Description
Oklahoma City has been selected as one of the first 50 cities to participate in the nationwide movement of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s leadership of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Outside initiative to engage the next generation of outdoor stewards and inspire millions of young adults to play, learn, serve and work in the great outdoors.

B
You
know
today,
so
many
young
people
are
glued
to
their
electronics
and
I
can
say
that
you
know
I,
sometimes
them
as
well
and
having
the
chance
to
get
people
outside
and
by
with
our
community
involved
in
parks
and
recreation
departments,
thinks
something
that's
extremely
important
now.
The
reason
it
let's
move
outside
campaign
is
so
important
is
that
it
helps
kids,
enjoy
and
appreciate
the
outdoors.
The.
A
Lie
is
very
proud
to
be
involved
with
this
initiative
and
the
Department
of
Interior
and
an
effort
to
get
kids
outdoors
and
more
active,
playing
and
working.
We're
excited
to
be
working
with
the
mayor
in
the
city
of
Oklahoma
City,
with
local
nonprofit
partners
and
the
Department
of
the
Interior
to
convene
a
community-based
summit
going
to
get
a
private
public
and
nonprofit
partners
with
expertise
in
conservation,
recreation,
stewardship
and
education
to
grow
participation
and
opportunities
to
experience
and
care
for
our
public
lands.
So.
C
Let's
talk
a
little
bit
about
what
the
really
important
stuff
is,
what
does
this
actually
mean
for
Oklahoma
City,
and
what
it
means
is
really
because
of
the
strong
commitment
that
the
wide
at
the
mayor
that
the
youth
of
the
city
has
shown
is
American.
Express
corporation
is
providing
assistance
for
two
years
to
help
the
YMCA
provide
coordination,
strategic
development
around
outdoor
recreation
and,
in
addition,
the
Department
of
Interior
is
also
supporting
an
AmeriCorps
volunteer
as
well
to
help
support
these
efforts.
C
D
Is
good
to
be
here
to
celebrate
outdoor
activities,
especially
excited
today,
to
share
this
information
that
comes
from
the
White
House
and
secretary
Jewell
in
Washington
DC,
but
they're
recognizing
what
the
citizens
of
Oklahoma
City
are
doing,
but
we're
not
only
investing
in
the
capital
projects
necessary
to
keep
our
parks
going,
but
we're
also
getting
out
we're
getting
active.
Our
health
metrics
are
starting
to
improve.
D
We
basically
have
place
health
on
a
much
higher
priority
than
we
used
to
this
particular
award
comes
with
programming
dollars,
which
will
allow
us
again
to
get
our
young
people
more
engaged
and
more
active.
We
have
learned
one
thing
throughout
the
United
States.
If
you
don't
give
some
a
kid
something
productive
to
do.
He'll
do
something
else,
that's
probably
less
than
productive
and
I
think
these
dollars
will
be
spent
wisely
and
efficiently
with
the
YMCA,
as
serving
as
its
catalyst.
