Description
A short video about my role and path to Gitlab
Recorded as part of https://gitlab.com/gitlab-com/www-gitlab-com/-/issues/11261
A
A
A
The
channel
team
is
responsible
for
managing
the
relationships
with
all
the
various
partner
businesses,
such
as
resellers
and
distributors,
that
are
involved
in
taking
a
product
like
get
lab
to
market.
As
an
analogy,
you
can
think
of
it
a
little
like
how
you
get
your
groceries,
so
think
about
your
grocery
list,
all
the
different
products
on
there.
It
would
be
really
challenging
for
you
to
find
the
time
to
go
to
the
source
of
each
of
these
different
foods.
A
So
that
means
during
my
day-to-day
I
could
do
anything
from
conducting
trainings
building
business
strategies
working
with
marketing,
to
create
events
and
create
relative
content,
ensuring
that
we
have
the
right
people
aligned
and
helping
work
through
daily
challenges
that
inevitably
pop
up
and
ensure
all
the
logistics
behind
all
of
that
activity
are
working
smoothly.
So
we
can
all
best
support
the
customer.
A
A
A
I
took
a
gap
year
after
graduating
university,
during
which
I
worked
some
great
part-time
jobs
and
focused
on
traveling
when
it
came
time
to
find
a
real
job.
I
was
lucky
enough
to
meet
someone
through
a
nanny
position.
I
had
who
worked
at
a
tech
reseller
and
was
hiring,
and
I
ended
up
getting
a
position
doing
inside
sales
for
them
now,
as
I
mentioned
before,
channel
partners
such
as
resellers
work
with
a
ton
of
different
technology
vendors.
A
So
during
my
time
at
this
reseller,
I
was
able
to
work
through
various
different
certifications
and
get
to
know
how
each
vendor
worked.
What
technologies
were
the
most
impactful
and
how
different
each
corporate
culture
could
be
through
the
relationships
I
built
there.
I
was
able
to
make
the
move
to
a
cyber
security
hardware
vendor,
where
I
really
was
able
to
witness
firsthand
how
transformative
technology
can
be
and
how
dynamic
a
career
in
the
tech
channel
is
being
in
technology
can
be
like
riding
a
rocket
ship.
A
Sometimes
the
companies
and
products
can
change
and
grow
so
quickly
and
the
impact
that
they
can
have
on
customers
can
be
huge.
It's
an
industry
that
always
needs
highly
skilled
workers,
because
the
products
being
built
rely
on
innovative
minds
to
help
drive
forward
the
amazing
improvements
that
technologies
can
bring
to
the
world.
A
So
if
you're
trying
to
figure
out
what
career
to
pursue
the
advice,
I
would
give
you
is
get
out
there
and
try
things.
Take
the
class.
Do
the
internship
get
involved
in
the
organization
that
you
are
interested
in,
but
also
think
about
getting
trained
on
something
within
tech.
Whatever
it
is,
you
end
up
loving
chances.
Are
there
is
a
tech
company
that
needs
you,
whether
you
end
up
digging
into
finance
graphic
design,
video
editing,
marketing
engineering,
there
is
likely
a
tech
company
that
can
use
your
skill
set
and
giving
yourself
some
building
blocks
to
enter.
A
That
industry
is
a
very
smart
move.
We
are
always
going
to
need
skilled
engineers
to
keep
innovating,
but
also
keep
in
mind.
The
jobs
that
exist
today
may
not
always
be
the
ones
that
exist
tomorrow
and
what
I
mean
by
that
is
that
there
could
be
a
role
out
there
that
we
have
not
even
dreamed
up
yet
so
don't
worry
if
you
haven't
quite
figured
out
the
perfect
fit
for
you.
Do
your
homework
be
curious,
and
you
may
very
well
discover
that
your
dream
job
is
a
lot
more
tech
than
you
think.
