
posts
with
others
to
help
us
reunite
pets
with
their
people.
Thanks
for.
