Description
Fargo Public Schools - Board of Education Meeting - Live Broadcast - April 12, 2016
A
We'll
call
this
meeting
to
order.
Thank
you
very
much.
I
would
entertain
a
motion
for
approval
of
the
agenda
with
the
hr
addendum.
B
C
A
The
motion
was
to
include
the
addendum
on
the
consent
agenda
and
also.
C
C
C
E
When
it
comes
to
the
consent
agenda,
any
member
can
automatically
set
anything
aside
for
direct
discussion
aside
from
the
vote
of
the
consent
agenda
as
a
whole.
So
when
we
get
to
consensus,
you
can
just
simply
say
before
a
vote.
I
request
this
be
set
aside
for
a
separate
discussion
without
voting
without
any
emotions
or
anything.
Okay,.
A
A
A
Paul
already
seconded
it
actually
all
in
favor,
say
aye
aye
all
opposed
same
sign.
We
have
an
agenda,
ladies
and
gentlemen.
Thank
you.
Then
we
get
to
probably
everybody's
favorite
part
of
the
meeting,
which
is
a
student
presentation.
So,
dr
gross,
if
you
would
do
the
honors
yes.
G
Thank
you
very
much
as
you
can
see
on
our
agenda
tonight.
This
is
our
strategic
plan
in
action
celebrating
success
report
tonight.
What
we
have
is
a
a
series
of
some
of
our
staff
members
and
some
of
our
students
in
the
area
of
social
studies
and
they're,
going
to
share
with
you
how
they
have
taken
social
studies
embedded
the
21st
century
skills
and
then
shares
some
of
the
successes
in
our
district
and
I'd
like
to
introduce
kathy
fisher.
G
H
Hi,
you
know
what
I'm
excited
to
be
here
and
I'm
excited
to
be
here,
because
I
can't
wait
to
take
this
opportunity
to
showcase
social
studies,
vision,
a
new
vision,
okay,
the
other
thing
I
want
to
do-
and
I
say
with
great
sincerity-
is
I
want
to
thank
the
leadership,
the
district
leadership
and
health.
They
are
guiders,
they
are
empowered
and
and
we
need
them
and
they're
part
of
our
team.
H
So
my
friends,
you've
got
your
very
own
kit
right
in
front
of
you,
go
ahead
and
grab
that
kit
and
that's
what
we
call
the
social
studies,
vision,
kit
and
notice.
There's
your
kit
and
it's
about
a
vision
and
there's
no
eyeglasses
in
it.
Why
is
that?
Well
I'll,
tell
you
why
when
we
sat
around
as
social
studies
teachers,
we
had
to
take
a
hard
look
at
ourselves
and
we
had
to
say
we're
not
correcting
our
old
vision.
H
That's
because,
when
we
sat
around,
we
looked
at
what's
the
big
ideas
that
transfer
from
our
course
to
other
courses
to
their
personal
lives
and
to
their
future,
the
third
one,
the
second
one
math,
not
so
much
the
second
one
that
you
see
in
there
nervous.
My
friends
that
you
see
in
there
is
the
magnifying
glass
and
in
the
magnifying
glass.
H
I
want
you
to
know
in
every
one
of
our
courses,
we
have
focused
on
the
standards,
the
21st
century
skills
and
the
literacy
skills,
and
you
know
what
not
only
have
teachers
focusing
on
those,
but
the
students
are
too.
They
are
clear
vision
of
what
the
expectation
is
in
that
class,
the
third
one.
Third,
the
one
that
you
see
right.
There
is
the
compass
we
walk
together.
H
I
Good
evening
I
am
kathy
magnus
and
I
teach
eighth
grade
history
at
carl
ben
nielsen
and
with
me
I
have
christy
torgeson
and
michaela
doctor
and
one
of
the
things
that
we
have
been
working
on
this
year
as
we
take
out
and
look
at
the
big
ideas
and
incorporate
the
other
stuff
in.
As
you
look
at
the
screen,
we
have
been
starting
our
lessons
with
skills,
and
this
is
an
example
of
one
of
them.
J
J
J
I
K
I
The
students
answer
the
questions
in
class.
It
leads
to
discussion
of
what
we're
doing
and
then
it
provides
an
interest
for
them
to
move
on.
We
use
a
lot
of
political
cartoons,
drawings,
graphs,
charts
maps,
all
of
those
things
that
we
weren't
using
in
the
past
and
so
now
when
they
want
to
read
this
makes
them
want
to
read
more
about
john
brown
and
what
he
does.
L
L
Right
here
we
have
the
poster
that
we
worked
on.
We
have
different
images
from
the
war,
some
silhouettes
of
soldiers.
You
can
also
see
a
picture
of
europe
up
in
the
corner
of
before
the
of
what
it
looked
like
before
the
war
actually
happened.
N
Hi,
I'm
michelle
and
I
go
to
davies
high
school
and
I'm
in
11th
grade
and
I
think,
as
a
student,
it's
important
to
not
feel
overwhelmed
by
stuff
like
memorization
and
things
like
that,
and
I
think
that's
really
helped
me
in
this
class.
Is
we
don't
just
memorize
and
do
stuff
where
we
feel
overwhelmed?
N
We
do
skills
which
help
us
learn
and
it
makes
it
fun
to
learn,
because
you
don't
want
to
walk
into
a
classroom
where
you
feel
overwhelmed.
You
don't
feel
like
you
want
to
be
there
because
you
don't
want
to
learn,
but
we
want
to
learn
every
day
when
we
walk
in
and
a
lot
of
the
skills
we've
used
have
just
been
skills
that
have
helped
me
in
all
my
other
classes
as
well.
O
Hi,
my
name
is
alexis
vinette,
I'm
from
fargo
north
high
school
and
I'm
a
senior
this
year,
and
I'm
going
to
be
talking
to
you
guys
about
my
ap
government
class
that
I'm
a
part
of
this
year
and
it's
it's
been
so
much
fun.
And
specifically,
we
just
did
this
project
where
we
got
together
with
like
groups
of
three
or
four
people,
and
we
thought
of
a
problem
that
we
were
facing
in
maybe
the
fargo
area
or
statewide
that
we
could
address.
O
So
we
made
like
a
two
minute
long
video
and
we
got
to
send
these
videos
through
youtube
to
representative
boucher,
and
so
he
got
to
watch
these
and
he
came
to
our
class
two
days
later
and
we
got
to
present
a
solution
to
our
problem
and
my
group.
Just
really
briefly.
We
talked
about
the
need
for,
like
a
community
center
for
high
school
students
for
after
school
to
do.
Homework
have
like
club
meetings,
have
computers
tutors
just
stuff
like
that.
O
So
we
got
to
kind
of
put
a
business
plan
forward
for
him
and
present
it
to
him,
and
we
were
all
competing
for
250
000.
It
was
kind
of
just
it
was.
It
was
really
fun.
We
actually
got
second
place
in
my
class,
but
it
was
a
lot
of
fun
and
learned
how
to
work
with
other
people.
We
were
all
so
busy
and
it
was.
It
was
good
for
to
kind
of
figure
out
how
to
do
that,
work
together
and
put
together
something
that
could
actually
be
applied
in
real
life.
O
P
So
my
name
is
steve
roell
and
I
teach
at
davies
high
school.
This
is
drew
mclean.
She
is
a
student
there
in
my
ap
gov
and
my
econ
class,
and
we
went
very
deep
into
the
skills
last
semester
second
quarter
of
which
drew
was
a
part
of
really
heavy
into
collaboration,
communication,
critical
thinking-
and
I
explained
it
to
my
students
in
such
a
way
that
it's
like
driving
a
car.
P
I
grew
up
in
wapton,
I
learned
to
drive
my
car
in
wapton
and
the
you
know
the
tool
I
used
was
wapton
in
order
to
learn
the
skill
which
was
driving
and
now
I
can
drive
in
fargo.
I
can
drive
in
minneapolis,
I
can
drive
in
chicago
so
that
skill
is
transferable
and
when
I
explain
it
that
way,
the
students
finally
were
like.
Q
Thanks,
mr
real
so
I'm
drew
and
I
go
to
davies,
I'm
a
senior
this
year
and
I
participated
in
a
project
last
semester.
I
had
the
opportunity
to
be
the
supervising
analyst
for
a
big
group
project
where
we
worked
as
a
class
to
put
together
a
cpi
index
which
was
really
challenging,
but
I
think
some
of
the
most
important
things
I've
learned
from
it
and
my
classmates
as
well
just
through
discussion
in
class
and
outside
of
class,
was
the
critical
thinking
piece
of
it.
Q
I
have
a
job,
I
had
a
job
at
noodles
and
company
and
it's
pretty
basic.
You
know
I
serve
the
food.
H
Oh,
you
know
what
you
can
see
it:
it's
not
just
one
grade:
it's
not
just
one
teacher,
it's
across
the
board
and
then
the
back
of
your
little
slips
right
there.
I
I
invite
you.
I
hope
that
you're
so
curious
that
you're
like
oh,
I
can
hardly
wait
for
this
meeting
to
get
over.
I
want
to
get
home.
I
want
to
start
looking
at
that
social
studies
webpage
and
thank
you
for
your
time.
Honestly,
we
are
clear
eyes.
We
do
have
a
great
vision
and
I
thank
you
for
it.
R
A
Our
own
little
stutter
start
here
we're
not
gonna
we're
gonna.
Do
you
have
any
questions?
I
don't
know.
First
of
all,
I
want
to
thank
all
the
students
who
took
the
time
from
their
families
to
come
here
and
present.
It's
so
challenging.
We
just
got
back
from
a
convention
in
boston
and
a
lot
of
sessions
were
on
just
you
know.
A
That's
that
kind
of
integrated
learning
and
experiential
critical
thinking
and
all
those
skills
are
so
amazingly
important,
and
it
was
so
great
to
just
see
that,
as
you
say,
just
demonstrated
right
in
front
of
us
and
thank
you
to
the
teachers
as
well.
How
about
one
more
hand
for
the
students.
A
A
A
A
No
one
has
signed
up
to
address
the
board.
Is
there
anyone
who
missed
the
sign
up
sheet
who
intends
to
address
the
board
okay
staff
reports?
There
will
not
be
an
fea
person
here,
so
we'll
go
on
to
5b
the
communications
report.
D
Marie
I
magically
came
out
here.
As
you
know,
communications
has
been
placed
within
the
new
strategic
plan.
It
is
part
of
strategic
initiative,
five,
so
tonight's,
the
meeting
where
the
communications
team
gets
to
report
to
you
about
our
efforts
and
we
have
provided
you
a
written
report
in
advance
with
lots
of
stats,
a
lot
of
information
we'll
touch
on
a
few
of
those
things,
but
then
we'll
share
on
some
other
topics
as
well.
D
As
you
know,
we
have
not
had
a
change
in
our
team
membership
since
the
last
time
reported
to
you
last
year,
but
I
just
want
to
overview
that
real
quick.
I
is
the
leader
of
that
team
and
also
do
the
media
liaison
for
our
district.
We
have
betsy
who
focuses
most
of
her
time
with
community
relations.
She
also
does
publications
advertisements
things
like
that
lisa.
She
really
focuses
on
our
marketing
efforts
and
our
social
media.
She
does
all
of
our
newsletters
and
facilitates
our
social
media
channels
and
then
kirby.
D
While
he
doesn't
report
to
me
directly.
We
are
an
inclusive
team.
We
do
bring
others
in.
He
does
all
of
our
website
things,
and
so
she
he
joins
our
team
as
well
as
we
plan
for
the
district,
and
since
you
guys
have
heard
a
lot
from
me
in
the
past,
the
team
is
here
and
are
gonna
share,
some
things
as
well.
So
betsy's
gonna
talk
a
little
bit
about
our
goals
for
the
year.
S
Our
team,
all
four
of
us
cycles
for
for
the
school
year
and
most
of
that
is
sharing
positive
news
of
our
school
district
and
our
students
and
staff
also
try
to
have
a
great
presence
in
social
media.
We
are
on
track,
as
you
can
see
on
the
slide
there.
We
are
on
track
to
meet
or
exceed
our
goals
for
this
school
year,
and
we
have
done
that.
The
last
several
years
weather
cancellations,
garner
many
followers
on
our
social
media
accounts.
S
We
have
not
had
a
school
closings
for
the
last
two
years
and
we're
still
gaining
so
that
is
positive
over
the
past
few
years
worth
working
with
social
media.
We
have
also
gained
insight
into
when
and
where
to
post
to
garner
the
most
mileage
that
we
can
get
out
of
our
stories
and
as
a
result
of
our
insight,
we
are
seen
by
more
people
and
have
made
ourselves
more
visible.
T
I'm
lisa
farnham
and
the
next
slide,
just
kind
of
goes
through.
The
media
release
tally
that
we
have
for
the
last
couple
of
years
and
in
an
effort
to
share
the
great
things
our
teachers
and
students
accomplish
each
and
every
day
the
communications
team
sends
out
media
releases
to
the
local
outlets
and,
as
our
emphasis
has
increased,
on
sharing
those
activities,
we
have
new
events
and
activities
that
are
reported
each
year.
So
you
can
see
those
numbers
have
been
climbing
month
by
month.
D
U
Just
today
we
hit
1
000
subscribers,
so
that's
since
we
went
live
on
january
15th
on
the
new
platform.
Those
are
people
that
have
now
signed
up
to
get
notifications
and
e-alerts.
U
D
And
one
thing
we
did
touch
on
when
we
showed
this
to
you
before
you
know
with
the
new
redesign
of
the
website,
it
is
tailored
to
be
more
active
and
have
news
as
at
its
forefront
both
on
the
district
website
and
on
the
school
pages.
The
school
pages
are
more
individualized
and
have
actively
updated
content
and
most
mostly
from
this
team.
So
with
the
relaunch
of
our
website,
there
has
been
some
workflow
changes
within
our
team,
as
we
continue
to
put
out
positive
information
and
have
that
active
and
up
to
date
on
our
website.
S
This
might
be
through
email
through
phone
through
our
link
on
our
web
address
that
I
get
direct
emails
from,
and
topics
covered
on,
a
daily
basis
really
run
the
gamut
of
anything
and
everything
that
you
can
think
of
from
how
to
register
your
student
to
what
changes
there
are
in
the
boundaries.
Maybe
a
question
on
our
policies:
people
that
are
relocating
and
how
they're
going
to
go
about
doing
that,
and
this
is
stuff
that
they
are
able
to
come
to
us
and
we're
able
to
answer
as
well.
So
just
another
portion
of
our
communication.
D
Now,
as
you
know,
we
focused
a
good
part
of
the
first
part
of
the
year
on
our
external
communications,
with
redesigning
the
website
and
now,
as
we
go
forward,
we're
going
to
start
working
and
looking
at
the
our
internal
communications
and
how
we
communicate
with
staff.
Recently,
we
had
a
very
short,
quick
questionnaire
that
we
had
out
to
our
staff
on
questions
on
how
we
communicate
with
them.
D
So
I
just
want
to
have
a
couple
slides
here
on
some
of
the
feedback,
and
you
can
read
that
on
the
screen
we
asked
you
know
how
do
you
receive?
Where
do
you
receive
district
news?
And
you
know
weren't
surprised
with
this
from
mostly
from
our
own
sources,
employee
portal,
the
journey
school
principal
another
slide.
How
would
you
like
to
receive
news?
D
And-
and
there
is
the
the
stats
there-
people
like
to
receive
that
from
email
now,
a
couple
of
things
on
that
recently,
we've
been
doing
more
direct
emails
to
staff
with
information,
but
what
I
also
want
to
share
with
you
is,
as
we
receive
information
like
this
and
feedback
from
our
staff.
It's
interesting
in
our
communications
audit.
If
you
remember,
we
did
hear
from
staff
that
we
should
email
less,
we
that
they
get
a
lot
of
email
and
we
shouldn't
send
them
so
much
email.
D
But
then
we
do
receive
this
type
of
information
that
send
us
information
by
email.
So
we
have
to
take
all
of
that
feedback
and
and
as
we
make
decisions
and
use
that
as
best
way
possible.
Also
in
this
staff
survey
we
had
an
open-ended
questions
to
receive
more
feedback.
We
are
looking
at
that
and
making
changes
as
we
go
forward.
D
We've
already
started
looking
at
how
we
lay
out
our
internal
newsletter,
the
journey
making
some
changes
to
that,
making
that
more
user-friendly.
Also,
I'm
already
getting
the
operational
plan
together
for
next
year.
We
know
that
we'll
be
looking
at
as
a
team
and
and
broader
in
the
district
as
well.
Looking
at
our
internal
employee
portal
see
where
we
can
make
adjustments
to
that
make
improvements,
so
we
have
that
again,
being
user
friendly
and
people
can
find
information
on
that
readily
and
easily.
A
Thanks
everybody,
it's
that's,
always
wonderful
to
see
how
it's
growing
every
year,
good
good
work.
Anybody
have
any
questions
or
comments.
John.
E
D
Not
on
our
website,
no,
we
do
place
those
in
the
legal
place
as
in
the
in
the
paper
as
we're
supposed
to,
but
at
this
time
we
don't
have
that
on
our
website.
Now,
that's
something
we
can
do
in
the
future,
but
we.
E
E
So
it's
just
a
thought
to
put
on
your
exploration
horizon
of
down
the
road
as
you
go
forward,
whether
or
not
that's
feasible
and
then
maybe
when
discussions
do
have
surface,
we
might
even
have
some
data
that
says
people
don't
do
care
or
don't
care
or
follow
them
or
not.
But
it's
it's
just
the
world
we're
in.
V
Rebecca,
I
just
wanted
to
say
thanks
for
you
know
tying
in
doing
the
work
that
you
can
to
tie
in
the
communications
audit,
with
the
work
that
you're
going
to
continue
to
do.
I
know
that
there
was
there's
was
so
much
emphasis
on
the
website
which
needed
to
be
there
and
will
be
continuing
to
be
improved,
but
there
definitely
were
items
that
were
listed
in
that
communications,
audit
that
were
directed
towards
board
activity
and
also
district
activity.
Like
we've
talked
about
in
some
of
our
communications
committee
meetings.
R
R
I
think
that
the
district
has
done
before
and
they
just
keep
improving,
and
the
one
thing
I
think
is
impressive
is
that
we
are
interested
in
feedback
so
doing
a
staff
survey
and
those
types
of
things
to
make
sure
that
we're
reaching
people
the
way
that
they
want
to
be
reached
or
the
way
that
they
are
being
reached
nowadays
and
as
technology
continues
to
move
forward.
We
need
to
continue
to
watch
that
and
see
which
are
the
best
ways
to
communicate
with
people,
but
they're
a
fabulous
team
and
they
do
great
work.
D
Nice
well
and
I'd
just
like
to
share
it
as
a
team
effort.
All
of
us
do
work.
We
work
well
together.
Obviously
we
we're
continuing
to
do
more
and
garner
the
results
of
that,
but
we
we
all
we
divide
and
conquer.
We
get
it
all
done
and
we've
tackled
it
all
as
a
team.
So
I
do
thank
the
whole
whole
group
for
everything
we
do.
A
C
If
that
would
be
the
appropriate
way
to
do
it,
I
did
have
a
question
about
something
on
the
consent
agenda,
so
I
just
recommend
that
we
pull
the
human
resources
board
addendum
dated
412
2016
from
the
consent
agenda.
For
some
brief
discussion.
A
Okay,
so
with
items
b
and
e
pulled,
I
would
entertain
a
motion
to
approve
items,
a
c
and
d
of
the
consent
agenda.
A
I'll
all
in
favor,
say
aye
aye
all
opposed
same
okay.
So,
let's
start
with
well
go
ahead,
paul,
let's
just
start
with
b.
C
C
We
have
overload
fta
fte,
non-renewals
and
first
time,
I've
seen
non-renewals
for
quite
some
time
and
I'm
just
wondering
if
I'm
reading
this
correctly
was
this
a
non-renewal
initiated
by
us
or
made
by
some
other
route.
Or
is
this
really
a
non-renewal,
or
are
we
just
cutting
down
on
the
overloads
because
we
lump
three
things
into
that
one
sentence
sure.
W
Yeah
from
what
I've
looked
at
it,
we
did
have
this
as
a
section
before
that
included
all
three
areas
on
past
board
or
human
resource,
addendums
and
actions,
but
in
this
area
what
we're
doing
is
just
trying
to
be
consistent
with
the
recommendations
we've
gotten
from
the
north
dakota
school
board
association
regarding
non-renewing
overloads,
as
well
as
our
retiree
contracts,
just
to
make
sure
we're
following
the
letter
of
the
law.
W
C
No,
I
just
want
to
follow
up
on
it.
I
understand
lumping
them
together.
I
think
you
know,
if
that's
what
we
do,
that's
what
we
do
and
that's
some
problem.
I
you
know
with
regard
to
kristin
and
yvonne,
and
since
it's
that's
apparently
a
non-renewal,
is
that
just
a
non-renewal
of
their
overload
segment
or
are
they
contin
and
are
they
continuing
to
be
employed
in
a
regular
load.
W
One
of
these
is
a
retiree,
so,
like
I
mentioned,
we
do
non-renew
the
retirees
now
and
that
is
consistent
across
north
dakota.
We
haven't
done
it
just
so.
You
know
at
fargo
public
schools,
but
we
had
four
retirees
on
contract
less
than
half-time
contracts
that
returned
and
our
process
has
not
been
to
non-renewal
of
those.
But
after
conversations
with
the
other
districts
in
north
dakota,
the
best
avenue
was
to
make
sure
we're
doing
that
on
the
front
end.
Many
of
these
individuals
will
come
back.
W
C
Sorry,
I'm
I'm
asking
a
question,
I'm
getting
more
of
an
answer
than
I
can
comprendo
here.
So
let
me
just
ask
it
again:
you
take,
for
example,
yvonne
when
it
says
that
she
has
a
0.49
non-renewal.
W
W
W
They've
already
retired
yes,
so
we're
not
choosing
to
make
that
retirement.
They've
already
done
that
they're.
C
R
It
is
a
non-renewal
because
of
the
the
needs
that
we
staff
for,
and
there
is
not
a
need
for
0.6
in
that
art-
am
I
correct
rachel?
Therefore,
she
is
in
a
non-renewal
situation,
not
a
full-time
employee,
so
in
order
for
us
to
staff
appropriately
and
at
the
right
levels,
she's
in
a
situation
of
a
non-renewal.
R
Now,
if
art
sections
or
other
enrollments
start
to
prove
differently,
she
would
then
be
the
first
one
that
we
would
go
to
and
hire
back
and
and
and
give
her
a
position.
And
so
this
is
just
a
procedural
process
to
make
sure
we're
following
century
code,
best
practices
and
then
making
sure
that
we're
not
carrying
on
contracts
that
we
don't
need
and
then
we're
paying.
For.
So
that's
what
it's.
C
All
about
thanks
for
the
clarification,
dr
schatz
and
so
take,
for
example,
in
kristen's
case,
if
there
were
any
kind
of
an
art
position
available,
that
she
was
qualified
for
she'd,
more
or
less
be
at
the
first
of
the
list
anywhere
in
the
district.
She
would
be
the
first
one
on
the
list.
Okay,
thanks
for
the
clarification
so.
C
D
Linda,
thank
you.
This
is
the
third
low
the
third
year
that
we've
done
overload
non-renewals
great.
R
Regarding
the
long
list
too,
I
would
just
turn
your
attention
to
the
actual
human
resources
board
agenda,
leave
a
maps
and
resignations,
and
if
you
go
to
the
second
and
third
page,
you
will
find
that
long
list
of
people
that
had
overloads
and
the
overloads
that
were
non-renewing.
So
this
was
an
addendum
because
we
didn't
have
those
numbers
when
we
put
this
together.
Otherwise,
you
would
have
seen
these
listed
in
that
same
list
just
to
clarify
for
you.
Okay,.
D
A
We
need
that
item,
item
b
6b.
So
thank
you.
Second,
any
other
discussion,
and
since
it's
on
the
consent
agenda,
does
it
need
to
be
roll
call
after
it's
been
pulled
off
the
consent
agenda?
Okay,
thank
you.
X
E
D
A
Okay,
so
then
we
will
go
to
what
is
now
business
item
regarding
the
pre-kindergarten
program
form
approval,
okay,.
B
B
B
I
sit
on
the
fargo
early
childhood
education
grant
coalition,
and
that
was
the
the
loan
group
in
fargo
that
decided
to
go
ahead
with
a
grant
the
grant
requests
this
year.
49
requests
came
in
across
the
state
and
all
of
them
were
funded.
So
it's
a
great
start
for
early
childhood
education
in
north
dakota.
B
I
I
we
all,
as
we
got
together,
consider
this
kind
of
a
pilot
pilot
year
and
the
authors
of
the
bill
and
dpi
superintendent
basler
are
looking
forward
to
feedback
as
to
how
we
can
improve
the
bill
and
things
that
are
going
well
and
things
that
can
be
improved
upon.
So
we
are
compiling
those
things.
As
we
proceed-
and
I
assume
other
districts
are
in
addition
to
that
so
great
great
news
for
north
dakota,
great
news
for
early
childhood
education
and
preparing
our
kids
to
join
us
in
k-12.
A
Thank
you
very
much,
and,
and
thank
you
for
that,
and
we
according
to
the
statute,
we
are
the
body
that
has
to
just
a
prove
this
being
submitted.
A
Great
any
questions
comments
before
we
take
the
vote.
I'd
just
like
to
add
our
thanks
to
senator
flackle.
So
thanks
for
your
hard
work
on
this,
I
know
it
took
a
lot
to
happen.
Yes,.
E
Madam
chair,
even
though
it's
a
little,
maybe
questionably
germane
relative
to
the
field
of
education,
senator
flacco
was
just
awarded.
Perhaps
the
most
prestigious
student
given
award
at
ndsu
the
other
day
from
it's,
the
blue
key
doctor
of
service
award
specifically
for
his
contributions
to
education.
This
just
being
one
of
the
elements
he's
involved
in.
F
A
Thank
you
so
now
we're
into
our
other
business
items,
so
the
first
first
one
in
front
of
us
is
our
superintendent
contract
and
robin
is
chair
of
that
hawk
committee.
If
you
would
present.
B
Please
you
all
have
in
front
of
you
the
amended
contract
that
we
are
asking
for
approval
tonight
from
the
board
jennifer
benson,
rebecca
knutson,
and
I
served
on
that
committee.
B
B
B
F
A
Seeing
none,
I
would
just
like
to
add
my
thoughts
to
this.
A
First
of
all,
thank
you
for
your
work
committee
members
and
I
just
want
to
thank
dr
schatz
for
that's
a
powerful
signal
to
our
district
and
I
had
a
chance
to
visit
with
dr
schatz,
and
he
was
extremely
insistent
I'll
say
that
this
contract
be
put
forward
with
zero
pay
increase,
and
I
think,
as
we're,
asking
every
building
every
department
to
come
forward
with
with
suggestions
in
in
their
proposed
portions
of
the
budget
for
the
year
and
with
our
dollars
frozen,
that
that
shows
real
leadership.
So
thank
you
for
that.
C
A
And
thank
you
for
calendar
approval
rebecca.
Please.
V
Okay,
so
you
have
a
copy
of
the
2017-18
working
draft
calendar
for
that
school
year,
and
I
just
want
to
thank
everyone
that
served
on
that
committee
and
also
wanted
to
thank
again,
especially-
I
guess
I
shouldn't
say
especially,
but
additionally,
the
students,
the
three
high
school
students
that
agreed
to
serve
on
the
committee
and
they
definitely
added
value
to
our
discussion
and
had
an
impact
on
the
decisions
that
we
made.
So
I
hope
that
we
can
continue
to
include
them
on
on
the
committee
for
future
planning.
V
As
as
we
look
at
ways
to
incorporate
students
in
other
areas
of
the
work
that
we
do.
So
I
guess
I'm.
I
would
like
to
move
that
the
2017-18
draft
calendar
that
has
been
presented
to
us
today
be
approved
with
the
first
day
of
the
classroom
instruction
beginning
thursday
august
24
2017
and
the
last
day
of
classroom
instruction
being
thursday
may
31st.
2018
professional
development
days
at
the
beginning
of
the
school
year
will
be
august,
21st,
22nd
and
23rd,
and
at
the
end
of
the
school
year
june,
1st.
A
Y
Y
G
Y
Can
ask
a
follower,
and
do
we
intend
to
do
continue
continual
surveys,
year
after
year
to
gather
data
in
terms
of
you
know,
there
was
a
lot
of
discussion
last
year
about
starting
before
or
after
labor
day
and
when
we're
ending
and
when
we're.
G
Yes,
the
plan
will
be
once
next
year's
calendar
comes
to
be.
We
will
put
out
a
similar
survey.
We
want
to
make
sure
that
people
have
the
opportunity
to
experience
the
week-long
spring
break,
that's
in
that
calendar
or
at
least
plan
for
it,
and
then
we'll
ask
similar
questions
that
we
did
in
the
past.
G
What
is
the
most
appropriate
start
and
end
time?
Do
you
favor
a
week-long
spring
break
or
not,
and
then
also
as
we
look
at
some
of
the
timing
of
some
of
the
other
days
that
are
put
into
that
calendar,
if
that
happens,
to
be
our
storm
days
and
around
other
holidays,
so,
yes,
we
will
continue
that
practice
and
the
idea
will
be
on
an
every
other
year
basis.
A
Yes,
motion
carries.
I
have
a
feeling.
This
next
item
may
entail
a
lot
of
discussion
and
it's
not
quite
an
hour,
but
I
think
this
is
a
good
time
for
a
break,
so
we
will
come
back
in
five
minutes,
so
it's
6
25,
please.
A
Now
we
are
at
the
motion
to
rescind
board
salary
increase.
This
action
was
taken.
A
This
came
to
governance
to
be
placed
on
the
agenda,
and
I
we
had
some
discussion
of
just
the
procedure
at
the
governance
committee,
and
so
I
had
asked
if
anne
marie
would
just
include
this
portion
of
robert's
rules
in
this
memo.
Just
so,
we
have
it
in
front
of
us
and
can
familiarize
ourselves
with
it.
So
with
that,
since
jim
has
given
notice
that
he
will
be
bringing
it
up
I'll,
send
it
over
to
you.
X
Thank
you,
linda
and
just
by
way
of
background,
I
think
most
people
will
probably
recall
my
initial
intent
was
to
potentially
just
amend
the
motion.
We
had
made
the
more
I've
thought
about
it,
the
more
I
think
perhaps
rescinding
it
is
the
right
way
to
go
point.
X
As
I
indicated
when
I
notified
everybody
that
I
was
intending
to
take
some
type
of
action
on
this
motion
that
we
had
taken,
it
was
really
from
the
perspective
of
recognizing,
where
we
are
as
a
district
with
our
budget
process
currently
recognizing
that
our
local
property
tax
revenues
have
been
frozen
and
the
uncertainty
going
forward
of
what
amount
of
increase
will
be
seen
in
future
foundation
aid
formulas.
X
In
light
of
the
challenges
that
bismarck's
certainly
going
to
be
facing,
I
had
originally
thought
that
I
would
just
amend
this
and
push
the
date
back
a
full
year,
so
we'd
actually
see
what
the
state
foundation
formula
going
forward
would
be,
but
the
more
I
have
thought
about
it,
the
more.
I
think
that
isn't
the
correct
way
to
go
about
this.
X
I
think
we
either
decide
as
a
board,
as
we
already
did,
to
take
a
raise
whether
we
leave
this
one
in
place
or
something
else
happens
or
we
decide
as
a
board.
This
is
not
the
time
for
us
to
be
considering
raising
board
compensation
and
revisit
it
annually
like
we're
supposed
to
and
would
be
doing
regardless
of
whether
or
not
we
take
action
differently
than
is
currently
in
in
place
for
us.
X
I
think
jeff's
leadership,
recognizing
the
challenges
that
we
are
going
to
put
in
front
of
all
of
our
staff
certainly
are
a
sign
of
leadership,
and
I
think
we
too,
as
a
board,
need
to
consider
the
messages
we're
sending
we're
going
to
certainly
be
able
to
have
a
balanced
budget.
I
know
brock
and
his
team
have
been
working
on
it.
X
Planning
is
going
to
be
taking
a
look
at
it
coming
up,
so
I
have
no
real
fear
that
the
sky
is
falling
on
the
district,
but
it's
more
the
philosophy
of
leadership
that
I
believe
we
need
to
be
paying
attention
to.
There
is
a
second
component
of
it.
That
is
somewhat
interesting,
although
it
has
nothing
to
do
with
whether
or
not
we
would
rescind
this
motion
or
not.
X
X
In
any
case,
if
we
leave
this
in
place,
we're
going
to
want
to
clarify
it.
So
when
brock
is
tasked
with
coming
up
with
the
number
he'll
know
exactly
what
formula
to
be
using,
I
think
a
better
approach
is
to
probably
put
this
aside
deal
with
it
next
year,
again,
as
we
always
do,
and
the
year
after
that,
based
upon
the
fiscal
situation,
we
find
ourselves
in
at
that
point
in
time.
C
Paul
jim,
so
I
I
believe
you
were
pretty
actively
involved
when
we
negotiated
our
contracts
with
the
teachers
and
other
staff
members
in
the
past,
and
we
knew
somewhat
of
our
financial
situation
at
that
time.
We
knew
what
regulations
were
coming
down
the
tracks.
It
wasn't
a
surprise
and
yet
we
made
a
fairly
substantial
increase
to
those
contracts
and
I'm
just
wondering
maybe
you
could
enlighten
us
a
little
bit
on
your
thoughts
with
regard
to
that
and
help
explain
why
we
did
that
or
should
we
have
done
that
or
how
do
you
feel
about
that?
C
X
X
When
we
negotiated
with
the
teachers,
we
had
a
much
different
perspective
of
state
revenues
going
on.
It's
changed
pretty
dramatically
in
a
pretty
short
amount
of
time
period,
and
in
fact,
when
we
negotiated
with
the
teachers,
we
were
still
hopeful
that
we
would
get
a
positive
vote
of
the
people
that
would
not
keep
our
mill
levy
frozen
or
our
dollars
frozen,
based
upon
our
our
current
mill
levy
number.
X
And
again,
I
want
to
say,
the
sky
is
not
falling.
This
is
about
leadership
and
a
philosophy
of
understanding
that
we
are
in
a
different
fiscal
environment
today
than
we
were
a
year
and
a
half
ago
when
we
negotiated
with
the
teachers
and,
quite
frankly,
it's
one
of
the
reasons,
not
the
only
one.
It's
one
of
the
reasons
I
didn't
support
this
motion
back
in
january.
F
F
I
don't
know
whatever
the
words
are
people
use,
and
I
certainly
felt
like
this
aside
from
jim's,
pointing
out
that
perhaps
semantics
we'd
have
to
figure
that
out
more
clearly
and
didn't
clarify
that
that
this
seemed
in
principle
to
be
an
appropriate
way
to
increase
board
compensation
on
a
regular
basis
in
a
limited
amount,
without
it,
it
being
overwhelming
and
not
having
to.
You
know,
catch
up
at
some
point
down
the
road
with
some
large
sum
all
at
one
time
it
it
it's
a
reasonable
presentation.
F
But
we
that's
a
bigger
consideration
now
because
of
the
state
funding
and
how
that
will
potentially
play
out
for
us.
So
I'm
thinking
that
this
I
might
change
my
mind
and
support
jim
for
those
reasons.
F
But
I
want
to
be
clear
that
I
do
support
this
idea
of
gradually
increasing
the
board
salary
so
that
it
isn't
a
big
jump
at
one
point
and
certainly
if
our
situation
is
different
in
the
next
in
the
coming
months,
when
we
have
a
clearer
picture,
I
certainly
will
be
supporting
this
type
of
endeavor
in
the
future.
E
You
know,
since
then,
we've
had
multiple
con
conversations
about
board,
support
and
standing
as
a
unified
board
when
decisions
are
made,
but
that's
another
topic.
You
know
the
the
notion
of
us
setting
an
example
for
the
public.
I
was
also
the
critic
of
the
process
for
negotiations
where
we,
over
a
weekend
without
board
consultation,
went
from
an
estimated
four
and
a
half
percent
increase
of
additional
funds
to
offer
contracts
to
9.2,
which
cost
1.2
to
1.4
million
a
year.
E
But
but
I
stood
by
the
board's
decision
and
we
knew
then
we
had
a
frozen
mill
of
e
coming.
That
said,
you
know
this
isn't
an
abnormality
to
to
to
de-politicize
the
notion
of
boards
who
are
obligated
to
address
their
own
compensation,
fargo
west
fargo,
cass
county
fargo,
the
state
legislature,
the
west
fargo
school
districts.
Every
single
entity
in
our
community
essentially
has
depoliticized
this
topic.
Now,
if
40
dollars
a
month
is
a
deal
breaker
and
trust
me,
I'm
not
on
this
board.
You'll
also
recall.
E
The
effective
date
was,
after
my
term
ends
after
three
of
our
terms
end
and
the
boards
in
the
future.
What
they
do
you
know
they
can
do,
what
they
choose
to
and
I'll
honor
and
respect
their
decision
as
well,
as
will
the
public,
but
the
the
the
notion
that
that
it
isn't
political
tonight's
discussion
months
later
is
proof
that
it's
political
you
know,
and
and
yes,
we
had
a
superintendent's
salary
that
was
frozen
at
his
request,
and
I
honor
that
I
respect
that
immensely.
E
But
but
the
bigger
issue
here
is,
as
as
we
have
future
boards
working
hard
on
behalf
of
the
constituents
and
the
students
to
to
address
a
potentially
20
year
frozen
levy.
E
You
know
weighing
that
against
compensations
of
110
or
so
million
dollars
of
salaries
and
benefits
when
it's
four
hundred
forty
dollars
a
board
member
is
to
me
just
apples
and
oranges,
and
last
comment
I'll
make
is
if
people
list
listen
back
to
the
recording
of
that
meeting
in
january.
One
of
the
comments
I
made
was
from
the
business
manager
in
west
fargo,
who
said
it's
easy
he'd
walk
us
through
it.
I
used
their
exact
wording
for
their
motion.
E
So
if
we're
quandaried
about
how
to
do
that,
we
have
some
advice
right
right
next
door
with
an
entity
that
our
model,
our
legend,
our
proposal
was
modeled.
After
again
I'll
defer
the
board
if
people
decide.
This
is
something
that
is
worth
going
back
in
time
over
and
guaranteeing
another
fight
in
january
and
another
fight
in
january
again
and
another
fight
in
january
again
and
every
single
time.
It
comes
up
in
the
public
that
there
goes
that
board
and
we're
the
only
ones
that
do
it.
E
V
Rebecca,
I
too
will
respect
the
vote
that
happens
today
and
it's
not
about
the
for
me,
at
least
personally,
if,
if
we
go
back
to
where
we
were
before
or
actually
our
current
stipend,
because
it
hasn't
gone
into
effect,
yet
that's
fine
too.
It's
not
going
to
affect
my
life
one
way
or
another.
V
So
it's
not
about
that
for
me,
but
the
reason
that
I
did
support
it
in
january
was
it
does.
As
john
said,
it
does
at
least
go
to.
I
think
a
certain
a
great
extent
to
help
de-politicize
it
and
put
a
formula
into
place
for
us
to
make
these
decisions
as
every
january
as
we
need
to
make
them,
and
so
I
guess
in
terms
of
setting
an
example
and
leadership,
and
philosophically
I
would
suggest-
and
I
plan
to
go
along
with
the
vote
that
I
cast
in
january.
V
C
C
Thanks
rick,
I
was
just
trying
to
get
clear,
apparently
I'm
unclear
on
a
lot
of
things
tonight.
I
don't
know
why.
But
and
john
you
know,
when
you
mention
well,
this
will
come
up
in
january
again,
and
people
can
vote
on
it.
You
know
the
reality
is
that
there
have
been
a
number
of
people
on
the
board.
Who've
supported
this
motion
over
the
years
and
several
of
those
people
will
not
be
on
the
board
the
next
time.
C
This
comes
up
so
that
matter
may
maybe
somewhat
mood,
and
I
think
that
you
know
we
have
a
whole
lot
of
ways
that
we
can
try
to
impress
the
public
with
our
mindful
watch
over
finances
and,
frankly,
I
think
our
our
finance
department,
our
business
manager,
does
an
amazing
job,
along
with
help
from
many
board
members
and
the
rest
of
the
administration
to
do
exactly
that
in
some
some
very
large
and
significant
items,
including
refunding
of
bonds
and
paying
off
items
early
so
that
we
can
save
the
interest
on
that
and
those
are
huge
numbers
compared
to
the
amount
that
you're
looking
at
here.
C
And
the
other
thing
is
that
really,
in
my
opinion-
and
I've
felt
this
all
along
year
after
year,
as
we've
brought
this
up,
the
increase
in
salary
is
not
really
about
paying
each
of
us
more
money,
because
we've
managed
now
to
do
it
in
such
a
way
that
even
those
of
us
who
voted
in
favor
of
it
won't
be
here.
For
that
and
that's
fine.
C
But
I
think,
as
this
year
pointed
out,
we
have
a
fair
amount
of
interest
from
people.
C
Who'd
like
to
be
on
this
board-
and
the
reality
is-
is
that
when
you
look
around
the
board,
most
of
us
who
are
on
the
board
can
probably
afford
to
go
to
those
meetings
and
to
be
absent
from
work
and
to
do
other
things
that
are
necessary
and
that's
fine,
but
for
the
average
person
who
might
like
to
spend
some
time
on
this
board,
it
can
be
an
economic
hardship,
and
so
I
think
realizing
that
it's
only
reasonable
to
increase
or
modify
your
wages.
C
That's
the
reason
that
I
voted
in
favor
of
it
last
time
and
I
don't
want
to
go
down
the
same
track,
that
the
state
of
north
dakota
went
for
many
years,
where
they
denied
state
employees,
wage
increases
and
yet
continued
somewhat
on
a
rampage
spending
money
in
other
ways.
I
don't
think
that's
a
good
idea.
So,
although
I
have
been
wavering
a
little
bit
because
I
know
jim
brings
us
up
for
honorable
intentions-
and
I
know
john-
your
motion
was
also
for
honorable
intentions.
A
I
would
just
have
a
couple
thoughts
to
to
share.
A
Certainly
the
dollar
amount
we're
talking
about
is
very
modest,
although
if
you
recall,
we
are
paid
more
than
any
other
school
board
by
quite
a
quite
a
good
margin
in
our
region.
So
I
don't
know
what
what
large
increases
may
be
in
the
future
that
we're
aiming
for.
We
really
haven't
had
that
discussion,
and
so
it
is,
of
course
it's
symbolic.
It's
absolutely
symbolic!
A
I
I
think
that's
a
lot
of
the
issue
in
my
mind
and
going
to
an
annual
automatic
increase
to
kind
of
get
around
having
that
discussion
every
year
I
mean
it's
there's
to
me,
there's
a
reason
it's
in
state
statute,
because
I
think
that
kind
of
transparency
is
being
asked
of
us
that
every
year
we
make
the
case
of
if
we
do
believe
that
we,
for
whatever
reasons
we
want
to
make
and
put
out
there,
that
we
should
be
paid
x
instead
of
y,
that
we
need
to
make
that
case
to
our
constituents
every
year.
A
So
I
don't
mind
that
we
are
on
that,
that
annual
calendar
fixed
item
that
that's
expected
of
us-
and
I
I
do
want
to
just
address
one
thing
that
that
john
said,
because
you
know
I
I
absolutely
honor
the
reason
you
brought
it
up
and
and
and
feeling
that
that
was.
That
was
the
right
thing
to
do
genuinely,
but
I
do
feel
that
we
did
follow
our
policies
aft
in
january,
because
it
was
a
close
vote.
A
Four
to
five
and
to
my
knowledge,
nobody
went
out
on
the
social
media
or
radio
or
wrote
a
letter
to
the
editors.
You
know
saying
how
much
they
disagreed
with
the
action
there
was.
There
was
nothing
we
were.
We
were
proceeding
as
one,
but
as
members
of
a
board,
we
do
have
the
right,
according
to
our
policies
of
following
robert's
rules,
to
bring
an
item
back.
So
I
I
don't
think
in
either
direction
where
we
we
did
anything
wrong.
Procedurally,
so
which
again,
I'm
I'm
proud
of
how
serious
everyone
takes
their
service.
F
B
C
And
I
I
would
just
like
to
add
too,
because
I
I
really
don't
think
that
anyone
has
intended
that
this
particular
process
become
one.
You
know
we
talk
about
de-politicizing
this,
but
I
guess
I
would
say
we
should
be
proud
of
the
service
we
do
and
it's
not
a
political
question
about
whether
or
not
the
members
of
the
board
or
the
superintendent
or
the
staff
or
anyone
gets
a
raise.
It's
not
not
about
that.
C
E
So
it
is
an
annual
january
requirement
for
us,
but
any
future
board,
of
course,
can
undo
any
action
of
any
previous
board
and
or
affect
it
differently
for
the
future.
A
D
C
E
D
Y
X
C
D
C
Point
of
parliamentary
procedure
would
it
be
correct
that
this
could
actually
be
reconsidered
for
another
ascension
later
on.
If
we
wanted
to.
D
E
Madam
chair,
just
not
that
it
happens,
but
it's
my
understanding.
You
can
re
consider
even
a
vote
to
rescind
it
has
to
be
hap,
take
place
in
the
immediate
meeting
by
a
member
of
the
prevailing
majority,
or
they
have
to
give
notice
of
it
to
happen
in
the
immediate
next
meeting
is
is
if,
as
if
a
reconsideration
happens,
that's
how
how
I
understand
it
so.
E
V
V
V
X
I
believe
there
are
two
options
available
at
this
point
in
time.
Well,
actually,
three,
as
john
rightfully
pointed
out,
a
motion
could
come
forward
from
somebody
that
voted
yes
on
the
motion.
We
just
passed
to
reconsider
it
either
tonight
or
to
request
that
it
be
placed
on
the
next
school
board
agenda.
X
A
To
answer
your
question:
have
we
have
we
followed
our
policy
by
having
that
conversation?
I
think
the
answer
is.
Is
yes
because
the
question
before
us
in
january
was:
do
we
go
forward
another
year
at
the
same
compensation,
or
do
we
increase
it,
so
we
set
at
that
mo
at
that
meeting
to
increase
it
now
we
said
nope
we're
not
going
to
so
I
think
by
default
we
are.
We
are
back
at
the
current
level
of
con
compensation
until
it
comes
back
on
our
calendar
in
january.
E
Indeed,
any
action
of
the
board
can
be
rescinded
as
long
as
it
hasn't
yet
been
implemented
or
or
consequently
implemented,
and
this
hasn't
been
implemented.
But
it
doesn't
nullify
the
fact
that
it
was
in
fact
an
action
item
on
the
board
in
january,
and-
and
that
is
a
matter
of
record-
and
this
is
also
a
matter
of
record
just
as
on
a
different
front-
erasing
it
or
or
negating
it.
C
Just
a
follow-up
too
to
something
that
I
know,
we've
discussed
a
number
of
times,
but
I
wasn't
sure
if,
if
it's
been
set
into
policy-
and
that
is
a
board
member
bringing
up
any
item
of
new
business-
is
that
mandated
to
go
through
governance
before
they
bring
it
up.
A
Last
year,
but
it
does
state
that
any
member
can
request
an
item
to
be
put
on
the
agenda
and
it
goes
through
government
governance
to
put
it
on
the
agenda.
So.
C
C
A
I
think
I
think
we're
ready
to
move
on
to
the
next
agenda
item.
Thank
you,
policy
monitoring.
You
have
before
you
the
results
from
our
feedback
on
el5
and
el-6
staff
compensation,
ironically
enough
and
staff
treatment.
Y
D
E
A
A
B
Nothing
to
report
other
than
we
need
to
have
a
governmental
affairs
meeting
this
month,
just
to
figure
out
some
strategy
before
the
primaries
or
after
the
primaries,
and
before
I
depart
so
be
looking
for
the
date
on
that.
I
think
I
think
the
third
thursday
of
the
month
or
something.
D
It's
the
third
tuesday,
but
let
me
just
pull
that
up,
so
I
do
believe
that
it
would
be
on
the
schedule
for
next
next
tuesday.
The
19th
at
7
30
is
the
currently
scheduled
time
unless
that
needs
to
be
changed.
C
V
The
communications
committee
will
meet
on
monday
april
25th
at
noon
in
the
boardroom,
and
I
believe
at
our
last
governance
committee
meeting
we
talked
about
when
the
liaison
visit
reports
would
be
given.
I
think
we
moved
them
to
may
10th
is
that
right,
henry.
V
Visits,
I'm
sure
you'll
send
out
another
reminder:
yes,
okay,
awesome
thank
you,
and
I
was
at
the
financial
task
force
meeting
last
monday
and
observed
that
I
know
a
couple
of
us.
A
few
of
us
were
there
and
as
well
as
the
blue
stem
the
press
conference
for
the
blue
stem
summer
concert
series
that
was
very
fun,
I'm
hoping
to
go
to
at
least
some
of
the
building
bridges
conference,
which
is
this
wednesday
and
thursday,
and
I
believe
that
is
it.
Thank
you.
E
Thank
you,
madam
chair
I've.
Two
things
I'd
like
to
request
a
an
additional
blue
stem
advisory
meeting.
We've
had
one
to
my
knowledge
this
year
and
before
my
term
ends,
I
wouldn't
mind
at
least
one
more.
E
Secondly,
the
native
american
commission
meeting
met
the
other
night
and
you're,
probably
reading
it
in
the
news
where,
where
they
had
a
real
energized
discussion
in
the
community
about
a
comedian
coming
to
town,
and
this
I
was
real,
proud
of
the
native
american
commission.
There
were
some
folks
in
the
community
saying
that
you
know
that
they
they
should
try
to
get
to
fargo
theater,
not
to
host
an
event
or
try
get
the
promoter
to
not
bring
such
a
comedian
to
town
when
some
perceived
part
of
his
content
to
be
offensive.
E
But
what
they
did
is
they
issued
a
statement
calling
upon
everybody
in
the
community
to
heighten
sensitivities,
heighten
awareness
to
be
cognizant
of
the
realities
that
sometimes
humor
can
hurt
and
and
so
on.
So
they
they
did
this
and
it
became
quite
a,
and
apparently
I
guess
today
the
comedian
has
canceled
his
shows,
but
will
be
coming
back
and
they've
offered
to
meet.
E
So
it's
quite
an
interesting
week
for
for
that
commission
to
to-
and
I
think
they
took
the
high
road
very,
very
much
so
and
and
I'm
real
proud
of
them.
X
Thank
you
planning
met
boy,
it
seems
like
so
long
ago
now,
but
it
was
actually
march
29th.
We
had
two
major
topics
that
we
worked
on.
X
So
I
think,
that's
probably
scheduled
for
our
next
board
meeting,
if
not
it'll
probably
come
up
in
may,
because
we
certainly
need
to
make
those
decisions,
so
brock
can
put
those
into
the
food
service
budget
which
has
to
be
prepared
in
time
for
us
to
take
action
on
it.
Still
this
spring
early
summer,
we
are
going
to
have
a
follow-up
planning
meeting
on
april
15th
in
light
of
the
government,
giving
me
three
extra
days
to
get
my
taxes
done,
we
decided
we
could
just
have
a
planning
meeting
that
morning
at
7
30.
X
and
those
are
the
same
two
topics
that
we'll
be
looking
at
this
friday.
Another
look
at
where
we're
sitting
in
the
budget
development
process
for
the
coming
school
year,
and
we
had
some
follow-up
questions
that
they
were
researching
on
the
lunch
and
meal
costs
that
will
be
provided
as
well.
So
anybody
that
is
free
and
available
7
30
friday
morning,
we'll
be
right
down
here
in
this
room.
X
One
last
thing:
the
sec
had
a
board
meeting
last
week
to
try
and
approve
some
policies
and
a
few
other
things,
all
of
which
went
pretty
well
they're
still
at
least
at
this
point
in
time
on
the
tracks
on
time
scheduled
to
become
a
freestanding
entity.
This
summer
at
least,
nothing
seems
to
be
derailing
that
process
yet,
and
we
are
now
going
to
have
another
board
meeting
in
april,
because
the
sec
is
going
through
the
advanced
ed
process
as
well
and
much
like
many
of
us
are
going
to
be
meeting
here
next
monday.
A
Thank
you,
and
so
people
who
may
be
watching
or
listening
know
that
many
of
us
just
got
back
yesterday
from
our
national
convention
and
will
be
reporting
out
on
that
to
come.
Did
you
have
okay
and
related
to
that,
so
jim
went
a
day
early
as
a
delegate
from
north
dakota?
A
Are
you
gonna
report
on
that
now
or
fold
that
into
your
okay?
Okay,
and
I
don't
have
anything
beyond
that
to
share
for
my
report
other
than
we've
been
trying
to
find
a
date,
and
thank
you
for
those
of
you
who
filled
out
the
the
doodle,
the
scheduling
thing
and
we're
looking
for
actually
two
dates.
One
summer
retreat
date
for
to
do
basically,
a
professional
development,
refresher,
training,
sort
of
thing,
there'll
be
new
members
and
a
lot
of
us
are
not
super
old-timers.
A
D
F
D
A
July
15th,
so
so
thank
you
for
filling
that
out
and
be
on
the
lookout
for
for
one
following
up
paul.
C
I
just
wanted
to
comment
because
a
rebecca
jarred,
my
memory,
I
was
also
at
that
blue
stem
meeting
this
past
week
and
since
we
didn't
really
talk
too
much
about
it,
I
think
it's
maybe
appropriate,
even
to
mention
for
people
who
may
not
have
been
there
or
for
the
public
who
might
be
watching
or
who
would
hear
about
this
eventually
through
other
media.
C
What
an
amazing
job
the
the
whole
blue
stem
operation
is
doing,
and
I
still
run
into
people
who
say.
Oh
so
you
finally
got
that
turned
around
and
I
usually
have
to
tell
them.
It
really
has
been
in
the
same
direction
for
quite
some
time,
but
it's
accelerating
and
doing
better,
and
I
think
that's
a
good
thing
for
all
of
us
to
know
and
to
share
with
people
when
we
when
we're
out
in
the
public.
C
We
have
an
amazing
opportunity
with
bluestem,
and
that
is
every
summer
we
have
well
this
year.
We
have
at
least
10
concerts
there.
I
think-
and
maybe
more
so
let's
say
we
have
12
concerts
there
with
over
2
000
people
in
attendance.
That's
24
000,
perhaps
not
unique,
but
certainly
individuals
who
attend,
and
I
think
the
more
we
can.
Let
people
know
that
that
whole
facility
exists
because
of
the
fargo
public
schools
and
their
long-term
vision,
how
appropriate
that
is
because
it
isn't
just
the
concerts.
C
A
A
Birthday
all
right,
and
with
that
happy
news,
we
are
adjourned.
We
will
reconvene
april
26th.
Thank
you.
