Description
Mayor's Press Conference - October 26, 2022
B
You
know
Kyle,
it's
like
I
feel
like
we
have
now
entered
into
the
fall
Vortex
as
opposed
to
the
polar
vortex,
because
we
went
from
75
degree,
weather
or
whatever
it
was
to
Haiti
down
to
really
normal
fall
weather.
So
what
do
we
have
in
store
for
the
next
seven
days?
Kyle.
C
C
C
In
coveted
cases
there's
been
now,
a
new
bear
has
been
spotted
in
the
United
States
still
been
called
to
be
q1
or
the
bq121,
and
this
still
counties
as
much
as
one
percent
of
canoe
covet
cases
per
day
and
also
now
I
get
my
update,
booster
shot
tomorrow
at
CVS.
It's
the
modern
building
booster
shot
tomorrow
and
then
after
that,
she'll
be
all
good
to
go
for
another
year.
C
In
sports
we
got
a
field
hockey
game
2
p.m.
Senior
day,
they'll
have
free
holidays
for
the
first
100
students.
It's
the
last
field,
hock
game
of
the
2022
season,
and
then
that
night
we
got
volleyball
at
the
combo
seven
and
then
Saturday.
We
got
three
spring
events
at
home.
We
got
the
swim
and
Diving
meet
against
battle;
the
bricks
Miami
RedHawks
at
11,
the
cross
country
championship
at
11
A.M
and
in
the
volleyball
game
at
Saturday
at
four
and
then
on
Saturday
volleyball
game.
C
You
guys,
if
you
guys,
dress
up
on
the
volleyball
game
on
Saturday
I'll,
have
trucker
trick
or
transfer
out
the
Cabo
and
offense
can
dress
up
and
you
get
in
for
free
and
speaking
of
trick-or-treating
there's
a
special
event
going
on
at
the
market
on
a
state
where
the
farmer's
market
will
no
longer
be
it.
During
the
winter
months,
that's
called
the
Athens
Community
truck
or
treat
it's
from
5
30
P.M
to
7
30
P.M
to
mark
on
state
Athens,
Ohio
right
off
of
State
Street.
C
C
Thursday
November,
17th
and
in
the
bear
cast
assistant
will
be
here
in
December
as
well,
so
those
are
team
games
will
be
more
interesting
and
watch,
especially
for
the
Bearcats
as
well.
The
first
time
here,
but
the
woman's
team
went
to
Ohio
State
in
2019
before
covet
happened
and
we
won
against
Ohio,
State
and
Ohio.
State
will
be
here
in
about
three
from
three
weeks
from
tomorrow.
A
B
I,
don't
know,
maybe,
while
we're
going
through
some
other
items,
Scott
can
do
some
fact
checking
for
us,
because
that
is
kind
of
integral
to
this
weekend
here
in
the
city
of
Athens,
several
items
to
bring
up
today,
Athens
pre-planting
at
the
Hocking
riparian
Forest
Area.
B
This
is
the
area
that
we
have
been
working
on
for
the
past
year,
two
years
now
hard
to
believe
this
is
just
south
of
the
community
center,
where
we
have
recreated
the
understory
by
removing
a
lot
of
the
invasives
and
continuing
to
move
it
remove
invasives,
but
now
it's
time
to
reintroduce
native
plantings
down
there.
So
what
we're
going
to
do
is
be
planting,
we're
hoping
that
we
can
get
people
to
help
us
out
on
November
12th
from
10
to
2
p.m.
B
Down
there
we're
going
to
meet
up
down
by
the
community
center
off
the
bike
path
and
we
are
going
to
be
planting
staking
and
putting
putting
watering
bags
I
believe
it
is,
and
installing
deer
guards
to
protect
the
new
plantings
that
we're
going
to
do
down
in
the
riparian
forest
area,
things
to
bring
bring
something
to
to
a
bottle
or
some
container
for
water
for
yourselves
snacks,
appropriate,
clothings
coats
boots
and
bring
some
gloves.
B
If
you
are
wanting
to
do
something
like
this,
we
encourage
you
to
RSVP
by
reaching
out
to
Jen
Bowman
at
Bowman
J
number
two
Joe
Bowman
J
2
at
ohio.edu
and
do
it
by
November,
5th
rain
or
shine
thunderstorms
certainly
would
cancel
such
an
event.
But
if
it's
raining,
then
we're
still
going
to
proceed
with
doing
this.
The
makeup
date,
if
there
is
a
thunderstorm,
would
be
Saturday
November
19th,
but
we're
planning,
like
I,
said
on
doing
that
on
the
12th.
We
also
have
Arbor
Day
coming
up
at
us.
B
Arbor
Day
celebration
is
going
to
be
November
4th,
so
it's
right
around
the
corner,
it'll
be
at
3
P.M
at
the
new
East
State
Street
dog
park,
or
is
that
dog
parks
a
plural,
because
we
have
a
large
dog
and
a
small
dog
park
down
there?
Now
there's
going
to
be
a
short
Proclamation
that
I'm
going
to
be
presenting
at
the
Arbor
Day
celebration
and
I
think
that
the
the
government
channel
is
going
to
be
down
there.
Broadcasting
live
as
well
so
come
on
down
and
help
us
plant
at
least
one
tree
during
that
ceremony.
B
You
know,
speaking
of
the
community
center,
you
may
have
seen
in
the
local
newspaper
the
Athens
Messenger
that
the
Athens
Farmers
Market
is
planning
to
move
to
the
community
center
under
the
solar,
solar
panels
and
that'll
start
next,
Wednesday,
November,
2nd
and
then
Saturday
morning,
the
5th
of
November.
They
will
be
selling
their
things
down
there
at
the
community
center,
so
just
FYI
that
they
are
moving.
B
There
is
a
city
ordinance
that
has
been
in
place
place
for
many
years
that
would
permit
the
Athens
farmers
market
for
to
vend
down
at
the
community
center
Athens
Community
Center
anniversary
membership
special.
This
is
a
one
more
one
month:
membership
for
twenty
two
dollars.
B
It's
hard
to
believe
that
the
community
center
is
22
years
young.
So
it's
the
for
the
community
center's
birthday.
October
is
the
birthday
month,
so
take
advantage
of
the
22
dollar
membership
for
the
month
Futsal.
We
talked
about
this
before
youth
Futsal,
with
registration
for
grades
six
through
eight
down
at
the
community
center.
So
if
that's
your
jam,
you
know
register
it's
a
kind
of
a
good
deal,
35
dollars
per
child
per
time
slot.
B
The
dates
are
November
8th
through
the
15th
of
December,
there's
no
play
on
Thanksgiving,
nor
is
there
any
play
on
12
13,
so
it's
Tuesdays
and
Thursdays
so
take
advantage
of
that.
It's
indoor
again
grades,
sixth,
seventh
and
eighth,
and
it
is
co-ed
so
check
that
out.
The
eighth
annual
Athena
award
I've
mentioned
this
before
that
presentation
will
be
on
November
2nd,
which
is
Wednesday
from
5
to
6
p.m.
At
Arts
West,
if
you
plan
to
attend
that
event,
masks
are
required.
B
As
per
the
Athens
Commission
on
disabilities,
there
are
masks
KN
95s
at
the
door.
If
you
forget
your
mask,
but
make
sure
that
you
make
note
of
that,
they
think
they
are
requiring
some
other
things
because
of
people
who
would
be
attending
or
members
of
the
commission
on
disabilities,
that
there
are
individuals
that
are
immunocompromised,
and
so,
since
at
a
high,
is
a
higher
risk.
They
are
also
asking
for
proof
of
vaccination
to
attend
that
event.
B
So
just
keep
that
in
mind
the
2022
leaf
pickup.
They
know
that
Ryan
has
something
to
throw
up
there
right
now.
This
is
again
simply
a
reminder.
This
is
also
on
the
city's
website.
B
We
are
currently
or
soon
to
be
in
area
one.
Currently,
we
are
in
area
three
going
around
with
the
leafer
truck
and
picking
things
up
next
week,
it'll
be
bounce
back
to
the
Far
East
and
the
East
neighborhoods,
also
the
north
neighborhoods
up
off
cable,
Lane
and
whatnot,
and
then
it'll
move
its
way
back
around
and
again
just
make
note
of
the
final
rounds
and
then
the
final
sweep
the
final
sweep
being
December
12th
through
the
16th
the
good
deal.
B
B
They
are
looking
for
people
who
would
like
to
serve
as
a
new
commissioner
on
the
Athens
Municipal
Arts
Commission
mentioned
this
in
the
past,
or
the
the
vacancies
in
the
past.
So
if
you're
interested
you
can
reach
out
to
the
AMAC
chair,
Chelsea
morehand
and
she
can
be
reached
at
AMAC
AMAC
at
ci.athens.oh.us.
B
If
you
want
to
be
a
part
of
that
Planning
Commission
for
boards
and
commission
meetings,
there
will
not
be
City
Council
on
the
31st,
which
is
Monday,
because
this
fifth
Monday
the
month
Planning
Commission,
will
be
meeting
in
here
on
Thursday
the
3rd
of
November.
That's
hard
to
believe
that
October
is
almost
over
12
o'clock.
So
if
that's
something
that
you
would
like
to
attend
in
person
or
watch
Us
online
because
we
will
be
streaming
live
some
other
things
that
are
going
on
this
weekend's
a
big
weekend.
B
For
obvious
reasons,
it
is
the
Halloween
block
party
on
the
29th
where
Court
Street
closes
down.
As
I've
mentioned
the
past.
The
city
is
working
hard
to
make
for
more
family-friendly
opportunities
during
the
daytime
hours
between
1
and
6
pm
the
city
and
in
particular
the
Arts
Parks
and
Recreation
Department
of
Arts
Parks
and
Recreation
has
taken
on
a
lot
of
the
programming
that
is
going
on
on
Court
Street.
There
have
been
some
some
thoughts
out
there
that
the
Uptown
Business
Association
or
the
Chamber
of
Commerce
has
been
orchestrating
the
events
they
have
not.
B
It
has
come
through
the
city
itself.
As
again
we
are
taking
ownership
and
and
programming
for
things
throughout
the
day
that
it
is
the
Department
of
Arts,
Parks
and
Recreation.
That
has
done
the
programming
from
one
to
five
PM.
There's
a
lot
of
family
activities
going
on.
We
have
Rock
and
Reggie
there's
face
painting
the
scavenger
hunt
Special
programming.
B
At
the
stage
there
will
be
a
kids
costume
catwalk
at
the
stage
we're
having
Hocus
Pocus,
drag
queens,
reading
and
musical
performances,
there's
going
to
be
the
Uptown
Business
Association
trick-or-treat
between
2
30
and
4
30,
and
then
we
also
have
the
honey
for
the
heart
parade.
That's
coming
at
us
from
5
to
6
p.m.
Gathering
at
the
central
venue
again,
the
city
as
always
partnering
with
passion,
work
Studio
to
make
the
honey
for
the
heart
parade
a
great
event
as
it
has
been
for
many
years
and
then
from
6
to
10
p.m.
B
The
stage
will
have
a
number
of
performances
at
the
stage,
a
big
shout
out
to
Brandon
Thompson
for
managing
all
of
the
musical
performances
that
you
will
see
at
the
stage
between
6
and
10
p.m.
At
10
pm
the
stage
will
shut
down
and
the
streets
will
be
cleared
and
traffic
flow
will
resume
that
evening
late
evening.
B
So
that's
where
the
music
performances,
as
well
as
the
kids
costume
catwalk
across
the
stage,
there's
I,
know
that
the
university
has
opened
up
its
parking
until
7
PM
for
things
that
are
taking
place
up
on
Court
Street
in
the
Uptown
area.
So
there
is
plenty
of
parking
to
be
had
throughout
this.
The
University's
parking
spaces,
but
just
know
that
after
7
PM
or
at
7
pm
and
later
the
university
will
be
enforcing
and
ticketing
and
vehicles
potentially
subject
to
being
towed
in
the
university
parking
spaces.
B
So
pick
your
favorite
neighborhood,
where
you
think
you
can
take
advantage
and
get
the
most
candy
possible,
I
think
kids
kind
of
strategically
figure
that
out
on
their
own
and
go.
You
know,
I
want
to
go
to
this
neighborhood
or
that
neighborhood
and
make
a
big
haul
or
not,
but
that
is
taking
place
like
I
said:
Monday
October
31st
between
5
30
and
7
30
pm
that
all
said,
Kyle.
Thank
you
as
usual,
and
you
can
see
that
we're
kind
of
pretty
far
away.
B
Oh
Ohio
state
is
away
this
weekend,
so
just
FYI,
I,
I'm,
never
sure,
especially
on
Halloween
weekends.
Whether
Ohio
state
is
or
is
now
we
kind
of
are
mindful
of
that,
but
that's
somewhat
irrelevant.
But
that
all
said
again
thank
you
for
tuning
in
and
please
join
us
again
next
week
for
the
next
weekly
update
with
Kyle
Johansen
and
the
mayor.
Take
care.
