Description
Learn more about what the Global Search team is working on in 15.11. Planning issue: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/search-team/team-tasks/-/issues/133
A
Hello,
everyone
and
thank
you
for
joining
us
for
the
global
search,
15.11
kickoff
call
I'm
joined
by
CZ,
who
is
our
illustrious
engineering
manager
for
our
Global
Search
Group
who'll,
be
helping
to
kick
things
off
and
explain
what
we're
working
on
and
without
that,
let's
jump
into
our
planning
issue
and
we'll
talk
in
more
detail
here.
I'll
go
ahead
and
cover
the
features
and
then
CZ
will
go
through
and
cover
the
maintenance
and
bugs
so
the
first
one
that
we're
working
on
here
in
the
future
side
is
We
are
continuing.
A
Our
efforts
to
support
the
MVC
deployment
of
Zoot
Suit
is
our
new
code
search
solution
that
we
are
moving
towards
away
from
elastic
to
ensure
that
we
can
provide
a
result,
reliable
and
complete
search
results
across
project
within
gitlab,
so
very
excited
about
this
and
we'll
make
a
key
Improvement
to
our
code
search
solution.
We
are
working
towards
the
NVC,
as
I
mentioned,
which
is
to
enable
this
on
some
very
small,
very
selective
projects
that
are
public.
While
we
go
work
on
some
more
of
the
authentication
and
private
project
support.
A
This
will
allow
us
to
get
the
user
experience.
Correct
and
get
the
initial
integration
going
before
working
on
some
of
the
Yeah,
the
more
complex
authentication
and
things
like
that
and
rights
controls.
So
that's
what
we're
working
on
here
and
you
can
see.
We've
actually
made
quite
a
lot
of
progress
here.
Most
of
the
work
is
actually
you
know
closed,
and
we
are
working
on
a
couple
last
items
here
to
continue
to
bring
this
to
fruition
on
the
NPC,
so
very
exciting
progress.
A
A
What
the
team
is
calling
colloquially
a
super
sidebar,
and
so
this
will
allow
a
much
improved
user
experience
in
moving
between
git
lab
projects
and
groups,
and
we,
of
course
want
the
search
functionality
to
also
snap
into
the
sidebar
as
you'd
expect,
so
we're
working
on
that
more
broadly,
but
in
particular
on
this
one,
we
are
working
for
our
team
on
making
sure
that
these
scope
menus
or
where
or
what
set
of
projects
and
groups
you
are
searching
from
correctly.
A
It
shows
in
the
menu,
in
the
left,
hand
the
new
sidebar,
once
you
click
the
search
option,
so
we're
working
on
this
now
and
that
will
overall
be
visible
once
we
have
our
new
navigation
functionality
available
in
for
an
opt-in
beta
which
we're
hoping
to
have
in
the
next
couple
of
milestones,
so
stay
tuned
there.
If
you're
curious
from
there,
we
are
continuing
the
work
of
supporting
group
level
Wiki
in
advanced
search
and
then
we're
also
working
to
align
in
more
detail
with
the
command
palette.
Work
that
we
are
working
on.
A
This
will
allow
you
to
more
easily
jump
around
between
gitlab
projects
and
functionality
and
having
it
integrated
with
global
search
will
be
great
to
allow
you
to
quickly
search
and
other
access,
other
kinds
of
items,
and
so
this
is
pretty
early
stages
for
the
command
palette.
We
want
to
go
ahead
and
make
sure
that
we
have
alignment
with
the
team
and
who's
implementing
this,
and
we
have
a
path
forward
on
how
Global
search
can
help.
So
with
that.
A
B
Hi
everyone,
I'm
CT
I'm,
the
engineer
manager
of
the
global
search
team,
the
next
I'm
going
to
walk
you
through
the
maintenance
work
that
we
planned
for
a
GitHub
1511
release.
So
the
first
one
is
the
work
about
periodically
repair
the
project.
If
we've
felt
some
data
is
amazing,
we
already
started
this
work.
B
The
first
reason
that
we
are
targeting
is
to
having
the
law
have
the
logs
in
place
so
that
we
can
have
some
real
data
to
tell
us
how
often
this
project
will
run
and
the
whole
Market
impact.
It
will
add
to
the
GitHub
infrastructure,
so
we
hope
to
catch.
The
first
iteration
continue
in
1511..
B
The
next
work
that
we
planned,
perfect
11,
is
to
implement
a
index
partitioning
mechanism
to
continue
scale,
our
advanced
search,
so
the
new
partitioning
architecture
Will
based
on
group
and
projects.
We
hope
by
doing
this,
will
improve
our
group
level
search
in
Atlanta
feature
the
first
Innovation
we
are
going
to
do
with
the
note
index.
That
will
prove
our
concept,
then
we'll
throw
this
out
eventually
to
all
the
investors
for
advanced
search.
B
Will
also
be
looking
at
optimizing
other
project
search
right
now,
all
the
projects
index
data
is
in
a
be
our
Beekman
index,
which
costs
some
like
slow
searches
for
the
projects.
So
we
are
going
to
separate
the
project
data
of
the
main
index
into
its
own
index
in
order
to
speed
up
the
project
search
other
than
this.
We're
also
trying
to
maybe
move
some
of
the
existing
feature.
Flags
that
existed
in
that
search,
that's
fundaments,
and
also
for
boxes.
We
have
planned
a
few
bug,
physics
for
1511.
B
We
hope
to
continue
to
tighten
our
loser
and
and
improve
our
user
experience
by
fixing
those
packs,
Josh
I,
think
that's
all
from
my
side.
A
Great
thanks,
CZ
and
thanks
everyone
else
for
touching
what
we're
working
on
in
1511..
As
always,
please
leave
feedback
on
the
issues
if
you
have
any
we're
working
on.
These
are
public
issues,
and
let
us
know
what
you
think
and
if
nothing
else
we'll
see
you
next
month
or
talking
about
16.0
our
next
new
major
release
thanks
everyone.
