Each year, a symbolic Super Bowl "Golden Shovel" is passed from one Super Bowl host community to the next. The NFL, Los Angeles Super Bowl Host Committee, Los Angeles Rams, Inglewood Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and NFL Partner Verizon are joining forces for this iconic moment, which is the kickoff for the numerous Super Bowl LVI community greening projects.

Over 140 volunteers joined the effort to plant 56 trees in honor of #SuperBowlLVI. They also participated in beautification projects including planting hundreds of flowers and plants, park clean up and painting.

This is without doubt, the the biggest and most community oriented passing of the golden shovel we have had in 18 years. This shovel has been passed along now for 18 years from one super bowl host city to the next super bowl host city, to represent the symbolic greening of super bowl like what you all are going to be doing here this morning today,.

We are planting 56 trees, we are planting flowers and painting and doing general cleanup. The tree types are camphor oak and chinese elms and they are beautiful. They've made an immediate impact just already, as we look at the pathways that they're being planted along. We have over 140 volunteers that have joined us today, representing over 24 organizations ranging from schools to sororities and fraternities and non-profits, I'm all interested in beautifying our park and giving back to our community.

We're planning 56 trees in honor of super bowl 56 and doing a lot of other great projects here, following this project, leading up to super bowl, we'll be working on up to a dozen other community events, we'll be planting community, gardens, planting trees, doing huge reforestation projects actually to help heal the wildfire damage out here and also doing habitat restoration projects, even a harbor cleanup. So we get our hands into just about everything green. We can imagine, in addition to the basic things like recycling and repurposing materials,.

I think it's a wonderful idea that we get volunteers to do this work.

It shows you how everybody has this feeling and everybody wants to be green, so uh I'm excited to be here. I can't wait for all these streets to grow up and I think tampa bay and all the representatives from them who came out here to help uh celebrate this day.

Five years ago, we learned los angeles would again host the nation's biggest sporting event. The last time the super bowl is in los angeles was 29 years ago. This is a huge achievement, not just because of the super bowl's incredible history and profile, but because of the positive impact, this event will bring communities across the region, but, most importantly, inglewood.

The biggest thing that's happened here is that we are part of the nfl all right. That's the biggest league of the world and we're gonna be home host to the biggest event in the world, and that's super bowl 56 this, along with the construction of sofa, has meant so much to the city. There'll be so many jobs generated so much revenue coming into the city. We're proud.
