Hurricane preparedness outreach
A
A
Guys
of
the
Biloxi
fire
chief
hurricane
season
is
from
June
to
November
of
each
year
and
the
City
of
Biloxi
wants
to
help
you
prepare
your
family
and
property
for
storms
and
flooding.
Are
you
ready,
as
the
city's
outreach
program,
to
help
get
you
ready
for
storm
season
by
bringing
together
agencies
that
work
with
storm
preparation?
A
B
After
you
take
pictures
and
document
your
damages,
you
can
start
moving,
removing
the
debris
to
the
street
for
removal
by
the
city
or
its
contractors.
The
city
is
not
allowed
to
enter
a
private
property
to
pick
up
debris,
so
residents
are
required
to
get
the
debris
to
the
side
of
the
street.
All
debris
placed
at
the
street
has
to
be
sorted
into
separate
piles.
Different
types
of
piles
have
to
be
disposed
of
at
different
landfills.
B
B
B
As
soon
as
it's
safe
to
drive
after
the
storm,
the
city
will
start
to
push
debris
out
of
the
city
streets
and
start
to
assess
how
much
debris
is
present.
Depending
on
the
volume
of
debris.
The
city
will
either
pick
up
the
debris
or
will
bring
in
a
debris
removal
contractor
this
typically
starts
within
a
week.
B
When
there
is
not
a
lot
of
debris
present,
the
city
can
typically
make
one
pass
through
the
entire
city.
In
two
weeks,
the
city
does
a
minimum
of
three
complete
passes
through
the
city
to
make
sure
all
the
debris
is
removed
before
making
the
last
pass,
the
city
will
publicize
that
information,
so
that
residents
know
ahead
of
time.
B
We
try
to
stay
in
constant
contact
with
residents
throughout
this
process.
If
you
have
any
questions
or
concerns
either
now
or
during
a
debris.
Removal
project
residents
are
always
welcome
to
call
the
city
engineering
department
at
228-435-6269.
Residents
can
also
visit
fema.gov
or
mima.gov
for
additional
information
on
debris
removal.
Thank
you.
C
Are
you
ready?

that
hurricane
season
officially
begins
on
June
1st
and
if
you
did
not
have
flood
insurance
now
is
the
time
to
get
it.
Remember
that
flood
insurance
policies
take
30
days
to
go
into
effect
and
no
policies
are
issued
once
a
hurricane
enters
the
Gulf,
whether
you're
in
a
flood

or
not
flood
insurance
is
very
important.

like
to
take
a
few
minutes
to
remind
the
residents
of

the
importance
of
preparing
your
vessels
for
the
upcoming
hurricane

Preparation
is
the
key
so
be

Hello
I'm
kicking
with

it's
important
to
be
sure
to
include
your
pets
needs
and
your
disaster
preparedness
plan
and
evacuation
pack.
Here
are
some
tips
for
your
pets
before,
during
and
after
a
storm,
be
sure
that
your
pet
is
microchipped
and
that
your
contact
information
is

assist
you
with

handy,
bring

large
enough
for
your

E
Take
your

Veterinary
records
with
you,
as
well
as

emergency
kit
for
your

make
sure
you
have
enough
food,
water
and
medication
to
last
up
to
several
days.
Know
your
local
evacuation
centers
and
call
ahead
to
see
if
they
accept
pets
and
remember
if
it's
not
safe
for
you,
it's
not
safe
for
your
pets.

G
Hello,
I'm
Kayla
Maureen
Griffith,
with
Mississippi
Power
at
Mississippi
Power
safely.
Restoring
your
electric
service
after
a
storm
is
our
top
priority.
We
are
constantly
making
updates
to
strengthen
our
system,
to
reduce
the
length
of
an
outage
and
to
get
the
lights
back
on
safely
and
efficiently.
G
We
Believe,
proactively,
creating
and
reviewing
your
family's
plan
is
a
critical
step
that
you
can
take
when
the
sun
is
shining.
So
you
know
what
to
do
when
storm
clouds
form
after
a
storm
keep
away
from
loose
or
dangling
power
lines.
Any
power
line
could
be
energized.
You
can't
tell
just
by
looking
at
it.
Also
don't
attempt
to
repair
the
electrical
system
or
pull
tree
limbs
off
lines.
Let
our
trained
work
Crews
perform
this
potentially
dangerous
work
to
help
you
stay
informed.
G
You'll
also
receive
information
about
how
long
the
outage
is
likely
to
last
and
when
the
outage
has
been
restored
at
Mississippi
Power
every
employee
has
a
storm
roll
and
we
understand
that
getting
your
lights
back.
On
is
the
first
step
back
to
normalcy,
let's
hope
for
the
best
and
plan
for
the
worst.
As
we
begin,
the
2023
hurricane
season
stay
safe.
H
Be
storm
smart.
This
storm
season
keep
your
peace
of
mind
and
save
time
and
money.
Take
steps
now
to
protect
your
property
from
future
storm
damage.
First,
remove
all
dead
tree
branches
from
your
property,
even
if
they
are
far
from
your
home
or
another
structure,
they
can
become
dangerous
dangerous
if
swept
up
by
strong
hurricane
winds,
also
make
sure
that
your
home
is
free
from
overhanging
limbs.
H
Keep
in
mind
that
clearing
branches
can
be
dangerous,
so
it's
usually
best
to
hire
a
professional
when
you
plant
a
tree
near
your
home,
keep
a
distance
greater
than
its
full-grown
height,
but
between
the
tree
and
the
structures
on
your
property
for
more
tips
on
protecting
your
home.

Did
you
know
that
more
than
50
percent
of
tornadoes
in
the
Southeast
occur
at
night?
Nocturnal
tornadoes
contribute
to
multiple
fatalities
each
year.
Why?
Because
most
people
are
asleep
when
the
tornadoes
come
through
and
have
silenced
their
phones,
so
they
do
not
receive
the
warnings.
H
Nighttime
tornadoes
in
the
Southeast
are
especially
deadly
due
to
the
prevalence
of
mobile
homes
and
high
population
density
in
our
region.
Many
unsafe
structures
are
found
in
rural
areas
on
isolated
plots
of
land
and
places
that
are
difficult
for
emergency
services
to
reach
and
that
do
not
have
appropriate
storm
shelters.
H
A
recent
study
found
that
tornadoes
that
occur
at
night
are
two
and
a
half
times
more
likely
to
result
in
a
fatality,
and
the
trend
has
been
going
up,
meaning
that
the
problem's
gotten
worse
a
common
myth
is
that
tornadoes
are
more
common
in
States
like
Kansas
or
Oklahoma.
However,
if
you
look
at
the
data,
you
will
see
that
most
tornado
fatalities
actually
occur
in
Alabama
and
Mississippi.
H
You
can
be
a
leader
in
keeping
your
friends
and
family
safe
during
a
tornado
event,
request
a
magnet
for
your
refrigerator
that
reminds
you
to
have
multiple
ways
to
receive
alerts
during
the
day,
and
especially
during
the
night
practice
where
you
would
go
in
the
event
of
a
tornado
watch
and
warning.
Is
your
structure
safe?
If
not,
where
is
the
closest
shelter?
Do
you
have
something
to
cover
your
head
in
case
there
is

debris?
