Identity Proofing Solution Combining HL Indy and Fabric - Mark Rakhmilevich, Oracle & Mike Vesey, IdRamp

The need for trusted identity is growing with remote workforce and online government services due to the pandemic and risk of fraud and data leaks. Decentralized verifiable identity meets this need with a strong trust model. Speakers will demo identity proofing and issuance of verifiable credentials to a city resident. Oracle Blockchain Platform (HL Fabric) manages data gathering & audit logging. IdRamp services based on HL Indy/Aries running in the Oracle Cloud ensure interoperability & protect PII. In the demo a resident requests city credentials by scanning physical documents for automated and human verification, then uses their credentials for verified access to a court hearing. Verifiable credentials support universal access to city services and, with self-sovereign approval, can be shared with other jurisdictions, avoiding additional physical proofing and the risk of sharing PII.

Building a Hyperledger Indy Network - A Technical Overview - Lynn Bendixsen, Indicio, PBC

Lynn will briefly cover some preliminary considerations for building a Hyperledger Indy Network such as determining the scope and purpose, governance considerations, business and financial options, participating stakeholders, potential users, etc. Lynn will then deliver a detailed presentation describing the technical instantiation steps needed to set up a new Indy network. He will begin with describing the physical setup of nodes on a variety of different hosting environments. Next he will provide detailed information on building and sharing the genesis files. Then he will describe what will likely need to occur during the "initial instantiation" meeting where all of the genesis node operators meet to start the network. Lynn will also briefly share open source tools and documents related to the upgrading, monitoring, maintenance, and ongoing use of an Indy network.

Identity projects need to support business objectives, be easy to adopt, and protect the rights of the identity holder. That is a tall order, but real world deployments show this to be possible through the use of distributed ledgers. In this session, Hyperledger member, Evernym, will focus on the analysis and discussion of two use cases where legacy identity solutions were unable to meet the needs, but ledger based solutions have been successful: covid credentials for travel, and employment credentials for staff movements. Andy and James will introduce the solutions and are eager for feedback. By the end of the session, we hope you will be able to distinguish use cases where digital identity makes sense, as well as understand how Hyperledger Indy and Aries can play a role.

Learning outcomes:
* Why digital identity projects need a distributed ledger like Indy
* Why digital identity projects need an open protocol like Aries

In the “Hyperledger In-depth: An hour with… .” series, Hyperledger members share learnings from their projects and try to answer all the hard questions about the pains of working with DLTs. It is not yet another webinar: participants will be encouraged to take part, come with prepared questions and voice opinions. Expect live demos and tutorials, stories from the battle field and hopefully some heated discussions. Let's get out of the zoom fatigue and engage to share experiences and build a stronger community.

In this virtual meetup hosted by Hyperledger Toronto, Stephen Curran talks about three of Hyperledger's newest projects. This presentation covers Ursa, Indy and Aries - Linux Foundation's Hyperledger projects which will add the long-missing identity layer to the Internet. Stephen goes over the important new paradigm these projects enable, discussing verifiable credentials and why distributed ledger technology is crucial to establishing new ways of perceiving 'Trust over IP'. He covers how you can get started building on top of these projects and - if you want - how you can contribute to them.

For a primer before the webinar, see https://trustoverip.org.

Understanding the Hyperledger Indy Distributed Ledger - Alexander Shcherbakov, Evernym

Hyperledger Indy has its own implementation of Distributed Ledger (indy-node) not dependent on any other blockchain platform. It also has its own implementation of a PBFT-like consensus protocol (indy-plenum).

Indy-node is a Ledger purpose-build for Identity. However, it can be used as a general-purpose blockchain for use cases besides Identity.

One of indy-node deployments (Sovrin Ledger) is successfully functioning in production for more than 2 years.

The presentation focuses on the Architecture and specific of Indy Ledger. In includes Plenum consensus protocol (RBFT), corresponding crypto (in particular, BLS multi-signature), organization of transactions and storages (ledgers and states), usage of merkle trees and Patricia merkle tries, auditability, workflow of read and write requests, catch-up procedure.

Support of custom plugins and custom transactions on top of indy-plenum or indy-node will also be described.

Identity is a fundamental component of any business-to-business transactional platform. It is a problem the blockchain platforms uniquely resolve. However, for blockchain networks to be able to transact within and between networks they need a common identity mechanism. The Indy project within Hyperledger represents the latest technology for business and individual identities. R3 has partnered with this project to bring their unique identity solution to the Corda platform. Come hear how this unique collaboration of Hyperledger members represents not only a technology integration but a fundamental step to portable identities across blockchain platforms.

Stephen Curran, CloudCompass Computing, Inc. & John Jordan, Province of British Columbia

A hands-on workshop covering both business and technical aspects of an organization becoming a participant in the Verifiable Organizations Network (VON). Attendees will gain insight into both business and technical aspects of a Hyperledger Indy based solution.

The attendees will work in groups to deploy an organizational Hyperledger Indy based VON-X Issuer/Verifier service so they can learn about what it would take to on-board a permit service onto VON. Their service will issue Verifiable Credentials to TheOrgBook and enable a permitting workflow. The attendees will consider the business context - how would this affect existing workflows within their organizations, what would the value be to their business? They’ll also see the technical components in action - what’s involved in becoming an organization that consumes Verifiable Claims, and that issues Credentials.

John Jordan, Province of British Columbia & Stephen Curran , CloudCompass Computing, Inc.

Learn about the Province of British Columbia's experience deploying the first Hyperledger Indy based production ecosystem.

The Verifiable Organizations Network (VON) enables governments and organizations to exchange data in trustworthy ways based on open standards and technology.

VON's founding members are governments who are, by law, trusted issuers of data about organizations. The Province of British Columbia, Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada have come together to create the initial services needed to establish VON.

VON's founders have delivered new Indy-based open source components which form VON's backbone. TheOrgBook is a publicly accessible repository of verifiable claims about organizations. VON-X enables services to verify and issue credentials.

We present the Why, What and How including our strategy for bootstrapping VON using a two-sided market strategy.
