show
you
today,
one
of
the
most
exciting
things
to
come
in
our
local
development
world
in
some
time,
which
is
wsl
2.
The
windows
subsystem
for
linux
version
2..

So
what
we're
going
to
do
is
we're
going
to
take
a
computer
that
I
have
sadly
taken
all
of
my
normal
stuff
off
of
I
have
uninstalled
docker
and
I've
uninstalled
ddev
and
I've
tried
to
make
it
as
close
as
I
can
get
to
a
clean
system
so
that
we
can
do
an
installation
from
scratch.
So
we're
going
to
start
from
the
very
beginning
and
see
how
we
do.

Hopefully,
it's
representative
of
what
you
might
encounter
when
you
are
starting
out
doing
things
one
at
a
time.
Okay,
so,
first
of
all,
let's
talk
about
what
ddap
local
is
dwi.
Local
is
a
docker-based
local
development
environment.
It's
aimed
at
web
developers,
especially
php,
but
lots
of
javascript
and
html
and
whatever
developers
are
good
with
it.
It
has
explicit
support
for
quite
a
number
of
frameworks
and
cmss,
including
typo,
3
and
drupal,
and
laravel
and
magento
things
like
that.

Basically,
you
run
a
website
on
your
own
local
computer,
with
almost
no
configuration
of
the
computer,
we're
going
to
do
a
bit
of
work
today,
but
this
is
just
initial
setup
work
to
for
wsl
2,
mostly,
and
once
we
get
done
with
this,
everything
is
happening
inside
the
containers,
so
developers
can
run
multiple
websites
at
the
same
time,
all
with
different
configurations,
different
php
versions,
different
nginx
configurations,
different
apache
configurations,
with
no
impact
on
the
on
the
local
computer.
Composer's
not
installed
on
the
local
computer.
Php's
not
installed.
A
Nginx
is
not
installed
now,
because
docker
does
all
the
heavy
lifting
and
all
the
configuration
basically
happens
inside
the
docker
containers.
You
don't
have
even
php
or
composer
so
and
dwevlocal
has
had
first
class
windows
and
mac
os
and
linux
support
for
ages.
The
irony
of
what
we're
doing
today
is
we're
actually
setting
up
windows
to
run
linux.
A
Wsl
2
is
actually
running
linux,
so
we
will
install
using
once
we
get
wsl
2
installed,
we'll
basically
be
using
we'll
be
basically
be
using
the
linux
installation
techniques.
Okay.
So
what
is
wsl2?
As
I
said,
it's
the
windows
subsystem
for
linux
version,
two,
it's
a
real
linux
kernel
and
distributions
built
into
the
latest
version
of
windows.
It
just
came
out
this
past
spring.
It's
the
it's
called
the
spring
2004
edition
you
do
have
to
have
that
springtail,
2004
or
string
2020
or
windows,
10
2004
edition
to
run
it.

so
and
docker
said:
that's
their
path
forward
on
windows.
So,
okay,
so
there's
advantages
and
disadvantages
of
everything.
In
this
case
you
can
see
there's
more
disadvantages
on
the
right,
but
the
disadvantages
are
little
and
the
advantages
are
really
really
big,
so
don't
don't
get
thrown
off
by
the
counts.
The
advantages
linux
on
your
windows,
machine,
it's
complete!
It's
fast!
It's
capable!
A
You
see
that
number
one
on
the
disadvantages
is
the
same
thing
but
number
two,
it's
amazingly
fast
web
serving
with
dwev,
local
and
docker,
and
it's
the
future
of
docker
desktop.
So
it's
it's
going
with
the
flow
we
can
say.
The
disadvantages
are
that
it's
yet
another
different
environment
for
everybody
to
remember,
and
we
already
have
lots
and
lots
of
things
to
remember.

It's
also
got
context
switches.
If
you're
working
in
if
you're
working
in
the
windows,
world
and
you're
used
to
powershell
and
all
of
a
sudden
you're,
you
have
to
switch
back
and
forth
to
the
bash
in
the
wsl2
window,
it's
a
whole
different
space
and
it's
a
different
file
system
which
is
important.
We
inside
the
wsl2
distro.
We
need
to
use
the
file
system
inside
not
use
the
windows
file
system
which
you
can
reach,
but
you
don't
want
to
put
your
code
there
and
number
four.

My
favorite
php
storm
is
not
completely
ready
for
wsl-2.
Yet,
although
they
keep
making
strides,
there
are
a
couple
of
workarounds
and
I'll
have
a
link
on
the
last
slide
of
how
different
ways
that
you
can
run.
It
there's
two
completely
different
ways
to
run
it
and
you
may
be
happy
with
one
or
both
of
them
and
of
course
it
requires
windows,
10
2004,
which
not
every
single
person
has
yet
and
microsoft.
While
they're
working
hard
on
this
and
they've
done,
some
amazing
work.

the

I'm

using
the

what
I'm
doing,
but
what
we're

we're

the

docs

just
what
we're
doing
so,
we're
going
right
along
here
installation
or
upgrade
windows
wl2.

Microsoft
has
just
announced
that
they're
going
to
have
one,
but
I'm
going
to
open
a
administrative
powershell
here
and
I'm
just
going
to
paste
this
magic
formula
to
get
chocolaty
installed
again.
You
can
install
things
lots
of
ways
and
you
don't
have
to
install
it
this
way,
but
that's
the
way
we're
going
to
do
it
today.
Okay,
now
I'm
going
to
choco
install.

Make
sure
is
a
wonderful
tool
that
allows
you
to
create
a
it
allows
you
to
create
a
certificate
authority
so
that
your
browser
can
trust
certificates
that
are
created
by
your
local
development
server
and
that's
about
all
you
need
to
know
once
you've
got
it
installed.
Everything
just
works,
so
I'm
going
to
do
a
make
cert-install
and
it
pops
up
the
window
that
says
yeah.

You
sure
you
want
to
do
that,
because
you're
you're
saying
that
you're
going
to
trust
a
whole
new
set
of
certificates,
which
is
a
great
thing
for
local
development,
because
we
can
use
https
all
the
time
which
is
where
we're
deploying.
So
we
want
to
be
using
https
locally
and
not
clicking
through
the
ugly
little.
This
is
an
unsecure
site
click
around
okay.
There
we've
done
the
first
set
of
things
that
we're
going
to
do
now.
We
have
to
set
a
we're
going
to
set
the
a
couple
of
environment
variables
so
that
we
can.

is
the
magic
here
and
this
sets
so
when
we
get
wsl
2
installed,
it's
going
to
make
it
so
that
our
make
cert
is
trusted
there
as
well.
This
again
is
a
one-time
one-time
operation,
so
here
I'm
pasting
it
and
now
we're
gonna
enable
wsl
2,
and
when
I
do
this,
it's
going
to
reboot
and
I'm
going
to
have
to
come
back
to
where
we.

Okay,
well,
I
rebooted,
and
I
came
back
up,
and
hopefully
I
got
my
windows
set
up
correctly
again
and
we
have
enabled
wsl
2
now
that's
a
feature
in
micros
in
windows,
but
now
we
have
to
go
and
download
and
install
the
wsl2
kernel.
This
is
an
awkward
little
bit
that
happened
late
in
the
development
cycle.
For
this
version
it's
not
hard,
but
it's
awkward
and
they've
said
that
it's
not
going
to
happen
in
the
future,
but
for
right
now
we
have
to
go
and
download
the
kernel
and
install
it
separately.

You
see
the
little
whale
here
is
breathing
trying
to
get
air
and
it's.
Finally,
it's
got
air
now
so
now,
docker
desktop
is
running
and
says
we
can
do
stuff
with
it.
That
came
up
really
quite
amazingly
fast.
It
pops
up
this
window
in
like
an
introductory
tutorial
window.
You
don't
need-
and
you
don't
need
to
log
in
you-
can
see
that
I
am
logged
in,
but
you
don't
need
to
log
in
so
we're
going
to
close
that
and
now
I'm
going
to
do
it.

Wsl

and
you
see,
we
have
three
three
distros
running.
One
is
ubuntu
the
one
that
we
installed.
It's
the
default,
that's
what
the
star
means
there
and
they're
all
version.
Two
docker
desktop
and
docker
desktop
data
are
private
to
docker
and
we
don't
need
to
go
in.
There
worry
about
that.

Okay,
we've
got
docker
desktop,
running,
we've
got
our
distros
running
and
we're
ready
to
start
installing
dwf
local.
At
this
point.
So
what
we're
going
to
do
is
we're
going
to
use
we're
going
to
install
homebrew.
Homebrew
is
a
wonderful
package
manager
for
both
mac
os
and
linux,
and
it's
the
quickest
it's
the
easiest
way
to
install
dev
and
to
keep
it
up
to
date.
If
you
look
at
the
docs,
you'll
see
several
different
ways
to
do
that.

And
now
I'm
going
to
source
that
which
is
what
happens
when
we
start
the
thing
in
the
first
place
and
now
when
I,
when
so
many
things
that
you
want
to
use
you
want,
you
can't
remember
all
of
the
command
line,
arguments
that
you
have
now.
Theoretically,
if
I
type
dev
l
and
hit
tab,
then
I
see
the
the
commands
that
begin
with
l
with
l
or
if
I
hit
d
dev
and
hit
tab.
I
can
see
all
the
commands
that
are
available
to
me
and
I
just
find
that
very
addictive.

then
we're
going
to
create
a
typo3
project
and
then
we're
going
to
take
a
look
at
some
of
these
other
some
of
these
other
things,
so
we
have
dwive
installed
now
so
here
we've
done
our
homebrew
install
our
bash
completion.
Oh
by
the
way,
if
you're
running
zsh,
which
works
great,
you
can
use
gsh
completion
and
ddf
supports
those
too
and
fish.
If
you
use
fish,
it
supports
fish.

If
you
notice,
I
can
go
to
slash
mount
slash
c,
slash
users
slash,
I
think
it's
randy
on
this
machine
I
could
put.
I
could
put
my
stuff
over
on
the
c
drive
and
I
have
full
access
to
that
here.
But
if
you
do
that,
your
performance
is
terrible
and
you
wasted
your
time
with
wsl
2
in
the
first
place,
even
though
it
would
be
most
convenient
to
have
that
consolidated
file
system,
it's
not
a
consolidated
file
system
and
you
want
to
do
it
in
the
wsl2
file
system.

So
now
I
have
a
simple
php
project:
it's
just
one
file,
but
that's
what
it
is
now
I'm
going
to
do
a
ddap
config
and
the
project
name
comes
by
default
from
the
folder
name.
I
recommend
that
you
always
have
your
projects
be
the
same
as
your
folder
name,
although
you
can
do
otherwise.
The
doc
root
is
the
current
directory,
that's
where
the
index.php
is
and
it
it
support.
Ddf
supports
a
whole
bunch
of
different
project
types,
including
wordpress
and
magento,
and
drupal
and
laravel
and
backdrop
type
o3.
But
this
is
the
generic
one.

Start
and
it
failed
because
it
says
docker
isn't
running,
so
I
tell
you
what
happened
here.
This
might
happen
to
you.
So
we
had
this
wsl-2
running
before
we
got
docker
going
and
docker's
in
charge
of
putting
that
in
there.
So
let's
go
ahead
and
we
need
to
get
docker
running.
I
thought
I
would
have
demonstrated
that
along
the
way
here,
so
I'm
going
to
kill
this
window
and
I'm
going
to
run
it
again.

And
junk.dev.site
is
right:
there
waiting
for
us
see
how
fast
responsive
that
was
it
shows.
This
connection
is
secure,
we're
using
https
and
the
browser
trusts
it
and
here's
all
the
information
about
what
we're
running.
So
that's
good.

want
to
show
you
one
other
thing
that
I
skipped
we
needed
to
apt-get
install.

Okay,
there
it
is
it's
done,
and
now
with
that
done,
I
can
do
a
ddap
launch
one
of
my
favorite
things.
I
can
do
a
dwf
launch
and
it'll
just
bring
that
right
up
the
same.
Is
it's
the
same
as
copying
and
pasting
this
thing,
but
it's
it's
nice
nicer
and
it's
got
a
couple.
Other
features
too.
Did
it
launch.

Dash
m
will
get
you
the
mailhog
interface
and
mailhog
is
a
very
nice
tool
that
lets
you
see.
Lets
you
see,
emails
that
have
been
captured
because
all
emails
in
your
project
get
get
captured,
so
they
don't
don't
escape,
but
you
can
view
them
and
dwight
launch
dash
p
launches
the
phpmyadmin
interface,
which
lots
of
people
love.
There's
many
many
ways
to
work
with
databases
in
dev
and
phpmyadmin
isn't
my
favorite,
but
lots
of
people
have
used
it
and
they
like
it,
and
so
there
it
is
okay.
So
there
we
did
our
there.

first
simple
project.
We
created
an
index.php,
we
did
a
ddf
config
and
followed
the
prompts,
and
then
we
did
a
ddev
start
and
then
we
did
a
dwiv
launch
and
we
could
have
just
pasted
the
paste
of
the
url
and
be
the
same.
So
there's
our
first.
Our
first
project
we've
done
so
that
that's
how
simple
it
is
to
do
a
project,
but
now
we're
going
to
do
one.
That's
a
little
more
complex,
we're
going
to
do
a
typo3
project
and
we're
going
to
configure
it
with
flags.

here
it

all
of
the
back
end

three

It's
all
working,
it's

snappy
and
it's

good
thing,

probably
check
out
the

install

you'll

grab

an
upstream
