From YouTube: North Side Tornado Recovery Update
Description
June 8, 2011
A
A
This
week,
president
obama
declared
a
major
federal
disaster
for
public
assistance
for
hennepin
and
anoka
counties
following
last
month's
deadly
tornado.
The
declaration
provides
federal
funds
for
emergency
work
and
repair
or
replacement
of
public
facilities
damaged
in
the
storm.
It's
important
to
note
that
governor
dain's
request
for
individual
assistance
is
still
under
review
by
the
white
house.
We
will
have
more
information
on
the
next
steps
regarding
this
disaster
declaration
for
public
assistance
when
it
becomes
available,
appraisers
are
out
in
north
side
neighborhoods,
assessing
the
tornado,
damage
to
homes
and
buildings.
A
If
there's
damage
to
a
property,
the
assessor
will
be
recalculating
that
property's
value
for
2012
using
the
properties,
as
is
value
with
damage.
This
will
result
in
a
lower
property
tax
for
the
2012
tax
year.
In
cases
where
properties
have
damage
of
more
than
50
percent
property
owners
are
eligible
for
a
reduction
on
their
2011
property
taxes,
plus
a
credit
towards
their
2012
property
taxes.
If
the
property
is
homesteaded,
the
application
for
the
reductions
will
be
handled
by
the
city.
A
A
If
they
have
not
yet
paid
their
2011
taxes,
the
county
will
send
them
the
revised
property
tax
amounts
later
this
year.
Renters
are
also
dealing
with
damage
to
their
homes.
The
first
step
to
getting
that
damage
repaired
is
to
contact
the
landlord
if
your
landlord
is
not
being
responsive
or
if
you
have
concerns
about
contacting
your
landlord.
The
next
step
for
you
is
to
call
3-1-1
for
help
and
damage
to
homes
and
buildings
may
need
construction
permits
from
the
city.
A
A
After
friday,
city
officials
will
reassess
whether
the
temporary
office
will
need
to
stay
open
for
north
side
residents
and
before
hiring
anyone
to
do
repairs
to
your
home,
make
sure
they're
licensed
contractors
for
the
latest
information
on
the
north
side.
Recovery
efforts
just
go
to
the
city's
website.
