*Important 2020 Census update: A federal judge has ordered the census to continue counting efforts through the end of the month. The Census Bureau will knock on doors as well as continue to receive census response forms until October 31, 2020.

A message from Minneapolis Mayor, Jacob Frey: We are grateful to the residents of the City of Minneapolis. We know that by working together, exercising our civic responsibilities, through voting, becoming a US citizen, completing the Census, being part of a Minneapolis Board and Commission, we make our community stronger. Citizens of the city of Minneapolis, let us make these commitments to ourselves and to each other, and make this Citizenship day one that we will remember forever.

The constitution of the united states of america was signed 233 years ago today on september 17 1787, and today we celebrate citizenship day. What does it mean to be a citizen of this country of this community?

Being a citizen of your community includes a commitment to our fellow residents. We see this every single day, residents of the city of minneapolis, committing to each other.

How can we recognize citizenship day this year for green card holders and people who are not yet citizens of this country? You can take that last immigration step and become a citizen, thereby securing the right to vote in this country and all the other benefits that come with citizenship, learn more about the benefits of u.s citizenship at a virtual information session.

Here, if you are already a citizen of the united states, whether born and raised here or naturalized, you can register to vote and vote early voting begins on september 18th and voter registration day is september 22nd.

Your vote has never been more important to preserving our democracy and for anyone, regardless of where you come from, or what your status is. Please make minneapolis stronger by completing the census, completing the census ensures we are represented in congress and that economic support comes to our city. The deadline to complete your census form is september, 30th, every minneapolis resident counts and we all must be counted. Learn more here.

Citizenship in this country is not and has not been accessible to everyone working to create a pathway for more residents of our city to become citizens through immigration. Reform is a worthy goal for all of us. We are grateful to the residents of the city of minneapolis.
