A
I'm
having
to
the
city
manager,
Wally
Bob
coats
and
welcome
to
the
special
edition
of
Evanston
spotlight.
Normally,
this
program
talks
about
upcoming
items
on
the
city
council
agenda,
but
today
we're
here
with
Evanston
police
chief,
rich
Eddington
to
talk
about
Rich's
retirement,
rich
we're
coming
to
the
end
of
13
years
of
service
to
the
city
of
Evanston.
First
of
all,
congratulations!
Thank
you
very
much.
So,
as
you
are
reflecting
on
your
time
as
chief,
you
know
what
are
your
thoughts
about
Evanston
and
the
Avastin
Police
Department
all.
B
Positive
I
have
to
say
that
in
the
last
24
hour
period,
I've
met
with
two
different
citizen
groups:
I've
seen
they
kickoff
to
the
next
officer,
and
a
gentleman
mentoring
program
been
to
a
recent
graduation,
a
Citizens,
Police
Academy
and
all
those
contexts
with
the
community
are
unique
to
the
Evanston
Police
Department.
They
would.
They
have
taken
this
further
than
any
other
organization
of
a
liked
size
and
and
the
talent
of
those
men
and
women
I
think
portrays
a
bright
future
for
the
city,
especially
in
the
delivery
of
police
services.
B
They're
extremely
talented
group
and
I
think
that
the
connection
with
the
community
by
frequent
meeting
with
the
citizen
groups,
other
outreach
in
contact
shapes
the
direction
of
the
department
shapes
the
direction
of
the
delivery
of
services
alerts
us
to
the
upcoming
events
upcoming
issues,
so
we
can
get
out
ahead
of
them
and
engage
so
I.
I
am
thrilled
at
my
time
here.
This
has
been
the
pinnacle
of
a
44
year.
Police
career
and
I'm
I'm
happy
to
be
closing
it
out
here.
A
Violent
crime
has
has
been
an
issue
in
Evanston,
more
more
prominent
and
perhaps
in
some
years
of
your
tenure
than
others.
What
are
some
of
those
root
causes?
What
do
you
think
we've
been
able
to
do
as
a
community
in
the
last
few
years
to
combat
it,
and
how
do
you
see
the
future
as
far
as
violent
crime
in
Evanston
is
concerned?
I.
B
Think
we're
experiencing
an
all-time
low
in
in
violent
crime
at
least
and
the
last
several
years.
Certainly
last
decade,
but
I
want
to
emphasize
not
only
the
exceptional
work
of
the
police
department
through
deployment
and
intelligence
gathering,
but
this
is
a
unified
effort,
the
diversity
of
our
Parks
and
Rec
programs.
The
outreach,
the
the
job
acquisition
for
young
people
all
voles
have
a
synergy
that
has
impacted
on
crime
in
the
city.
Well,.
A
Chief
on
behalf
of
all
of
us
here
in
the
community,
thank
you
for
your
many
years
of
service.
We
wish
you
all
the
best
moving
forward.
Thank
you
for
keeping
Evanston
safe.
Thank
you,
I.
Have
it
tells
a
group
that
helps
me.
Thank
you
with
this
addition.
We
end
2018
of
Evanston
spotlight
on
behalf
of
all
of
us
here
at
the
city
of
Evanston.
We
wish
you
all
a
very
happy
holiday,
I'm,
Wally,
Bob
coats.
