Program Manager David Todd updated the Oklahoma City Council Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2015, on the MAPS 3 Oklahoma River Improvements whitewater rafting and kayaking channel. Massive pumps will send water rushing down the concrete channel, providing a whitewater rafting experience minutes away from downtown Oklahoma City suitable for amateurs, families and professionals.

development
at
the
Oklahoma
River
has
changed
the
landscape
of
Oklahoma
City
momentum
continues
with
maps
3,
which
includes
river
sport,
Rapids
a
world-class
whitewater
facility
that
will
anchor
the
existing
river
sport
adventures
in
the
boathouse
district.
This
construction
tour
will
highlight
the
major
features
and
layout
of
the
course
we'll
start
at
the
west.
Entrance
to
the
left
of
the
sky
trail
will
be
an
extension
of
the
sixth
street
parking
lot,
which
will
add
more
than
100
parking
spaces.

Here's
the
west
end
of
the
bottom
pool,
which
includes
a
stage
funded
by
the
rotary
club
of
Oklahoma
City.
This
area
will
host
concerts
and
events
with
the
nearby
viewing
area,
including
steps
and
terraces,
allowing
patrons
access
to
the
water's
edge
on
the
right.
The
rafting
building
structural
steel
is
complete
and
work
on
the
roof
has
begun
here.
You'll
see
the
bottom
pool,
access
ramp
and
raf
docking
area.
This
is
where
rafters
will
receive
their
equipment,
go
through
orientation
and
board.

Here
we
see
the
top
pond,
which
is
where
the
rafts
will
exit
the
conveyor
when
complete,
it
will
be
21
feet
higher
in
elevation
than
the
bottom
pool
and
will
extend
eastward
to
the
kayak
building.
The
kayak
building
extends
another
44
feet
to
its
peak,
making
it
a
prominent
feature
from
I-35.
As
we
turn
back
west,
you
see
trucks
driving
on
what
will
be
5th
Street,
which
will
eventually
connect
to
Lincoln
bulova.

Here
we
see
where
the
top
pool
will
feed
into
the
recreational
channel
on
the
right
and
the
competition
channel
on
the
left.
The
area
between
the
channels
will
be
elevated
in
landscaped
as
an
informal
seating
area
for
spectators
to
watch,
rafting
enjoy
concerts
from
rotary
point
stage
and
other
events
on
the
left.
You
can
again
see
the
main
building.
The
building
elevations
will
be
covered
in
matching
white
metal
shingles.
These
finishes
will
also
be
used
on
the
rafting
and
kayaking.
