A
Oh
I
am
Rosemarie
Scott
with
Des
Moines
Community
Action
Agency.
The
cooling
program
is
our
featured
program
this
month,
hot
humid
summer
days
are
quickly
approaching
and
after
a
long
winter
we
definitely
are
looking
forward
to
more
days.
But
with
these
hot
days,
many
in
our
community
are
in
danger
of
heat-related
illness
simply
because
they
do
not
have
fans
or
air
conditioning
to
stay
cool
starting
june.
First,
we
will
be
offering
fans
and
air
conditioners
to
those
in
need
in
the
City
of
Des
Moines,
because
we
rely
solely
on
donations
for
this
program.
A
That
means
we
need
your
help.
Some
wine,
the
Des
Moines
Community
Action
Agency
and
the
Des
Moines
Fire
Department,
are
once
again
working
together
to
collect
new
boxed
man's
and
window
air
conditioners
to
distribute
to
low-income
families
in
the
city
to
be
eligible.
Feelies
must
meet
income
guidelines,
not
have
a
fan
in
our
home
or
have
a
signed
dr.
statement
that
air
conditioning
is
medically
needy
fans
and
air
conditioners
are
available
on
a
first-come,
first-served
basis
or
until
the
supplies
exhausted.
A
B
That
hot
weather
gets
to
you
don't
forget
our
grasp
cards
that
can
give
amazing
discount
on
pool
passes
for
your
whole
family,
with
our
partnership
with
the
Parks
and
Rec
Department,
you
can
sign
up
for
our
grass
card
at
our
6th
Avenue
site
office
and
enjoy
discounts
on
many
parks
and
rec
activities.
Have
you
already
signed
up
for
the
garden
program?
The
garden
project
is
a
unique
program
that
helps
encourage
families
to
grow
their
own
garden,
providing
healthy
food
options
as
well
as
a
great
family
activity.
B
The
City
of
Des
Moines
eligible
households
can
receive
a
$25
gift
certificate
from
a
local
garden
center
to
purchase
vegetables
or
fruit
plants
or
seeds
to
grow
their
own
garden.
Time
is
running
out
to
come,
get
these
certificates.
The
garden
program
has
already
started
and
ends
june
thirtieth
or
when
all
certificates
have
been
given
out.
If
you
are
interested
in
participating
in
the
garden
program,
please
come
see
us
at
our
6th
Avenue
office.
Once
you
have
your
garden.
B
Looking
its
best
come
to
a
preservation
and
canning
class
classes
are
being
offered
by
des
moines
Community
Action
Agency,
in
collaboration
with
the
Parks
and
Recreation
Department,
and
also
the
public
library.
These
classes
will
be
held
July
night
from
1130-2
1
p.m.
at
the
central
library
located
at
1000.
Grand
Avenue
space
is
limited,
so
please
register
by
calling
248
6216
just.
A
A
reminder,
in
addition
to
our
seasonal
programs,
we
also
have
programs,
year
round,
like
the
personal
pantry
food
pantry,
and
the
assessment
and
resolution
program,
assessment
resolution
or
anr
is
our
crisis
utility
program
designed
to
help
households
who
have
a
disconnect
notice
or
need
assistance
with
reconnection
of
services.
We
offer
an
hour
Monday
through
Wednesday,
and
it
is
a
first-come,
first-serve
program,
because
this
program
is
a
comprehensive
look
at
your
situation.
A
There
are
limited
number
of
spots
available
each
day
when
you
come
in
for
this
program,
a
family
development
specialist
is
going
to
do
the
following.
First
of
all,
we're
going
to
assess
your
financial
situation
with
mid-american
energy
by
exploring
payment
options
to
avoid
the
disconnect
or
reestablish
your
services.
Next
we're
going
to
complete
a
review
of
your
household
income
and
expenses.
Then
we're
going
to
determine
your
income
eligibility
refer,
you
to
other
programs
is
needed.
This
is
a
program
that
does
ask
for
something
from
you.
A
In
order
to
be
approved
for
assistance,
we
do
require
three
things:
an
adult
member
of
the
household
needs
to
attend
our
financial
and
energy
wise
class.
We
also
require
a
minimum
payment
of
ten
percent,
and
then
we
need
the
payment,
verification
or
agency
vouchers
for
any
additional
funds
needed
to
restore
services.
There's
a
few
things
you
should
know
about
this
program.
Our
funding
is
limited
for
anr
and
daily
availability
isn't
guaranteed.
We
open
our
doors
at
eight
a.m.
every
morning,
Monday
through
Wednesday,
and
fill
these
spots
with
a
first-come,
first-served
basis.
A
Appointments
are
generally
not
given
for
this
program
due
to
funding
availability.
Therefore,
I
strongly
encourage
you
to
comment
early
in
the
morning
and
secure
a
time
for
this
program.
We
have
given
you
a
lot
of
information
today,
so
if
you
would
like
to
learn
more
about
these
programs
visit
our
website
at
wwt,
IM
gorg
and
look
under
the
housing
services
tab
or
give
us
a
call
at
248
6
to
16,
we
are
often
asked
who
do
you
help?
A
We
help
the
City
of
Des
Moines,
your
neighbors,
your
friends
and
your
family,
and
sometimes
you
it's
no
secret.
The
budget
cuts
have
impacted
every
one
of
us
and
the
programs
we
offer
have
greatly
been
impacted
by
these
economic
changes.
The
truth
is
without
your
help.
This
summer
we
won't
have
the
fans,
we
won't,
have
the
air
conditioners
to
pass
out
to
those
in
need
in
our
community.
A
We
won't
have
the
funding
to
keep
utilities
on
in
the
home,
for
elderly
and
for
children,
and
we
won't
have
the
ability
to
provide
the
services
to
so
many
in
our
community
with
a
need.
Now
is
the
time
to
get
involved
in
your
community,
so
call
us
to
be
apart
and
find
out
how
you
can
help
des
moines
community
action,
we're
about
helping
people
creating
stability
and
empowering
the
community.
