Hello: everyone hanif here from the inbound marketing team back again for another short video on 301 redirects and when you should use it a 301 redirect is a way of sending users and search engines from one url to a different url in real world example. It's like moving to a new house and getting all your mails forwarded from your old address to your new address.

Now, let me show you how a 301 works so page a has been removed, replaced by page b. We have the user and search engine robot called big g. Let's call it big g for this example.

So when a user requests page a they're automatically redirected to page b when a search engine robot like big g request, page a it'll realize that it's been redirected to page b, not only that search engines would also pass on any seo. Goodness from page a to page b, such as links also page b, will replace page a in the search index.

That's it that's how a 301 redirect works. You need to create a 301 redirect whenever you remove a page from the website. Best practice is to link to an alternative but relevant page.

Other scenario is if a page is moved from one folder structure to another. You redirect the old structure to the new structure, simple as that, thanks for watching see ya.
