About Dan Kohn
Dan Kohn leads the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. Dan previously served as CTO of several startups, including Spreemo, a healthcare marketplace, and Shopbeam, a shoppable ads company. Earlier, he was a general partner at Skymoon Ventures, a $70 million seed-stage venture capital firm that created startups in semiconductors and telecom infrastructure. He also helped create and launch The Linux Foundation’s Core Infrastructure Initiative.

not
be
that
familiar
with
the
cloud
native
computing
foundation.
I
think
all
of
you
are
familiar
with
kubernetes.
We
host
the
kubernetes
project
along
with
these
other
projects,
we're
a
non-profit
foundation,
we're
just
a
little
bit
more
than
a
year
old,
we're
part
of
the
Linux
Foundation,
which
is
almost
20
years
old.
Now
we
also
host
and
I
love
these
gobos
up
here.
If
you
look
at
these
beautiful
lights,
kubernetes
prometheus,
open
tracing,
fluent
D,
and
then,
when
you
come
around
here,
linker
DG,
RPC
accordion
s.

We
want
to
give
particularly
a
shout
out
to
kubernetes
many
of
you
are
developers
and
contributors
and
users
of
it
and
had
a
huge
accomplishment.
Yesterday,
shipping
1.6,
which
is
its
biggest
most
amazing
accomplishment.
Yet
kubernetes
is
one
of
the
highest
velocity
projects
in
the
history
of
open-source
of
the
54
million
projects
on
github,
depending
on
how
you
count
it's
absolutely
in
the
top
10
of
those
projects
too.

use
any
of
these
projects,
you
don't
need
to
be
a
member
of
CMC
F
to
contribute
to
any
of
these
projects,
which
is
why
we're
so
appreciative
of
our
members,
especially
our
Platinum
members,
who
contribute
at
the
highest
level
and
I'd
also
like
to
particularly
thank
Dell
EMC
who's,
just
joined
as
a
new
Platinum
Member
they're,
making
major
investments
in
cloud
storage
with
the
recs
ray
and
lip
storage
projects
we're
thrilled
to
be
working
with
them,
especially
in
our
storage
and
our
networking
working
groups.

excited

working

order

us

our
projects

move
this
community
forward.

One
other
piece
of
news
in
Seattle
six
months
ago,
at
cloud
native
con
cubed,
con
I
talked
about
a
certification
program
that
we
were
running
for
kubernetes
certified
administrator.
That
program
is
moving
forward
and
today
we're
releasing
the
beta
version
of
the
curriculum,
and
so
if
your
organization
or
company
offers
training,
we
encourage
you
to
take
a
look
at
this
curriculum
in
order
to
align
your
training
with
our
exam
and
the
curriculum
that
we're
making
available
so
that
you
can
offer
this
exam.

At
the
end
of
your
training,
we're
going
to
be
offering
the
beta
of
this
certification
in
mid-may
and
we're
hoping
that
many
of
you
and
many
of
your
companies
will
eventually
become
kubernetes
certified
administrators
later
this
summer.
So
last
month
we
were
thrilled
to
bring
in
as
I
mentioned,
our
six
in
our
seventh
projects
up
there,
G
RPC
and
core
DNS
and
I'm
now
incredibly
excited
to
announce
the
8th
project
in
CN.

Cf
is
container
D,
which
is
being
contributed
by
docker
is
the
core
upstream
component
that
is
being
used
by
millions
of
folks
as
part
of
docker.
It
is
used
in
of
Windows
and
Linux.
It
is
backed
by
five
of
biggest
cloud
companies.
We've
been
working
with
docker
and
the
community
of
that
partners
for
really
the
entire
life
of
CMC
F,
and
even
before
that
and
set
of
partnerships
and
we're
just
incredibly
excited
to
have
container
D
in
as
a
home.

And
I'm
excited
to
announce
the
9th
project
of
CNC
F,
which
is
rocket,
so
core
OS
is
contributing
rocket
to
CN
CF.
This
is
supported
by
its
another
container
runtime,
that's
supported
by
every
major
Linux
distro.
It's
been
a
huge
contributor
to
the
open
container
initiative,
OCI
container
network
interface,
CNI,
the
container
runtime
interface
CRI,
a
lot
of
acronyms
when
you
think
of
CMC,
F
and
cloud
native
in
general,
and
you
think
orchestration.

So
you'll
recall,
if
for
folks
who
are
in
Seattle
and
took
a
look
since
then
that
I
had
a
CNC,
F
landscape
project,
where
I
showed
how
different
open-source
projects
and
companies
fit
together
and
not
so
surprisingly,
we
had
missed
a
few
projects.
Then
lots
of
people
wrote
in
and
said:
hey.
You
forgot
my
project
and
so
that
chart
got
a
little
denser
since
then,
and
so
here
is
the
updated
version
which
has
gotten
smaller
and
smaller
logos.
But
I
will
mention,
there's
a

going

get

a

how
thrilled

we
sold

attendees
in
Berlin.
This
is
really
just
an
incredible
testament
to
the
excitement
around
kubernetes
and
cloud
native
computing
in
general.
It
is
just
an
amazing
thing
to
see
tripling
from
London
a
year
ago
to
to
Berlin
today
and
tell
you
about
a
couple
other
activities
we
have
coming
up.
