A
B
Well,
at
ames
public
library,
we
are
so
fortunate
that
we
have
a
support
organization
that
is
committed
and
passionate
about
their
library.
In
many
communities
there
are
friends
of
the
library
groups
and
there
are
library
foundations.
Here
in
ames
we
were
able
to
combine
our
two
organizations
into
one
incredibly
vibrant
organization
that
works
to
enhance
services
at
the
library.
So,
a
few
years
ago
we
actually
combined
two
different
organizations
into
one
and
resulted
with
the
Ames
Public
Library
friends
foundation.
B
C
I'm
thrilled
to
be
here,
this
just
seems
like
a
nice
fit
for
me,
I've
been
in
ames
since
1972
and
the
library
for
my
sons
and
me
was
always
an
important
place
to
go
when
I
was
here.
I
noticed
that,
even
when
my
children
were
little
and
as
they
were
going
into
the
teen
areas
that
there
was
this
was
a
community
center.
There
were
a
whole
range
and
diversity
of
people
coming
here
that
really
impressed
me.
C
So
in
the
intervening
years,
I've
done
some
work
at
the
University
and
I've
been
engaged
for
the
last
10
to
12
years
in
nonprofit,
work
and
moving
in
that
nonprofit
area
has
always
been
part
of
that.
Its
fundraising
and
development.
That's
kind
of
the
nature,
so
I
finished
my
work
at
hartman
senior
services
and
this
job
was
available
and
open
and
I
thought.
This
would
be
a
perfect
way
to
engage
my
new
skill
set
of
being
in
development.
C
So
while
I
knew
what
the
library
did,
because
I'm
the
user
I'm
learning
much
more
by
having
walked
through
these
doors
and
seeing
both
what
happens
at
the
back
of
the
house
and
at
the
front
of
the
house,
I
can
tell
you
that
every
time,
I,
walk
into
literary
grounds
downstairs
I,
paying
the
library
for
more
books
in
my
house,
even
though
I
bring
books
here
for
the
book
sale
because
I
have
too
many
books
on
my
own
and
yesterday,
I
just
took
home
two
more
books.
It's.
C
A
Library,
well
I'm,
just
so
delighted
that
you're
here,
working
with
us
at
the
library
and
I'm,
excited
to
give
the
audience
and
opportunity
to
hear
about
two
upcoming
events
that
will
give
people
a
chance
to
support
the
friends
foundation
and
to
continue
which
will
benefit
the
library
as
a
whole.
When
do
you
want
to
share
a
little
bit
about
our
absolute.
B
Over
happenings
yes,
so
the
friends
foundation
does
fundraising
in
a
multitude
of
ways.
One
of
those
is
through
fun
events,
and
they
typically
will
try
to
tie
their
events
into
library
services
in
some
fashion,
so
we're
absolutely
thrilled
that
they've
hit
on
a
winner
here
with
the
author
cafe
they
did
the
first
one
in
June
and
it
was
quite
a
success.
So
this
one
is
the
second
one.
B
It's
on
Saturday
October,
eighth
from
two
to
four
in
the
afternoon
and
like
the
first
one,
it
features
two
authors
this
time
we
are
so
fortunate
to
have
very
talented
people
from
just
west
of
here
at
Iowa,
State
University
from
the
English
faculty,
Deb
Marquart
will
be
one
of
the
presenters
and
Neil
naka.
Dottie
is
the
other.
Both
Neil
and
Deb
have
been
great
library
supporters
through
the
years,
their
library
users.
They
also
have
done
programs
here
in
the
past
and
delighted
audiences.
B
So
we
know
for
sure
that
this
is
going
to
be
an
absolutely
great
program.
The
other
draw
for
that
event
is
that
it
is
a
tea,
and
so
we
have
fancy
tea
decorations
and
we
have
absolutely
wonderful
tea
goodies.
Little
fancy
finger
foods
and
a
variety
of
different
kinds
of
hot
tea,
so
it
will
be
a
very
genteel
afternoon
and
tickets
are
twenty
dollars.
All
proceeds
go
directly
to
supporting
library,
programs
and
services,
and
they
are.
The
tickets
are
available
at
the
welcome
desk
in
the
library,
wonderful.
A
B
B
People
have
noticed
that,
as
we
moved
into
the
new
library
and
got
settled
that
one
thing
that
was
yet
to
come
was
the
installation
of
artwork.
Yes,
some
of
the
artwork
that
has
been
installed
recently
and
will
be
in
the
next
few
weeks
is
artwork
that
we
already
had
from
the
previous
buildings.
Some
of
it
had
been
in
storage.
A
B
Of
a
dessert
beer,
you
should
be
an
interesting
thing:
we'll
also
have
non-alcoholic
beverages,
of
course,
and
admission
for
that
is
thirty
dollars.
We
do
need
to
have
pre
ticket
sales
on
that
one
so
that
we
get
an
accurate
count,
and
that
includes
two
free
beverages.
Those
tickets
are
also
available
at
the
Welcome
Desk.
Okay,.
A
A
C
A
C
Think
that
will
come
before
my
set
schedule,
but
you
can
reach
me
and
I
have
tickets
for
both
beyond
words
and
the
author
cafe.
So
I
will
bring
tickets
okay
to
anybody,
but
they
can
reach
me
through
email
on
a
development
at
a
PL,
F,
F,
dot,
org
great
and
my
phone
number,
which
is
with
me
all
the
time
is
5
15,
two,
three
one,
two,
three,
nine
three.
So
I
can
bring
tickets
to
people.
I
can
you
think
they
tell
me
how
many
they
need
we'll
have
them
at
their
door
at
any
time.
That's.
A
A
A
B
Well,
and
that's
not
a
given
sure
and
Cheryl
Strayed
was
a
tremendous
speaker
more
than
that
she
was
incredibly
generous
about
sharing
her
own
Frances.
She
did
a
wonderful
job
of
interacting
with
the
audience
in
the
question
answer
period
and
in
fact,
her
last
answer
to
the
last
question
was
sort
of
life-changing
for
people.
It
was
very
profound,
very
meaningful
and
very
generous
of
spirit
if,
if
she's
indicative
of
what's
to
come,
then
what
a
fall
we
are
having
with
authors
at
the
iowa
state
university
lectures
committee
offerings
well.
A
We're
really
thrilled
because
the
friends
foundation
had
supported
the
series
by
contributing
to
the
cost
of
having
Cheryl,
Strayed,
Gloria,
Steinem
and
Margaret
Atwood
here
in
Ames.
So
just
that
statement
alone
is
just
terrific
to
be
able
to
say
all
of
the
lectures
are
free
and
open
to
the
public.
We
have
got
information
on
our
website
on
our
calendar
of
events
here
in
the
building
about
the
lectures
so
that
you
know
where
they're
happening
and
at
what
time
etc.
A
We
were
really
fortunate
to
be
able
to
purchase
over
a
hundred
new
copies
of
the
books
written
by
these
three
authors
to
feature
here
in
the
library
and
I'm
because
of
the
support
from
the
Friends
Foundation
and
I've
just
been
delighted
to
see
their
books
going
off
the
shelves
in
rapid
fashion
there.
The
display
is
almost
always
empty
because
the
books
are
checking
out
so
so
rapidly.
So
it's
wonderful,
that's
the
kind
of
enhanced
support.
We
typically
would
not
have
been
able
to
devote
our
collections
budget
to
the
purchase
of
multiple
copies
of
these.
A
For
these
three
authors.
But
in
this
case,
because
of
the
friends
foundation,
we
did
do
that
and
I
know
that
their
books
are
in
the
hands
of
many
Ames
residents
and
then,
of
course,
that
will
spark
interest
in
going
to
the
lectures
and
engaging
with
the
authors
participating
in
Q&A
following
it's
just
a
terrific
rich
opportunity
for
us
and
it's
made
possible
because
of
the
friends
foundation.
Support.
Yes,.
C
A
I
would
love
two
so
in
October
on
october.
Fifth,
we
are
going
to
have
a
presentation
here.
Women
in
campaigns
and
the
lecturer
is
from
iowa
state
university,
kelly
winfrey
from
the
journalism
Department
and
she
is
going.
She
is
actually
the
associate
assistant,
professor
Greenlee
school
of
journalism
and
communication
and
she's
a
coordinator
of
the
Carrie
Chapman
Catt
Center
for
Women
and
Politics
research
and
outreach.
I
hope
I
got
all
of
that
correct,
but
Kelly
Winfrey
is
going
to
be
here
before
Gloria
Steinem
is
here
and
Kelly.
A
Atwoods
presentation
will
be
at
the
great
hall
Memorial
Union
at
8pm
on
November
first.
So
it's
a
lot
of
information.
Please
come
to
the
library.
Read
the
books
chat
with
your
neighbors
start
to
think
about
what
you'd
like
to
ask
the
author's.
What
you
hope
to
hear
from
the
authors.
It's
just
another
way
for
us
to
support
the
lecture
series
and.
B
B
To
look
at
page
one,
which
is
our
program
guys,
and
that
is
also
sponsored
by
the
Ames
Public
Library
friends
foundation.
They
make
the
publication
of
this
possible
every
month.
We
have
paper
copies,
of
course,
available
at
all
public
service
desks
and
on
the
bookmobile,
and
you
can
also
subscribe
to
it
online
and
have
it
emailed
directly
to
you.
So
this
is
chock
full
of
information.
It
has
all
of
all
of
the
dates
that
you
just
mentioned.
So,
yes,
you're.
B
B
Program
we
are
so
fortunate
that
the
French
foundation
are
is
also
helping.
Prepare
us
to
have
an
enjoyable
experience
at
another
program
at
the
library,
and
that
is
called
the
art
and
artifice
of
audiobook.
Narration
and
I
had
to
be
very
careful
to
speak
that
clearly
and
enunciate,
because
the
the
program
features
my
very
very
favorite
audiobook
narrator
George
Liddell.
It's
quite
a
coup
to
get
somebody
of
this
stature
here
in
Ames
Iowa.
B
In
fact,
when
we
first
talked
to
him
about
this
program,
he
had
never
been
to
Iowa
before
so
this
will
be
his
first
first
time
here
and
we're
so
pleased
to
have
him.
It's
a
whole
different
kind
of
approach
to
looking
at
an
author
series
or
a
book
related
program
to
to
not
be
looking
at,
who
wrote
the
book,
but
I
read
it
and
we
really
brought
it
alive
for
us,
I,
listen
to
audiobooks
and
the
narrator's
makes
such
a
huge
difference
in
your
experience
of
the
book.
B
A
A
Trained
actor,
and
so
he
really
loves
to
tell
stories,
though,
about
the
way
he's
connected
with
readers
over
the
years,
because
what
you've
described
is
an
experience
that
many
many
people
have,
which
is
that
the
reader
has
really
brought
alive
a
story
in
a
in
a
way
that
maybe
was
unexpected,
and
he
is
known
for
telling
charming
anecdotes
about
his
relationship
with
listeners
and
so
I
think.
It
really
really
be
a
fun
day
and
evening
and.
A
A
True
preparing
for
it
and
the
taping
process
I
think
it's
going
to
really
be
very,
very
interesting.
Thanks
for
mentioning
that
October!
Yes,
as
you
said,
is
going
to
be
a
very
very
busy
month
and
when
you're
not
attending
library,
programs,
I
hope
that
people
will
also
take
a
moment
to
check
out
some
of
the
new
resources
that
we've
added
to
our
website.
So
if
you
are
home
or
here.
C
A
The
library
and
wanting
to
enrich
your
experiences
and
continue
to
be
a
lifelong
learner,
the
friends
foundation,
has
really
supported
those
activities
as
well.
For
example,
we
are
now
live
with
mango
languages,
which
is
an
online
learning
software
and
it's
accessible
through
our
website.
If
folks
have
any
questions
about
using
mango,
please
ask
us
here:
at
the
adult
services
department
and
we'd
be
happy
to
share
more
information
about
that,
but
the
friends
foundation
has
supported
the
subscription
to
mango.
Also,
we
have
a
new
subscription
to
consumer
reports
and
a
little
bit
more
user
friendly
platform.
A
We've
had
consumer
reports
in
the
past.
It
still
exists
within
one
of
our
databases,
but
we
now
have
got
the
another
platform,
another
user,
friendly
presence
on
our
website
for
consumer
reports
that
was
supported
through
friends
foundation.
So
there
are
just
many
many
enhancements
that
make
my
life
my
work
even
more
fun
to
talk
about,
because
I
know
that
we're
connecting
with
our
community
in
so
many
rich
ways,
and
it's
largely
because
of
the
supportive
of
the
friends
foundation
and
library
users
in
the
community
who
come
in
day
after
day.
B
Encourage
people
to
start
thinking
about
their
holiday
gift,
buying,
okay,
it's
never
too
early
and
they
can
come
to
literary
grounds
downstairs
of
the
library
that
is
our
bookstore.
That
is
also
run
by
the
Ames
Public
Library
friends
foundation
sales
committee:
it's
open
all
the
time
that
the
library
is
open,
features
really
wonderful
gently
used
books
that
have
been
donated
by
community
members
and
a
few
of
the
withdrawn
books
from
the
library
after
they
have
served
well
on
the
shelves
here.
B
Literary
grounds
features
some
of
the
nicer
books
that
we
get,
but
we
also
have
book
sales
and
the
friends
foundation
sponsors
those
as
well.
Those
are
major
fundraisers
for
the
friends
foundation
and
there's
a
book
sale
coming
up
early
November,
so
I
know
this
is
an
October
program,
but
get
that
on
the
calendars.
As.
A
A
A
A
C
A
Well,
thank
you
so
much
for
joining
me
today.
As
you
can
see,
October
is
a
month
that
you
are
going
to
want
to
really
be
paying
attention
to
what's
happening
at
the
library.
So
pick
up
an
issue
of
page
one
check
out
our
Facebook
page.
We
are
really
doing
our
best
to
get
the
word
out
about
special
events
on
our
Facebook
page,
and
so
we
hope
that
you
will
look
there
as
well.
A
If
you
have
more
questions
about
the
activities
that
are
happening
here
at
the
library,
as
always
feel
free
to
contact
me
stop
by
the
adult
services
desk
at
the
library
or
should
I
see
my
email
at
the
library's
desk
by
clicking
on
ask
a
librarian
from
the
library's
website.
This
is
Mary
Logsdon,
thanking
you
for
being
with
me
here
at
your
library.
