Description
Mayor's Weekly Update - December 16, 2020
A
Update
with
the
mayor,
you
know
I
want
to
on
the
front
end
mention
this,
and
that
is
that
you
know
with
the
holidays
rapidly
closing
in
on
us
that
we
will
not
have
a
press
conference
next
wednesday,
but
that
we
will
have
one
the
wednesday
after
that,
which
I
believe
is
the
30th.
A
So
I
just
want
to
get
that
out
on
the
front
end.
I
know
that
a
lot
of
us
were
expecting
a
little
bit
more
snowfall
today
than
the
way
things
turned
out.
No
one's
complaining,
at
least
I
am
not,
but
kyle
might
be
complaining
a
little
bit.
I
don't
know
how
much
kyle
likes
the
the
snow.
A
I
love
it,
but
I
know
it's
a
challenge
to
drive
in
for
some
people,
but
kyle.
Please
give
us
the
what
the
next
seven
days
has
in
store
for
us.
B
So
today
we'll
look
for
some
snowy
conditions:
a
high
of
31
chance
of
snow
100
percent
snow
king
weighing
two
to
three
inches
tonight:
snow
showers,
love
29,
chance
of
snow
50
percent
snow
accumulating
one
to
two
inches
tomorrow
afternoon.
Snow
high
of
31
chance
of
snow
50
percent
snow
can
rain
four
to
six
inches
tomorrow.
A
Rain
and
snow
showers,
but
a
high
of
51.,
interesting
yeah.
It's
this.
This
to
me
is
just
our
typical
to
me,
our
typical
november
december,
so
thank
you.
Kyle
for
the
weather,
update
and
and
kyle
remind
us
all
kind
of.
I
know
that
you
really
do
a
great
job
of
tracking
tropical
storms
and
hurricanes,
but
we
broke
records
this
year.
Didn't
we
for
for
tropical
storms
and
hurricanes
for
hurricane
season.
A
It
was
a
rough
rough
hurricane
season
this
year
for
sure
here
in
the
united
states
kyle
you
would
you
please
give
us
an
update
on
the
coronavirus
and
where
we're
at.
B
A
Yeah,
the
the
vaccine,
as
I
understand
it,
has
already
arrived
here
in
the
state
of
ohio.
It
has
been
mostly
concentrated
in
some
of
the
larger
municipalities,
but
it
will
work
its
way
down
to
our
part
of
the
state.
A
I
just
got
this
in
from
the
athens
city
county
health
department
and
that
being
today's
numbers,
we
are
currently
looking
at
607,
known,
active
cases,
2087
recovered
and,
unfortunately,
again,
six
individuals
who
have
succumbed
to
the
coronavirus.
A
Those
numbers
for
today
it
looks
like
our
numbers-
are
down,
have
been
going
down
somewhat
for
the
past
couple
days,
but
just
because
we're
seeing
them
come
down
does
not
mean
that
we
need
to
let
our
guard
down.
We
cannot
let
our
guard
down
when
it
comes
to
the
coronavirus
so
continually
going
to
ask
and
tell
people,
please
wear
a
mask
when
you're
out
in
public
or
a
mask
when
you're
going
into
a
business
open
to
the
public.
A
Just
just
to
let
people
know,
I
went
down
and
received
a
covet
fast
test
today
this
morning
earlier
today,
and
that
was
the
first
coronavirus
test
that
I
have
had.
That
was
a
nasal
swab
and
while
it
was
a
tad
bit
uncomfortable
it
was,
it
was
seamless
to
do.
A
I
went
down
to
shrivers
to
have
that
done.
You
can
certainly
go
to
cvs
schedule,
an
appointment
and
have
it
done
there
as
well
to
where
you
don't
necessarily
have
to
be
experiencing
symptoms.
There
is
a
cost,
but
if
you
suspect
that
you
have
come
in
contact
with
someone
who
has
tested
positive,
it's
never
a
bad
idea.
A
You
know
to
go
and
get
the
testing
that
you
you
may
need
if
nothing
else,
to
put
your
mind
at
ease.
So
keep
that
in
mind.
But
again
mascot
mask
up
it's
easy.
It's
a
piece
of
cloth!
A
Kyle!
If
you
would,
I
know
you've
got
rustling
rufus
standing
behind
you.
You
know
talk
to
us
a
little
bit
about
ou
athletics.
What's
going
on.
B
Teams
will
be
determined,
who's
going
to
be
playing
at
home
and
all
you
did
not
make
their
championship
game
in
detroit
on
friday,
at
7,
30
p.m
and
the
mac
men's
basketball
would
begin
on
the
29th
and
miami
and
women's
mac.
Basketball
starts
today
at
niu
and
enrollments
basketball.
Home
games
will
begin
mag,
home
games,
beginning
january,
2nd
at
one
o'clock,
and
then
wrestling
will
begin
at
the
same
time,
and
then
soccer
will
begin
march.
4Th.
A
Yeah
it'll
be
good
to
see
both
women's
athletics
as
well
as
the
men's.
You
know
we're
looking
into
the
spring
season
for
sure
so
kyle.
Thank
you
as
usual.
Thank
you
for
everything
and
kyle.
I
want
to
wish
you
and
your
family
a
merry
christmas
holiday
season
and
you
and
I
will
certainly
get
together
again,
virtually
the
on
the
30th
for
the
billions
for
new
year's
eve.
The
last
weekly
update
of
2020.
A
hard
to
believe
it's
gone
so
fast.
So
thank
you.
Kyle
you're,
welcome.
I've
got
several
items
to
share
today
that
are
worth
noting.
One
of
the
biggies
is
that
the
athens
public
transit
system
will
be
making
some
changes,
and
these
are
effective
saturday
december
19th,
and
what
they
are
is
that
all
athens,
public
transit,
fixed
routes
will
eliminate
all
fares,
so
it'll
be
free.
Everyone
can
ride
on
the
athens
public
transit
free
of
charge.
A
There
will
be
suspended
service
on
saturdays,
so
plan
accordingly,
but
that
won't
be
happening
line.
Seven
will
run
once
every
two
hours
rather
than
once
per
hour
route.
Seven
or
line
7
is
a
line
that
runs
from
albany
through
athens
to
nelsonville.
A
So
there
will
be
a
change
there.
It
will
be
every
two
hours
rather
than
once
per
hour
lines.
Three
and
four
will
stop
their
service
at
7
00
pm
both
of
those
so
keep
that
in
mind
as
well.
A
A
740-767-4500
bus
pass
sales
will
also
be
suspended
until
further
notice.
Again,
that
is
temporary,
but
the
bus
pass
sales
are
going
to
be
temporarily
discontinued
due
to
recent
spikes
in
the
covet
19
cases.
In
an
effort
to
reduce
potential
exposure
to
the
public
and
employees,
the
city
of
athens
will
be
suspending
the
sales
of
the
bus
passes
to
the
public
here
at
town
hall,
city
hall
and
again,
that
is
until
further
notice.
A
So
keep
that
in
mind
in
order
to
ride,
you
may
continue
to
use
your
already
purchased,
pitcher
pass
punch,
hole,
passes
or
cash
again.
This
is
when
the
fares
are
reinstituted
as
well.
If
you
have
any
questions
about
that,
you
can
reach
out
to
the
city
at.
A
Five
740-592-3347
two
two
seven
two
seven
christmas
tree
pickup.
This
is
always
good
to
put
out
to
everybody.
Athens
is
going
to
be
continuing
their
free
christmas
tree
pickup
of
discarded
live
trees
on
tuesdays
and
fridays,
beginning
december
29th
of
2020
and
continuing
through
the
month
of
january
of
2021.
A
Three
593-7636,
the
athens
city
auditor's
office
and
the
tax
department
are
only
meeting
with
citizens
through
appointments
again.
This
is
due
to
the
up
or
the
increase
in
coping
19
cases.
A
If
you
would
like
to
schedule
an
appointment,
please
email,
leanna,
woods
at
l,
woods,
w-o-o-d-s
at
ci,
dot,
athens.oh.u.s,
again,
l,
woods
at
ci.athens.oh.u.s
and
schedule
an
appointment
to
meet
with
the
auditor's
office
or
with
the
tax
administrator
arts
parks
and
recreation.
While
registration
for
winter
2021
programming
is
going
on.
Now,
you
can
register
in
person
at
the
community
center
or
call
in
to.
A
It's
an
individual
sporting
event.
There
will
be
no
teams,
the
cost
per
participant
is
25.
A
The
center's
goal
is
to
still
provide
kids
with
some
opportunity
in
some
amount
of
court
time
to
enjoy
and
hone
their
basketball
skills.
So
again,
if
you're
interested
in
signing
your
child
up
or
children,
you
can
call
592-3325
for
the
dribble
pass
and
shoot
competitions
competition.
A
The
park
smarter.
This
is
a
new
app
that
the
city
is
going
to
be
using.
We
are
now
exclusively
using
park
smarter
app
to
pay
for
parking.
You
can
still
use
dimes
and
quarters
of
the
meters.
A
A
Www.Parksmarter.Com
to
learn
more
about
that,
the
I
already
mentioned
the
tree
pickup
and
the
bus
route
changes.
A
So
I
really
don't
think
I
have
a
whole
lot
left
to
share
other
than
I
again
am
really
hopeful
that
everybody
have
a
safe
and
fruitful
holiday
season,
especially
with
the
upcoming
christmas
holiday
and
other
holidays,
and
we
will
return
again
on
the
30th
just
before
new
year's
eve
before
the
last
weekly
update
with
the
mayor
for
2020.,
2020
has
really
been
as
you're
all
well
aware
and
extremely
challenging
year,
and
I
was
just
asked
the
other
day
at
a
meeting
that
I
was
attending.
A
You
know
in
one
word,
you
know
describe
how
you
see.
A
2020
2021
in
the
new
year,
and
all
I
could
think
of
is-
is
saying
2021
with
a
knot
in
my
head,
as
opposed
to
having
to
say
2020
by
shaking
my
head.
I
believe
2021
is
going
to
be
a
great
year
as
we
move
forward
with
the
vaccine
on
its
way
with
again.
Hopefully,
people
continue
to
to
do
the
most
responsible
thing
that
all
of
us
can
do,
which
is
wearing
a
mask
washing
hands
frequently.
A
So
you
know
social
distancing,
not
gathering
in
large
crowds,
especially
during
the
holidays,
and
reducing
your
movements
throughout
our
community.
Be
smart,
be
wise,
be
safe
and
have
a
great
holiday
season.
Take
care,
and
hopefully
we'll
see
you
again
on
the
30th
of
january,
the
30th
of
december,
as
we
get
into
the
last
weekly
update
with
the
mayor
for
the.
