A
Welcome
to
Bloomington
today
I'm
Emily
taplan
thanks
for
joining
us.
First,
we
bring
you
the
Buzz
for
the
week
of
August
23rd
through
the
29th
Bloomington.
Voters
will
have
the
chance
to
decide
what
the
future
of
Bloomington
looks
like
in
the
November
election.
After
two
years
of
gathering
input
from
residents,
the
city
developed
a
long-term
investment
Plan
called
Bloomington
forward.
It
would
support
three
major
Community
projects
for
Better
Health,
Wellness,
Athletics,
Recreation
and
improved
natural
areas
on
Tuesday
November,
7th
Bloomington.
A
Voters
will
consider
a
half%
local
option:
sales
tax
to
finance
$15
million
in
bonds
as
part
of
a
Citywide
referendum.
If
you
would
like
to
see
exactly
how
those
three
questions
will
be
worded
on
the
ballot
just
visit,
blmn
vote,
you
can
also
learn
more
about
how
exactly
the
money
would
be
invested
and
read.
Frequently
asked
questions
just
visit,
Bloomington
forward.org
to
learn
more.
The
city
of
Bloomington
recently
hosted
a
group
of
students
from
Ukraine
Global
Synergy
group,
a
nonprofit
based
in
St
Louis
Park
has
facilitated
the
ulead
youth
leadership
Exchange
program
since
2012.
B
This
week,
we're
here
with
the
city
of
Bloomington
learning
about
the
role
of
municipal
government
and
specifically
for
this
community.
How
do
they
engage
voice
from
the
community
in
designing
and
serving
its
residents.
C
Our
co-ed
staff
have
worked
together
to
figure
out
a
way
to
have
really
exciting
conversations
get
to
know
each
other
talk
about
the
value
of
building
cities
and
then,
when
you
have
the
dream
and
when
you
have
the
vision,
how
do
you
channel
that
great
input
ideas
that
people
have
and
then
turn
it
into
things
that
become
real
in
real
life,
that
you
build?
That
you
see
come
true
in
your
community.
D
I
think,
for
me,
the
main
goal
of
our
trip
of
our
journey
of
our
experience
exchange
is
that
we
go
back
to
Ukraine
and
we
rebuild
our
country
with
the
knowledge
that
we
gained
here.
E
We
had
a
lot
about
democracy.
I
just
want
to
integrate
it
into
Ukraine
I'm
now
entered
University
and
I
will
be
Diplomat,
so
I
will
communicate,
maybe
with
America,
maybe
with
other
countries.
So
it
will
be
great
for
me
to
know
as
much
as
it
possible
about
democracy,
capital
of
this
of
the
world.
F
I
wanted
to
become
an
artist
and
I
want
to
like
like
share
something
to
people.
I
just
want
to
say
something
to
people,
and
mostly
artist
is
a
leader
of
minds
of
group
Minds,
so
I
think
I
just
wanted
to
know
how
to
to
connect
with
people
more
and
understand
what
people
wants
and
understand
what
people
thinks.
What
a
group
of
people
thinks
and
to
just
make
more
connections.
A
After
their
time
at
City
Hall,
the
group
also
visited
the
Minnesota
Valley
National
Wildlife
Refuge
took
a
tour
of
the
South
Loop
and
stopped
by
Mall
of
America
make
sure
your
calendars
are
marked
for
Sunday
September
10th
for
the
Bloomington
Pride
event
for
support
and
planning
the
next
celebration.
Bloomington
Pride,
a
group
of
Bloomington
volunteers,
is
partnering
with
Twin
Cities
Pride.
The
event
had
previously
been
planned
by
the
city
of
Bloomington
Bloomington
pride
and
Twin.
Cities
Pride
will
work
together
to
ensure
the
event
continues
to
grow
in
years
to
come.
G
We're
really
just
here
as
kind
of
that
mentorship
to
to
teach
and
learn
about
what
it
takes
to
put
on
an
event.
I
really
do
like
to
see
it
I
think
it's
important.
It
shows
the
citizens
of
that
Community
the
support
behind
it.
So,
even
if
it's
an
event
with
a
couple
hundred
people
up
to
you
know
ours,
which,
which
is
600,000
right,
it's
important.
It
shows
those
citizens
that
this
is
the
place
that
they
belong
and
they're
accepted
and
wanted
here.
A
City
manager,
Jamie
verbie,
says
this
new
partnership
allows
residents
to
continue
to
be
the
leading
voices
in
local
Pride
event
planning.
He
says
it
speaks
directly
to
the
city's
strategic
plan
Bloomington
tomorrow,
together,
which
supports
efforts
to
strengthen
a
well-connected,
diverse
and
welcoming
Community.
A
The
Bloomington
Pride
Celebration
is
on
Sunday
September
10th
from
noon
to
5:
at
Bloomington
Civic
Plaza
did
you
know:
Bloomington
Civic
Plaza
is
20
years
old
for
70
years,
Bloomington
city
government
operated
out
of
Old
Town
Hall
before
moving
across
the
street
to
the
former
Municipal
Building
at
2215
West
Old
Shi
Road.
In
1964,
40
years
later,
the
city's
operations
moved
to
the
current
facility,
which
opened
to
sered
the
public
May
27th
2003.
A
The
facility
followed
six
guiding
principles
composed
by
a
facility's
task
force
in
1999,
including
creating
a
City
Campus
being
mindful
of
residents,
money,
respecting
the
value
of
city
employees,
renewing
and
rejuvenating
built
to
last
and
built
to
serve.
That
is
the
buzz
on
Bloomington
today
for
the
week
of
August
23rd
through
the
29th.
If
you
would
like
to
watch
other
stories
from
the
show
go
to
this
week's
playlist,
there
you'll
find
the
battle
of
the
bad
plants
is
on
at
Harrison
Park,
with
some
good
visitors.
Thanks
for
watching.
