San Bruno City Council Meeting May 14, 2013
10e. Lion Sculpture at Beckner Shelter
A
B
B
This
item
is
being
presented
this
evening
on
behalf
of
the
parks
and
rec
commission
who,
at
their
april
17
meeting
voted
unanimously
to
recommend
to
the
city
council
acceptance
of
the
masonry
lion
sculpture
from
the
san
bruno
lions
club,
greg
pierce.
The
parks
and
recreation
commissioner,
is
here
to
answer
any
questions
regarding
the
commissioner's
recommendation.
A
C
D
D
It's
a
masonry
used
very
similar
to
what
is
used
in
cemeteries
and
other
parks
departments
throughout
california,
and
it
would
be
secured
to
the
ground.
I.
D
E
Greg
can
you
expound
on
any
discussion
between
the
commissioners
at
that
meeting.
The
commissioners.
D
Accepted
the
idea
the
commissioners
were
thrilled,
that
a
service
organization
took
on
the
responsibility
of
making
the
repairs
to
beckner
shelter,
and
I
can
tell
you
that
the
lions
are
excited
at
the
possibility
of
the
city
establishing
a
facility
adoption
process
wherein
they
could
probably
adopt
beckner
shelter
and
perform
yearly
and
or
as
necessary,
repairs
to
maintain
it
in
the
condition.
It
is
now.
E
A
Michael
anything,
rico
anything
all
right.
I
have
an
issue
and
the
issue
is
this:
we
worked
very
very
hard
on
a
program
to
limit
things
like
signs
on
benches
in
the
park.
A
Trees
being
dedicated
to
people
with
plaques
worked
very
hard
for
a
number
of
years
to
do
a
sculpture
so
that
we
could
recognize
in
one
particular
location,
memorials
or
appreciation
for
different
people.
Organizations
groups,
whatever
happened
to
be
that's
number
one
number
two
is
we
already
have
a
plaque
being
dedicated
at
bechner,
shelter
and
thanking
the
alliance
group
for
doing
that
and
believe
me,
I
really
appreciate
that
you've
done
a
beautiful
job,
so
I
just
see
it
a
little
disassociation
with
a
lion.
That's
going
to
be
sitting
away
from
the
plaque.
A
If
you
will
adjacent
to
water
fountain.
What
does
it
mean
when
I
walk
up
there
and
I
went
back
back
to
shelter
and
what's
the
lion
all
about,
I,
I
just
have
a
little
problem
with
that,
because
I
think
it
sends
a
wrong
message
to
a
lot
of
people
that
have
asked
us,
as
as
council
members
to
say,
wait
a
minute.
A
You
know
my
my
husband
passed
away
and
I
really
want
to
do
some
memorial
for
him
down
at
the
park,
but
you
have
this
restriction,
and
so
I
think
it
sends
a
message
that
in
some
ways
the
lions
are
have
an
exception
here
and
that's
fine.
I
would
be
willing
to
go
with
some
type
of
a
relief
of
a
lion,
maybe
along
with
the
plaque,
so
that
people
can
associate
one
with
the
other.
So
that's
just
my
comments.
D
D
A
I
understand
that
and
believe
me.
I
really
appreciate
that,
but
once
again
here
I
am
a
member
of
the
public,
I'm
coming
up
there
for
a
picnic,
and
I
see
where
the
plaque
you
know
states
that
the
lions
have
done
all
of
this
wonderful
work.
That
they've,
you
know
perhaps
would
embellish
it.
A
That
they've
adopted
beckner
for
for
the
future
for
use
and
enjoy
enjoyment
of
the
san
bernardino
community,
and
then
I
go
over
to
get
a
drink
of
water
and
there's
a
big
line
sitting
there
and
I'm
going
what's
the
lion,
what
what's
the
ass?
Why
do
they
have
a
lion
here?
Why
do
why?
Don't
they
have
a
cat
or
a
dog
or
a
just?
I
I
just
it
just
hits
me
the
wrong
way.
That's
all
so
I
just
want
to
get
it
out
there.
Mr.
F
A
I
don't
think
closer
to
the
black
would
make
a
whole
lot
of
difference
because
it
might
be
more
awkward.
If
it's
closer
to
the
plaque,
I
mean
it
could
be
a
tripping
hazard
or
something
but,
like
I
said,
if
you
wanted
to
to
substantiate
the
fact
that
a
lion,
a
physical
lion
was
was
the
symbol
of
your
organization
and
in
fact
you
had
the
plaque
up
there,
which
could
be
in
fact
a
little
bit
larger
and
embellish
it
with
a
relief
of
alliance
head.
Something
like
that.
A
A
E
I'm
gonna
speak.
I
was
gonna,
try
and
speak
on
behalf
of
lions.
It's
all.
It
started
with
trying
to
to
to
place
a
animated
type
of
lion.
Water
fountain
at
city
park
that
was
not
well
received
by
staff
and
possibly
was
not
well
received
financially
by
the
lions
club,
and
so
this
with,
along
with
the
project
of
repairing
beckner
shelter,
there
was
hope
that
there
would
be
more
than
a
plaque.
E
So
when
you
ask
why
a
lion,
I
think
that's
going
to
be
the
the
conversation
piece
over
time-
is
that
the
lion
is
there
because
the
lions,
you
know,
have
done
a
lot
to
buckner
shelter
without
necessarily
having
the
logo
there
and
calling
it
lions,
shelter
or
lion
beckner
shelter
by
the
lions
or
something.
So
it
is
a
symbol
of
lions.
It's
not
the
official
symbol
of
lions.
E
Having
a
a
you
know,
a
statue
there
of
of
a
lion,
but
it's
there
for
a
purpose,
for
you
know
to
to
get
recognition
for
alliance
for
the
lions
club.
If
we
were
bears
there'd,
be
a
bear,
we'd
propose
a
bear,
you
know
so
yeah
I
mean
we're
not
just
trying
to
put
a
lion
out
there,
because
that
was
the
you
know.
That
was
the
sculpture
of
the
month
or
something
it's
there,
so
that
we
can,
I
guess,
not
as
clearly
or
not
as
obviously
promote
the
organization.
A
B
Talked
about
two
locations,
the
first
one,
so
if
you
can
see
right
above
on
the
left
hand,
side
of
the
shelter
there,
it
looks
like
there's
a
box
there.
That's
one
location,
we've
already
talked
about
moving
the
hose
box.
That's
there
as
the
hose
is
a
good
place
for
the
kids
to
climb
up
from
to
the
roof.
So
we
want
to
move
that
anyway,
so
it
would
be
a
good
location
to
put
the
plaque
there.
B
The
other
location
is,
in
the
far
right
hand,
corner
of
the
shelter,
so
those
were
the
two
locations
that
we
discussed
amongst
staff,
as
well
as
with
the
lions.
The
far
back
on
the
right
hand
side.
So
you
can
see
it
it's
right
by
the
pathway
and
we
thought
that
would
be
a
nice
location
because
people
walk
to
and
from
the
restroom
that
way,
as
well
as
to
the
diamond
or
on
the
pathway,
if
they're
coming
through
from
beckner
down
to
the
park,
so
that
would
be
noticeable
there.
A
Okay,
well,
you
know,
don't
get
me
wrong.
I
I
appreciate
what
you've
done
and
I
appreciate
your
organization
because
you
do
an
awful
lot
for
this
city
it
just
to
me.
If
I
was
you
know,
a
guest
of
someone
at
beckham,
shelter,
I'd
go
down
there
and
I'd,
see
the
plaque
and
then
I'd
walk
over
and
see
this
lion.
What
what
does
the
lion
mean?
Maybe
I
don't
know
just
throw
this
out.
Maybe
we
could
associate
the
plaque
and
the
lion
together.
A
F
You
know,
I
think
it
tying
it
together.
I
think
makes
sense.
F
I
think,
what's
important
too,
is
that
you
know
in
the
end
of
the
day
it's
about
people
giving
back
it's
about
a
group,
giving
the
resources
to
help
out
a
community
that
ultimately
is
asking
for
help
like
in
the
adopt
adopt-a-park
and
other
things
that
we're
embarking
upon
that
we
ask
every
day,
so
I
think
if
it
can
be
tied
together,
I
think
it
might
address
the
mayor's
concern
and
I
think
then
give
the
correlation
to
one
to
the
other.
C
Is
there
a
reason
it
can't
be
attached
to
the
front
of
the
lion
or
on
the
side
or
something
we
have
a
statue
in
front
of
the
library
or
just
adjacent
to
the
library
that
was
donated
by
carlton
corners
association,
there's,
there's
no
particular
association
between
carlton
corners
and
the
statue
itself
and
what
is
happening
with
the
statue
or
the
library
either.
It
just
says
they
serve
children,
for
you
know
over
80
years
almost,
and
that
was
it
and
the
plaque's
there.
But
people
get
to
enjoy
the
statue.
C
So
I
think
the
points
are
well
taken
and
I
I
think
that
it's
kind
of
fun
to
have
a
lion
there
and
people
can
why
not
associate
it
with
it
with
the
organization.
Even
though
it's
not
the
official
symbol,
it's
a
lion.
So
is
there
objection
to
putting
the
plaque
on
the
line
itself
on
the
base
of
the
line.
B
Yeah
there
we
would
have
to
see
if
there's
the
ability
first
to
put
it
on
the
actual
lion,
the
other
there's
other
options
we
could
get
a
rock
such
as
council
member
medina,
was
talking
about
at
posey
park
and
place
it
next
to
the
lion
with
the
plaque.
So
there
are
options,
and
I
and
I
think
that
we
can
make
something
work
where
they're
together.
F
F
It's
not
named
lions
field,
and
I
don't
know
if
the
average
person
would
know
why
it's
there
or
but
it's
attributed
and
deadly
the
park
is
dedicated
to
an
individual
who
happened
to
have
been
or
is
a
lion,
and
so,
but
I
don't
think
anybody
says
well
it's
lions
park,
so
I
think
some
of
the
discussion
that
has
been
here
will
would
help
make
that
work.
Sorry.
A
E
No,
I
I
just
I
mean
it's
it's
nice
to
have
the
plaque
in
view
on
the
structure,
because
then
that's
clear
what
the
rehabilitation
work
was
done
and
the
line
is
just.
I
mean
it's
just
an
added
thing:
it's
just
a
line,
it's
just
a
sculpture
in
the
corner
of
a
you
know,
not
even
clearly
in
view
of
the
of
the
park
it's
in
it's
over
by
the
water
fountain.
E
E
E
C
C
I
personally
don't
need
it
back.
It's
you
know
it's.
It
gets
a
little
much.
I
think
we,
you
know
we
can
beat
some
of
this
stuff
to
death
and
two
years
later,
it's
still
not
done
so.
I
personally
think
the
lion's
fun
and
you
know
if
it
associated
with
lions-
great,
if
you
guys
want
to
put
it
plaque
there.
C
If
you
want
wherever
it's
whatever
is
fine
with
me,
I
think
lion
is
fun
and
I'd
like
to
introduce
the
resolute,
a
resolution
accepting
the
donation
of
the
lion
and
and
aside
also
thanking
the
lions
and
the
their
associates
for
all
the
work
they've
done
at
beckner
shelter,
it's
fabulous.
So
that's
I'm
introducing
a
resolution
saying
that
is.
G
There's
already
been
discussion
separately
about
the
location
of
the
plaque,
so
that
your
recommendation,
your
motion
here,
is
consistent
with
the
with
the
way
the
resolution
is
written.
Okay,
that's.
H
C
A
Clarification
so
the
the
line
will
be
placed
where
the
lion
is
suggested
to
be
placed
in
the
resolution,
but
you
will
bring
back.
A
G
Not
according
to
the
motion
that
vice
mayor
o'connell,
just
proposed,
the
location
of
the
plaque
has
been
discussed
among
staff,
the
lions
and
the
parks
and
recreation
commission
and
is
not
unless
you
want
it
to
be,
is
not
part
of
the
discussion
or
the
action
that
we're
proposing
to
you
tonight.
So.
G
Correct
the
plaque
would
be
placed
according
to
those
previous
discussions,
okay
in
one
of
the
locations
that,
as
ms
brewer
previously
identified.
Okay.
Thank
you.
Okay,.
