Mayor Jacob Frey will join City and Downtown leaders to discuss the City’s preparedness plans for the coming weekend. Between the Taylor Swift concerts and the Twin Cities Pride Festival, the City is excited to host hundreds of thousands of people who will visit downtown Minneapolis and is prepared to keep residents and visitors safe while they enjoy various events.
The mayor will be joined by Dr. Cedric Alexander, the City’s Community Safety Commissioner, Heather Johnston, the City’s Interim City Operations Officer, Courtney Ries, Senior Vice President of Destination, Branding, and Strategy at Meet Minneapolis, Steve Cramer, President and CEO of mpls downtown council and Downtown Improvement District, and Charlie Zelle, Chair of the Metropolitan Council.

so
I'm
going

be

bunch
of
Easter
eggs

throughout
this
speech
and
we'll,
let's
we'll,
try
and
see
how
many
song
titles
that
you
all
are
able
to
recognize
along
the
way
spoiler

I've
already
said
one
of
them
so
to
start
off
the
build
for
the
weekend.

start
off
by
sharing
that
we've
decided
to
do
a
small,
tiny,
delicate.
If
you
will

celebrate,

Minneapolis

this
coming
Friday
I'm
sure
we

many
Fearless
swifties

the

So
I
won't
go
into
too
much
detail

but
Taylor's

They

as
a
songwriter,
a

and
a

this
weekend
we're
expecting

thousands

people

downtown

tremendous
City

5K
prior

parade

heading
over
to
Loring
Park,
for

will
inevitably

exceptional

shaking

coordinated
approach
with
a
number

different
cities

entities
departments
throughout
our
city
to
make
sure
that
people
have

exceptional

Minneapolis

this

long
history
of
doing
large-scale
events
from
the
NCAA
Final
Four
to
the
Super
Bowl.

do
large
scale
events
and

them
well,

are
very
excited

welcome
more

000
people

our
city.

of
the
woods
if

weren't
for
the

of
our

Safety,

service

led

city

that

been

particular
weekend.

expected
hundreds
of
thousands
of
people
to
come
into
the
City
of
Minneapolis
to
have
a
great
deal
of
fun.

is
huge
for
the
city
post
a
pandemic,
and
we
understand
the
importance
of
it,
because
we
want
people
to
come
into
this
city
and
enjoy
themselves
and
have
a
great
time
from
the
Taylor
Swift
concert
to
the
pride
festival
to
shows
downtown
and
so
much
more.
This
is
a
thriving
Metropolitan
Community
in
which
we
all
know
and
love,
and
it's
important
to
us
that
we
have
a
great
weekend
here.

over
the
last

the

of
community
safety
and
our

all

five
platforms
actually
have
been
working
very
closely
together,
communicating
in
terms
of
what
efforts

assets

resources

need
to
have

play

weekend

this
morning,
a
few
moments
ago,

was
up
on
a
zoom
with
over
50
of
our
law
enforcement
Partners
throughout
the
region,
certainly
those
local
local,
police
and
and
our
Sheriff's
Office,
our
state
partners
and
our
federal
Partners,
but
regionally.

had
other
agencies
that
were
up
one
Deck
with
us,
as
we
shared
our
plans
for
the
weekend
and
they're
in
full
support
of
us
and
we're
just
as
much
as
we're
in
full
support
of
them.
While
this
is
not
the
first
major
event
to
take
place
in
Minneapolis,
the
level
of
coordination
and
collaboration
among
our
partners
this
weekend
is
unprecedented.

will
be
key,
First
Responders
if
people
have
health
situations
that
may
come
about
mobile
units
also
have
been
put
on
alert
and
and
you're
going
to
see
a
strong
presence
of
a
number
of
our
First
Responders
throughout

course

the
weekend
downtown
and
in
around
the
area.
We
have
also
been
in
contact
in
communication
with
our
downtown
partners
and
Community
leaders.

major
Business
Leaders
throughout
this
community
that
up
on
the
zoom
with
us,
informing
them
of
this
weekend
and
letting
them
know
and
being
is
very
transparent,
as
we
can
about
how
we're
doing

we're
going
to
be
doing
over
the
course
of
the
weekend,
and
we
did
the
same
thing
with
over
30
of
our
community
leaders
that
were
up
on
another
phone

parking
plans

safe

positive
experience
downtown
this
weekend,

As

know,
safety
encompasses
many
services.

Office
of
Public
Service
has
been
actively
working
in
many
areas
to
ensure
a
great
experience,
efforts
include
we'll
have
to
start
with
parking.
Of
course,
there
are
eighteen
thousand
off-street
parking
spaces
managed
by
the
city,
an
additional
35
000
private
spaces
and
another
5
000
on-street
meter
parking
spaces
downtown
with
the
Twins
playing
Road
games.
This
weekend,
the
ABC
ramps
in
the
warehouse
District
should
have
plenty
of
available
parking.
Drivers
can
reserve
their
spaces
in
advance
for
City
parking
or
privately
owned
parking
using
apps
on
your
phone
street
closures.

Drivers
heading
into
downtown
should
be
aware
of
street
closures
for
the
biggest
events
for
the
concerts
at
U.S.
Bank
Stadium,
4th
Street
between
Park
Avenue
and
Norma
group
place
will
close
from

hour
after
the
concert
ends
similar

we
have

Vikings

that
there
are

trips
scheduled

depart
Downtown
Minneapolis

midnight

just
after
1am.
That's
just
an
hour
at
critical
time
with
bus
schedules
alone.
So
we're
going
to
use
all

available
resources

scheduled
service.

into

community

at
the
time
there
was
only

on
the
staff
who
struggling

keep
up
kind

change

we

services

these
concerts

you

this

Logistically.

Well,
it's
a
great
question:
how
do
we
make
it
logistically?
Work
is
actually
always
our
plan
to
provide
extra
service
at
the
end
of
the
concert.
I
think
the
miscommunication
or
misunderstanding
is
that
our
last
formal
schedule
is
at
11
30,
but
we
are
using
our
existing
staff
with
on
an
overtime
basis,
which
is
additional
resources
for
them
to
stay
later
or
come
in
and
work
on
the
weekends.

So
we
now
have
greater
confidence
that
we
have
an
interest
in
our
operators
providing
that
service,
and
we
know
we'll
have
not
only
extra
train
sets
but
also
Reserve
buses
in
case
they're
needed.
So
we
are
certainly
always
in
in
that
it
is
actually
our
best
practice.
It's
not
alternative,
it
is
what
we've
done
on
the
Super
Bowl
we've
done.
In
other
events,
we
do
have
Vikings
games,
we
provide
extra
trains
to
provide
the
The
Surge
at
the
end
of
an
event.
So
in
a
way
it
is
what
we've
always
done.
