Up
next,
we
have
pooja
Shah
of
protocol
labs.
Pooja
has
she
began
her
career
with
planets
here
and
then
she
was
also
founder
and
CEO
of
Dagny,
a
virtual
reality
company
that
built
standalone,
VR,
headsets
and
fully
immersive
productivity
applications.
Now
she
leads
product
for
the
file
coin
project.
Welcome
pooja.
How
are
you
doing
today,
I'm
doing
great.
B
Okay,
hello,
everyone,
it's
a
pleasure
to
be
here
today.
My
name
is
pooja
Shah
and
I
work
on
the
phial
coin
project.
So
today,
I'm
gonna
talk
to
you
about
building
the
phial
coin
ecosystem.
The
file
a'queen
project
is
launching
maenette
in
just
a
couple
months,
but
already
the
file
coin
ecosystem
is
vibrant
and
thriving.
There
are
so
many
opportunities
for
application
developers,
service
providers
and
really
anyone
who
cares
about
efficiently
priced
geographically
distributed
storage.
B
Today,
I'm
gonna
start
with
a
reminder
on
why
the
file
coin
project
exists.
What
problems
are
we
trying
to
solve
in
which
use
cases
do
we
want
to
enable
I'll
then
touch
on
where
the
project
is
today
as
a
project,
community
and
ecosystem,
and
then
I'll
end
by
diving
into
some
of
the
most
compelling
opportunities
that
we
see
for
you
to
get
involved
in
joining
us
in
the
ecosystem
and
starting
on
this
meaningful
journey
with
us
over
the
next
few
years?
So
first,
let's
start
with
why
the
file
Quinn
project
exists.
B
File
coins
mission
is
to
create
a
decentralized,
efficient
and
robust
foundation
for
Humanity's
information.
Over
the
past
several
decades,
we've
seen
numerous
examples
of
how
centralized
storage
infrastructures
can
be
brittle
and
untrustworthy
solutions
for
storing
humanity's
most
valuable
resource,
which
is
information.
B
File
coin
aims
to
be
this
resilient
and
trustworthy
storage
layer
for
all
of
humanity's
knowledge,
we're
getting
there
by
solving
a
number
of
key
problems
that
centralized
storage
infrastructure
is
face
today.
First
file
coin
is
a
decentralized
cloud.
When
a
user
wants
to
store
data
on
the
file
coin
network,
they
can
choose
from
thousands
of
geographically
distributed
storage
providers.
B
Some
of
these
storage
providers
may
differ
along
a
number
of
dimensions,
including
storage
prices,
how
much
available
storage
space
they
have
and
where
they're
located
by
creating
a
marketplace
where
storage,
clients
and
providers
can
interact
directly
viola
Quinn
eliminates
the
reliance
on
a
few
centralized
cloud
storage
providers
and
instead
creates
a
decentralized
cloud
file.
Coin
users
retain
full
control
over
their
data.
You
get
to
make
your
own
decisions
on
what
happens
to
the
data
that
you
store
on
the
file
coin
network.
B
We
see
these
examples
sometimes
where
applications
will
suffer
app
to
because
the
platform
decided
to
make
decisions
that
weren't
necessarily
in
the
interests
of
all
of
their
users.
With
file
coin,
you
get
to
make
the
call
on
whether
you
want
to
grow
your
application
tremendously,
retire
it
or
even
just
move
all
of
your
data
to
an
entirely
different
platform
file.
Queen
is
a
decentralized
protocol
and
network,
and
you
get
to
own
your
data
and
decisions.
B
File.
Queen
is
also
an
efficient
storage
market
users
on
the
network,
get
to
set
the
prices
that
they're
willing
to
pay
and
to
accept
for
storage.
Instead
of
having
to
pay
storage
prices
that
are
set
by
corporate
pricing
departments,
users
can
enter
into
economic
contracts
that
are
affordable
for
them.
B
Verifiable
storage,
so
file
coin
requires
that
little
video
here
file
Quinn
requires
that
storage
providers
repeatedly
generate
cryptographic
proofs
of
storage
to
verify
that
when
they
say
they're
storing
your
data,
they
actually
are
this
verifiable
tamper.
Proof
cryptographic
proof
system
enables
file
coin
to
actually
work
as
a
decentralized
protocol.
That
also
has
data
storage
guarantees.
You
no
longer
need
to
trust
an
intermediary
organization
to
know
that
your
data
is
being
stored
safely
and
correctly.
This
is
a
core
feature
that
is
inherent
to
the
file
Queen
protocol.
B
Lastly,
file
Queen
puts
the
Zeta
bytes
of
idle
storage
capacity
that
exists
in
the
world
to
work.
I,
don't
know
how
many
of
you
know,
but
you
know
there
are
massive
amounts
of
storage
capacity
that
are
sitting
around
unused
in
data
centers
and
hard
drives
and
basements
around
the
world
file.
Queen
is
a
marketplace
where
this
storage
capacity
can
be
hired
by
customers,
making
efficient
use
of
an
otherwise
underutilized
asset.
B
Another
really
awesome
example
that
we've
seen
recently
comes
from
our
work,
collaborating
with
a
number
of
scientific
and
cultural
institutions
to
store
valuable
massive
data
sets
of
the
file
coin
network.
We
generate
more
than
two
and
a
half
quintillion
bytes
of
data
every
single
day
for
perspective.
That's
something
like
126
thousand
shipping
containers
full
of
terabyte
hard
drives.
It
includes
294
billion
emails,
64
billion
whatsapp
messages,
500
million
tweets,
but
it
also
includes
climate
science
reports,
disease
tracking
maps
coordinates
from
connected
cars
like
self-driving
cars
and
so
on
and
a
whole
host
of
other
information.
B
While
much
of
this
data
is
stored
and
preserved,
millions
of
gigabytes
are
still
you
routinely
discarded
every
single
day,
and
some
of
this
includes
useful
scientific
data
at
file
coin.
We
believe
that
throwing
away
this
sort
of
information
is
a
lost
opportunity
for
our
society.
If
stored
and
analyzed,
these
data
could
yield
priceless
insights
into
new
research
and
discoveries.
B
We
won't
file
coin
to
be
the
home
for
this
sort
of
valuable
information,
and
over
the
last
several
months,
we've
been
working
with
a
number
of
institutions
to
preserve
open
access
data
we've
already
begun:
onboarding
petabytes
of
data
onto
the
pile
coin,
test
net,
with
a
pipeline
of
hundreds
of
petabytes
of
data
to
come
on
the
file
claim
a
net
and
beyond.
This
is
a
bit
of
a
sneak
peak,
but
we're
going
to
be
formally
announcing
this
this
initiative
on
our
file
Queen
blog
very
soon.
B
The
last
use
case
example
I
want
to
highlight
comes
from
collaborations
with
adapts
within
the
ipfs
ecosystem.
Ipfs
over
the
last
few
years
has
become
one
of
the
storage
backbones
of
the
web
three
space.
There
are
hundreds
of
apps,
hundreds
of
thousands
of
nodes
and
millions
of
requests
going
through
ipfs
gateways.
Every
single
day,
usage
of
the
protocol,
labs
ipfs
gateway
alone,
has
increased
30x
just
in
2019.
B
There
are
projects
across
a
number
of
verticals
that
rely
on
core
IP
FS
features
such
as
content
addressing
and
peer-to-peer
file
sharing
and
web
p2p
features
such
as
tahts
for
content
discovery
file.
Queen
is
the
missing
incentive
layer
for
data
persistence
on
these
sorts
of
decentralized
storage
networks,
and
we
think
file.
Queen
is
an
especially
good
solution
for
adapt
projects
in
the
ipfs
ecosystem.
Most
about
three
projects
today
will
split
their
storage
amongst
a
number
of
solutions.
Many
of
you
may
already
know
you
know.
For
example,
web
3
photo
sharing.
B
B
These
have
of
applications
can
store
all
of
their
relevant
data
on
the
file
coin
network,
which
is
a
crypto
native
web
3
storage
solution,
we're
working
to
enable
direct
bridges
to
a
number
of
smart
contract
platforms
as
well
well
to
make
this
type
of
storage
integration
much
more
seamless
in
the
future,
but
we're
already
starting
to
see
really
interesting
use
cases
where
this
type
of
storage
can
be
integrated
into
web
3
applications.
Today,.
B
So
for
me,
seeing
the
real-world
impact
of
the
file
coin
project
is
one
of
the
main
reasons
that
I
am
so
energized
to
work
on
this
ecosystem
and
in
this
ecosystem
every
every
day.
Even
with
some
of
these
early
use
cases,
I
can
already
start
to
see
how
file
point
is
going
to
meaningfully
transform
how
we
interact
with
data
in
the
not
so
distant
future.
I.
Think
of
it
like
the
file
claim,
community
is
now
in
a
Cambrian
explosion,
period
of
application
and
business
development.
B
This
leads
me
to
the
second
part
of
my
talk,
where's
file
point
today
as
a
project
community
and
ecosystem.
So,
as
I
mentioned
earlier,
the
file
claim
project
is
gearing
up
to
launch
main
net
in
just
a
few
months
with
most
of
the
core
protocol.
Research
and
development
work
now
done
we're
starting
to
see
meaningful
engagement
from
developers,
miners
and
users,
so
the
core
tools
and
building
blocks
are
finally
in
place
and
the
file
coin
ecosystem
is
seeing
new
applications,
powerful
user
experiences,
services,
businesses
and
more.
B
The
file
crane
project
has
active
development
across
around
200
repos.
This
is
mostly
repos
and
organizations
that
the
Falcon
project
directly
manages.
There
are
many
other
projects
elsewhere,
and
this
includes
core
protocol
implementations
file,
coin
proofs,
developer,
tooling
and
api's,
and
some
community
products
and
applications
as
well
since
launching
our
first
development
networks.
In
early
2019,
we've
seen
the
number
of
contributors
to
the
ecosystem
grow
from
around
20
to
more
than
1200
cumulative
active
contributors.
B
The
file
coin
network
is
still
pre-launch,
so
I'd
say
this
is
super
awesome
and
means
that
we
just
have
an
incredible
developer.
Community
there
currently
four
file
coin
node
implementations
that
are
placing
finishing
touches
on
their
implementations.
These
are
go
file,
coin,
Lotus,
Forrest
and
foo.
Han
go
file,
Queen
and
Lotus
are
both
written
and
go.
Forest
is
in
rust
and
foo
han
is
in
C++
at
the
web
three
summit.
B
Last
year
we
launched
the
file
Queen
Deb
grants
program
to
provide
some
light
financial
support
for
ecosystem
projects
and
to
date
we
have
run
three
waves
of
this
program
awarded
something
like
45
grants
to
teams
and
around
one
and
a
half
million
dollars
to
teams
that
are
building
applications
and
toolings
and
chilling
of
the
file
Queen
ecosystem.
The
program
is
currently
accepting
applications
for
wave
4,
and
you
can
learn
more
about
the
program
on
the
website.
That's
linked
here.
B
We
also
launched
the
first
feature:
complete
file
coin
test
met
back
in
December
2019
and
since
then,
we've
seen
storage
on
this
network
grow
from
zero
to
almost
five
petabytes,
with
around
thirty
five
petabytes
of
storage
capacity
that
is
waiting
to
join
the
network.
There's
serious
organizations
in
our
mining
ecosystem,
something
like
hundreds
of
miners
that
are
actively
participating
on
the
network
every
single
day.
It
looks
like
in
the
thousands
of
active
miners
that
we've
had
who
have
ever
engaged
with
the
file
claim
test
net.
But
this
is
not
you
know.
B
One
thing
to
remember
is
this
is
not
an
incentivized
Network
and
we
actually
expect
this
type
of
storage
capacity
to
grow
by
several
orders
of
magnitude.
Moon.
When
we
launch
the
file
claiming
net
in
general,
we've
seen
significant
enthusiasm
within
the
mining
community.
Some
miners
have
publicly
committed
exabytes
worth
of
storage
for
the
file
claim.
A
net
launch
file
queen
meetups
continue
to
take
place
around
the
world
weekly
and
their
miners
in
the
ecosystem,
who
have
actually
started
posting
on
Twitter
some
videos
of
their
mining
setups.
B
B
So
there
there
are
many
miners
like
this,
that
have
been
posting
videos
of
their
storage,
warehouses
and
data
centers,
and
it's
pretty
exciting
to
see
all
this
momentum
in
the
mining
community.
As
someone
who
works
more
in
the
product
side,
I'm
most
excited
currently
by
the
developer,
tooling,
and
applications
that
have
started
to
exist
within
the
file
coin
ecosystem
and
building
on
file
coin
is
now
easier
than
ever.
B
We
now
have
comprehensive
documentation,
a
number
of
API
libraries,
development,
oriented
tests,
networks,
hosted
nodes
and
other
development
infrastructure
that
is
necessary
to
easily
develop
applications
for
distributed
systems
and
blockchain
networks,
and
several
teams
have
started
using
this
developer
platform
to
build
all
sorts
of
tools
in
the
ecosystem
like
block
explorers,
wallets
chain,
visualization
tools,
mining
dashboards
and
more
some
examples
of
tools
that
we
have
seen
be
built
include.
Some
of
these
block
explorers
by
ipfs
force,
ipfs,
Union,
D,
Tech,
and
then
there
are
a
couple
of
wallets,
are
built
by
open
work
labs.
B
B
Api
we're
also
building
a
file
coin
GUI
that
will
enable
a
broader
set
of
users
to
engage
with
file
coin,
using
familiar
user
interfaces,
we're
hoping
to
enable
kind
of
a
Dropbox
or
Google
Drive
style
storage.
Experience.
We've
learned
that
web
3
products
and
services
can
be
intimidating
to
users
that
are
new
to
the
space,
and
this
is
our
attempt
to
lower
that
barrier
to
entry
and
inspire
delight
in
some
of
our
early
high
point
users.
B
So
all
of
these
products,
many
more,
are
going
to
be
live
either
very
shortly
or
within
the
next
few
months,
and
while
the
file
Queen
ecosystem
is
vibrant
and
growing,
this
is
just
the
beginning.
This
face
is
so
wide
open
and
there
are
just
countless
opportunities
for
developers
who
are
mission
aligned
and
want
to
start
building
now.
B
B
First,
is
this
idea
of
storing
and
distributing
web
3
user
data
storing
web
3
user
data
on
the
file
coin
decentralized
network
allows
users
have
the
assurance
that
their
data
isn't
in
the
control
of
large,
centralized
institutions.
While
coin
storage
is
actually
specifically
tailored
to
meet
the
needs
of
web
3
applications
that
are
aligned
with
the
values
of
user
data
control
and
decentralization,
and
you
can
already
start
integrating
file
quint
storage
into
your
web
3
applications
today.
B
Another
opportunity
is
this
idea
of
data
marketplaces.
Many
of
us
already
work
in
the
web
through
space,
so
we
don't
need
to
be
convinced
about
the
importance
of
data
privacy,
but
we
might
need
to
be
a
little
bit
more
convinced
about
its
urgency.
I
personally
used
to
do
bioengineering
research
and
bring
computer
interfaces
a
few
years
ago,
we're
not
so
far
away
from
a
future
in
which
some
of
our
most
personal
data
are
neural.
B
But
we
believe
this
is
a
really
exciting
fields
and
space,
and
the
good
news
is
that
the
decentralized
storage
side
of
this
problem
already
has
a
solution.
Today,
let's
look
at
another
example:
we've
seen
a
need
for
applications
that
focus
on
data
authenticity
and
are
geared
towards
users
who
see
significant
value
in
time-stamped,
verified
storage.
I
touched
on
this
at
the
beginning.
With
the
example
of
our
work
with
the
Shoah
foundation,
this
project
relied
on
having
time-stamped
public
records
of
data
that
was
being
stored
on
a
blockchain.
B
It
also
relied
on
data
being
content
addressed
or
identified
by
a
unique
fingerprint,
that's
generated
on
the
basis
of
the
actual
data,
as
opposed
to
where
the
data
is
located.
These
content
identifiers
x'
were
used
as
checksums
to
gain
confidence
that
the
data
that
was
stored
hadn't
been
tampered
with
over
time.
In
some
of
our
interviews
with
users,
we
found
that
this
use
case
actually
resonates
with
a
number
of
groups.
B
Lawyers
looking
to
validate
documents
university
is
looking
to
validate
formal
transcripts
and
other
media
and,
more
so
developing
applications
to
expose
verified
storage
functionality
to
a
broad
set
of
users
as
a
potential
to
be
immediately
relevant
in
a
number
of
fields.
I
have
a
few
more
I'll
quickly
go
through
a
couple
of
other
examples.
B
File
coin
is
actually
ripe
to
start
enabling
smart
contract
interactions
over
large
datasets
stored
on
the
file
plain
network,
as
I
mentioned
before.
Some
of
these
bridges
to
smart
contract
platforms
will
still
need
to
be
built.
Some
are
already
in
progress,
but
those
that
aren't
are
really
excellent
opportunities
for
developers
to
jump
in
and
start
connecting.
These
different
ecosystems,
because
file,
quick
storage
nodes,
are
geographically
distributed.
File
Queen
can
work
as
a
video
distribution
platform
and
a
CDN
to
provide
videos
to
end-users
more
quickly.
B
You
can
also
use
file
coin
to
store
virtual
world
assets,
so
this
is
either
for
game
publishers
or
user
generated
virtual
assets
directly
and
file.
Queen
can
also
be
used
to
distribute
games
packages,
containers
and
a
lot
more
there's
so
much
more.
That
I
could
say
about
what
we've
been
up
to
on
file
coin
or
other
ideas
for
you
to
chew
on
and
explore,
but
I'd
like
to
close
with
the
reminder
of
that.
What
we're
all
doing
as
part
of
the
web
3
space
is
extremely
important,
and
also
that
this
is
just
the
very
beginning.
B
File
Queen
is
launching
me
net
in
a
few
months
and
there
are
boundless
in
the
philo
ecosystem
and
elsewhere.
I
hope,
you'll,
join
us,
I'm
really
excited
I,
think
it's
gonna
be
an
awesome
journey.
Thank
you
and,
of
course,
feel
free
to
reach
out
on
Twitter
or
anywhere
else.
If
you'd
like
to
explore
some
of
these
ideas
in
greater
depth,
I
think
there's
a
question
here
about
what
are
the
minimum
requirements
for
a
file
coin
node.
So
this
is
a
good
question
in
terms
of
being
a
client
on
the
network.
B
So
just
using
just
storing
data
on
the
file
coin
network,
there
are
no
minimum
requirements
really,
so
any
any
one
can
store
their
data
on
the
file
coin
network.
In
terms
of
being
a
storage
minor
on
the
file
coin
network
because
of
some
of
the
some
of
our
product
requirements,
we
wanted
to
make
sure
that
the
chain
would
be
really
scalable
and
actually
able
to
accommodate
the
exabytes
of
mining
capacity.
That
we've
seen
that
you
know
mining
interests
that
we've
seen
so
the
minimum
requirements
right
now
for
being
a
file
coin.
B
Miner
are
there
currently
being
defined?
But
it's
something
like
you
know,
a
couple
ter
a
couple
hundred
I
think
it's
a
hundred
terabytes
for
a
file
coins,
storage
minor,
is
a
minimum
requirement
currently
and
there
a
couple
of
other
their
requirements,
and
these
are
all
published
on
our
documentation
site.
B
What's
it
like
to
work
with
Wan
Bennett
on
is
super
awesome
really
inspiring.
It's
been
an
amazing
journey
working
with
one
over
the
last
few
years
for
sure
how
does
the
data
verification
process
work
with
file
coin?
This
is
a
great
question.
It's
a
little
bit
complicated,
so
I
would
maybe
direct
you
to
some
of
our
great
explainers
that
are
on
Doc's
file
coin
IO,
where
we
describe
some
of
the
storage
verification
process
in
a
bit
more
detail.
B
It's
file
Quinn
hiring
and
are
looking
for
open
source
contributors.
Yes,
absolutely
we
I
can
maybe
include
a
link
to
where
our
job
description
is,
but
we
bio,
Quinn,
is
supported
by
protocol
labs,
so
protocol
labs
has
a
number
of
job
opportunities
for
people
to
work,
full-time
on
the
file
open
project
and
we're
always
looking
for
open
source
contributions.
We
have
a
file
open
community
space.
On
slack
you
can.
B
See
how
is
privacy
addressed
so
yeah,
so
just
like
with
ipfs
privacy
is
addressed
on
the
client
side.
If
you,
as
a
user,
want
to
make
sure
that
your
data
is
encrypted.
You
would
do
that
while
you
still
have
the
data
and
then
you
would
transfer
it
to
storage
miners,
that's
I!
Guess
that's
one
element
to
privacy.
There
are
a
number
of
other
elements.
B
A
B
For
projects
looking
to
use
file,
point
for
storage,
do
you
recommend
to
first
build
with
ipfs?
Not
necessarily
so
you
know,
ipfs
is
a
great.
It
depends
on
what
the
use
cases
that
you're
looking
for
IP,
FS
and
file
coin
can
be
used
together
or
separately,
depending
on
whatever
the
use
is,
but
not
necessarily
but
I.
Think
ipfs
is
an
incredible
ecosystem
and
has
a
lot
of
really
great
documentation
as
well.
So
if
you
want
to
see
what
is
maybe
more
immediately
relevant
for
your
use
case,
you
can
look
there.
B
So
Cameron
asks
what
are
peels
long-term
plans
for
computation
over
the
data.
Would
that
be
a
different
layer
on
the
file
claim
network
or
a
separate
network
so
yeah?
This
is
a
great
question.
There
are
a
couple
of
things
you
know
already
today,
like
I,
said
we're
starting
to
investigate
and
build
bridges
with
existing
smart
contract
platforms
that
would
enable
computation
over
data
that's
stored
on
the
file
claim
network.
This
is
I,
guess
you
would
think
of
this.
B
B
Well,
you
know
we're
doing
a
number
we're
doing
a
number
of
things
to
get
ready
for
launch
we're.
Starting
to
you
know,
work
with
more
community
members
and
we
have
a
new
file
coin
website.
There
will
be
a
lot
of
energy
that
we're
going
to
put
into
the
launch
for
sure,
and
so
we're
really
really
excited
about
that
moment
and
I.
