A
Hi
I'm
Sergeant
Jody,
right
of
the
other
ten
Police
Department
I've,
been
a
member
of
the
police
department
for
over
14
years.
For
the
past
ten
years
have
been
one
of
the
apartments
training
instructors.
One
of
my
responsibilities
as
a
training
instructor
is
to
train
our
officers
in
the
use
of
the
Taser
electronic
control
weapon,
I
like
to
take
a
few
minutes
to
go
over
brief
overview
of
the
Taser
program
here
at
the
evanston
police
department.
The
Taser
is
a
less
lethal
force.
A
Option
used
to
control
combative
subjects,
with
minimal
risk
of
injury
to
the
subject
and
to
the
officer
the
Taser
is
designed
to
affect
the
skeletal
muscles
of
the
body
written
in
the
subject
incapable
of
using
those
muscles
in
the
affected
area.
The
evanston
police
department
first
deployed
the
Taser
in
July
of
2010.
At
that
time,
approximately
40
officers
were
trained
in
the
use
of
the
Taser
electronic
control
weapon.
A
As
of
april
first
of
2016,
all
of
our
offices,
from
the
rank
of
patrol
officers
up
to
the
rank
of
commander,
will
be
trained
in
the
use
of
the
Taser
electronic
control
weapon
every
year.
All
of
our
officers
are
recertified
in
the
use
of
the
Taser.
The
recertification
process
includes
handling
and
manipulating
the
Taser
electronic
control
weapon.
A
Some
measures
that
we've
included
in
our
policy
to
ensure
that
we
are
employing
best
practices
are
all
of
our
officers,
are
only
allowed
to
carry
their
tasers
opposite
side
of
their
weapon
in
an
approved
holster.
This
is
done
to
eliminate
the
possibility
of
weapon
confusion.
Doing
high-stress
incidents
called
tasers
that
I
carry
by
our
officers
must
be
carried.
What
the
attached
Taser
camera
the
camera
is
attached
to
the
handle
of
the
Taser
and
acts
as
a
power
supply
for
the
Taser
itself.
A
A
A
Some
statistics
we
are
proud
of
here
at
the
understand
Police
Department
are:
we
have
had
zero
injuries
caused
by
the
use
of
the
Taser.
We
have
had
zero
complaints
of
excessive
use
of
force
in
regards
to
the
Taser
and
we
have
had
zero
complaints
of
abuse
of
authority
or
intimidation
with
the
use
of
the
Taser.
A
These
statistics
are
important
to
us
as
a
department
because
they
show
us
that
the
policies
and
practice
that
we've
put
in
place
are
allowing
us
to
achieve
our
goal,
which
is
to
supply
our
offices
with
the
tool
which
allow
them
to
effectively
resolve
a
use-of-force
situation
with
minimal
risk
of
injury
to
themselves
or
to
the
combatant.
They
also
show
us
that
our
officers
are
not
abusing
the
use
of
a
Taser
and
are
using
the
Taser
in
accordance
with
the
apartments
policy
and
procedures.
A
Thank
you
for
taking
the
time
to
allow
me
to
educate
you
on
a
Taser
program
of
the
other
stem
Police
Department.
We
continue
to
update
this
program
and
our
policy
to
adhere
to
best
practices
for
safe
usage.
We
hope
this
information
gives
you
a
better
understanding
on
how
the
Taser
electronic
control
weapon
is
used
here
at
the
evanston
police
department.
Thank
you.
