From YouTube: From City Hall - Ward 6
Description
Ward 6 Councilwoman Meg Salyer welcomes Michael Whittington, the new president and CEO of the Oklahoma City Museum of Art.
A
Hello,
I'm
Meg
Salyer
and
I'd
like
to
welcome
you
to
the
ward
6
council
show
today.
I
am
joined
by
one
of
Oklahoma
City's
newest,
exciting
citizens.
We're
just
delighted
to
have
Michael
Whittington
here
with
us
today.
Michael
is
the
president
and
CEO
of
Oklahoma
City
Museum
of
Art
Michael
welcome
to
Oklahoma
City
and,
to
begin
with,
please
tell
our
viewers,
where
you
came
from
and
how
you
landed
in
this
wonderful
community.
Well,.
B
A
A
B
B
A
B
So
it's
only
going
to
get
better
you
and
as
I
envisioned
and
within
five
years,
I
will
be
able
to
leave
the
museum
at
the
end
of
the
day.
Walk
pick
up.
My
dry
cleaning
stop
go
to
the
drugstore
and
also
shop
for
groceries
on
the
on
the
way
home,
and
so
that's
going
to
happen.
It's
bound
to
happen
because
the
density
of
residential
use
of
downtown
is
increasing
it
at
such
an
exponential
rate
and
and
the
demand
for
those
services
is
already
there
exactly.
A
B
The
big
surprise
I
mean
I
was,
I
was
prepared
for
what
a
smart
place
this
is
and-
and
I
was
prepared
for
the
dynamic
life
here
based
on
the
corporate
sector,
that
provides
the
energy
that
provides
the
driver
for
everything,
that's
so
positive
and
so
wonderful
in
this
community.
What
I
was
not
surprised?
What
I?
What
surprised
me
the
most
and
I
was
not
prepared
for
was
what
a
help
place.
This
is
Wow.
A
B
It's
incredibly
cool
and
I
was
at
I,
go
to
gallery
openings
and
arts
events
every
week
and
some
of
the
things
that
I've
experiences
that
I've
experienced
since
I've
been
here
I
would
place
you
know
in
la
Chicago
or
New
York,
and
there
are
there's
a
lot
of
creative
energy
here
and
that's
our
that's
our
capital
for
the
future.
It's.
A
B
B
A
B
A
B
A
B
But
you
know:
I
worked
in
that
field
for
a
number
of
years
and
it
was
very
rewarding
I
did
some
I
would
like
to
thank
some
fairly
significant
exhibitions.
The
last
big
project,
I
did
was
a
huge
international
exhibition
for
the
mint
museum
in
Charlotte
North
Carolina,
where
I
worked.
Even
something
remarkable
happened
to
me
during
the
course
of
that
exhibition.
B
What
I
realized
was
I
was
getting
more
satisfaction,
not
from
the
research
and
writing
and
the
scholarship,
but
from
the
project
development
from
the
marketing
from
the
fundraising
from
negotiating
the
contracts,
and
it
was
at
that
point.
I
thought.
Okay,
you
need
to
make
the
leap
and
just
become
the
leader
of
the
organization
to
put
this
model
into
an
institutional
package
and
about
that
time
I
received
a
call
from
a
search
firm.
They
were
trying
to
find
an
executive
for
the
Monterey
Museum
of
Art
in
Monterey,
California
and
so
I
went.
B
There
stayed
there
for
eight
years
and
really
worked
on
a
number
of
significant
things,
such
as
focusing
the
collection
building,
the
membership
base,
increasing
attendance
really
looking
at
the
marketing
and
Merchandising
of
the
museum
and
trying
to
create
public
awareness,
not
only
in
that
community,
but
in
the
region
and
across
the
nation.
I'm.
B
You
know
one
of
the
things
that
that
attracted
me
to
Oklahoma
City,
not
only
the
city
itself,
but
also
the
position
of
the
museum
within
this
community,
which
is
significant.
This
museum
is
cherished
it's
greatly
beloved,
there's
a
tradition
of
doing
extraordinarily
ambitious
and
large
large
exhibitions.
Here
we.
B
A
B
It
it
was
in
2012,
that's
correct,
the
10th
anniversary
and
for
so
many
people
in
this
community
that
that
does
mark
the
museum
as
it
as
an
organization.
Of
course,
we
were
at
the
fairgrounds
for
a
number
of
years
prior
to
that
and
then
had
various
locations
throughout
the
city
prior
to
that.
So
our
roots
stretch
back
for
many
many
decades,
but
in
most
people's
mind
we
are
a
downtown
institution
right.
A
B
Heaven
and
earth
500
years
of
Italian
paintings
from
Glasgow
museums,
consortium
of
museums
in
glasgow,
scotland,
and
these
paintings
most
of
them
were
collected
in
the
19th
century
by
glasgow.
Industrialists
who
is
interested
in
italian
art,
and
so
the
exhibition
stretches
from
the
14th
century
through
the
19th
century.
These
works
of
art
have
never
left
the
museums
Bosco
and
the
Oklahoma
City
Museum
of
Art
will
be
the
first
stop
on
a
nationwide
tour.
Oh
my.
A
You
know,
I
think
we
talked
the
other
day
a
little
bit
about
how
we're
becoming
this
incredible
cultural
hub,
reaching
up
to
Bentonville,
with
crystal
bridges
and
and
down
through
the
area
we're
not
just
drawing
folks
from
all
77
counties
which
I
know
we
do,
but
we're
reaching
people
from
Dallas
and
Houston
and
Kansas
City
and
all
around
the
region.
Well,.
B
We
have
visitors
from
all
50
states
on
an
annual
basis
and
in
about
19
foreign
countries,
we'd
like
to
increase
that,
of
course,
too
many
more
foreign
countries.
But
to
have
that
kind
of
visitor
pattern
here
in
Oklahoma.
City
is,
it
is
tremendous
and
we
are
well
aware
of
our
nation
wide
reach.
Although
you
know
our
mission
is
to
serve
the
people
of
this
community
first
and
foremost,
but
our
reach
and
our
ambition
is
much
larger
and
and.
A
B
Do
one
of
the
most
distinguished
film
programs
in
the
country
you
know
is
mega
Jorah
where
our
building
incorporated
a
1940s
movie
palace
that
we
have
restored,
and
so
that
is
the
heart
and
soul
of
our
film
program
and
we
screen
movies,
first-run
films,
foreign
films,
independent
films,
Thursday
through
Sunday.
I'm.
A
A
Enhance
the
quality
of
filmmaking,
but
you
also
offer
classes
you
offer
classes
for
young
folks,
you
offer
classes
for
adults.
If
somebody
wanted
to
get
involved
with
the
museum.
I
know
you
know
we
are
a
non-profit
and
always
fundraising.
So
it's
important
to
tell
people
how
they
can
get
connected.
Well,.
B
The
best
way
is
to
become
a
member
of
the
museum.
You
can
join
online
by
going
to
okc
MOA
com.
You
can
be
a
member
and
join
that
is
the
best
way
because
you
then
become
part
of
our
museum
family
and
you
get
invited
to
museum
events.
You'll
get
notification
of
when
things
are
happening,
and
so
that
is
the
best
way
to
become
involved.
You
also
get
a
free
admission
with
your
membership,
but
you
also
get
the
wonderful
feeling
of
supporting
one
of
the
premier
cultural
organizations
in
our
region.
B
You
can
also
go
to
our
website
and
sign
up
for
our
weekly
email
blasts
and
also
for
our
rooftop
terrace
alert.
You
know.
Maybe
we
have
one
of
the
great
thursday
evening,
events
in
this
community
from
5
to
10.
We
have
art
after
five,
so
you
pay
five
dollars.
That
gets
you
admission
to
the
entire
museum,
including
our
rooftop.
Here.
A
I
hear
the
music
laughing
above.
Yes,.
B
B
A
A
About
the
upcoming
things,
but
we're
so
delighted
to
welcome
you
to
oklahoma
city,
you
carry
this
wonderful
tradition
from
carolyn
hill,
but
bringing
already
a
new
focus
and
new
life.
And
so
we
thank
you
for
for
coming
doke
lahoma
city
and
for
sharing
your
skills
with
us
and
look
forward
to
working
with
you.
Thank.
