this
is

parks.
Update
spring
is
just
around
the
corner
and
the
activities
picking
up
in
our
parks
check
out
what
we've
got
for
des
moines
residents.
In
march
last
year's
trash
bash
had
over
1100
volunteers,
working
on
64
teams
on
50
project
locations
throughout
the
metro.
These
volunteers
removed
litter,
beautified
the
parks,
cleaned
up,
storm
damage,
cleaned
out,
evasive
species
all
in
an
effort
to
improve
iowa's
water
quality
and
waterways.

Over
24
thousand
pounds
of
trash,
recyclables,
tire,
metal
and
brush
were
removed
and
38
pounds
of
cigarette
butts
were
collected.
This
year's
event
will
be
held
on
friday
april
19th,
registration
for
teams
and
individuals
begins
march.

Keeping
the
spirit
of
volunteerism
des
moines
municipal
cemeteries
are
looking
for
individuals
to
become
a
cemetery
steward
and
adopt
a
plot.
Work
could
include
picking
up
small
branches,
cutting
back
dead
flowers
and
brush
maintaining
headstones
and
reporting
disrepair
or
simply
picking
up
litter.
No
experience
is
necessary
and
training
supplies
are
provided.

that
time
again
time
to
start
thinking
about
the
mayor's
annual
ride
for
trails.
Mark
your
calendars
for
this
year's
event
to
be
held
saturday
april
20th.
The
annual
bike
ride
across
the
city
is
designed
to
raise
funds
to
help
improve
and
maintain
des
moines
recreational
trail
system.
Riders
of
all
ages
can
join
mayor,
frank
county
for
a
25
mile
route
through
many
area
neighborhoods.
These
are
25
dollars
per
adult
five
dollars
for
children,
ages,
5
through
18
and
children,
4
and
younger
are
free.

armchair
paddler
series
wraps
up
next
month.
You've
got
two
more
chances
to
attend.
This
informative
speaker
series
held
at
pioneer
columbus
community
center.
It's
brought
to
you
by
the
central
iowa
paddlers
and
des
moines
park
and
recreation.
Each
session
starts
at
7
pm
and
no
registration
is
required.

Birding
basics
is
back
at
gray's
lake
wednesdays
march
6
through
may
22nd
from
11am
to
11
45am,
and
this
is
hosted
by
local
birder
john
basell
march
6.
Through
april
10th,
participants
should
meet
at
the
beach
parking
lot
on
the
north
side
of
great
lake,
binoculars
are
provided,
but
extra
pairs
will
be
available
if
needed.
The
spring
program
is
free
and
open
to
all
ages,
come
out
and
experience
nature
in
the
heart
of
downtown
we've
expanded
the
hours
of
our
imagination
play
school
program.
So
now,
there's
more
time
for
fun.

and
your
little
one
can
play
every
wednesday
and
friday
from
9am
to
2pm,
come
out
and
enjoy
the
imagination,
playground,
slides
and
much
more
at
pioneer
columbus
community
center.
The
cost
is
1.50
for
each
child,
a
friendly
reminder
to
pet
owners
march
31st
is
the
deadline
to
purchase
a
pet
license
without
a
50
late
fee.
All
animals
6
month
and
older
must
be
licensed.
This
is
also
a
great
time
to
get
your
dog
park.
