Description
Fargo Public Schools - Board of Education Meeting - Live Broadcast - June 28, 2016
A
A
D
You
I
just
had
two
items
that
I
wanted
to
bring
to
your
attention
tonight.
So
the
first
one
is
the
communication
awards.
Our
communication
team
has
been
awarded
in
a
couple
of
different
categories
at
a
national
level.
Some
recognition,
I
believe
you
have
a
handout
at
to
your
table
or
did
add
worry.
We
didn't
know
yes,.
E
D
National
school
public
relations,
publications,
electronic
media
contests,
it's
65
different
entries
that
were
submitted
and
our
school
district
was
one
of
the
six
that
received
the
highest
award
of
excellence.
And
so
that's
that's
something
that
we
wanted
you
to
be
aware
of
which
is
pretty
neat,
because
our
website
is
brand
new
and
Emory,
and
the
entire
team
did
a
fabulous
job
with
that
and
now
we're
seeing
that
the
National
Federation
of
press
women,
professional
communications
contest
in
one
category
on
brochures,
nonprofit,
government,
government
or
educational
category.
D
The
HR
department
brochure
was
the
number
one
first,
it
would
took
first
place
in
that
entry
and
so
recognition
again
on
the
print
side
of
things
are
I.
Don't
know
if
you've
seen
that
HR
department
brochure
that
we
use,
but
it's
our
recruitment
brochure
so
again,
kudos
to
the
team
and
then
in
another
category,
newsletters,
nonprofit,
government
or
educational.
D
The
school
talk,
December,
17,
2015
version
of
that
took
second
place
and
so
again
recognition
of
the
journey
school
talk
in
that
newsletter
category
and
a
good
work
that
we're
doing
as
a
district
and
again
Anne
Murray
and
her
team,
Lisa
and
Betsy.
And
everybody
else
that
works
with
them:
they
are
doing
a
fabulous
job
so
kudos
to
them,
and
we
just
wanted
to
make
you
aware
of
that.
A
D
Just
one
last
comment,
and
that
is
tonight
John
and
Paul
and
Robyn
on
behalf
of
the
cabinet
and
myself
we
like
to
congratulate
you
on
all
the
years
of
service
that
you've
given
to
the
Fargo
public
schools.
In
personally.
Working
with,
you
has
been
a
real
pleasure
by
our
team,
and
so
we
wish
you
well
and
we
know
you'll
stay
involved
and
you'll
stay
in
touch
with
us
and
so
kudos
to
you
at
all
the
good
work
that
you've
done.
We
just
wanted
to
make
sure
we
express
that.
So
thank
you.
A
F
A
A
A
A
F
Just
two
things:
Board
of
Health
had
their
meaning
since
we
last
met
and
the
topic
was
reviewing
our
agenda
and
they're
tightening
their
belts
like
everybody
else's,
because
they're,
not
a
hundred
percent
sure
or
we're
not
one
hundred
percent.
Sure
of
how
the
latest
round
of
state
cuts
are
going
to
affect
the
health
situation.
So,
but
they
process
at
the
Board
of
Health
is
they
bring
the
potential
budget
to
our
board,
which
is
an
advisory
board,
and
then
it
has
to
go
once
we
have
made
comment
and
suggestions.
F
A
G
Just
that
we
have
an
SEC
board
meeting
later
this
week.
I
suspect
it'll
be
a
pretty
busy
board
meeting
as
they
try
to
finalize
all
the
pieces,
and
there
are
many
still
moving
to
become
an
independent
entity
of
their
own
come
July
first,
which
I
think
is
still
this
week.
If
I'm
not
mistaken,
so
hopefully
that'll
all
go
smoothly
and
that's
it.
Thank.
H
I
to
attended
the
police
picnic
wandered
around
for
probably
the
last
half
hour
and
just
visited
with
a
variety
of
folks
and
yeah.
We
can
talk
about
that
later.
Obviously,
in
terms
of,
if
that's
something
that
we
feel
like,
we
should
be
involved
in
in
the
community
or
not,
and
then
also
last
week,
I
attended
the
world
refugee
day
event
that
was
at
lindenwood
park,
and
it
was
just
a
good
example
or
a
good
reminder.
H
I
guess
that
we
are
only
option
really
is
to
welcome
people
and
to
to
welcome
in
the
different
cultures
into
our
community,
and
that,
were
you
know,
we're
all
one
community
and
we
are
again
like
we've
talked
before
we're
responsible
for
educating
and
each
other
and
learning
from
each
other
and
we're
a
stronger
community.
If
we
do
that.
So
that
is
my
report.
Thank
you.
Thank.
I
A
A
Nothing
really
to
report
on
that
and
also
had
the
pleasure
of
conducting
an
orientation
session
for
our
three
new
board
members
who
are
our
guests
tonight
and
that
went
very
smoothly
earlier
today
and
I
have
nothing
to
report
other
than
as
you
look
at
my
printed
report,
the
three
items
that,
if
you
haven't
committed
to
yet
board
retreat,
obviously
board
training
for
all
of
us
and
Annemarie
needs
your
RSVP.
If
you
plan
to
go
to
the
troll
would
show
so
those
those
things
need
to
be
RSVP'd
and
highlighted,
and
that
is
my
only
report.
B
A
B
A
A
F
No,
no,
some
of
us
just
don't
let
these
things
go
by
so
it's
my
turn.
Linda
the
2015-16
school
year
was
another
great
year
for
the
Fargo
public
schools
and
the
Board
of
Education.
We
have
appreciated
the
time
you
have
given
to
the
board
in
your
role
as
president.
This
year,
the
district
opened
its
22nd
school
building,
ed
Clapp
elementary
school
and
continued
its
construction
on
its
23rd
Eagles
Elementary,
the
buyout
and
relocation
of
the
operation
center.
F
F
Fargo
public
schools
underwent
its
accreditation
visit
as
part
of
the
five-year
process
through
advanced
ed
after
the
on-site
visit
from
the
external
review
team
in
April,
the
district
and
the
support
of
the
board
was
commended
for
all
their
efforts.
With
the
review
team
recommending
that
Fargo
public
schools
maintain
the
distinction
of
accreditation
by
advanced
ad
for
the
next
five
years.
F
The
commendations
from
the
review
team
were
many
with
one
powerful
practice
specific
to
the
board,
which
reads
the
governing
body
ensures
that
school
and
district
leaders
have
the
autonomy
to
set
and
meet
improvement
goals
outlined
in
the
strategic
plan
and
to
manage
day-to-day
operations.
The
status
of
accreditation
is
one
that
everyone
in
our
community
should
celebrate
as
the
district
faces
an
uncertain
financial
future.
The
board
received
feedback
from
the
financial
financial
planning
task
force
this
spring.
F
Through
this
process,
the
board
received
the
thoughts
of
the
community
on
the
district
standard
of
effort,
while
the
data
is
still
unknown.
The
board
is
committed
to
reaching
out
to
the
taxpayers
again
in
support
of
the
district's
mill
and
support
of
the
students
and
its
schools
in
all
respects.
You
have
folk
have
been
a
focused,
professional
and
respected
leader
Linda.
We
recognize
that
the
success
of
this
board
is
contingent
on
the
leadership,
vision
and
commitment
of
its
president.
We
are
grateful
for
the
time
and
attention
you
have
given
this
role.
A
Two
copies
one
for
each
all
right.
Well,
thank
you
very
much
and
it
you
know.
One
of
the
pleasures
of
serving
in
this
position
is
hearing
about
the
accomplishments,
not
of
the
president,
but
obviously
of
all
of
the
staff
and
and
of
the
entire
board
that
you
get
to
be
fortunate
enough
to
be
a
play,
a
small
role
in.
So
thank
you
to
everyone
for
all
your
hard
work.
It
was
indeed
a
great
year,
and-
and
thank
you,
everyone
for
everything
that
you
do.
B
J
G
Arthur,
first
of
all,
I
need
him
full
disclosure
to
tell
you
as
much
as
I
wanted
to
ad-lib
and
really
tell
about
really
the
friendship
that
you
and
I
have
had
for
all
just
say
several
decades,
rather
than
datos
Ann
Marie
decided
I
actually
had
to
have
a
script
to
follow.
So
I
want
to
thank
her
for
that
John
Arthur.
Today,
you
complete
your
second
term
on
the
fargo
school
board.
G
Through
your
advocacy,
you
stress
the
importance
of
diversity,
for
our
students,
for
our
schools
and
for
our
community,
and
you
support
fair
and
equal
treatment
of
all
people
as
a
fiscal
conservative,
you
analyze
the
district's
budget
and
are
ever
mindful
of
the
contributions
of
the
taxpayers
to
the
education
of
all
Fargo
students.
You've
always
stressed
the
importance
of
policy
in
the
function
of
the
board
and
the
district
as
a
whole.
G
During
your
tenure,
you
have
been
instrumental
in
policy
creation
and
policy
changes,
including
board
policies
requiring
the
public
to
vote
for
any
new
construction
project,
utilizing
the
Fargo
building
authority.
You
always
appreciate
data
and
background
information
and
on
any
pivotal
decision.
You
think,
through
the
data
well
as
a
proponent
of
professional
board
development.
You've
attended
many
conferences
over
your
tenure,
many
seminars,
including
the
North
Dakota
School
Board
Association,
Annual
Conference,
the
National
School
Board
Association,
Annual
Conference,
the
Federal
Relations
Network
and
you'd
eat.
G
You
have
even
been
a
presenter
at
our
North
Dakota
State
School
Board
Association
conference.
During
your
time
on
the
board.
You've
shared
your
time
and
talents
in
leadership
roles
through
a
number
of
ways.
The
long
range
facility
planning
process
which
you
chaired
the
board
committee
of
in
2012
and
2013.
G
You
served
as
chair
of
our
government
affairs
committee
in
two
thousand
fourteen
and
fifteen
and
served
as
a
board
negotiator
in
2013.
You've
offered
your
service
to
the
health
insurance
committee,
the
foundation
board
and,
most
recently
the
Native
American
Commission,
which
I
think
you're
on
record.
As
saying
was
your
favorite
appointment
of
all
John?
We
sincerely
thank
you
for
your
dedication
to
the
students
and
families
of
our
school
district.
We
wish
you
all
the
best.
G
B
Do
madam
chair-
and
you
know
this
is
one
of
those
milestones
in
life
that
so,
if
you
get
to
experience-
and
it's
so
gratifying
when
you
do
and
and
I
I
just
most
sincerely
want
to
thank
all
of
you
for
part
of
my
learning
curve
journey
and
from
being
part
of
a
group
effort
to
to
contribute
so
unconditionally
community,
the
betterment
of
the
community
and
especially
for
our
future
generations
going
through
our
schools.
You
know
when
they're
there
are
so
many
elements
of
and
things
going
through
my
mind.
B
Might
that
be
Appa
might
be
off
of
these
numbers,
but
you're
the
you're,
the
foundation
which
will
bring
history
in
into
future
deliberations,
and
in
that
history
is
so
valuable
and
so
needed
as
we
go
forward.
We
need
to
always
look
into
our
past
to
understand
better
where
we're
going
and
I'm
so
relieved.
I
think
the
community
is
that
you're
you're
there.
Then
we
have
another
chair
of
experience,
but
more
more
recent
is
Jennifer
Benson
and
David
and
Rebecca
David
Paulson
Rebecca
condition.
B
You
know,
you're
you're,
you're
you're
prepared
you're,
your
groom,
your
your
time
is
is
next
and
you
will
you'll
I
trust
will
just
do
a
remarkably
good
job
as
as
you've
already
proven.
You
are
doing
so
already.
Then,
of
course,
the
welcoming
Christie
I'll
wreck
and
Brandi
ani
and
John
Rawdon
biker
each
of
our
new
to
the
to
the
bench
to
be
part
of
the
vision
visioning
of
the
cutes
district,
going
forward,
I
look
forward
to
seeing
your
contributions
unfold.
B
Lastly,
I
am
none
of
us
would
be
very
effective
without
our
staff
without
our
capable
superintendent
stock
aggression.
In
my
time,
dr.
brush
and
and
dr.
Schatz,
you
know
your
leadership
is
just
temporary
and
stellar
and
and
unparalleled
as
far
as
I
believe
in
most
in
the
whole
state
region
for
skill
and
capability.
I
have
the
highest
regard
for
dr.
gross
and
and
for
his
heart,
is
skill
set
and,
and
is
his
constancy
like
a
rock
but
he's
a
heart
thinking,
compassionate
rock.
B
B
B
He
is
the
glue,
I
think,
with
us
board
members
and
and
had
a
career
of
so
many.
So
many
years
of
service,
I
believe,
was
well
over
thirty,
some,
an
ann
marie
campbell
who's,
just
who's
who's,
been
our
our
our
rudder.
In
my
mind,
my
rudder,
my
keep
me
on
task.
My
information
gather
my
resource,
my
my
go-to
person
to
to
kind
of
connect
and
get
back
on
stay
on
path.
You
know.
B
So,
with
this
transition
we
have
roughly
thirty
some
years
of
service
exiting
and
we
have
about
the
same
amount
of
service
remaining
years
of
service
with
the
remaining
board
members
with
the
six
who
have
experience
in
the
development.
Yet
it's
going
to
be
a
really
exciting
time
to
you
know,
it's
always
been
to
have
doors,
opening
new
people
at
the
table
and
new
ideas
and
new
energies
and
and
new
ways
to
go
about
doing
business.
So
I
just
want
to.
Thank
you
all
at
the
bottom
of
my
from
the
bottom
of
my
heart,
yeah.
J
B
A
B
F
Right,
it
helps
always
if
oh,
if
I
turn
it
on
to
right,
is
that
better,
okay,
Paul
tonight,
you're
16
years
of
membership
on
the
Fargo
Board
of
Education
draws
to
a
close
on
November
28th
2000.
You
were
appointed
to
the
board
to
fill
the
seat
vacated
by
her
blood
wig
due
to
his
resignation.
This
was
not
your
first
interaction
with
the
Fargo
School
District.
In
addition
to
being
a
graduate
from
Fargo
North
yourself.
You
also
were
a
teacher
and
a
theater
director
at
North
High
prior
to
joining
the
board
Paul.
F
You
have
a
true
passion
for
the
Arts,
both
the
visual
and
performing
arts
during
the
renovation
of
Fargo
North
High
School,
you
advocated
for
equity
and
facilities,
your
efforts
change
the
renovation
plans
and
in
the
creation
of
the
black
box
theater
at
north
at
trollwood
performing
arts
school
supporter.
You
have
given
of
your
time
and
talents
to
the
program
in
many
ways,
including
being
on
the
trollwood
Coordinating
Council
and
the
bluestem
communication
and
advisory
council.
You
are
a
champion
for
educating
our
highest
learners
and
always
encouraging
improvements
and
expansion
of
the
gifted
services
program.
F
During
your
time
on
the
board,
you
served
as
the
chair
of
the
communications
committee
twice
chair
of
the
negotiations
committee
twice
and
served
as
a
negotiator
twice.
You
have
also
given
of
your
time
to
the
curriculum
council
and
the
foundation
board
a
lifelong
learner.
You
have
expanded
your
board
knowledge
through
attendance
of
national
conferences
through
the
nsba
and
locally
through
the
ND
SBA.
F
You
never
shy
away
from
the
difficult
decisions
in
the
board
room
once
provided
with
the
facts
of
a
decision
and
the
input
of
the
community.
You
have
always
known
the
decision
and
responsibility
lies
with
the
board
in
your
application
materials
for
a
board
seat.
In
two
thousand
you
wrote,
I
would
like
to
be
a
positive
contributing
board
member
who
can
assist
in
building
the
excellence
of
the
Fargo
public
schools.
F
I
believe
I
can
bring
to
the
board
a
positive
voice
with
experience
in
education,
the
arts
and
business,
and
that
you
have
done
on
a
personal
note.
I
have
never
been
one
of
your
students
in
a
traditional
classroom,
but
I
have
certainly
learned
a
lot
from
you
in
the
board.
Classroom
Paul,
a
simple
thank:
you
is
not
enough
to
honor
your
16
years
of
service.
F
C
You
know
at
my
age
I'm
so
glad
so
glad
that
Dinah
recounted.
All
of
that,
because
I
couldn't
remember
most
of
it
and
I
do
remember
some
interesting
things.
So
I
really
didn't
prepare
much
to
say,
but
I'm
sure,
20
or
30
minutes
would
suffice.
A
couple
of
fun
things
that
I
remember
as
jon
was
speaking.
You
know
John
addressed
the
new
board
members
and
he
said
well
new
board
members
soon.
It
will
be
your
time
to
enter
the
ring
and
it
reminded
me
of
a
scene
from
Spartacus.
C
You
know
where
he
says
you're
up
next
buddy,
but
it
has
been
quite
a
trip
for
16
years
and
it's
been
it's
been
a
great
time
and
I
really
appreciated
the
things
that
John
said
about
each
board
member
I'm
not
going
to
do
that,
but
know
that
when
we're
all
done
here,
I
do
have
something
that
I
want
to
give
to
each
board
member
in
each
staff
member
who's
here.
So
maybe
that
will
speak
for
some
of
the
things.
I
have
to
say:
I.
C
Think
it's
been
a
great
board
to
be
a
part
of
and
I'm
looking
forward
to.
Some
really
really
magnificent
things
to
come
for
the
Fargo
School
District
over
the
next
20
years,
or
so
that
I'll
be
around
here
anyway,
and
I
would
like
to
thank
not
only
each
board
member
but
also
our
administrative
staff
who,
as
a
group
and
as
individuals,
have
gone
so
far
above
and
beyond.
What
would
normally
be
expected
to
make
this
school
district
a
great
place
for
all
of
the
students
and
the
staff
and
the
individual
board.
C
Members
I,
don't
think
the
real
the
public
out
there
realizes
how
committed
the
board
members
are:
our
administrative
staff,
our
school
staff
and
each
one
of
our
teachers
I.
Don't
think
the
public
really
realizes
that
and
there's
little
that
we
can
say
or
do
here
today
that
will
help
them
realize
that,
but
what
you
do
in
the
future
will
undoubtedly
make
a
difference
to
that,
and
so
for
that
I
say
thank
you
to
the
board
and
the
staff
and
Dinah
and
olive
hi
I'm
sure
I'll
be
back
again.
C
You
know,
like
I'm
sure
I
will
much
to
your
chagrin
and
I'll
be
out
there.
But
thank
you
for
taking
the
time
to
to
say
that
Dinah
and
too
it's
kind
of
fun
to
be
here
and
know
that
I
don't
have
to
come
back
in
July.
A
You
Paul
and
thank
you
for
all
of
your
service
Robin,
my
friend,
as
you
noted
earlier,
in
a
wonderful
note
to
me
on
another
topic.
It
was
the
school
board
that
brought
you
and
I
together
as
friends.
That's
how
we
met
and
we're
through
many
life
changes
and
events
and
epic
adventures
later
here
we
are
still
best
of
friends
and
I.
A
Think
I'm
ever
grateful
for
this
experience,
bringing
us
together
on
a
personal
note,
so
the
thanks
for
for
your
friendship
goes
well
beyond
anything
I
can
say,
but
about
your
12
years
on
the
fargo
school
board.
We
are
so
grateful.
You
were
appointed
to
the
Fargo
Board
of
Education
on
December
16
2003.
A
After
the
death
of
board
member
Blake
Miller
prior
to
being
appointed,
you
were
studying
the
board
and
its
work
attending
meetings
and
work
sessions
for
nearly
a
year
as
co-president
of
the
longfellow
PTA,
you
were
an
advocate
for
the
school
and
the
inclusion
of
the
Longfellow
project
in
the
then
newly
created
long-range
facilities
plan.
During
your
time
on
the
board.
You
have
given
tirelessly
of
your
time
in
town
months
to
the
work
of
our
district
and
for
the
betterment
of
education
for
our
students.
A
You've
been
an
active
and
well-studied
board
member
serving
as
the
board
president
twice
during
your
tenure,
serving
as
a
chair
for
the
government
affairs
committee
four
times
and
communications
committee
two
times.
Furthermore,
you
have
served
as
a
negotiator
for
the
board
twice
and
I
would
add
that
your
leadership,
not
only
as
chair
the
government
affairs
committee,
but
your
deep
knowledge
and
networks
and
tireless
work
on
our
behalf
with
legislators
and
aunt
allegis
eicher,
was
greatly
appreciated
and
will
be
deeply
missed.
A
You
challans
have
extended
to
many
community
groups
through
your
service
on
the
board,
including
the
community
partnerships
committee,
Public,
Health,
Committee,
Foundation,
Board,
Native,
American,
Commission
and
Fargo
Youth
Initiative,
always
seeking
information
and
knowledge.
You've
been
diligent
and
attending
professional
development
through
the
North
Dakota
and
National
School
Boards
Association
conferences.
Your
tenure
on
the
board
has
included
building
projects,
boundary
changes,
new
educational
mandates
and
laws
and
the
rewriting
of
the
district's
strategic
plan
and
long-range
facilities
plan
and
in
all
those
efforts,
you
were
an
active
participant
and
provided
us
with
real
leadership.
A
Robin
you
can
be
described
as
a
dedicated
listener,
a
conscientious
decision
maker,
a
committed
collaborator
in
coming
from
a
place
of
genuine
sharing
and
meeting
of
the
minds,
a
positive
leader
and,
ultimately,
an
accountable
board.
Member.
The
perspective
you
bring
into
the
boardroom
has
been
appreciated
and
will
be
missed.
A
You
always
focus
on
the
need
for
equity
in
the
education
of
all
children
and
the
insight
you
bring
because
of
the
work
you
do
at
the
Boys
and
Girls
Club
has
informed
this
board
and
made
us
better
Robin.
Thank
you
for
your
service.
Thank
you
for
the
time
you've
committed
to
this
board
and
the
students
of
the
Fargo
public
schools
and,
on
behalf
of
this
board,
I
act.
I'm
going
to
give
you
Robin
her
plaque.
I
present
you
with
this,
but
I.
K
Am
probably
too
emotional
to
say
too
much,
but
we've
been
through
a
lot
together:
gang
we've
been
traveled
together,
we've
been
I,
wrote
some
notes
and
I
haven't
delivered
them
all
yet
to
you,
but
been
through
kids,
graduating
and
marriages
and
divorces
and
graduation
ceremonies.
We
travel
together.
We've
got
fun
stories
and
we
we've
had
fun,
but
we've
got
a
lot
of
work
done
and
my
12
years
on
the
12
plus
on
the
board
have
absolutely
changed.
My
life
and
I
hope
I
don't
have
to
go
away
totally.
K
C
Do
I
I
really
hadn't
planned
to
say
much
before
and
I'm
not
going
to
start
up
again
and
say
anything
else
I
I
I'm
going
to
ask
my
lovely
assistant
in
the
back
to
help
me,
though
I
have
something
to
pass
out
to
all
of
you,
people
and
while
we're
getting
set
to
do
that,
I
was
reminded
of
the
thought
that
I
often
have,
and
that
is
every
once
in
a
while
in
our
lives.
We
have
a
chance
to
do
something,
that's
important
and
makes
a
difference
to
people
and
I.
C
A
And
I
guess:
I
would
just
take
these
remaining
few
moments
to
again
greet
our
incoming
board
members,
and
this
should
give
you
a
bit
of
an
inclination
that
how
how
deeply
service
on
this
board
will
affect
you
in
your
life.
I
didn't
anticipate
it
and
but
it
it's
it's
a
thing.
So
we're
going
to
have
the
opportunity
to
welcome
you
aboard
officially
in
two
weeks
and
so
I'm,
so
appreciative
that
you
were
here
tonight
to
share
this
with
us.
C
D
J
A
H
I
just
wanted
to
say
that
still,
you
know
I
think
I'm
a
new
board
member
after
two
years,
but
I
know
we
have
new
newbies
coming
on
so
but
with
Robyn
and
Paul
and
John
it
you
helped
I,
think
I
know
you
helped
me
and
I
am
sure
you
helped
all.
You
know
all
the
three
of
us
that
came
on
two
years
ago,
assimilate
on
to
this
this
board
and
into
the
district
and
and
learn
so
much
and
it
it
just
was
so
valuable.
H
It's
been
so
valuable
to
have
all
of
your
knowledge
at
our
disposal.
So
thank
you
very
very
much,
and
I
hope
that
I
hope
that
I
can
help
in
you
know
a
little
bit
of
the
same
way
that
that
the
three
of
you
did
for
the
board
members
coming
on,
but
it's
been
a
treasure
to
work
with
you.
Thank
you.
Thank
you.
