From YouTube: How to conduct qualitative data analysis in Dovetail
Description
This video covers basics on ways to analyze qualitative data (interviews, focus groups, contextual inquiry, etc.) within the Dovetail platform. This video is designed for researchers who are new to Dovetail or Project teams who want to conduct research and analyze their own data.
A
Prior
to
starting
this
video,
I
copied
and
pasted
notes
from
the
individual
interview
sessions
into
these
seven
pages
that
you
see
here
within
the
customer
interviews,
column
and
as
I
was
copying
them
over
as
a
best
practice.
I've
removed
any
personal
identifiable
information
or
pii
such
as
first
and
last
name,
so
we're
not
revealing
who
we
actually
spoke
to
in
case.
Some
of
this
information
is
made
public.
A
A
And
as
I
go
to
p2,
I
see
a
lot
of
that
same
information
contained
here,
since
this
information
is
separated
out
into
different
files.
I'm
not
able
to
easily
compare
data
across
the
seven
participants.
So
if
I
want
to
do
that
in
a
in
a
fashion
that
I
can
easily
identify
themes
and
insights
from
the
seven
participants,
I'm
going
to
need
to
organize
the
information
a
little
differently.
A
A
So
I'm
going
to
demonstrate
what
that
looks
like
once.
That's
all
done
for
today's
video,
I'm
only
going
to
focus
on
part
of
the
data
when
conducting
your
own
research.
I
recommend
looking
at
all
of
your
study
data
and
not
just
parts
of
it.
In
this
simplified
analysis.
Example,
I'm
mainly
going
to
focus
on
the
column
on
the
top
right,
which
is
opportunities.
A
A
A
A
A
A
A
A
A
So
from
here
I
can
use
color
coding
to
tag
themes
in
this
way
and
visualize
the
themes
that
I've
created,
so
the
output
would
look
something
like
this,
where
I've
got
individual
codes
and
tags
representing
specific
colors
and
those
colors
are
tied
to
these
themes
that
I've
come
up
with.
As
I've
been
doing,
the
color
coding
exercise.
A
So
in
this
example,
I've
brought
over
those
bullet
points
that
we
saw
in
dovetail,
and
I've
got
all
the
data
presented
here
and
from
from
here.
What
I
can
do
is
use
these
digital
posters
to
essentially
drag
and
drop
similar
data
points
together.
So
I'm
kind
of
doing
that
color
exercise
that
I
showed
the
excel
file,
but
just
in
another
way.
A
So
what
I
can
do
here
is,
I
can
show
another
part
of
the
page
that
I've
created
where
I've
got
different
themes,
and
these
are
essentially
different
buckets
that
I
can
put
information
in.
So
if
there
are
a
couple
of
items
that
are
similar,
I
can
put
them
into
a
theme
that
I've
come
up
with
and
I
can't
come
up
with
a
name
after
grouping
things
and
then
once
I've
gone
through
that
exercise,
I
may
end
up
with
something
that
looks
like
this.
A
All
of
the
data
points
have
been
pulled
into
a
central
area
and
I
can
see
my
seven
different
themes
that
I've
come
up
with
and
all
the
different
items
that
are
contained
within
each
theme.
At
this
point,
let's
go
back
to
dovetail
as
you
can
see,
I've
already
gone
ahead
and
tagged
each
of
the
bullet
points.
B
A
A
B
A
Access
and
what
they
have
access
to,
I
want
to
record
a
finding
around
this
particular
tag
in
order
to
do
that,
I'll
select
the
insights
tab
on
the
left,
hand,
side
and
click
into
the
area
that
says
new
insight.
So
I'll,
add
that
insight
to
the
page,
so
participants
want
to
easily
locate
and
control.
A
A
A
So,
for
example,
I
can
reference
the
specific
tag
by
going
to
tags
and
then
selecting
access
of
permissions,
so
it
inserts
it
there.
I
can
also,
if
I
have
things
like
user
quotes
or
user
video
clips.
I
can
also
include
those
here
so
once
I'm
done,
I'm
happy
with
how
this
is
worded
and
all
the
information
that's
contained
is
supporting
data.
A
I
can
link
to
this
insight
page
by
clicking
the
share
button
and
copying
the
information
via
this
button
here
and
then
once
I
have
that
copied,
I
can
include
the
link
in
my
git
lab
issue,
so
this
has
been
a
brief
demonstration
of
how
to
analyze
data
and
generate
insights
within
dovetail.
I
hope
you
all
have
learned
a
lot
throughout
this
process.
