Hi,
my
name
is
Jenna
Fletcher
with
Des
Moines
parks
and
recreation.
It's
my
pleasure
to
share
with
you
some
of
the
great
events
we
have
going
on
this
summer
for
it's
fun
for
all
ages,
and
even
your
four-legged
friends.
We
have
our
new
social
dancing
program,
called
dancing
at
the
lake
now
through
August
twenty-ninth,
every
Thursday
night
on
the
overlook
terrace
at
grayslake.
Lessons
start
at
seven
thirty
and
dancing
begins
at
80
p.m.
admission
is
free.
Every
Thursday
night
is
a
different
kind
of
dancing.
The
first
thursdays
line
dancing
the
second
thursday
is
contra
dancing.
A
The
third
thursday
is
salsa
dancing
and
the
fourth
thursday
of
the
month
is
swing.
Dancing
yoga.
The
park
is
back
again
this
summer
saturdays,
through
September
28th
at
the
southeast
corner
of
grayslake,
from
nine
to
ten
a.m.
admission
is
free.
We
have
another
great
line
up
about
der
movies
this
year
for
free
flicks,
Thursday
nights
through
September.
Fifth,
with
some
exceptions,
movies
will
begin
at
approximately
9
p.m.
right
after
sunset.
A
A
This
summer
we
hosted
the
us
youth
soccer
region,
two
championships.
This
had
a
great
financial
impact
on
the
Des
Moines
community
and
we
look
forward
to
hosting
this
again
next
year.
The
event
is
held
jun
22nd
through
the
26th
and
all
games
were
held
at
James
W,
County,
Soccer
Complex,
the
event
drew
3500
players,
teams
from
14
states
and
an
estimated
12,000
spectators
once
again
we're
hosting
an
event
from
National
Park
and
Recreation
month.
This
year,
Saturday
July
thirteenth
on
the
court
Avenue
Bridge
from
seven
a.m.
to
12pm.
A
It's
adjacent
to
the
downtown
farmer's
market
and
admission
is
free,
come
celebrate
park
offerings
by
building
awareness
of
all
the
great
things
that
we
do
also
new
this
year
with
online
registration
for
swimming
lessons
we
launched
the
initiative
may
27th
and
since
then
over
2500
accounts
have
been
created
over
1000
people
have
registered
for
swimming
lessons
in
17
days.
We
are
fifty
percent
full
ninety-one
percent
of
participants
registered
online
versus
the
nine
percent
of
we
actually
came
to
our
office.
This
year
we
offered
families
swim
nights
at
our
pools
and
aquatic
centers.
A
This
was
new
to
the
aquatics
program,
one
night
at
each
pool
this
summer,
families,
no
matter
what
the
size
can
pay.
Five
dollars
of
mission
and
swim
from
seven
to
nine
concessions
will
be
open
and
food
will
be
available
for
purchase.
This
is
an
affordable
way
for
families
to
enjoy
a
night
of
fun
at
the
pool
and
expand
facility.
Use
bark
in
the
park
is
a
second
year
of
our
partnership
with
the
Animal
Rescue
League
of
Iowa.
A
This
is
a
two-part
class
that
helps
dog
owners,
learn
how
to
better
understand
and
communicate
with
their
pet
Nick
McAuliffe
from
the
ARL
will
be
the
instructor
for
both
sessions.
The
first
session
called
how
to
speak.
Dog
language
was
held
june
5th
at
four
mile
community
center,
no
dogs
were
allowed
and
the
class
was
designed
to
teach
participants
how
to
recognize
their
dog's
body
language.
A
The
second
session
k9
communication
was
held
jun
12
at
the
riverside
dog
park.
Dogs
are
invited
to
this
class
and
will
teach
training
through
positive
reinforcement.
Dog
park
permits
are
required
for
both
classes.
This
is
just
one
of
the
offerings
we
have
for
the
dog
parks
as
we
seek
to
grow
the
programming
options.
Utilizing
these
facilities.
A
The
imagination
playground
was
a
very
popular
element
during
our
programs
at
the
community
center
this
one
winter,
so
we
decided
to
take
it
on
the
road.
This
summer.
The
playground
will
be
on
a
rotating
daily
schedule
which
began
june
third
and
will
continue
through
August,
ninth
from
ten
a.m.
to
1pm.
The
playground
will
hit
the
following
locations:
weekly
I'm,
sure
you're,
wondering
what
is
the
imagination
playground,
think
of
it
as
a
life-sized,
blacks
and
tinker
toys.
