Description

On October 6, 2015, the Charlotte Fire Department honored 126 employees who went extraordinary lengths to protect the citizens of Charlotte. This is Station 27's story of the rescue of a person trapped underneath a vehicle.

On June 10th I was headed over to a friend's house to help her learn how to change her brakes and rotors and after I got there, and we had gotten the truck jacked up and the tires and brakes and everything off. We decided to then jump under the truck and change the oil as well.

The only the impact of the truck come down on us just the last thing. I remember thinking was staying the prayer thinking wow this is it.

One point before we started: actually lifting the vehicle up I saw the patient. Who was you know very deep purple was not breathing was unconscious when we got there.

We used the the hydraulic tool to lift up the vehicle off his chest and he was out from underneath the vehicle in less than three minutes. As we.

Started lifting and cribbing as soon as we got some of that weight off I saw that big agonal breath like thank you Jesus. At least we got a fighting chance on this guy. He.

Went to cardiac arrest, initiated CPR and he was loaded and in the ambulance in Rachel the hospital eight minutes later. Some.

Days later, I remember waking up in the hospital to my parents telling me what had happened and.

Where I was, we were very fortunate and blessed that we were able to save the guy. Definitely.

Somebody watching out for me, yeah I've, always had a very strong faith and it's situations like that, where it just makes everything a little stronger for.

You, the whole incident was a success because of the team effort and everybody had their job and everybody knew their job I'm.

Doing great you've been back to work for almost three weeks now and feel physically fine, and if it wasn't for station 27 I would probably not be here telling this story. So I'd like to say thank you to them and all they've done for me.
