From YouTube: Diverging Diamond Interchange Update September 2013
Description
Get a first look at how to maneuver a new innovation in traffic coming soon to Bloomington's South Loop District.
A

A
Interchange
has
a
lot
of
left
turns
and
right,
Tunes
turns,
and
not
very
many
through
movements,
because,
if
you're
going
through
you're
going
straight
to
the
airport,
you're
going
straight
into
south
loop,
but
most
everyone
is
coming
in
off
the
freeway
and
going
back
onto
the
freeway.
This
compact,
diverging
diamond
design,
moves
the
left
turns
and
the
right
turns
with
free
movements.
Since.

The
ramp
work
one
at
a
time,
has
allowed
the
contractor
to
develop
the
right
turn
and
left
turn
movements
that
are
required
for
the
DDI
design.
So
to
date,
the
contractor
in
the
ramp
areas
has
been
working
on
extending
the
pavement
areas.
They
re
using
as
much
of
the
existing
pavement
as
possible,
but
with
the
new
o
DDI
design,
the
Virgin
diamond
design,
additional
pavement
width
was
needed,
an
additional
configuration
and
so
that
that's
the
work
that
has
been
focused
on
to
date.
C

A
Than
having
drivers
take,
traditional
left
turns
which
have
the
drivers
turning
left
across
the
oncoming
lanes
of
traffic.
The
lanes
will
cross
over
at
the
controlled
intersection
cars
can
exit
to
the
right
as
normal.
They
will
then
go
through
a
light
where
they
are
safely
shifted
to
the
left
side
of
the
road.
This
gives
the
drivers
direct
access
to
a
free
left-hand
turn
ramp.
They
then
go
through
another
stoplight,
where
they're
shifted
back
to
the
right
side
of
the
road
to
carry
on
is
normal.

Contractors
activities
will
focus
on
thirty-fourth
Avenue
in
the
next
few
weeks.
You
will
really
see
the
DDI
design
come
to
shape.
As
the
contractor
works
on
completing
the
crossover
intersections
installing
traffic
signal
systems,
we
could
have
SPECT
to
see
motors
utilizing
the
DDI
starting
in
november.
