Description
City boards and commissions were established for the purpose of advising the City Council and providing ongoing input into policies and issues affecting the future of the San José community. Learn more here: https://www.sanjoseca.gov/your-government/departments/city-clerk/boards-commissions.
A
The
first
thing
you're
going
to
do
is
go
to
the
cities.
Homepage,
that's
san,
jose,
ca.gov,
you're,
going
to
click
on
your
government
or
mouse
over
it.
I
didn't
actually
click
so
mouse
over
your
government
and
choose
city
clerk
or
boards
and
commissions
boards
and
commissions,
takes
you
straight
there.
So
I'm
going
to
go
through
city
clerk
just
so
you
can
kind
of
see
the
extra
steps
needed.
A
So
when
you
get
here,
I'm
going
to
read
a
couple
things.
The
city
boards
and
commissions
were
established
for
the
purpose
of
advising
the
city
council
and
providing
ongoing
input
into
policies
and
issues
affecting
the
future
of
the
san
jose
community.
Unless
otherwise
stated,
applicants
should
live
within
the
city
limits
of
san
jose
and
cannot
be
city.
Employees
terms
may
be
from
two
to
four
years
unless
the
vacancy
is
due
to
an
incumbent
resigning
midterm.
In
that
case,
the
appointment
is
to
the
remainder
of
the
unexpired
term.
A
Some
commissions
have
additional
membership
requirements
that
may
require
an
interview
by
the
council
appointment
advisory
commission
applications
are
accepted
year-round
when
a
deadline
is
announced.
This
is
the
last
date
we
can
guarantee.
Your
application
will
be
included
in
the
review
for
the
recruitment.
A
Applications
may
still
be
submitted
and
accepted
after
that
deadline,
but
they
may
not
be
included
in
the
current
recruitment,
but
they
also
might
be
included
in
the
current
recruitment.
I
just
can't
guarantee
it
so
as
soon
as
you
realize
you
want
to
be
in
a
border
commission
just
apply
whether
or
not
there's
a
vacancy
just
apply.
We'll
talk
more
about
that
later.
A
When
you
come
to
this
page,
there's
a
list
of
all
the
different
commissions
for
which
you
can
apply
we're
going
to
stick
with
council
appointment
advisory
commission
because
they're,
one
of
my
commissions
most
of
the
commissions,
but
not
all
of
them,
have
11
members.
This
means
they're
nominated
by
all
of
the
council.
Members,
including
the
mayor,
so
when
you,
when
you
click
on
the
member
roster
you'll,
see
district
4
seat
district
10,
district,
6,
district,
3
and
you'll
see
it
for
all
the
different
districts.
We
have
four
vacancies.
A
You
can
see
we're
missing
a
few
here.
So
in
this
case,
if
you
are
a
person
who
lives
in
district
nine,
but
you
see
oh
there's
already
a
person
for
district
nine,
so
I
guess
I
can't
deploy.
That's
not
true,
go
ahead
and
apply
because
a
council
member's
not
restricted
to
appointing
just
from
their
district.
They
can
appoint
somebody
from
another
district
and
then
the
mayor
also
has
an
appointment.
So
you'll
see,
there's
a
city-wide
seat.
A
A
You
can
click
both
that
way.
You
only
have
to
fill
out
one
application
for
all
the
different
commissions
that
you're
interested
in
there
will
be
additional
questions
for
some
of
them
that
are
not
on
others.
For
example,
human
services.
Commission.
There
are
special
eligibility
suites
seats,
so
you
would
go
to
those
questions,
but
generally
you're
going
to
just
go
one.
Are
you
arrested
in
the
city
of
san
jose
length
of
residency?
What
district
do
you
live
in?
A
So,
although
we
do
verify
this
we're
at,
we
ask
you:
if
you
don't
know
what
districts
you
live
in
to
click
this
link,
it
will
take
you
to
the
rov's
website.
You
enter
in
your
address
and
it
tells
you
what
district
you're
in.
I
do
encourage
you
to
do
that,
because,
even
if
you
think
you
know
your
district,
you
might
be
in
a
county
pocket
and
not
realize
it,
and
this
would
let
you
know,
then
you
fill
out
your
address
phone
number.
A
A
It
will
go
to
a
conflict
of
interest
check,
so
the
attorney's
office
will
look
at
that
that
application
and
they'll
see
if
you
have
any
conflicts.
If
you
have
a
conflict,
it
does
not
mean
you
can't
be
appointed,
it
just
means.
You
may
need
to
recuse
yourself
from
some
of
the
decisions
that
the
commission's
making.
A
So
therefore,
the
council,
member
who's
making
the
appointment
needs
to
know
that
so
after
it
goes
to
conflict
of
interest,
check
that
takes
about
two
weeks,
then
it'll
go
to
the
council
office
and
the
council
office
will
get
all
of
the
applications,
not
just
the
ones
for
their
district.
That's
why
I'm
saying
if
you
see
a
vacancy
and
it's
not
in
the
district,
you
live
in,
go
ahead
and
apply
the
council
member
who
has
the
vacancy
is
going
to
get
all
of
the
applications
and
they
can
review
them
at
that
point.
A
They
may
call
you
they
may
not
call
you
they
may
email,
you
they'll,
be
something
and
then
once
they
make
the
nomination.
That
will
then
go
to
council.
It
goes
to
the
full
council
for
appointment.
A
The
full
council
will
appoint
and
then
you'll
get
my
office
will
contact
you
to
perform
your
oath
of
office.
A
So
we
do
your
oath
of
office
and
you'll
sign
a
volunteer
agreement
and
a
code
of
ethics
agreement
and
then
you'll
you'll
get
notification
from
your
your
secretary
of
your
commission
on
how
to
attend
the
meetings
currently
in
march
2021
or
our
meetings
are
all
virtual,
but
hopefully
by
summer
or
fall
we'll
be
having
in-person
meetings
again
so
again
apply
if
you,
if
you're
thinking
about
applying
just
apply,
don't
wait
for
a
deadline.
