From YouTube: North Side Tornado Recovery Update
Description
June 3, 2011
A
Hello,
this
is
an
update
on
the
north
side,
tornado
recovery
efforts
for
the
city
of
minneapolis
for
friday
june
3rd,
I'm
gail
vang
less
than
two
weeks
after
the
tornado
touched
down.
Crews
are
making
a
lot
of
headway
on
the
cleanup.
The
city
has
removed
more
than
4
400
dump
truck
loads
of
tree
debris.
Tree
debris.
Removal
will
continue
through
june
10th.
A
After
that
date,
homeowners
can
use
the
city's
regular
yard
waste
service
to
get
rid
of
branches
and
other
small
storm
debris.
The
storm
affected
traffic
lights
at
21
intersections
on
the
north
side.
Now
all
but
four
are
operating
on
behalf
of
the
city,
the
local
housing
organization.
Urban
homeworks
has
mobilized
more
than
3
000
volunteers
and
the
initial
cleanup
of
more
than
3
500
homes.
The
shelter
set
up
by
the
red
cross
for
families
affected
by
the
tornado
has
hosted
more
than
600
overnight
stays.
A
The
red
cross
has
had
more
than
300
responders
on
the
ground
and
have
distributed
more
than
60
000
snacks
and
meals
and
speaking
of
volunteers.
Around
2000
people
will
be
taking
part
in
tomorrow's
volunteer
cleanup
day,
they'll
be
going
through
neighborhoods
on
the
north
side.
Collecting
debris
they'll
stack
tree
debris
along
boulevards
for
city
crews.
To
pick
up
from
now
until
june,
10th
volunteers
will
not
go
into
anyone's
property
without
the
permission
of
homeowners.
A
So
if
you
want
help
from
volunteers,
make
sure
you
are
home
during
the
collection
hours
from
9
a.m
to
5
p.m.
Tomorrow,
the
volunteer
effort
should
make
a
big
difference,
but
there
is
a
great
deal
to
do
so.
There
will
be
more
cleanup
needed
after
this
weekend.
Volunteers
will
try
to
collect
as
much
debris
as
possible
tomorrow.
A
Whatever
is
left
is
up
to
the
property
owner
and
the
city
will
work
with
neighborhood
organizations
and
other
non-profits
to
keep
helping
excel.
Energy
has
restored
power
to
the
entire
north
side.
However,
some
places
do
not
have
electricity,
that's
because
lines
from
the
utility
poles
to
the
homes
are
down
or
there's
damage
to
homes,
preventing
power
connections
from
being
made.
It's
up
to
the
homeowner.
To
get
that
reconnection
done.
The
city
has
been
working
with
exile
and
local
electrical
contractors
to
help
get
these
lines
connected.
A
A
Although
one
of
the
city's
two
water
plants
suffered
some
damage,
it
didn't
affect
the
city's
water
supply
or
the
city's
ability
to
make
tap
water.
Our
tap
water
is
tested
around
500
times
a
day
to
make
sure
it's
safe
for
more
information
on
north
side,
storm
recovery
efforts
go
to
the
city
of
minneapolis
website.
