North Side Tornado Recovery Update
Description
June 15, 2011
A
Hello, this is an update on the northside tornado recovery efforts for the city of minneapolis for wednesday june 15th, I'm gao vang.
A
This week the city was told that the federal emergency management agency denied minnesota's requests for individual assistance to homeowners, renters and businesses affected by last month's tornado fema concluded that the storm damage is not beyond what the state local governments and voluntary agencies could handle.
A
The state is now looking at all options and has 30 days to appeal.
Fema's decision and city officials are trying to find other sources of funding assistance at the federal and state level to help folks affected by the tornado.
A
Meanwhile, the city is working with neighborhood groups on the north side to organize clean sweeps to help get rid of the storm debris.
Two clean sweeps are planned one for this saturday and one for the following saturday.
We need 200 volunteers for each clean sweep.
A
Volunteers must be 18 or older, be able to lift 40 pounds and willing to commit to a four-hour shift to sign up call the city's neighborhood and community relations department at 612-673.
A
There are clean sweeps scheduled for june 18th and june 25th, with volunteer shifts from 8, am to noon and noon to 4 pm and a reminder.
A
Folks in the storm damaged neighborhoods with large tree debris, can stagger on boulevards in front of their homes and then call 311 to arrange a pickup for smaller tree debris, use the regular yard waste collection service.
A
That's for tree limbs, less than three inches in diameter, cut in sections less than three feet in length and bundled in bunches, no more than forty pounds each for the latest information on the north side.
Recovery just go to the city's website.
