From YouTube: Memorial Day Ceremony 2023
Description
City of Chelsea
B
Good
morning,
everyone-
that's
that's
what
our
service
members
deserve
just
want
to
thank
each
and
every
one
of
you
for
sacrificing
the
time
to
to
come
down
here
and
honor
their
sacrifice
each
year.
It's
it's
bittersweet,
I
love
the
the
fact
that
we
can
Advocate
and
help
veterans,
but
on
Memorial
Day,
it's
always
challenging
to
not.
B
That
sort
of
to
choke
up
a
little
bit
about
the
ones
who
aren't
here
remembering
veterans
like
Francis
hedersen,
Anthony
Smith.
B
These
were
all
parts
of
the
the
fabric
of
our
community
I,
remember
as
a
child,
watching
them
perform
saying,
be
part
of
the
community
volunteer
and
each
year
I
becomes
more
challenging
to
come
up
and
look
at
look
at
all
of
their
sacrifices
together.
B
Okay
and
now,
as
we
commence
the
city
of
Chelsea,
2023,
veteran
Memorial
Day
ceremony,
excuse
me
I'd
like
to
call
forth.
B
C
D
B
E
Good
morning
to
everybody,
we
thank
the
Lord
for
this
morning,
allowing
us
to
have
this
privilege.
Usually
this
is
done
by
Pastor
Francisco
Caro
who's
been
around
for
a
lot
of
years,
so
he
couldn't
make
it
this
morning,
so
we
actually
do
it,
so
we
honor
all
the
soldiers.
We
all
know
the
people
that
have
been
in
the
line
of
battle
the
family
members
that
are
left
behind.
So
we
wanted
to
read
them.
One
scripture,
then
we're
going
to
do
a
prayer
for
the
whole
families.
E
E
This
moment
this
privilege
that
you
honor
us
that
we
honor
all
those
reverence
we
honor
those
veterans
or
those
people,
this
Memorial
Day
that
you
may
bless
them
little
father,
the
ones
that
are
left
behind
the
ones
that
align
the
battle.
That
you'll
continue
to
bless
all
the
families
and
all
the
ones
that
are
here
in
this
awesome
event
that
you
are
allowed
in
this
precious
day
in
the
name
of
Jesus,
who
prayed,
amen
and
amen.
A
A
I
want
to
thank
you
for
being
here,
it's
very
important
to
see
my
colleagues
here
to
celebrate
those
who
made
it
possible
for
us
to
be
here
walking
on
this
land
and
a
manner
that
we're
able
to
navigate
our
own
country
in
our
own
City.
So
remember
those
who
sacrifice
for
us
and
for
those
of
you
who
may
not
know
to
my
left,
there's
a
stone
put
11
Chelsea
friends
who
did
not
make
it
home
from
Vietnam,
so
I
always
want
to
recognize
them
in
regards
to
their
sacrifice.
F
Foreign
good
morning,
it
is
a
privilege
and
a
blessing
to
be
here.
I
always
find
this
day
memorial
day
to
be
near
and
dear
to
my
heart.
F
I
grew
up
what
they
say
as
a
military
brat.
My
dad
was
in
the
Air
Force
for
22
years,
and
we
actually
lived
overseas
and
I
recall,
going
to
a
military
base
for
school
and
I.
Just
I
always
felt
so
much
pride
being
a
U.S
citizen
and
being
living.
We
were
living
in
Spain
at
the
time
and
I
would
get
bust
in
to
go
to
school
on
a
military
base
and
it's
not
lost
on
me.
F
How
many
lives
that
were
lost
and
we
celebrate
what
this
day,
but
we
honor
the
people
who
have
died
for
what
we
have
today,
our
freedom,
and
so
with
that.
I
would
like
to
introduce
our
wonderful
students,
Juan
Lopez.
He
is
in
eighth
grade
and
he
is
at
the
right,
Science
and
Technology
Academy
and
he's
going
to
be
doing
the
governor's,
Proclamation
so
Juan.
If
you
could
come
up
and
we
have
a
proclamation.
G
Thank
you
for
giving
me
this
opportunity.
I
will
now
bring
a
proclamation,
whereas,
where
the
nation
was
still
recovering
from
the
forest
of
the
Civil
War
people
in
cities
and
towns
across
the
country
gather
to
honor
those
Union
and
Confederate
soldiers
had
given
their
lives
celebrating
the
first
Decoration
Day,
and
whereas
after
World
War
One,
the
nation
came
together
again
to
honor
those
who
had
fallen
in
the
surface
of
their
country.
G
Renamed
Memorial
Day
last
Monday
in
May
is
when
people
remember
and
honored
the
memory
of
all
the
men
and
women
who
fought
and
died
in
all
the
American
conflicts.
And
now,
whereas,
throughout
our
country's
history,
thousands
of
Massachusetts
citizens
have
fought
in
wars
and
conflicts
to
defend
our
safety
and
the
way
of
life,
and
whereas
the
Legacy,
patriotism
and
declaration
to
our
country
is
inspired,
inspiration
to
all
Americans
and
whereas
it
is
appropriate
that
all
Massachusetts
citizens
Remember
The
Bravery
of
those
who
have
given
their
lives.
G
F
You
now
what
we'll
do
is
we're
going
to
do
something
a
little
bit
different
this
year.
We
wanted
to
really
honor
all
the
places
and
different
monuments
in
the
city
of
Chelsea,
and
so
our
students
wrote
special
reports
about
different
monuments,
different
areas
to
celebrate
that
our
veteran
that
remember,
memorialize
our
veterans
and
so
the
first
student
that
we
have
is
NOLA
lit
secure
from
grade
four
from
the
hooks
elementary
school,
so
Nola
Whit
Baker.
If
you
could
come
up.
H
My
name
is
Noah
and
I'm
here
to
read
about
the
Chelsea
Neville
Hospital
on
Admiral
Hill,
the
Chelsea
naval
hospital
was
opened
on
June
7th
1836
on
Admiral
Hill.
It
was
one
of
the
first
hospitals
serving
Navy
personal
during
the
Civil
War
Spanish
American
war
and
Chelsea
fire
of
1908..
The
name
changed
from
Chelsea
Naval
Hospital
to
Naval
Hospital
Boston
by
1915
the
hospital
accommodate
up
to
100
patients,
the
Boston
Naval
Hospital
treated
both
President
John
Quincy
Adams
and
President
John
F
Kennedy.
I
J
Good
morning,
everyone
I
wrote
this
paper
about
the
Chelsea
garden
cemetery,
so
I'm
gonna
start
reading
right
now.
My
name
is
Edison
Martinez
and
I'm.
In
fourth
grade
at
the
Brookwood
School
I
recently
learned
about
the
Civil
War
and
the
different
monuments
and
people
we
honor
over
the
last
few
weeks,
I
have
conducted
research
on
the
historical
Chelsea
garden
cemetery.
It
is
located
right
here
in
Chelsea
Massachusetts,
the
exact
address
is
70
Central
Avenue
Chelsea
MA
02150
did
you
know,
Chelsea
garden
cemetery
has
more
than
1
600
priority
people.
J
The
mom
unit
is
important
because
it
holds
all
the
bodies
of
the
people
that
died
in
the
war.
It
is
important
to
talk
about
this
Monument
on
Memorial
Day,
because
it
honors
all
the
people
that
served
in
our
country.
One
interesting
fact
is:
the
cemetery
was
the
city's
only
version
down
until
1851
midward
Cemetery
was
founded
on
land.
That
is
not
part
of
Everest.
Another
interesting
fact
about
the
Chelsea
garden
cemetery
originally
had
a
fence
around
part
of
the
superior
Imaging
in
the
wooden
gate
house.
These
were
casualties
of
the
1908
fire.
J
One
final
interesting
fact
about
the
Chelsea
garden
cemetery
is
the
first
ever
garden.
Cemetery
is
Mount
Auburn,
which
is
located
four
miles
outside
of
Boston.
This
is
my
presentation
about
the
Chelsea
Garden
Center
through
the
whole
important
people
from
the
Civil
War.
Thank
you
for
listening
and
have
a
great
rest
of
your
day.
Thank
you.
F
D
How's
everyone
doing
today,
my
name
is
supreme
and
I
am
a
student
at
the
Kelly
School.
The
Chelsea
veteran
I
would
like
to
honor.
Today
is
Mary
C
Brooke
I
choose
to
tell
you
about
Mary
Seabrook
for
a
very
special
reason.
That
reason
is
that
my
school
complex
is
named
after
now
time
for
the
fun
part
getting
to
know
her
and
why
she
is
so
important
to
honor
Mary.
She
Brooke
was
born
in
Everett,
however
lived
in
Chelsea
for
most
her
life.
D
D
Because,
at
that
time,
efforts
given
by
women
were
not
always
recognized,
however,
because
those
of
her
bravery,
she
is
recognized
among
many
men
who
bravely
served
during
World
War
One
mayor
Seabrook
was
a
combat
nurse
during
World
War
One
and
served
courageously
in
France
to
help
cheat
injured.
Soldiers.
D
Mary
Seabrook
was
a
very,
very,
was
very,
very
brave
and
should
be
respected
for
what
she
did.
The
county
school
values
include
empty
effort
and
Excellence
mirishi
Brooke
showed
all
those
values
by
showing
empathy,
effort
and
Excellence,
since
I
am
and
I
am
proud
to
be.
A
County
School
for
students
and
I
am
proud
to
honor
Mary
C
Brooke.
Today
and
every
day.
F
I
F
F
You
know
what,
when
I
was
her
age,
I
don't
know
if
I
would
have
said
something
and
corrected
the
superintendent,
so
I
just
want
to
say
thank
you
to
this
amazing
student
who
spoke
up.
Who
said?
No,
that's
not
my
name.
This
is
my
name
and
so
I
so
proud
of
you.
You
have
an
amazing
voice
and
we
hear
you
so
thank
you
and
you
studied
the
Civil.
War,
Memorial
and
I
know
you're
gonna
be
awesome.
J
Hello,
hello,
my
name
is
Natalie
santiso
and
I
am
in
the
fourth
grade
at
the
sokolowski
school
I
researched
and
learned
all
about
the
Civil
War
Memorial
in
Chelsea.
This
Memorial
was
created
by
Franklin
Simmons
in
1866.
It
was
dedicated
to
the
167th
Chelsea
men
who
died
during
the
Civil
War.
It
is
located
on
Broadway
across
the
street
from
our
city
hall.
This
statue
was
special
because
it
was
the
third
Massachusetts
Monument
to
show
a
common
Soldier.
This
Memorial
Day
we
honor
and
recognize
all
men
and
women
who
gave
the
ultimate
sacrifice
and
I
hope.
J
F

K
I
I
L
L
The
final
sacrifice
to
give
the
last
full
measure
of
devotion
throughout
the
one's
country
as
our
Vietnam
Veterans,
as
our
Korean
veterans
in
the
other
monuments
indicated
in
Flanders
Fields
in
Flanders
Fields,
the
Poppy's
blow
between
the
crosses
row
and
row
that
Mark
our
place
and
in
the
sky,
the
locks
still
bravely
stinging
slide,
guess
heard
amid
the
guns
below
we
are
the
Dead
short
days
ago.
We
lived
now
gone,
so
our
Sunset
glow
loved
and
were
loved,
and
now
we
lie
in
Flanders
Fields.
L
A
A
A
It's
an
honor
for
me
to
introduce
the
keynote
speaker
and
Sergeant
Jose
Otero
Sergeant,
Hosea
tour
and
his
family
are
originally
from
Puerto
Rico
Sergeant
Otero
grew
up
in
Chelsea,
attended,
Prattville
Elementary,
our
lady
assumption
and
graduated
from
Pope
John
High
School
in
Everett.
He
enlisted
in
the
Marine
Corps
After
High
School
Sergeant
Otero
graduated
for
Faulkner
University
with
a
bachelor's
degree
in
criminal
justice
and
is
currently
seeing
as
cyber
security
degree
at
Buck
Hill
Community,
College,
Sergeant
Otoro
joined
the
military
to
see
the
world
while
serving
his
country.
A
He
served
in
the
Marine
Corps
from
1986
until
honorably
discharged
in
1990.
was
deployed
overseas
and
served
in
Europe,
North
Africa
and
the
Middle
East.
He
served
as
an
intern
infantry
fire
team
leader
with
the
rank
of
corporal
Sergeant
Arturo
became
a
Chelsea
police.
Reserve
officer
in
1996
graduated
from
Boston
Police
Academy,
2001.,
thereafter
becoming
a
full-time
officer,
was
promoted
to
the
rank
of
Sergeant
in
2015
and
is
currently
a
member
of
the
impact
shift.
And
at
this
time
I'd
call
Sergeant
Hosea
Toro
for
some
rap
Reeboks
and,
as
they
say,
hooah.
M
I
was
appreciative
of
Leo
asking
me
to
speak
today,
because
you
know
Memorial
Day
means
a
lot
to
Veterans.
You
know
a
lot
of
my
friends
who
we've
served
with
a
lot
of
them.
Didn't
come
back
and
it's
it's
important
for
those
of
us
who
made
it
back
to
honor
their
memory,
especially
on
this
day
that
the
nation
set
aside
to
do
so.
M
Today
We
Gather.
On
the
solemn
occasion,
the
Memorial
Day
to
Remember
in
honor,
the
brave
men
and
women
who
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice,
while
defending
our
great
nation,
is
a
day
of
remembrance
a
day
to
reflect
upon
the
tremendous
cost
of
freedom
and
the
day
to
express
our
deepest
gratitude
to
the
fallen
troops
of
the
United
States
Memorial
Day
holds
a
special
place
in
the
hearts
of
every
American.
M
It
serves
as
a
poignant
reminder
to
the
extraordinary
courage,
selflessness
and
unwavering
dedication
displayed
to
those
by
those
who
answered
the
call
of
duty,
knowing
that
their
lives
might
be
lost
in
the
pursuit
of
Liberty.
They
sit
tall
shoulder
to
shoulder
defending
the
values
that
Define
us
as
a
nation.
M
Who
fought
directly
on
the
countless
battlefields
from
the
Revolutionary
War
to
the
wars
in
Iraq
and
Afghanistan?
These
brave
men
and
women
fought
only
for
off
not
only
for
our
freedom
but
for
the
freedom
of
people
around
the
world,
carrying
the
torture,
democracy
and
Justice,
whatever
it
was
needed.
M
M
They
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice:
ensuring
that
the
torch
of
Freedom
will
continue
to
burn
brightly
for
generations
to
come
on
this
Memorial
Day.
Let
us
also
recognize
the
families
left
behind
the
mothers
and
fathers,
the
husbands
and
wives,
Sons
and
Daughters,
who
bear
the
weight
of
their
loved
one's
absence.
M
As
we
reflect
on
the
importance
of
this
day,
let
us
remember
that
Memorial
Day
is
not
just
about
picnics
and
barbecues,
but
about
honoring
the
memory
of
those
who
gave
everything
for
our
nation.
It
is
a
time
to
express
us
and
see
a
gratitude
to
those
who
wore
the
uniform
and
gave
their
lives
so
that
we
can
live
in
Freedom.
M
M
M
May
their
memory
be
a
blessing
and
may
their
Spirit
Inspire
us
to
be
better
citizens
to
cherish
the
freedoms
we
hold
dear
and
to
honor
their
legacy
with
every
act
of
kindness,
compassion
and
patriotism.
May
God
bless
the
Fallen
their
families
and
may
God
bless
the
United
States
of
America.
Thank
you,
foreign.
B
I
always
try
to
come
up
here
and
not
get
choked
up,
but
tough.
Some
years,
I
I
know
this
particular
year.
We
had
some
challenges
and
bringing
getting
someone
to
do
the
convocation.
We
had
a
few
cancellations
and
I
finally
came
across
a
minister
who's,
a
veteran
combat
veteran
in
Afghanistan
and
he's
a
licensed
counselor,
and
he
has
a
lot
of
experience
and
one
of
the
reasons
he's
not
here
is
because
today
he's
doing
his
reflection
his
way.
So
please
don't
discount
the
fact.
B
There
might
not
be
some
veterans
here
in
the
in
in
the
crowd
today
or
in
the
group.
Each
and
every
veteran
I've
learned
to
respect
that
they
will
mourn
in
their
own
way
and
in
recognition
of
that,
I
will
call
forth
some
part
of
our
group
here
and
and
to
place.
The
reefs
I'd
like
to
call
forth
from
the
DAV
Olivia
Walsh
and
from
the
veterans
of
the
foreign
war
Dana
Springer.
If
you
could
come
forth,
please
to
place
the
wreath.
I
B
Thank
you
and
I'd
like
to
call
at
this
point:
superintendent,
Almia,
beta
and
superintendent
Robert
Engel,
to
place
the
next
wreath.

P
You
know
over
1
million
individuals
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice
for
our
country,
the
history
of
our
nation
and
I,
always
say
when
I
speak
about
our
veterans
on
Memorial,
Day
and
Veterans.
Day
I
always
talk
about
how
there
isn't
a
group
of
people
throughout
the
world.
We've
done
so
much
for
so
many
than
a
U.S
service.
Member
they've
liberated
the
world,
they
brought
peace
to
Nations
and
they
allow
us
to
live
in
a
Land
of
freedom
and
liberty.
P
You
know
my
grandfather
was
in
World
War
II
and
he
never
wanted
to
go
back
to
Europe
because
of
the
atrocities
that
he
witnessed
and
the
friends
that
he
lost,
and
many
of
the
service
members
that
were
upbeat
of
the
sacrifice
were
much
older
than
these
kids
here,
playing
our
instruments
17
or
18
year
olds,
the
same
age
as
my
own
two
boys
right
now,
17-18
I
can't
even
imagine
them
going
off
to
a
place
where
they
don't
know.
Anyone
fighting
leaving
their
families,
but
that
is
what
our
service
members
have
done.
P
The
generations
and
when
you
look
at
the
Tombstones
I
had
the
opportunity
to
be
an
international
Cemetery.
The
last
few
more
days,
look
at
all
the
Tombstones
that
are
perfectly
lined
up
for
as
far
as
you
can
see,
white
tombstones,
perfectly
pristine,
with
names
on
them
and
not
just
names
but
dreams
and
hopes
that
were
not
fulfilled
and
also
members
of
their
families.
P
So
I
want
to
thank
Chelsea
for
always
being
there,
never
forgetting
our
veterans
and
their
families
and
showing
the
Commonwealth
of
Massachusetts,
and
so
many
people
why
this
community
is
so
great
and,
lastly,
I
just
want
to
just
touch
on
a
couple
of
things
that
sometimes
we
forget
the
scars
of
battle
do
not
end
in
the
battlefield
and
that's
why
the
Vietnam
memorial
wall
in
Washington,
DC
you'll,
see
a
special
section.
There.
P
Ptsd
is
real,
and
that
is
why
it's
so
important.
We
don't
forget
this
month
in
particular,
why
we
have
to
honor
those
who
came
before
us
and
came
home,
but
also
on
those
that
came
home
with
the
battle
scars
and
battle
wounds
that
never
fully
cured
recovered
from,
and
that's
why
we're
here
today
celebrating
and
honoring
our
veterans?
Those
came
before
that.
Thank
you
much
everyone.
Thank
you,
Chelsea
for
always
standing
up
and
God
bless
our
troops.
O
Thank
you
for
inviting
me
to
join
you
today
at
this
Memorial
Day
remembrance
here
in
Chelsea
such
history
here
in
Chelsea
standing
between
these
two
memorials,
which
say
it
all
quite
frankly
dedicated
to
the
memory
of
those
who
gave
their
lives.
That's
why
we're
here
is
to
remember
to
honor
and
to
pay
our
respect.
O
The
Massachusetts
veterans
home
at
Chelsea
recognized
Memorial
Day
on
Thursday
this
past
week
at
Woodlawn
Cemetery.
Some
of
you
were
able
to
join
us.
Thank
you
to
the
school
children
who
were
there.
It
really
made
the
event
quite
quite
special,
quite
remarkable.
It
was
so
good
to
be
able
to
be
in
person
again
with
so
many
people
veterans,
family
members,
Chelsea
High,
School
students
and
teachers,
the
superintendent
of
schools,
City
officials,
community
members.
We
very
much
appreciate
being
a
part
of
this
great
City,
Today,
We
Gather,
at
cemeteries,
monuments
and
Parks.
O
While
this
day
is
typically
spent
recalling
the
Valor
of
men
and
women
who
died
in
combat,
we
must
never
forget
those
quiet
professionals
who
answered
that
Noble
calling
to
serve
the
people
of
the
United
States
in
peace
time
as
well,
along
with
those
as
energy
Dominico.
So
athlete
commented
who
came
home
with
the
invisible
scars
of
War
only
to
succumb
to
them.
Much
later,
the
history
of
our
nation
and
those
who
serve
can
be
summed
up
in
a
short
and
simple
phrase.
O
They
are
extraordinary
people
who,
by
virtue
of
their
service
and
sacrifice,
have
become
truly
extraordinary
duty,
honor
country
they
lived
for
it,
they
died
for
it.
We
must
remind
ourselves
of
the
future
they
fought
for
and
do
our
best
to
live
up
to
those
values
in
the
days
ahead.
Let
us
acknowledge
the
debt
we
owe
to
the
men
and
women
of
the
United
States
military
who
have
guarded
this
country
with
their
lives.
O
Never
forget
our
service
members
who
know
all
too
much
the
cost
of
our
freedom
for
their
service
to
this
country
is
their
greatest
gift
and
that
gift
is
to
allow
for
all
of
us
to
live
here
today
in
Freedom,
God
bless
those
that
made
the
ultimate
sacrifice
and
the
loved
ones
that
they
left
behind.
God
bless
our
veterans
in
uniform
today
and
God
bless
the
United
States
of
America.
Thank
you.
Q
I'm
going
to
be
reading,
the
poem
called
how
sleep
the
brave,
how
sleep
the
brave
who
saved
to
rest
by
all
the
countries
wishes
blessed
when
spring
with
three
fingers:
cold
return
to
death,
their
holiday
move.
She

dress
a
sweeter
sock.
Then
Fancy
Feet
have
ever
tried
my
fairy
hands.
Their
nail
is
wrong
my
forms
and
see
their
dirty
song.
The
honor
comes
a
pilgrim
grade
to
bless
the
turf
that
wraps
their
clay,
a
freedom
shock,
a
wild
repair
to
dwell
a
weeping
permit.
There.
I
I
I
I
I
I
A
We
want
to
thank
you
for
being
here
and
sharing
to
stay
with
us.
Just
in
closing,
sometime
we
take
a
look
at
to
my
left.
Is
the
Black
Flag
people
are
wondering
why
why
are
we
doing
the
flag?
This
Flag
represents
prisoners
of
War
and
also
those
missing
in
action
that
maybe
never
came
back
to
this
country.
So
we
fight
a
flag
in
irana
and
we
want
to
make
sure
we
never
forget
who
they
are
at
this
time,
it'll
be
a
quick
