From YouTube: MAPS for Kids Showcase - Prairie Queen Elementary
Description
OKC Public Schools and The City of Oklahoma City have teamed up to bring you updates on all the improvements being made under the MAPS for Kids program.
This edition features Prairie Queen Elementary.
A
Welcome
to
the
maps
for
kids
showcase,
I'm
your
host,
tierney
tennant,
the
city
of
oklahoma
city,
is
more
than
10
years
into
the
maps
for
kids
plan,
which
was
developed
and
approved
by
you,
oklahoma
city
residents,
to
improve
education
in
oklahoma
city
and
the
surrounding
areas
on
today's
show
we're
going
to
take
you
inside
prairie,
queen
elementary
school
in
south
oklahoma
city.
The
school
is
home
to
the
schooners
and
serves
students
in
grades
pre-k
through
6th.
A
This
school
has
strong
community
support
and
dedicated
teachers
who
work
together
to
meet
the
needs
of
the
850
students
who
walk
the
halls,
and
on
today's
show
we
have
a
special
guest,
a
student
at
prairie,
queen
elementary
school
okay.
Well,
I'm
so
glad
we
that
you
stopped
by
for
our
maps
for
kids
showcase
today,
you're
the
first
kid
we've
had
on
the
show.
Do
you
know
that
you
do
well
when
you
want
to
tell
the
people
what
your
name
is
and
what
grade
you're
in
I'm.
B
B
A
A
B
A
B
B
And
number
two
on
fridays:
you
have
to
bring
money
and
you
have
to
wear
a
porcu
jacket.
If
you
want
extra
popcorn.
A
B
I
I
like
it
because
it's
two
boys
like
me,
but
sometimes
they
bother
me
a
lot.
Oh.
A
A
B
A
A
C
We
actually
finished
march
of
2013.
wow,
yes,
and
we
went
through
various
phases
before
we
completed
the
project,
but
we
still
have
another
part
to
go
and
that's
getting
our
new
gem.
I
know
which.
C
A
C
C
Oh,
it's
just
amazing,
because
they're
able
to
come
out
of
the
classroom
and
the
teachers
can
enhance
the
lesson
where
they
go
in
and
it's
interactive
with
the
technology.
We
have
various
programs
that
are
online
and
so
they're
able
to
go
and
work
on
that.
A
C
C
Yes,
before
people
would
get
confused
on
which
was
really
the
entrance.
C
Exactly
now,
it's
no
question.
It
is
so
inviting
it's.
It's
also
safe,
where
we
have
a
nice
four-year
that
children
and
parents
can
come
in,
but
they
have
to
go
directly
into
the
office
and
the
main
part
of
the
building
is
actually
secured
from
that
four
year
and
people
have
to
go
through
the
office
or
we
buzz
someone
into
the
main
part
of
the
building.
So
that's
another
thing
that
helped
by
getting
that
new
front
entrance
to
the
school.
It
looks
great,
oh,
I
know:
do
you
not
like
how
it.
A
C
I
actually
had
my
office
in
the
old
park
that
was
the
color
okay,
and
so
when
the
arcutex
came
through,
he
said.
Oh,
my
gosh,
I
like
the
color,
he
said.
Could
we
do
this
throughout,
and
I
said
that
is
the
whole
plan.
This
is
what
I
want.
I
want
the
creams
and
the
rust
and
the
chocolates
making
it
nice
and
then
also
we
are
schooners,
so
we
were
trying
to
figure
out.
How
do
we
go
in
and
put
our
mascot
out
there?
So
we
did
a
wagon
wheel.
B
C
A
C
C
C
B
C
Help
us
that
understand
the
issues
that
come
with
poverty
and
our
main
thing
is
to
make
them
feel
like
you
know
what
it
doesn't
matter,
because
when
I
walk
into
this
school,
my
school
looks
as
beautiful.
We
got
a
nice
million
dollar
school
and
it
looks
wonderful,
but
those
are
some
of
the
challenges
and
you
know
being
homeless.
C
A
C
A
A
A
To
a
teacher,
but
first
we
want
to
welcome
robin
obert
macturo
to
the
district.
As
the
new
district
chef.
She
is
in
charge
of
creating
healthy
school
meal
plans
for
the
more
than
40
000
students
in
the
district
now
prior
to
joining
to
okcps.
She
served
as
the
executive
chef
for
governor
mary
fallin,
so
welcome
to
the
team
chef
robin
and
we'll
be
right
back.
A
These
are
students
who
have
passed
all
seven
of
the
required
end
of
instruction
exams
and
all
116
seniors
are
recognized
at
a
recent
assembly,
so
wonderful
job
to
the
students,
we're
very
proud
of
you
and
we're
joined
now
by
colleen
stark,
a
second
grade
teacher
at
prairie,
queen
elementary
school,
and
I
just
have
to
say
I
love
the
fact
that
you
brought
notes
and
they're
all
laid
out
in
just
a
special
way,
because
you
said
you
don't
want
to
forget
anything,
wonderful
to
say
about
your
kids.
I.
A
D
In
what
way,
I
think
it's
like
when
we
dress
for
success,
oh
good
point,
and
I
and
at
our
school
everything
is
so
new
and
I,
the
kids,
are
proud
of
it.
You
see
something
on
the
floor
and
you'll
see
a
child
without
having
to
ask
them
to
pick
it
up.
They're,
gonna,
they're,
picking
up
because
they're
proud
of
their
surroundings.
Those.
A
D
D
D
A
D
Well,
today
I
was,
I
was
actually
thinking
about
that
and
I
saw
a
couple
little
kindergartners
coming
down
the
hall
and
both
of
them
looked
up
at
me
and
they
had
great
big,
huge
grins
on
their
face
and
they're
like
hello,
miss
dark-
and
I
thought
this
is
our
typical
student,
this
eager
to
learn
at
school,
with
smiles
on
their
faces.
Well,
they're.
A
Have
great
students
and
great
teachers?
You
teach
second
grade
at
prairie,
queen
elementary
school,
and
I
know
the
state
law
requires
that
kids
must
be
on
grade
level
in
regards
to
reading
by
the
end
of
the
third
grade,
so
you're
preparing
them
for
that
third
grade,
so
tell
me
about
that
process
and
what
you
all
are
doing
in
the
classroom.
Well,.
D
First
of
all,
we
have
90-minute
blocks
of
reading
in
the
morning
and
they're
uninterrupted
we've
changed
our
pull-outs
to
where
they're
all
in
the
afternoon,
so
the
morning
is
pretty
much
reading,
and
then
we
have
small.
We
have
small
groups
so
we're
able
to
do
more
individualized
instruction.
We
have
continuous
monitoring.
So
if
we
see
that
a
child
is
struggling
in
an
area
we
can
put,
we
can
pull
that
area
and
work
in
those
those
areas
that
need
that
the
child
needs
the
extra
help
with
that's.
A
D
B
A
A
