Description
Mayor's Press Conference - May 10, 2023
A
B
Happy
Wednesday
afternoon
welcome
to
Kyle
Johansson
and
the
mayor
for
our
weekly
update.
It's
a
been
a
wonderful
weather
week.
So
far
yeah
yeah
beautiful
beautiful
out
there
right
now
is
this
going
to
hold
Kyle
for
the
next
seven
days.
C
tomorrow,
probably
quality
hop
85,
1256,
Friday,
scattered
storms
or
showers,
nice
73,
12,
61,
Saturn,
scattered
storms,
high
of
79
455
members
day,
mostly
cloudy
High,
77,
low
50.
Monday,
probably
cloudy
High,
74
low
47
next
Tuesday,
probably
cloudy
high
of
77
below
48,
and
next
Wednesday.
We
got
probably
cloudy
house
74,
149.
C
C
Home
stretch
and
then
we
got
Copperhead
season
starting
in
27
days,
first
game
705,
June,
6,
Auburn
stadium,
also
fireworks
night
and
then
there's
19
home
games.
I
can't
wait
for
a
copperhead
season
start
and
then
it's
bizarre
because
football
starts
but
won't
be
surprised.
Our
footballs
times
schedule
will
be
announced
next
week
because
football
starts
before
class
starts
in
August,
which
they
go
to
San
Diego
first,
and
they
come
back
for
a
home
moment
for
Labor
Day
weekend.
B
B
In
June,
okay,
yeah
copperheads,
it's
great
that
they're
going
to
be
back
in
play
again.
It's
always
fun
watching
the
Copperheads,
and
then
this
evening
the
Athens
High
School
girls,
softball
team
is
playing
there
as
I've
been
told,
doing
an
outstanding
job,
and
so
you
know
encourage
people.
That's
at
five
o'clock.
It
is
ticketed
over
there.
My
wife
and
daughters
and
I
are
gonna.
B
Go
watch
them
play
as
my
daughters
are
softball
players,
so
it's
always
fun
engaging
them
with
not
only
the
OU
softball
team
and
having
my
daughters
watch
them
play,
but
also
the
high
school
team.
So
there's
a
lot
going
on.
First
off
I
want
to
congratulate
again
the
graduating
class
at
Ohio,
University
and
I
also
want
to
congratulate
everyone
involved
in
move
out.
B
So
that's
always
great
to
hear
and
again
we
had
a
pretty
successful
spring
season
when
it
came
to
things
like
mill,
Fest
and
high
Fest
and
Palmer
Fest
when
I
say
successful
in
that
again,
no
major
incidents
at
all
and
things
kind
of
Wrapped
Up
by
4
30
in
the
afternoon
at
the
Fest.
So
it
was
great
and
the
only
way
that
can
happen
is
with
the
cooperation
and
safety
being
recognized
by
the
student
body
at
OU.
B
So
and
then
in
July,
the
new
president
of
Ohio
University,
Lori,
Stewart
Gonzalez,
will
be
taking
putting
on
the
mantle
as
being
the
23rd
president
for
a
university.
So
we
have
that
to
look
forward
to
and
then
the
well-deserved
farewell
for,
the
outgoing
president
president
Hugh
Sherman
parking
garage
power
washing
shifting
gears
completely
started
will
start
this
week
and
it
will
run
through
the
19th.
B
They
will
be
power
washed
on
a
given
day,
and
so
we
will
temporarily
have
to
kind
of
close
things
on
and
off
throughout
this
process.
So
it's
great
I
mean
it
needs
to
be
power
washed
as
part
of
our
maintenance
that
we
have
to
do
on
the
parking
garage.
B
Keep
that
in
mind
if
you're
a
parking
garage,
user,
first
Dora
event
before
I,
get
into
that.
Let's
just
go
ahead
and
talk
through
a
reminder
for
everybody
for
the
Athens
designated
outdoor,
refreshment
area
and
I.
Think
Ryan
has
the
footprint
of
the
Dora
there.
It
is
an
orange
it
pretty
much
captures
all
of
Court
Street,
at
least
from
Carpenter
and
properties,
north
of
carpenter,
all
the
way
down
to
court
and
Union,
and
then
Courtney,
Union
or
Union
Street
I
should
say
all
the
way
down
to
the
depot.
B
So
there
you
see
the
footprint
again.
This
is
now
operational.
Seven
days
a
week.
Originally
it
was
Thursday
Friday,
Saturday
Sunday,
with
the
success
that
we
saw.
We
decided
that
we
were
going
to
transition
to
seven
days
a
week
Monday
through
Thursday.
The
Dora
will
be
active
from
5
PM
until
10
pm
Monday
through
Thursday.
B
The
Dora
is
a
outdoor
refreshment
area,
the
outdoor
designated
refreshment
area,
the
door
itself.
What
it
allows
for
is
the
purchase
of
a
beverage
from
one
of
our
participating
bars
or
restaurants,
and
to
be
able
to
enjoy
that
beverage
outside.
Within
the
Dora
footprint,
you
will
have
to
purchase
a
Dora
cup
which
the
establishments
should
have
readily
available
and
then,
whatever
the
drink,
your
choice
is
and
then
be
able
to
walk
around
or
find
an
outdoor
seat
somewhere
at
one
of
our
benches
or
the
courthouse
steps
or
wherever
and
enjoy
it.
B
Even
in
Army
Park,
you
can
enjoy
your
Dora
beverage.
The
first
Dora
event
of
the
summer
is
also
coming
up
soon:
May
19th
from
6
p.m,
to
11
p.m.
Again
within
the
Dora
we're
encouraging
people
to
bring
your
dancing
shoes,
because
it's
going
to
be
outside
of
Tony's,
it
will
be
on
State,
Street,
West,
State
Street
between
Congress
and
Court
Street,
there's
also
a
free
movie
night
associated
with
this
first
event.
Within
the
Dora
system
on
May
19th
there'll
be
the
inflatable
cities.
B
Inflatable
movie
screen
is
going
to
go
up,
I,
don't
know
if
they
have
announced
exactly
which
movie
they're
going
to
be
showing
yet
or
not.
I
know
that
they
were
trying
to
decide
on
one
of
two
Blues
Brothers
or
Dirty
Dancing,
so
I
would
be
in
favor
of
watching
The
Blues
Brothers.
Again
it's
been
a
while,
but
that
will
be
a
lot
of
fun
so
again,
the
19th
between
6
p.m
and
11
p.m.
On
West
State
Street
between
Congress
and
Court
Street
that
will
be
closed
and
there
will
be
a
lot
of
interesting
things.
B
There
will
be
a
band
that's
playing
on
that
space
as
well
up
until
8,
30,
6
30
to
8.
30
is
east
of
Hedon
that'll
be
playing,
and
then
from
there
to
the
movie.
We
encourage
people
to
bring
a
chair.
Your
own
folding
chair
for
enjoying
that
event
on
the
19th,
if
you're
interested
I,
know
that
my
wife
and
I
will
be
there.
Hopefully
we
see
you
there
as
well.
B
The
other
thing
I
want
to
bring
up
is
I
got
a
notice
from
Arts,
Parks
and
Recreation.
They
are
busy.
They
have
been
working
around
the
clock.
It
seems
to
get
the
pool
ready
for
our
2023
season,
which
is
set
to
open
on
the
27th
of
May
to
have
the
pools.
Reopening
it'll
be
great.
I
know
that
they've
been
working
hard
on
doing
a
lot
of
cosmetic
work
down
there
or
new
surfaces.
They
put
a
new
Surface
on
the
splash
pad.
B
B
The
we're
working
hard
to
certify
as
many
lifeguards
as
possible
to
be
water
safety
instructors,
which
helps
with
lessons
in
our
community,
so
Catherine,
Ann
Jordan,
is
doing
great
things
in
the
world
of
Athens,
Arts,
Parks
and
Recreation
to
include
getting
the
pool
ready
for
people
to
enjoy
third
Thursday
summer
concert
series
we
talked
about
this
before
and
I.
Think
Ryan
has
an
image
there
for
you
to
look
at
May,
18th,
June,
15th,
July,
20th
and
August.
B
17Th
are
the
dates
where
behind
the
community
center
bring
a
blanket
or
a
chair
and
listen
to
local
bands
and
food
vendors
that'll
be
down
there.
So
take
advantage
of
that.
These
are
free.
The
vendor's
food
is
not
free,
I'm
sure,
so
you
want
to
bring
some
cash
to
get
some
deliciousness
from
one
of
our
food
vendors.
These
events
will
be
from
6
to
8
P.M.
During
again.
B
Those
dates
so
come
check
that
out
matter
of
fact,
if
you're
really
into
all
this
May
18th
to
go
to
the
first
summer,
concert
series
event
and
then
on
the
19th,
come
down
to
State,
Street
in
front
of
Tony's
and
Jackie
or
Tony's
and
casa
and
enjoy
music
as
well
as
a
movie.
B
Let's
see,
oh
a
couple,
things
I
want
to
share
and
I
know
that
we
can't
get
this
up
on
the
screen,
which
is
unfortunate,
but
you
know
I'll
try
to
get
Ryan
something
to
where
maybe
the
next
press
conference.
We
can
share
this,
but
we
are
getting
the
finalized
plans
for
the
drive,
Ohio
autonomous
vehicle
testing
loops,
or
at
least
the
the
roadways
that
they
are
going
to
be
using
here
in
the
city
of
Athens.
B
There
are
not
extensive,
but
they
are
interesting
in
that
one
of
the
loops
goes
from
the
plains
to
Athens
and
in
Athens
it
will
be
running
along
682
between
West,
Union
or
56.
All
the
way
down
to
the
Richland
Avenue
roundabout,
then
jumping
on
Richland,
Avenue
and
heading
Uptown
until
it
gets
to
it,
looks
like
West,
Union
and
then
West
Union.
It
heads
back
out
of
the
city
along
West,
Union,
all
the
way
up
to
682
and
then
682
to
the
plains.
B
The
other
test
Loop
doesn't
really
use
any
of
the
city
streets,
but
it
does
go
through
the
city
on
33
and
50..
So
it's
a
loop
that
goes
33
to
50
and
then
it
goes
all
the
way
out
to
the
Athens,
County
Engineers
office
and
then
up
690
is,
if
you're
heading
to
Albany
and
then
jumps
on
550
and
goes
all
the
way
down
around
to
close
to
Chancey
and
then
comes
back
down
682
actually
through
the
planes.
Then
back
around
again.
B
So
it's
an
interesting
loop
again
I
will
get
those
to
Ryan
so
that
we
can
have
the
viewing
audience
be
able
to
see
what
I'm
talking
about
upcoming
meetings,
oh
well
before
I,
get
to
upcoming
meetings
on
the
the
Athens
rotary
will
be
having
a
peace
poll.
It's
a
peace
poll
dedication
in
Army
Park.
They
have
installed
on
a
one
of
our
smaller
grind
stones
in
the
parklet,
the
Armory
Park,
and
so
at
3
30.
B
This
Saturday
there
will
be
a
dedication
and
then
people
are
encouraged
to
head
over
to
the
Southeast
Ohio
History
Center,
to
learn
more
about
the
history
of
rotary
and
the
Athens
rotary,
which
has
been
around
for
decades
and
understand
more
about
rotary
and
its
impact
on
our
community
and
its
impact
on
things
globally.
So
encourage
people
to
check
it
out
and
join
us
for
the
peace
poll.
Dedication
upcoming
meetings,
we've
got
the
Athens
Municipal
Arts
commission
we'll
be
meeting
today
at
5
30
at
Arts
West,
the
Athens
community
relations
commission.
